AHAR Leads the Way for Mumbai’s Hotel and Restaurant Industry

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 22: The Association of Hotels and Restaurants (AHAR) continues to champion the cause of the hospitality sector by addressing critical issues and ensuring growth and sustainability in the industry. Under the leadership of Sudhakar Shetty, AHAR has been actively working on its four principal pillars: Protection, Employment, Growth, and Service.

    Vision for the Industry
Sudhakar Shetty, President of AHAR, emphasized the association’s vision to create a significant impact on the entire hotel and restaurant community. “AHAR works tirelessly to resolve issues with various government agencies, including the BMC and MCGM, on policies such as amalgamation, fire licenses, illuminated signboards, hawkers, illegal food trucks, and monsoon sheds,” he stated.

Highlighting the bureaucratic hurdles, Shetty advocated for a single-window clearance system to reduce compliance paperwork. “Mumbai is the only city with a dual licensing system—BMC Health licenses and FSSAI. We have proposed a unified licensing system to ease the financial burden on hoteliers.”

    Collaboration with MITRA
AHAR has also joined hands with the MITRA project, a government initiative led by CEO Praveen Pardesi and controlled by the Prime Minister’s Office. This collaboration brings together stakeholders and authorities with the support of the World Bank. The initiative aims to position Mumbai as a top tourism destination in India, which Shetty believes will significantly benefit the hospitality industry by driving job creation and boosting tax revenue.

    Resolving Member Issues
Vijay Shetty, Secretary of AHAR, detailed the association’s efforts to mediate disputes and support its members. “We act as mediators between trade merchant associations and AHAR members to resolve cases amicably. Over 200 cases have been resolved, ensuring smooth operations for hoteliers.” AHAR also assists its members in navigating challenges related to excise and government licenses, easing the burden of regulatory complexities.

Strengthening Relations with Police and Authorities
Satish Shetty, Vice President of Zone 10, highlighted AHAR’s role in fostering strong relationships with law enforcement. “We address issues between police and our members by providing legal guidance and mediating disputes. Our WhatsApp groups keep all members informed, ensuring problems are resolved at the grassroots level.”

AHAR also works closely with traffic police to alleviate parking and traffic concerns near hotels and restaurants. “We support traffic regulations to ensure smooth operations while protecting our guests from harassment,” he added.

A Unified Voice for the Industry
AHAR continues to advocate for the hospitality sector’s inclusion in policymaking, stressing the importance of consulting industry stakeholders for practical and beneficial solutions. The association’s collaborative approach, coupled with its focus on community and grassroots-level issues, cements its position as a vital force in the advancement of Mumbai’s hotel and restaurant industry.

  • Social Emotional Learning at Cambridge School Noida: A Holistic Approach to Student Development

Social Emotional Learning at Cambridge School Noida: A Holistic Approach to Student Development

New Delhi [India], January 22: In today’s ever-evolving world, the classroom is where students are often first exposed to people from different backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities. These differences can create both challenges and opportunities for personal growth. To help children navigate this diversity and succeed, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes provide a structured approach to developing essential life skills. At the Cambridge Schools, we have integrated SEL as a core part of our curriculum to foster self-awareness, empathy, and resilience among our students, preparing them not only for academic success but for life beyond school.

    What is SEL?

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a methodology designed to help students of all ages develop healthy identities, achieve personal and collective goals, better comprehend their emotions, and make responsible decisions. At Cambridge Schools, SEL plays an essential role in fostering the holistic development of our students. This approach enables children to grow emotionally, socially, and academically, providing them with a balanced framework to navigate life’s challenges.

We follow the CASEL framework for SEL, which focuses on five core competencies that guide student development:

    • Self-awareness – Recognizing emotions and understanding how they influence behavior.
    • Self-management – Controlling emotions and actions while working toward personal goals.
    • Social awareness – Understanding and empathizing with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Relationship skills – Building and maintaining healthy, respectful relationships.
    • Responsible decision-making – Making ethical and thoughtful choices that consider everyone’s well-being.

    Creative and Engaging Learning Methods

To keep our SEL classes diverse and engaging, we use a range of creative mediums such as role-playing, storytelling, film discussions, art projects, group activities, and reflective discussions. Storybooks are used to explore characters’ emotions, motivations, and behaviours, helping children gain insights into their own feelings. For example, after reading a book about a character overcoming a challenge, students engage in discussions that allow them to relate the story to their own lives. Short films about children facing similar issues provide opportunities for empathy and offer potential creative solutions for the students’ personal conflicts.

Additionally, decision-making games place students in hypothetical situations that challenge them to make responsible choices. These activities promote critical thinking and help students understand the consequences of their actions. Art and craft activities also offer a non-judgmental space for self-expression, where children can explore their emotions through creative means.

SEL classes cover themes such as teamwork, collaboration, stress management, problem-solving, anger management, empathy, effective communication, positive self-talk, goal setting, and conflict resolution, among others.

    A Space for Safe Expression

SEL classes are primarily led by counselors, who facilitate discussions, guide activities, and offer one-on-one support when needed. The counselor’s role is key to creating a supportive environment where students feel safe to express themselves. This open setting allows children to address their emotions and receive guidance in a structured, yet relaxed manner.

    Secondary Benefits of SEL Classes

One of the additional benefits of SEL classes is that they give students a platform to express their thoughts and concerns in a group setting, which helps identify issues early before they escalate. These classes give children the opportunity to discuss their aspirations, struggles, and hopes with their peers, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding.

For quieter students, who may not typically engage in regular class discussions, SEL classes offer an ideal environment for them to participate. The group dynamic and the supportive atmosphere encourage them to speak up, making them feel heard and valued.

A Comprehensive Approach to Student Well-being

Overall, SEL classes at Cambridge Schools tie closely with our values of service to others, global outlook, and rational thinking. It is an essential part of our school’s commitment to nurture well-rounded global citizens and foster a community of caring, emotionally intelligent individuals.

Jyoti Joshi, Officiating Principal, Cambridge School, Noida, says As essential as academics, SEL teaches children to understand their emotions, empathise with others, and build meaningful relationships. In today’s fast-paced world, it equips young minds with the confidence and resilience to deal with a variety of situations that they may be confronted with”.

  • Dr. Faruk Patel Calls Upon IIT Bombay Students To Focus On Innovation In Solar Energy

Dr. Faruk Patel Calls Upon IIT Bombay Students To Focus On Innovation In Solar Energy

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 22:  KP Group Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. Faruk G Patel, has described achieving the 500 GW renewable energy capacity target of Government of India by 2030 as an extraordinary but achievable challenge.

Dr. Patel made the comment during his keynote address at SUSTAIN 5.0, held at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay). Organised on the theme — Rethink the Choices, React to the Changes, Rebuild the Future — the event brought together academia, industry leaders and sustainability advocates to discuss crucial environmental issues and the role of renewable energy.

“Today, India has already achieved over 200 GW of renewable energy capacity, with solar energy contributing a remarkable 94 GW. Solar energy is not just part of the solution, it is at the heart of it. To meet the goal of 500 GW by 2030, we will need to install approximately 60 GW of renewable energy every year for the next five years. It is an extraordinary but achievable challenge,” Dr. Patel said.

Dr. Patel outlined India’s ambitious commitments to renewable energy, including meeting at least half of the energy requirements through renewable sources, reducing carbon emissions by 100 crore tonnes, and achieving net zero by 2070.

Highlighting the critical hurdles in scaling solar energy, particularly land availability, he said, “Land availability is a genuine constraint for large-scale solar installations. Around 4 acres of land is needed for 1 MW of solar capacity. We have already used 3.84 lakh acres for 96 GW solar projects.  With our target of 500 GW, we are looking at over 12 lakh acres more. Where will this come from? The answer lies in innovation.”

Dr. Patel called on the students of IIT Bombay to lead the charge in advancing solar technology, urging them to focus on research to enhance the efficiency of photovoltaic cells, increase the lifespan of solar panels beyond 25 years, innovate in battery technologies for improved energy storage, explore alternatives like floating and vertical solar installations and integrate artificial intelligence to optimise solar energy systems.

“You have the intelligence, creativity and resources to push the boundaries of what is possible,” he said and pledged all kind of support required by either students or for IIT Bombay’s innovative sustainability projects and also invited them to visit KP Group’s renewable energy parks in Gujarat.

The event witnessed other thought-provoking sessions, including a presentation on Avoid, Shift, and Improve framework by Dr. KVK Rao, Deputy Director of IIT Bombay, and insights on sustainable public transport by Ramamoorthy Sankaranarayanan, Secretary, Fee Regulatory Authority, Government of Maharashtra.

The event also featured the launch of a recycled paper newsletter and an innovative Carbon Footprint Calculator, symbolising the spirit of innovation and environmental responsibility. The dignitaries lit solar-powered diyas, symbolising hope for a greener future, to mark the commencement of SUSTAIN 5.0.

  • Priti Singh’s Charmbelleza Cosmetics shines as a Made in India brand, offering conscious cosmetics

Priti Singh’s Charmbelleza Cosmetics shines as a Made in India brand, offering conscious cosmetics

New Delhi [India], January 21: Only a handful of brands and businesses today have reached the forefront of their respective niches and have stood unique from the rest. Ever wondered what could be the reasons helping these brands shine brighter than others in usually competitive business markets? Among a myriad of reasons, one factor that has remained a defining factor for success for many is the brand’s authenticity. Priti Singh, a founder, beautypreneur, and the heart and soul behind the brand Charmbelleza Cosmetics says, “When you build your brand from the ground up and infuse in its honesty and authenticity, you feel confident that it will reach most people across demographics and resonate with them well enough to inspire them to buy those products.”

At Charmbelleza Cosmetics, Priti Singh and her team of passionate professionals are dedicated to revolutionising people’s beauty routines with 100% vegetarian and cruelty-free products. The brand has grown as a beauty brand designed specifically for the modern millennial woman and has excelled in delivering long-wear makeup and effective skincare solutions that exceed expectations. Silk foundation, banana powder, magic drops, lipstick, silicon primer, dual eye shadow, or liquid eyeliner, Charmbelleza Cosmetics offers it all at cost-effective prices.

    Charmbelleza Cosmetics

Charmbelleza Cosmetics offers products for lips(lipsticks), eyes (eyeshadow and eyeliner), face (foundation, primer, drop, and powder),  combos and many more. The brand has been making a lot of noise in the cosmetics sector as a made-in-India brand because it is 100% vegetarian and cruelty-free, with long-lasting formulas free from parabens and sulfates, inclusive and trend-driven, and authentic and distinctive. The website’s interface is also quite easy to understand.

Speaking about what ignited the fire within her to start a brand like Charmbelleza Cosmetics, Priti Singh said, “I saw a gap in the beauty industry when I noticed more and more brands only offering unsafe and chemically-driven products. I felt the need to break this industry pattern and offer people something that could work on their skin while being safe. This ignited the fire within me to start something as meaningful as Charmbelleza Cosmetics, offering safe, vegan and natural products made in India for all types of people.”

Recalling the challenges, she said how they worked on a salary basis and gathered some money to start a couple of businesses, such as a unisex salon and a mobile cover online website; however, nothing worked for them. Later, finding purpose in the beauty and cosmetics world changed their perspective as they realised most of the products were sourced from China and other countries in India. This inspired them to start selling Indian cosmetics, fully vegan at a nominal cost, emphasising Indians using an Indian brand.

Offering Indian and vegan products at affordable rates, Charmbelleza Cosmetics has already created quite a buzz in the industry. Priti Singh, the founder, aims to see the brand at the top, competing with others in the industry. Charmbelleza shines as a perfect made-in-India cosmetics brand where luxury meets accessibility and affordability.

  • Grey Market Premium (GMP) in IPOs: What It Means and How It Works

Grey Market Premium (GMP) in IPOs: What It Means and How It Works

New Delhi [India], January 21: We all know shares can be legally bought and traded in two markets, the primary and secondary markets. The Securities Exchange Board of India regulates and controls both markets. In the Primary Market, shares of companies are first launched to potential investors. The shares are then listed on the stock exchange for free trading.

Do you know there’s another informal market that works on the basis of trust? SEBI does not control it.

This blog will tell us about a second market that we previously mentioned.

    What is Grey Market

Grey market is an informal, closed and unofficial market without any general rules. The IPO GMP is based on the principle of trust. It is not regulated.

The grey market is not a formal exchange. It is an unofficial and therefore not regulated market. Transactions are private. Investors are responsible for all risks involved in trading on such a market. Unregistered dealers are used to assist in the trading. IPO GMP/GMP should be a concept that you understand if you’re interested in IPOs. Learn about the grey-market premium.

What is a Grey Market Premium?

IPO GMP is the premium at which shares can be traded at in the IPO gray market. It is the stock traded in the secondary or primary market after a company has launched its IPO.

We will use an example to better understand the GMP for IPOs. Imagine a company called X Ltd. launched its IPO at Rs 200. The grey market premium is Rs 10 When the IPO period ends, it is presumed that the shares will be listed at Rs 210. It may not always work this way.

How does the Grey Market Work?

You can earn money on the grey market in two different ways:

    • You can trade shares in the gray market before they are listed on the stock exchange.
    • Your IPO application can be sold to earn money

Let us discuss each of these methods separately.

    Grey market trading types

Buying/Selling IPO Shares in the Grey Market before they are listed on the Stock Exchange

    • You can apply for the shares that are offered at the IPO. When you apply for the IPO, you take on certain risks. You may not receive any shares or they may be listed below the issue price. You are referred to as a seller.
    • Let’s say that your friends believe the shares are worth more than their original issue price. Your friends will begin to accumulate these shares before the allocation of IPO shares. Your friends are called buyers in this situation.
    • Your friends will order IPO shares with the help of dealers on the grey market. Your friends want to  pay a premium for the IPO shares.
    • The dealers on the grey market then contact you. You may be asked to sell your shares at a certain premium.
    • Say you’re not prepared to take on the risks associated with an IPO. You’re tempted by the high premium that is offered. You decide to sell the shares to the dealer. You record your gains. You will need to agree on a price with the seller before you can book the deal.
    • You have now given the dealer the information. He will tell your friends about it. He will tell them that he bought a certain number of shares.
    • The allotment is now complete. You might or might not be allocated any shares based on the IPO allotment status.
    • If you received the shares as part of the allocation process, the dealers on the grey market may contact you.
    • You may be asked to sell shares at a certain price. You may also be asked to transfer your shares onto someone else’s Demat Account.
    • The settlement for your sale of shares may be determined by two factors. You can choose between 1) the profit or loss that you have incurred 2) the GMP where you and your friends are transacting
    • Let’s imagine that you didn’t get any shares at allotment. No settlement can be made. This is how the IPO gray market trades shares.

Grey market IPOs: Buying and Selling IPO Applications

    • The same as the trading of Initial Offering’s applications, both buyers and sellers are involved. You and your friends.
    • You and your friends will determine the price of the application based on market conditions.
    • You may receive a call from a friend who says they are interested in purchasing your Offerings app for a certain amount or premium.
    • You can sell your application at a premium to any of your friends through a grey-market dealer if you want to be secure.
    • You don’t have to worry about getting shares in an IPO. You will still receive the GMP if your application is not approved during the allocation process.
    • You will need to send an application form. The dealer will tell your friend that you sold him the application at a certain premium.
    • You may or may be able to get shares at the time of allotment.
    • Imagine you receive shares as part of the allocation process. You will have two choices. You might be asked to transfer your shares to someone’s Demat or to trade them at a certain premium.
    • The settlement of shares is based on gains or losses.
    • If you did not receive any shares, then the deal is automatically cancelled.
    • You can still  get the premium you received when you exchanged the application.

This is how the grey market operates.

How does GMP work for IPOs?

Calculating GMP is not difficult. Let us say the price of XYZ’s IPO was Rs 900 per share. The GMP is 100 Rs. The shares of the organization are then expected to be listed at Rs 1000. The value of the GMP varies every day depending on the demand for shares.

We can therefore calculate the value of an share’s GMP by: GMPR = Grey Market premium * number of shares

    Final Words

The grey market premium is a way to determine the performance of an IPO after its listing. It is only a guide and not a guarantee of accuracy. It would be helpful if you took into consideration that the activities are very risky. You should only engage in these activities after thorough research and analysis.
