Cup-ji – A Young start-up’s innovation finds its place on a Global stage

February 4: Everyone knows green tea means healthy. But how many could have imagined green tea could ever be tasty!

Aakash (26) and Jay Sotta (23),  hailing from a family history in tea trade for over a century now, set out on a mission to redefine how green tea is consumed in India. They innovated at two levels – firstly, they devised a simple yet effective system that sandwiches green tea leaves and natural ingredients between the base of the paper cup and a smartly fitted paper filter, making it convenient to brew. Secondly, they had a unique approach to green tea, by introducing them in Indian flavours like Paan and Chatkara, which made the green tea drinking experience seamless and pleasurable without compromising on the health benefits. With Cup-ji, all you need is hot water that you can pour into the cup, and voila! Your refreshing beverage is ready!

This combination of Indian flavours and goodness of Ayurveda, coupled with this simple and effective system that has nominated Cup-ji as one of the top 4 finalists in the Most Innovative Beverage category in Gulfood 2021, the largest International F&B event, seeing exhibitors from 85 countries and attendees from 156 countries, becoming the only brand to represent India on this global stage.

“Gulfood is the most important event of the year for food professionals looking to source the latest products, gauge market developments, and connect with global suppliers.”

As a representative of India in this International F&B event, Cup-ji has achieved a remarkable feat in its very 1st year of launch!

For a country that begins its day with “Ek garam chai ki pyaali”, where chai means a concoction of sugar, milk, and patti, where tea is boiled to make it “Kadak”, the concept of “brewing” green tea seems a long and hard road. So naturally, it will take a disruptive innovation to either educate the consumers or simply make it effortless. They chose to make it convenient and introduced Cup-ji which only requires customers to pour boiling water, without managing the messy strainers and risk of over brewing, leading to a bitter after taste.

The co-founders, Aakash and Jay Sotta, realized that the key to reaching its audience is to make the experience as familiar to the Indian diaspora as possible, and hence, Cup-ji has launched Paan and Chatkara variants, the scents that every Indian is not only familiar to, but also has nostalgic memories with. These flavours have stayed on the palate of those who have tasted Cup-ji.

So far, Cup-ji has received tremendously positive reviews from everyone who has tried the product. They’re steadily penetrating the streets of Mumbai, the hometown of its founders, and Cup-ji will soon be a household name in all parts of the country, and all corners of the world!

You can check them out on www.cupji.com

ClassAct 2022, The Hindustan Times Republic Day Quiz breaks records, holds the new record for the maximum participation in an online school quiz

According to the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records, ClassAct 2022 holds the record of maximum participation in an online school quiz

New Delhi (India), February 3: ClassAct 2022, The Hindustan Times Republic Day Quiz has been officially declared by the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records as the record holder for the ‘Maximum Participation in an Online School Quiz’. It saw record participation of students from 32 countries across five continents in its Preliminary round on 23rd January and concluded with a thumping success in Grand Finale on 26th January 2022.  This only goes to say that quizzing has been able to retain its own place in the minds of today’s youngsters despite tough competition from other forms of edutainment. This record-breaking quiz was hosted by the most celebrated quizmasters of the country, Dr. Navin Jayakumar and Avinash Mudaliar.

“I have never seen a quiz of this large a turnout in my entire life. We have seen participation of students from countries like Guatemala and Ethiopia, countries which were only answers for us in quizzes. This is not a winner-takes-it-all quiz. We wanted to completely change that entire format and encourage students from across the globe to participate,” says Mr. Mudaliar.

ClassAct 2022, The Hindustan Times Republic Day Quiz, announced 80 quizzing champions: 40 overall winners and 40 champions from the Junior Category (Grades I-V). Here is a snapshot of the top 10 in each category and what they stand to win. ClassAct 2022 had a total of 1.50 lakh worth Amazon gift vouchers that were up for grabs. Additionally, 25 viewers from the audience also got a chance to participate and win exciting Amazon vouchers.

For the winners, the quiz proved to be a truly unique experience. Speaking to HT School, Pranjali Mishra, the topper of the Grand Finale of ClassAct 2022, said, “This is the first time that I have participated in an international quiz.” This Class VI student from Delhi Public School, NOIDA thoroughly enjoyed it. “I found the question on baby shark to be fun during the Finale while the one about Taj Mahal was the most interesting one.”

Many participants found the Grand Finale to be more challenging than the Prelims. Sanjay Senthilnathan who stood second in the Finale of the quiz, said, “The questions in the Grand Finale were tough. However, the manner in which they were presented by the quiz masters made all the difference for me. They kept us motivated throughout the contest. My biggest takeaway from ClassAct 2022 has been the fact that it has motivated me to participate in more quizzes now.”

According to the Arush Aroh, who grabbed the third spot in the Grand Finale, what set ClassAct 2022 apart from others in the ilk was the way it was conducted. “The hints shared by the quiz masters were so helpful that even if someone knew 5% about the topic, they would be able to get to the answer. I also gathered quite a few fruitful insights during the whole process,” he said.

The junior champions from the Prelims also seemed to be equally thrilled. Bhuvana Kumar Gopal, who was the topper in this category, said, “It was very encouraging and a great learning opportunity for me.” Echoing a similar spirit, Dhruva Meghashyam Shirodkar, who grabbed the 3rd position in the junior category, said, “It’s actually my first solo quiz and I feel really good about coming third in it.”

    THE FORMAT

ClassAct 2022 was a one-of-its kind opportunity for budding quizzers of Grades 1 to 12 to put their general knowledge, resourcefulness and logical reasoning to test. This online quiz, hosted by Mr. Mudaliar and Dr. Jayakumar, was divided into two rounds: Prelims and the Grand Finale. While the preliminary round was asynchronous and hosted on Quizizz, an online assessment platform, the final was live and conducted on both Zoom and Quizizz.

The screening process for the Prelims and the Finale was completely automated. The Quizizz platform auto-calculated the rank based on the speed and accuracy of all the students who attempted the quiz. Basis this ranking, 175 finalists were chosen and thereafter, 40 winners each from the final round and the Junior Category (Grade I-V) of the Prelims. The Grand Finale started from 3 PM on 26th January with a welcome speech and introduction of the quizmasters. In order to help budding quizzers hone their skill, Dr. Jayakumar explained the answers of the Prelims questions before the quiz commenced. The final round actually started from 4 PM. Immediately after the Grand Finale, 40 junior champions from the preliminary round were announced and the list of the top 40 finalists was out this Saturday. They are available on the official page of ClassAct 2022, The Hindustan Times Republic Day Quiz.

PARTICIPATION: A SNAPSHOT FROM INDIA AND THE WORLD

As already mentioned, Class Act 2022 saw record breaking participation in its preliminary round. • Indian government take bold steps on digital currency in Budget 2022, Market analyst Deepak Talwar welcomes the move

Indian government take bold steps on digital currency in Budget 2022, Market analyst Deepak Talwar welcomes the move

February 3: The government has suggested a 30 per cent tax on the transfer of any virtual digital asset. The finance minister said today in Budget 2022 that no deductions other than acquisition costs will be allowed, and no transaction losses will be carried forward. And, the second big move is that starting in FY 2022-23, the Reserve Bank of India will issue digital rupees utilising blockchain and other technologies. Seasoned market analyst and lobbyist Deepak Talwar identifies the benefits and shares his views on the same.

For a few months, the RBI was working on a plan to create the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The government has now made a public announcement about a digital currency, however, the RBI has yet to test the new digital asset and reveal its plans for the technology framework. Market analyst Deepak Talwar informs, “If India continues to its intentions, it will become one of the world’s major economies to implement a so-called central bank digital currency (CBDC), following in the footsteps of China, which is already testing a digital yuan. The central bank’s adoption of digital currency will result in more efficient and cost-effective currency management.”

The digital currency will not be a replacement for fiat currency, but rather a digital equivalent that may be transacted through RBI-regulated blockchain-based exchanges. The RBI may outsource some digital rupee operations to banks, and depositors may be given the option of converting their deposits to digital rupee. According to the market expert Deepak Talwar, this will provide the economy a significant boost while also allowing for more cost-effective and efficient currency management.

For a long time, virtual digital asset trading platforms in India have battled to achieve acceptance and progress. Despite having been in India for nearly a decade, these networks only have about 25 million active users out of a population of 1.4 billion.

Investors have been stopped from reaching the market due to a lack of understanding of virtual digital asset market dynamics and valuations, a lack of legal framework and regulatory rules, and concerns about the safety of investments in the relatively new-formed currency. As per the new budget, the income earned through the transfer of any such digital assets will be taxed at 30 per cent, with an additional 1 per cent tax deduction at the source available during such transactions.

“It is a tremendous move forward by India for three reasons,” Deepak Talwar said of the significant statement on virtual digital asset income taxation. “First, this move recognises them as a valid asset class and its trading as a legitimate activity. Second, tax clarity will attract more people to this industry, resulting in further growth. Finally, a well-regulated eco-system will generate a climate conducive to innovation.”

He adds, “The government’s decision not to ban virtual digital assets, which had been pending for a long time, has provided additional clarity. It means that the government does not intend to put a stop to the activities related to them, but rather wants to move in a direction with clear norms and regulations.”

“Virtual digital assets have gained remarkable popularity in recent years, according to the budget memorandum, and the volume of trading in such digital assets has expanded significantly,” says Talwar, seasoned market analyst and lobbyist. He further informs, “A market is forming in which payment for the transfer of a virtual digital asset can be made using another virtual digital asset. As a result, the Bill proposes a new scheme to provide for their taxation.”

By permitting these assets to be taxed, and introducing CBDB, they have finally been given legitimacy by the Indian government. This is a breath of fresh air for this business, as well as a stimulus for creativity. India is currently undergoing a financial system transformation. This marks the start of a new India.
