  • Reinventing Sustainable Art in a Contemporary Style – Guddee

An initiative to create a sustainable life for the artisans

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 19: Guddee, a for-profit organization that works with the artisans across India for handicrafts revival and a sustainable income for the artisans, announced their Diwali campaign from 18th October 2021 to 3rd November 2021.

This Diwali campaign aims to create awareness and consideration among the consumers in India to opt for authentic handicrafts made by the artisans directly instead of machine-made products. India is the second-largest employing sector in handicrafts and handloom with 7 million official artisans, but due to Covid, these sectors were severely affected. Therefore, Guddee is running a Diwali Campaign to support the artisans. We all must try to buy handicrafts and handloom to help them revive and earn their livelihoods. This campaign is a small effort by the brand to support this ancient art form of India that must not fade away.

Guddee, a young and vibrant handicraft organization, was incepted in June 2021. The aim behind its inception was to focus on conserving both traditional art and the livelihood of the artisans. The Founder, Ms. Haritha Singh, always had an eye for creativity and kept in touch with artisans from various pockets of the country during her travel and minor assignments. She had worked for almost four years with different artisans based in urban, semi-urban, and rural districts. During the initial days of the pandemic, many artisans contacted her for giving them work and helping them in earning their livelihood, and that’s how Guddee was born early this year.

Under the guidance of Haritha, artisans create unique, exclusive and multi-utility handicrafts with contemporary designs to suit the modern house. The focus is to generate exclusively customizable off the shelve handicrafts/handlooms. The categories of products that they offer are -gifting, décor and lifestyle. A few products like 3-in-1 chisel collection tea light holders, faux leather tea light holders, plus wall decor and brooches are the key highlights of the Diwali campaign. The organization has recently started working with generation-old artisan families from Channapatna, Andhra Pradesh, Saharanpur, Jaipur and Kutch.

Talking about the Diwali Campaign, Ms Haritha Singh, Founder of Guddee, said, “Traditional handicrafts always left me enchanted, and my connections with the artisans Pan-India made me focus on conserving both traditional art and livelihood of the artisans. But through Guddee, I wanted customers to experience the conventional handicraft in a modern way; therefore, we create new designs and products which is multi-use. The team works towards creating variations in a single design along with the possibility of customization. We work more collaboratively where we plan to onboard hobbyists and designers to make unique handicrafts. The aim is to create a community that buys, designs, contributes and in real sense build a string revival plan for handicrafts and handloom’s”.

She further added, “Guddee doesn’t work on the drop-shipping model. Every product we list or create with our artisan is quality checked by our design house. Artisans love developing new designs and products as it opens the horizons of their creative minds. We want customers to own handicrafts that speak to them and fit this Diwali campaign’s key quality, functionality, and affordability matrix. I aim to reach at least five artisan families in each traditional art form and make them a part of Guddee’s ever-growing family.”

To date, 35+ artisan families are actively working for the organization. Simultaneously, the brand is onboarding more from different parts of the country to grow this family.

In the years to come, we aim to build strong marketing alliances and strategies to increase online and corporate sales, making the whole process a cycle of constant growth for the brand, the artisan and their family, and our happy customer base. We currently have a platform capability to choose colors and designs in one product by having variations in the same, increasing customization possibilities. Each product is quality checked and has an easy return policy.

To further light up the Diwali campaign, famous TV celebrities like Jaya Bhattacharya, Rushad Rana, Jyoti Gauba, and many more have shown their keen interest in supporting the campaign and tag along to spread the word  ‘yeh Diwali ‘Guddee’ness wali, apno se tohfa Karigari wali.’

So, buy your very own customized handicraft this Diwali and make your home bright and your artisan’s life brighter!

  • Setting a new paradigm to bring wellness through awareness, digitally

HEAL Foundation has launched ‘Health4All Online’ – a Weekly Health Show to bring wellness through awareness

New Delhi (India) October 19: To provide a credible platform for better health consciousness and awareness about health and wellness to the people digitally and to address the post-COVID health challenges, HEAL Foundation has launched ‘Health4All Online’, a one-of-its-kind weekly health show every Sunday. The meticulously designed ‘Weekly Health Show’ aims to bring wellness through awareness.

While throwing light on the changing state of variants and the vaccines at the inaugural session of ‘Health4All Online’ Weekly Health Show brought by HEAL Foundation, Guest of Honour and eminent scientist, Prof G Padmanaban, Padma Bhushan, Former Director, IISc, President NASI, Chancellor CUTN, said, “There are two variants of COVID virus – Variant of Concern (VoC) and Variant of Action (VoA). And scientists believe that the Delta variant is the variant of concern, which is not so severe. But vaccines are essential because it protects us, and the severity of diseases is also prevented. As far as the variants are concerned, the Delta variant is not the end of the story. The larger question is – do we have the vaccine for every variant being created? Perhaps not. Thus, I feel that in the middle of next year, India may need the third dose of vaccine. More so, the wonderful initiative ‘Health4All Online’ weekly health show brought by HEAL Foundation in bringing awareness about health and wellness in the masses is commendable indeed.”

“We work for healthcare improvements through various programmes to bring health impacts in the society. Last year, we started COVID Fighters Public Health Safety Movement since the outbreak of COVID in India to bring education and awareness to the masses, which has completed its 500 days and ceaselessly going on. The key learnings of the movement were the abundance of misinformation, disinformation around, and the lack of information in the masses from credible sources. Our various healthcare experts are credible sources for health information. To bring health awareness through experts, we have started the ‘Health4All Online’ weekly health show with the support of ‘Viatris Pharma’. The show will cover preventive health & wellness issues, comorbidities, and various other health issues with respective experts. Weekly Health Round-up capsule and a special session on food and nutrition will be the part of the show,” says Dr Swadeep Srivastava, Founder HEAL Foundation & HEAL Health.

Dr Srivastava added, “The show is also live on our following social media channels. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rSspzkrWBA8

    https://www.facebook.com/healfoundationindia/videos/4599687863386437

Special Guest at the inaugural session, Ajay Bhatia, Vice President, Head of India Commercial, Viatris, said, “The pandemic has brought lots of problems in the lives of people. Now everyone has turned health-conscious, and they are looking for health solutions. Hence, it becomes important to spread post-pandemic awareness amongst the masses, wherein the upcoming weekly health show – ‘Health4All Online’ brought by the HEAL Foundation is the need of the hour. Through this show, we expect to reach out to the majority to address their post-COVID health & wellness needs.”

Mr Naresh Hasija, Vice President, Head of Public Health Business, India Commercial, Viatris, said, “There should be more focus on prevention and awareness as we have been passing through the post-pandemic era. Now, we should move from illness to wellness. I thank HEAL Foundation for setting the stage for this fantastic initiative – the ‘Health4All Online’ weekly health show. This weekly health show is supposed to bring wellness through awareness to the lives of millions of people.”

Speaking at the inaugural session of ‘Health4All Online’ Weekly Health Show, Special Guest, Prof K Srinath Reddy, Padma Bhushan, President, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), said, “Whether it is COVID pandemic or day-to-day health problems we encounter, many of us will require adequate knowledge to prevent, counter and manage the health problems effectively. Therefore, enhancing health literacy is vital. Wearing a mask, maintaining physical distancing, and the right kind of nutrition are required to be followed. We need participatory healthcare where people partner public health to secure solidarity at national and global levels. For that, we need to dispel the myths, counter the fake news, and promote the right kind of health and nutrition literacy.”

Speaking at the 1st episode of ‘Health4All Online’ Weekly Health Show, Prof K Sekar, Head, Centre for Psycho-Social Support in Disease Management, NIMHANS, said, “Health is a state of complete mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease, or infirmity. Mental health is an integral part of health, and there is no health without mental health. In the post COVID times when people are suffering from stress and anxiety, to promote mental health, we need to treat others with dignity and respect, provide emotional support and ensure community inclusion. We need to bring community resilience by ABC – Awareness, Behaviour change, and Continuation through collaboration.”

  • A unique initiative by H&B Skin Clinic on this Diwali

A free medical camp was organized for the girls of Special Home Care and also purchased the organic divas made by them

Surat (Gujarat) [India], October 18: Dr. Bansi Hirpara, H&B Skin Clinic, recently organized a free medical camp for girls of G.S.N.P+ organization, a Special Home Care on Sunday, October 17. In this camp, examination and medication were free of cost.

Dr. Bansi Hirpara believes that all girls of Special Home Care are part of our society. We should take care of them and should be treated equally. This unique initiative was taken with the sole aim of the medical camp was to boost the confidence and motivate these girls to become part of our society and live a proud life.

Dr. Bansi observed that on the occasion of Diwali, we give gifts to our friends and relatives; she thought, why not help and contribute to our society on this occasion. So, she came up with an idea to purchase cow dung’s organic divas handmade by girls of Special HomeCare and tried to instil confidence in girls through a free medical camp.

This will not only enlighten the happiness in these girls but will also spread little light in their lives too in this festival of Diwali. She also protected Cows (Gaumata) from going to the slaughterhouse and also contributed to Gauraksha.

India is a country where girls are considered as Mata Laxmi and Cow as sacred of all animals. Thus, on this Diwali, when Goddess is worshipped, Dr. Bansi set an exceptional example of true devotion towards society by Gauraksha and helpful to the girls of Special Home Care.

  • Devi Mandai, An attempt to showcase the entire gamut of Bastar Tribal Culture before the world

October 18: Bastar, an abode of rich tribal culture and phenomenally beautiful natural wonders, certainly has some unique perks if we visit during October, around Navratri, because that is the time when the world-famous Bastar Dussehra takes place every year. Bastar Dussehra is a versatile festival, and one should do a Dussehra tour of Bastar to have an insight into the culture of Bastar region.  A celebration of awe and reverence making Bastar a confluence of man and God; a festival that is celebrated for 75 days, where even gods are believed to come to take part. Bastar Dussehra is undoubtedly the best chance to photograph tribal customs, attire and to know about the simplicity and uniqueness of tribal living. Bastar Dussehra, beyond doubt, is one of the most enthralling festivals of India, especially due to its tribal aspect and occult rituals. Colourful streets of Jagdalpur all decked to celebrate the festival of their guardian Goddess Maa Danteshwari. Unlike every year, Bastar Dussehra 2021 is being celebrated in a comparatively simple manner in view of the worldwide sudden catastrophic ramification caused due to the spread of CoronaVirus. However, all the traditional rituals are being carried out with full devotion and fervour, but with adherence to strict Social Distancing standards for the prevention of covid infection.

One must visit Bastar during this period to get mesmerised by the tribal festivities. Bamboo artwork articles, jute made collectables, bell metal art, forest-based unique items like frankincense, medicinal plants, scrambled ants (Chiti ki chatni) and many more astounding things. Therefore in order to take all these lesser-known unique experiences to the world, Chhattisgarh State Government, along with Bastar District Administration, came up with a unique initiative of “Devi Madhai ” (fair of the Goddess).

Madhai is a traditional concept of a community village fair that is widely prevalent far and wide of Chhattisgarh’s culture. It is usually a small scale local village fair organised on various occasions every year. However, this year’s devi mandai was one of its kind madhai fair, which was organised for the first time during Bastar Dussehra and was completely themed upon tribal life and culture.

Bastar’s devi Madhai was successfully organised on the evening of 13th  October in Jagdalpur in front of the Danteshwari temple.

This madhai fair had 3 made pandals, each showcasing different goods and unique products and delicacies related to various aspects of the tribal culture of Bastar. Among these, one pandal showcased Folk songs of Bastar, the second one had tribal folk dance and one for the depiction of folklore and legends, respectively. Apart from these, the main attraction of Devi Madhai was the stalls with Bastaria handicrafts like various products including bell metal crafts, ferrous alloy crafts, clay crafts, bamboo crafts, sisal crafts, woodenware and many more collectables and souvenirs were displayed in these pandals for those individuals who want to take a little part of Bastar along with them to their homes.

Special arrangements regarding security, traffic and parking, crowd management and social distancing were made so that the people who visited this fest may enjoy it properly without any hassle and apprehension of corona infection. Arrangements of attractive lighting and CCTV Cameras were also installed for security purposes. District Collector Rajat Bansal personally administered the arrangements on a prior basis and also supervised the event thoroughly in order to ensure its successful organisation.

“With so much of awesomeness around, I was kind of mesmerised and was repeatedly clicking the snaps from my camera, to show my friends in Delhi about the fun I had in Bastar Dussehra and Devi Madhai, said Suyash Pande, a lawyer from Delhi who visited Bastar Dussehra for the first time.

Food stalls to quench the thirst and hunger of the tourists were also a massive attraction, especially among the outsiders, which were serving a wide range of local and indigenous bastaria cuisine.

Collector Rajat Bansal said that Bastar Dussehra of Chhattisgarh, which is celebrated for a span of 75 days, is a major centre of attraction in the whole world, especially for those who are connoisseurs of tribal art and culture. Tourists visiting Bastar Dussehra not only could get acquainted with the rituals of Dussehra, but also we started Devi Madai so that all the tourists coming to Bastar can join the Bastar’s people through this Devi Madai and become a part of the traditional festival of the entire Bastar in a short time and cherish the experience of the culture and tradition of Bastar.

With the 75 days, long Bastar Dussehra progressing towards its conclusion, this unique initiative of Devi Madhai shall leave an everlasting impression of enjoyment, awe and reverence of devotion, togetherness, festivities and colourful culture of Bastar in the minds of the visitors. In a short while, of one day this Devi madhai has depicted the entire life and dwelling of Bastar and its inseparable part of tribal culture and living, and the sounds of glee and festivities this 75-day long festival is about to get finished with again in absolute serenity with its dwellers receding back to havens.

  • Eleven legal rights in India that you must know as an Indian Citizen

An insight into citizen’s legal rights in India by Sarthak Chaturvedi, Lawyer at Supreme Court

New Delhi (India), October 16: Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve been victimized, discriminated against, or taken advantage of, and you didn’t act since you weren’t sure whether you could or not? Well, it’s time to empower yourself legally and understand your rights as an Indian citizen. While most of us Indians are aware of some of our basic legal rights, here are some of them which you might not know about.

1- The right to file an FIR-

According to the Indian Penal Code, 166 A, A Police officer can’t refuse to lodge an FIR. As an Indian citizen, you have a right to file an FIR for a cognizable offense, and a police officer who refuses to lodge the FIR is punishable for committing a crime under Section 166A(c) of the Indian Penal Code. The Supreme Court has said that in such cases, “the police officer will be liable for prosecution and punishment.”

    How to exercise this right?

Visit the police station (ideally near the crime scene) and present all the information before the concerned officer in charge. Also, Section 154 of the CrPC gives a choice to the informant to furnish information orally or in writing.

Note: Guidelines issued by the Delhi Police entitle women to the privilege of registering a complaint via email or even through the post if they can’t go to the police station.

What to do when your right is violated?

If the concerned officer in charge refuses to register a first information report about the commission of a cognizable offense within his territorial jurisdiction under Sec. 154(3) following actions can be taken –

    (a) Approach The Superintendent of Police:

The informant can approach any senior officer of police or the Superintendent of Police, or the Commissioner of the police with a written complaint.

If the Superintendent of Police is satisfied that such information discloses the commission of a cognizable offense then, he might investigate the case himself or direct an investigation to be made by any police officer subordinate to him.

    (b) Complaint to Judicial Magistrate:

If even after submitting a complaint to Senior Police officials no FIR is lodged, then the informant is legally entitled to file a complaint to the Judicial Magistrate/ Metropolitan Magistrate u/s 156(3) read with Section 190 of the criminal procedure, thereby requesting the FIR to be registered by the police and commencing investigation into the matter.

    (c) Legal Remedy:

A Writ Petition may be filed in respective High Court for seeking damages/compensation if the inaction of the Police on the complaint/non-registration of FIR has resulted in frustration/deprivation of ―life and liberty of any person, guaranteed under Article 21 of Constitution of India.

2- The right to claim a refund-

The Consumer Protection Act of 1986 guarantees every consumer the right to a complete refund if they are not satisfied with their purchase or in the event that the consumer has not been able to utilize the services that he had paid for.

In fact, It is illegal and an unfair trade practice to print “No exchange or refund” on bills and invoices.

What to do when your right is violated?

In case money is not refunded by the company, you can send a legal notice. If the money is still not refunded, file a complaint in the consumer forum for deficiency in service. You can also register a criminal complaint of cheating against the defaulters.

3- Right of parents to be maintained by their children-

According to the Section 125 of Cr. P.C, parents (father or mother whether biological, adoptive or stepfather or stepmother, whether senior citizen or not) have the right to claim maintenance from their adult children.

What to do when your right is violated?

Approach the court with sufficient proof that your sons/ daughters who are capable of supporting you have neglected to do so. An application for maintenance may be filed against any person, liable to pay the same.

4- Right to equal pay for equal work-

The Equal Remuneration Act, 1976 is a law that mandates equal pay for both men and women for equal work done by them. When two or more people have done the same work under similar circumstances, they are entitled to be compensated equally.

What to do when your right is violated?

Employees have the right to file a complaint with the concerned labor authorities when an employer breaches these provisions.

The appropriate labor authority, after verifying the merits of the case, may initiate an inquiry into this matter and take the appropriate action.

Note: Employers are required to maintain registers that should contain the particulars of the remuneration of their employees.

5- The rights of a woman when arrested-

As per section 46 of the criminal procedure code ( CrPc), apart from exceptional circumstances, no woman can be taken into custody before sunrise or sunset (After 6 pm and before 6 am). And, under no circumstances a male police officer can arrest a woman.
