  • Akshi Singal – One of a kind Entrepreneur

New Delhi, Augb 10: Entrepreneur, that is, a person who undertakes an enterprise; a word that has become commonplace in today’s corporate environment; we hear practically every day. And yet, Akshi Singal, the focus of our story today, came to us with a unique question. She wondered – while we routinely term individuals starting new businesses as “entrepreneurs”, why don’t we hear the term being used in the context of professionals? A doctor, a lawyer or a chartered accountant who undertake their enterprise. Are they not entrepreneurs? This got us thinking – so we decided to cover Akshi Singal – a professional and an entrepreneur whose focus is on assisting growing enterprises. An entrepreneur for entrepreneurs.

Akshi Singal is a chartered accountant and holds a specialization in international tax law from the prestigious Leiden University, a law degree from Mumbai University and a B.Com (Hons) from Delhi University, where she served as Vice President of her student body. Having grown up in a house of a passionate entrepreneur, she was instinctively attracted to the idea of creating something of her own. Akshi began her career imbibing the industry best practices through over 7 years with leading firms like PWC, Deloitte and BMR. However, upon witnessing the monumental shift in the national sentiment towards promoting start-ups, Akshi decided this was the right time for her to realize her dream and start her career as an entrepreneur. She left the comfort of her job to open and run an office in Mumbai independently.

Akshi understands that an overwhelming majority of start-ups close down within five years of establishment, often due to a lack of proper professional guidance. Having advised on the buy and sell-side of investments in different start-ups, she sees an existing vacuum for growing enterprises that find it challenging to access expensive professional assistance. Moreover, such enterprises have little understanding of the complex regulatory regime they seek to function within and desperately seek trustworthy professionals who can take care of the technicalities, focusing on growing the core business. With this guiding principle, Akshi has built her practice around becoming a one-stop-shop for the regulatory needs of growing enterprises and providing end-to-end client servicing from entity selection and co-founder agreements to taxation, regulatory and legal advisory to both start-ups and start-up investment networks.

Akshi believes that while the government has brought in several regulatory changes to facilitate the growth of new enterprises and promote the ease of doing business, there remain many opportunities for reform in the legal framework that can further augment and catapult the development of the start-up community. For instance, currently, a private company is restrained from accepting deposits, with a few exceptions. A very welcome change was brought in 2017 that enabled registered start-ups to accept monetary deposits from investors. However, given the cash flow situation of many start-ups, founders often face a cash crunch. They need to approach friends and extended family for bridge financing for short intervals of time. Allowing registered start-ups to easily accept deposits from any person, albeit up to a certain amount, with minimal compliance requirements, would significantly reduce the regulatory burden on founders. Secondly, registered start-ups who have filed a declaration for exemption from section 56(2)(viib) of the Income Tax Act are immune from angel tax. However, there is no exemption for start-ups from the provisions of section 68. It requires the recipient of a share application money to prove the identity and creditworthiness of the applicant and genuineness of the transaction. These impose an unduly onerous burden on start-up founders to verify their investors’ identity, authenticity, and creditworthiness before the tax authorities. Requiring start-ups to, at the most, prove the investor’s identity and shifting the onus of proving the investor’s creditworthiness and genuineness of the transaction to the investor will greatly relieve founders from high litigation costs and heavy tax burdens. Thirdly, from the investors’ viewpoint, avid investors would be more willing to invest in start-ups if they were exempted from the capital gains tax, subject to reinvestment of profits in registered start-ups. Finally, investor interest in the start-up space would increase if their investment was eligible for a deduction under Chapter VIA of the IT Act.

Being a female entrepreneur and a mother of a 4-year-old, Akshi is deeply aware of the balancing act every working mother faces while juggling a career with personal responsibilities and family. She is fascinated and motivated by the many female entrepreneurs that have held this baton and is deeply passionate about women entrepreneurship, actively promoting female employment in her firm. She is also cognizant of the struggles women face while pursuing dynamic careers and thankful for the tremendous family support she has received to pursue her dream.

  • Ram Alladi Bags the Best Director Award At The Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival For Ra Metanoia.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 14: Ram Alladi’s film Ra’s Metanoia has won significant critical acclaim and awards for Gandhi’s life. Shot entirely in New York and New Jersey, ‘Ra’s Metanoia’ combines vintage film styling with state of the art computer-generated sets to create this spellbinding non-linear telling of Gandhi’s life. Along with this sci-fi element, this periodic drama is of a 40-minute length. It depicts several events of his life, such as “Magic Spell of Book”, childhood days with mother Putlibai, father Karamchand Gandhi’s death, Bapu and Kasturba’s companion at Aga Khan Palace detention camp and cream part of the film the “Night before January 30th 1948”.

Mahatma Gandhi has been the subject of various books, films and series over the decades, and many of them have made headlines for its award-winning portrayal of the legend’s life. It may seem like there’s nothing much left to tell about Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. But his ever-evolving legacy and the indomitable spirit would never cease to enchant generations of Indians. New York-based independent filmmaker known for award-winning documentary Chiseled had something different to do for Gandhi, a childhood fascination. Gandhi’s life story gradually turned into an on-screen drama for Ram.

Director Ram said, talking about Ra Metanoia and winning several accolades, “It took me nearly 30 years to make this film. I personally feel it is such an amazing experience to have written the story and directed it. I’m honoured to have received numerous awards, including the award for best director from Dada Saheb Film Festival 2021 and best biographical film, best screenplay and best actor at the Oniros Film Awards – NY. • A chance encounter with Author, Entrepreneur and philanthropist Aditya Tikku

Aug 14: Today, we are catching up with a person who doesn’t have a million-dollar smile but gives a million-dollar effort to change people’s lives. Yes, you might have guessed it, it is Aditya Tikku. Read up on my encounter: –

Would you mind telling us something about yourself that we don’t know?

There is nothing to share just that I am in to textile business and writing, which is my passion.

You are a textile businessman, app developer, editor, and social worker; you are into counselling and organise spiritual shivers. Where do you get the motivation of doing so many things?

Ha! Ha! You are more updated on me than myself. Well, you are already aware of what I am doing. The only motivation behind it is good karma. Do your work and let the universe take its course.

Where do you see the position of India in the world after freedom of 75 years?

We are in an excellent position. The world has started listening to us. The world has started seeing us hoping that peace and humanity can come only through India. On the first day, we have got what other countries struggled with for centuries; the women’s suffrage movement was a decades-long fight to win the right to vote for women in the United States. It took activists and reformers nearly 100 years to win that right, and the campaign was not easy. Chinese are still dreaming of getting democracy. So, we have achieved a lot, and yes, there is still scope for many improvements.

Then why you have established your family abroad?

I have established my family!! My brother is struggling to get me established; I hope one day he will. Magazine to apps anything that I have ever done was just due to the support of my family. Moreover, my brother is working in Sri Lanka, but we all are Indian citizens and will always be.

Being a Kashmiri, what do you think about the removal of Article 370 & 35 A?

As an Indian and Kashmiri pandit, I will say this was one of the best things in 75 years of independence; it would have been great if it had been done earlier. The Centre paved the way for people outside Jammu and Kashmir to buy land in the union territory. In a gazette notification, the central government omitted the phrase “permanent resident of the state” from Section 17 of the Jammu and Kashmir Development Act that deals with land disposal in the union territory. However, the amendment did not allow the transfer of agricultural land to non-agriculturists except in few cases.

In July this year, the rules were changed to allow domicile certificates to be granted to the husbands of local women married to people from outside Jammu and Kashmir. The move will enable them to buy land or property in the Union territory or apply for government jobs. All people having resided in the UT for 15 years or studied for seven years and appeared in Class 10 or 12 examinations in an educational institution in the region are eligible for grant of domicile status along with their children.

After the abrogation of Article 370, the civil secretariat in Srinagar hoisted the Indian Tricolour while the state’s flag was missing. The rectangular flag – red background with three white vertical stripes alongside a white plough in the middle with the handle facing the stripes – fluttered next to the Indian national flag on the secretariat for more than six decades.

The CID wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police has ordered the denial of security clearance required for passport and other government services to all those involved in stone-pelting or subversive activities. The order was issued on July 31 and directed all the fields to ensure that the person’s involvement in law and order, stone-pelting cases, and other crime prejudicial to the state’s security be looked explicitly into during verification related to passport service and other government schemes.

In the early hours of August 5, hundreds of political leaders and workers – including three former chief ministers Mufti, Omar Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah – were detained. The Abdullahs were released in March 2020, and Mufti was freed in the second week of October last year. Since then, the leaders have come together – along with four other parties in Kashmir – to forge an informal alliance that aims to restore the region’s special status. It’s a Beginning

Sometimes, or I will say mostly, you support women blindly. Is it because you are a feminist?

Nothing as such, but yes, I try to stand with them. We need to be respectful towards women. We can claim anything we want, but the ground reality is women are still treated as second class citizens in many parts. We are narrow-minded people. Forget the outside world; in our homes, we send a girl to school and start feeling how great it is that we are educating girls. There is nothing extraordinary about that; it is the girl’s right as much as anyone else to get an education. Hardly do we support girls to choose their subject/career. We allow her to do a job till she gets married; after marriage, she can do what her husband and in-laws say. Girl can’t also cry for fear that family members will feel bad. Just imagine how much they do for us and how much we owe them; only then you will understand why it is necessary to stand with them.

  • 75th Independence Day: A Farmer’s Plight in an Agrarian Nation

A Farmers Plight in an Agrarian Nation

Dehradun, Aug 14: “Jai jawan, Jai Kisan” These words set forth by Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1965, our then Prime Minister, have been like a consistent echo throughout the nation. With the descent of time, the significance of farmers has continued to grow. From being dependent on foreign countries for food to being self-sufficient, everything has resulted from the fervour and endurance of farmers.

India is an agrarian country, meaning a majority of its population makes income through agriculture, which is why almost 70% of the Indian economy is backed by agriculture. It will be a grave understatement if Indian farmers are called anything but “the spine of the Indian economy.”

And although Shastri’s phrase has a ring to it even today, its truth has somewhat been lost.

    Farmer’s issue:

The farmers are our sole food providers. They had carried us out of the clutches of food scarcity before, and they continue to do so. Yet, even after 75 years of Independence, they haven’t been able to receive anything monumental in return. Instead, they live a life filled with hardships and farmer issues don’t seem to have a full stop yet. Around 80% of Indian farmers lead marginalized lives with less than a hectare of land. The lack of plentiful harvests and sufficient return from their crops has led to rising in farmer suicides. A 2021 report by the State of India’s Environment (SoE) highlighted that 5763 farmers from 20 states (including the Union Territories) & 4586 farm labourers from 21 states had committed suicides in 2018. This number was bumped up in 2019 to 5957 farmers from 17 states.

Although crop failure is a major contributor to these fatalities, the lack of financial aid tops the list. The farmers put all their capital on the line in order to grow quality crops. To sell their crop & food products to the consumers, the farmers go through numerous middlemen who snatch the majority of the return. It leaves the farmers with little to nothing.

While the government provides the farmers with a Minimum Support Price (MSP), it doesn’t even come as close as half of the input. The markets are often down in the aftermath of harvests; this forces the farmers to sell their produce for meagre costs and drowns them into debt. A 2016 survey called “The Economic Survey” states that a farmer’s average annual income only goes as far as ₹20,000 & less.

Current scenario – Farmers Amendment Bill:

In the recent months, India has witnessed mass farmers’ protests against the Farm Bills passed in the parliament, namely:

    • Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020;
    • Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and
    • Farm Services Act 2020 and
    • Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020

The farmers have been in complete disagreement with the bills owning to the understanding that the bills will end MSP. It means they will be stripped from whatever guaranteed amount they were receiving against their crops. The demands from farmers include the abolition of these three laws & sustainability for MSP.

    A ray of hope:

One cannot solve the problems faced by farmers in a fortnight. The road to making farmers capable is extensive. Amidst the rising farmer issues, many companies have come forward to the aid of farmers. One such company is Kiwi Kisan Window. A health & wellness startup based in Dehradun, Kiwi Kisan Window deals in organic & healthy conscious food. The startup was initiated in 2017 by social entrepreneurs Abhinav Ahluwalia & Nupur Agarwal to aid farmers in their agricultural pursuits. Kiwi works at the grassroots level with marginalized farmers from across the country. They acquire the products from the farmers & package them in their warehouse. From there, the products are distributed throughout the country. Kiwi acts as a direct window between the farmers & consumers. This elimination of middlemen provides farmers with fair trade opportunities.

In the span of 4 years, Kiwi has gotten approximately 10,000 farmers onboard. Along with it, the startup has also generated a stable income for about 10,000 farmers. The company has helped farmers indulge in organic farming by familiarizing them with its technical know-how. Through the entirety of lockdowns imposed in 2020 due to covid-19, Kiwi mobilized the food produced by these farmers in order to save them from getting ruined due to weather conditions. Kiwi wishes to bring a ripple effect in the market through their initiative & encourage the consumers to support the farmers.

Our true independence lies in uplifting & walking shoulder to shoulder with everyone. The country is developing & moving forward every day; the farmers shouldn’t be exempt from this growth. If anything, the farmers should be at the forefront of the changing times.

When tillage begins, other arts follow. The farmers, therefore, are the founders of human civilization.” – Daniel Webster

  • Hearts at Work Foundation celebrated Independence Day with Tree Plantation

Surat, Aug 13: The Hearts at Work Foundation, led by Greenman Viral Desai, celebrated Independence Day by tree plantation at the Sultania Gymkhana in Rander. The tree planting event was specially attended by about a hundred employees of internationally renowned architect firm International Service Partners. They took guidance on tree planting from Greenman Viral Desai.

It may be mentioned that the young architects, as well as engineers of International Service Partners (ISP) of Surat, had specially invited Greenman Viral Desai to plant trees with Hearts at Work Foundation as part of the Independence Day celebrations. So that the youngest employees working in their organization get more awareness about tree plantations, and they also get a chance to interact with the environment.

The director of ISP, Hiren Patel, shares that,

“We were impressed with the Hearts at Work Foundation’s environmental work, so we wanted our entire team to plant trees with them. After this tree planting, our staff was very happy to care for and serve nature, and they got useful information about the environment from Viral Bhai. ‘

On the other hand, Greenman Viral Desai said, “It is a matter of great hope and joy for an environmentalist like me that more than 100 employees of a corporate organization like ISP come for vigorous tree planting under our Satyagraha Against Pollution Campaign. And this happens at a time when the youth are becoming alienated from nature and the environment.”

ISP’s Dhara Upadhyay said on this occasion, “On the one hand, some people have only been involved in fundraising and agenda activities in the name of NGO’s. At such time, Hearts at Work Foundation sets a unique benchmark and precedence as an organization from south Gujarat, which works for the environment and serves the country, despite several challenges.

It may be mentioned that during this tree planting program, Viral Desai shared many innovative and informative stories about the environment and tree plantation with the youth. As a result, many young architects and engineers were extremely excited and keen to volunteer as environmentalists in Viral Desai’s Foundation.

  • GoZapX, an e-mobility startup, is creating a visionary platform by connecting EV owners to charging stations and Battery Swap Stations

EV Charging startup GoZapX is on the way to making the day-by-day drive calm, solid, and efficient for metropolitan India through its e-mobility solutions.

New Delhi, August 13: It may be range anxiety; that dread of running out of battery is each electric vehicle user’s most exceedingly awful bad dream. All in all, why not address this by allowing each roadside shop to transform into a charging station?

Gurgaon-based startup GoZapX is tapping this opportunity by building a network of Charging Infrastructure, which would consist of a variety of charging stations such AC or DC and Slow/Fast/Moderate along with Battery Swap Stations. Hence, they would ensure that there is service available for everyone. Someone who doesn’t want to waste time in charging can easily swap their batteries within 2 minutes. Someone who can spend 15 to 45 minutes can use Fast charging stations, and someone who can wait for a couple of hours or need overnight charging can use GoZapX slow or moderate charging stations.

GoZapX is started by Vivek Kumar and Abhishek Kumar, an automobile expert, in the year 2021. Vivek is an IIT Delhi Alumni, a Digital Marketing and Product Expert.

As indicated by worldwide standards, there ought to be a public charging station for every ten electric vehicles. According to traditionalist development estimates (CAGR of 43.13%), by the end of 2022, there will be 5.3 million EVs which will require 5,30,000 public EV charging stations in India, out of which over 95% will be Type 2 AC charging stations.

The organization has fostered its product—GoZapX—remembering India’s conditions and framework. “GoZapX is a minimized, zero-maintenance, and IoT empowered charging station that can be introduced by small shops and people, empowering them to acquire an extra type of revenue. It is a conservative arrangement, so it very well may be introduced anyplace with a fundamental power association, in addition to the hosts need not make any infrastructural changes to set it up. GoZapX has installed around 100 charging stations within a couple of months of its inception, while there are only 1800 charging stations across India.

People aren’t buying vehicles since they have range anxiety and there is a lack of adequate charging infrastructure even though there are waivers on taxes, registration fees, and huge subsidies up to 2.5 lakhs being offered by different state governments and rising petrol prices are also a concern.

The main problem was there are a variety of Electric vehicles on the road and with different specifications and charging needs. Hence, one type of charging station won’t solve the problem. India has electric scooters, Electric Three wheelers, Electric Cars, Electric Buses, and Both their charging speed and needs would vary.

Vivek and Abhishek, the founder and Co-founder of GoZapX, say, “GoZapX provides products such as Smart Sockets (3.3 kW or 7.7 kW can be used at Homes or even at public places), AC Charging Stations (Fast, Slow and moderate with capacities of 3.3 kW, 7.7 kW, and 22 kW), and Customizable Battery Swap Stations (with ability to serve up to 100 customers in a single day).

The company GoZapX is inviting Investors and Business models to partner with them to become either Distributors, Investors, or Host. The company is open to appointing Distributors and Franchises across India. The company also wants to partner with Individual property owners who are willing to install charging stations at their premise and earn a recurring income with almost 300% ROI and an expected break-even in 4-6 months.

The company has also partnered with big E-commerce and Delivery/Logistics companies to offer their charging stations to their delivery fleet to increase the adoption rates. Vivek Kumar, Founder, GoZapX, says, Big Companies such as Zomato and Amazon have already stated that they will convert the majority of their delivery fleet into EVs.

    The USP:

GoZapX helps Individuals and Businesses such as Home/Property owners, Grocery/Kirana shops, Cafes/Restaurants, EV Dealerships & Showrooms, Petrol Pumps & In-Outs, Shopping Malls, Parking Lots, Residential Societies, and Offices can get charging stations installed at their premise and earn recurring income and also get additional footfall of customers with a new facility.

Vivek and Abhishek, the founder and Co-founder, says people are even eager to collaborate with us and become EV charging business visionaries. We are thinking of a model where exceptionally energetic and visionary people can collaborate with us and take an interest in extending this charger network for the future of EV portability in their particular spots. This could be an established model or something different out and out. We can complete multiple times more in case individuals will contribute with us and repeat what we are doing in their city or region.

The e-mobility area across the world is confronting an exemplary chicken and egg problem, and GoZapX smart charging network could be a potential solution. While development has been going on the facade of delivering electric two/three/four wheeler cars, most countries, including India, are stuck on making charging networks. GoZapX is addressing this problem with partners by boosting landowners to set up charging stations on their premises and make a vigorous EV charging foundation since their goal is to get more business partners to associate with them as Distributors, Franchise, or Host.
