    World University of Design Confers First-ever Srijan Shakti Awards to Six Women Designers

    Sonipat-based World University of Design has conferred the first-ever Srijan Shakti Awards to six women designers to honour their contributions to the creative domain. The winners include Shambhavi Gupta from Incedo, an engineering services company; Sonal Tuli from Within, a multi-disciplinary studio; Jaya Kanwar, Founder Director at Anhad and Senior Manager at Accenture; Preksha Baid, founder of design studio Y-walls Design; Aditi Vitasta Dhar, Founder Director at Vitasta lifestyle and accessory design; and Anushka Das, Founder, Kalpavriksh Design.

    Talking about the reasons for instituting India’s first-ever awards for women in design, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor, World University of Design, said: “We have instituted the Srijan Shakti Awards to honor and recognize women who have been practicing in the creative domain & doing pioneering work, whose story needs to be told for their inspiring potential. The six panelists explored the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities associated with gender-biased design practices, and discussed how the design industry can better address the needs of women in and through these practices.

    Said Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor, World University of Design “Women in design often encounter stereotypes and biases that undermine their skills and capabilities. There may be preconceived notions about the type of work women can excel in, leading to limited opportunities and recognition for them. Women are also often underrepresented in design professions, particularly in leadership roles. A gender wage gap persists in many industries, including design. Women designers may earn less than their male counterparts for similar roles. They may also face challenges in receiving the same level of recognition and acknowledgement for their work as their male counterparts. Design themes and concepts may sometimes reinforce traditional gender stereotypes. 

    WUD decided to raise this issue as gender sensitivity in a design university goes beyond mere recognition of gender diversity. It is crucial for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. It involves understanding, respecting, and accommodating the unique needs and perspectives of individuals across the gender spectrum. Challenging these stereotypes is crucial for promoting inclusivity.”

    Said Anthony Lopez, Founder and Chief Creative Director, Lopez Design: “The subject of women in design and creating inclusive spaces goes beyond the binaries. There is still much to be done, as we are just scratching the surface. It all starts with the family, where we must intervene to foster inclusivity from an early age.     Missed Veganuary? Here’s a second chance with Choose Chicken-Free Week

    The week-long campaign helps transition from chicken to meat-free while not compromising with taste or health.

    New Delhi (India), March 18:  More than 120,000 Indians signed up to try vegan in January, for better health, cleaner environment and the animals. They were supported by 140 Indian companies with new vegan menus, special offers and more. These included popular brands like Amazon Fresh, BigBasket, Nature’s Basket, Hilton Hotels and Hard Rock café- an indication of the ever-increasing popularity of plant-based eating.

    However, if you are one who loves your chicken dishes a bit too much, or struggle to think of an alternative protein source to fuel your fitness journey, Veganuary’s got your back. The global non-profit has launched the campaign Choose Chicken-Free Week from 18- 24 March. It will introduce you to healthy and alternate proteins to chicken, flavourful and satiating chicken-free dishes and bring in special offers from brands that offer meat-free alternatives.  

    In January alone, 40 new plant-based products were launched in the Indian market and 70 new meat-free dishes were added to restaurant menus. “Traditionally, Indians have consumed chaap and Kathal (jackfruit) as chicken alternatives. In the last few years, people’s interest in modern meat-free alternatives is indicative of a more plant-forward mindset to eating. Through this campaign, we want to show how you can leave chicken off your plate and create a healthier and sustainable lifestyle” says Prashanth Vishwanath, who heads Veganuary India.

    Together with supporting brands and popular recipe creators, the campaign focuses on plant-based alternatives to eggs and popular chicken dishes, vegan Ramadan dishes and vegan Easter treats.     India will no longer have to rely on imports with long lead time to meet the growing domestic demand of Extra High Voltage Cable Accessories (EHVCA)

    NewsXT Network, March 18: Raychem RPG, established in 1989, is a 50:50 joint venture between TE Connectivity, U.S.A., and RPG Enterprises, India. Raychem RPG is the imprint of a successful Indo-US bilateral relationship that has lasted for nearly four decades, the longest of its kind. 

    Raychem RPG has added another significant feather to its already decorated portfolio, by completing the very stringent, yearlong Pre-Qualification (PQ) test protocols, at Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) for its 245KV cable accessories manufactured in India. 

    CPRI has now approved its 245 KV, Extra High Voltage Cable Accessories (EHVCA) for usage in India for different projects, which are so far dependent on imports from Europe. This marks a significant milestone and achievement, catapulting Raychem RPG to unprecedented heights within the EHVCA product portfolio. 

    Raychem RPG is the only organisation among its peers to have received the PQ test report following a rigorous process that took over a year to complete. The bagging of the test report also bears testimony to Raychem RPG’s hitherto unheralded technical and technological prowess in the area and the success of the “Make in India” initiative. 

    This success will enhance the acceptability of Raychem RPG’s 245kV cable accessories not only in the Indian markets but also in SAARC countries, namely Bangladesh, Nepal, and Srilanka where many infrastructure projects are currently ongoing, and this will significantly help in better project management. The product, belonging to the EHVCA category, is produced in the JV’s Halol plant in Gujarat using world class material. Raychem RPG’s product will now receive widespread acceptance across the country. India will no longer have to rely on imports to meet the growing domestic demand, which was entirely met through imports.
