    Trademark battle for brick brand reaches court – Imitator stopped from using brand

    Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], February 12:  Two local manufacturers got it to a legal battle over use of the brand SB* for bricks. The original adopter and user of the brand served a legal notice through its advocate Nakul Sharedalal. The other party did not respond to the notice but curtailed its illegal use in the market. However, recently the party started using the brand SB+ and therefore the original adopter and user of the brand SB* again served a legal notice. However, as the illegal use didn’t stop, original adopter and user of the brand was constrained to file a trademark suit in the district court at Ahmedabad. Advocates Nakul Sharedalal & Kunjal Pandya appeared and argued for the original adopter and user of the brand and the Hon’ble court was prompt enough to restrain the illegal use of the brand SB+ by issuing an injunction order. Nakul Sharedalal said, “Such orders are the need of the hour to enable the owner of trademarks to enforce their rights freely and effectively.”

    Management Commentary:

    Commenting on the performance of Q3 FY24, Mr. Trimaan Chandock, Executive Director of BFIL stated:

    “We are happy to share our financial and business performance for Q3 FY24, we witnessed healthy revenue growth of 55.7% and revenue from operations stood at ₹1,470.75 Mn in Q3 FY24 compared to ₹893.92 Mn in Q3 FY23. This growth was led by our constant focus on client addition and continued demand for our products in the existing and new industries like railways, defense and heavy commercial vehicles. EBITDA grew by 72.1% and margins improved from 19.58% in Q3 FY23 to 22.24% in Q3 FY24 owing to increase in scale of operations and increased demand for heavier products which tend to yield better margins. PAT margins improved from 12.81% in Q3 FY23 to 17.31% in Q3 FY24.

    In terms of 9M performance, revenue from operations increased by 96.5% and stood at ₹3,986.85 Mn in 9M FY24 compared to ₹2,028.58 Mn in 9M FY23. EBITDA increased by 191.1% from ₹291.08 Mn in 9M FY23 to ₹847.36 Mn in 9M FY24, and margins improved to 21.25% from 14.35%. PAT increased by 176.2% and stood at ₹653.95 Mn in 9M FY24 compared to ₹236.74 Mn in 9M FY23, margins improved from 11.67% to 16.40% during the same period.

Currently the same is partly operational and is aiding us in achieving good revenue growth along with superior margins.

To seize these opportunities, we are leveraging our strong inhouse R&D capabilities to expand our product offerings and the testimony to same is depicted by our broad product range.     New Delhi (India), February 9: The Project was inaugurated in Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi, by Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Culture of India. A waste management initiative for a cleaner, greener community, was aligned to Swachh Bharat and UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Recycled waste to be used in creating street furniture that will be installed at various locations in NCR.

    HSBC India, in collaboration with The Social Lab (TSL) and United Way Mumbai (UWM), today announced the launch of “Swachh Sankalp” in the vibrant markets of Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi. The project focused on Waste Management and bringing about a behavioral change in the community, was inaugurated by Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Culture of India at the Block Community Center, Kotla Mubarakpur. The launch marked a pivotal step towards revolutionizing waste management in the area and reinforces HSBC India’s commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

    Also present at the launch were Shri Atul Bagai ( Country Head- UNEP), Shri Chand Kaushil (Head- UNOV), Smt. Aloka Majumdar (Managing Director, Global Head of Philanthropy & Head of Sustainability – HSBC India), Shri Adil Ghadiali (Senior Vice President – HSBC India), Shri Sahil Arora (CEO – TSL), Smt. Apoorva Sharma  (Director – TSL Foundation), Shri Adesh Gupta (Director, Advisory Board – TSL Foundation), Shri George Aikara (CEO – UWM), Shri Ajay Govale (Vice President, Community Impact – UWM), Smt.     Project Swachh Sankalp aims to raise awareness among citizens and shopkeepers about responsible waste management practices, with focus on recycling. The project focuses on two key aspects – collection of waste from households and shops with a dedicated mobile collection van and recycling it thereafter, and two, creating awareness amongst the community through various behavior change activities such as nukkad nataks, Swachhta Mela, Clean Mohalla competition, mobilization of green warriors from local communities etc.

    The waste collected through the project is recycled to create street furniture like benches and chairs that will be installed at prominent locations across the National Capital. This not only promotes sustainable practices but also fosters a circular economy that aligns with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    Appreciating the initiative, Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi said, “By launching ‘Swachh Sankalp’ in Kotla Mubarakpur today, we are not just managing plastic waste; we are also fostering a sense of responsibility and community well-being. This initiative, aligned with Swachh Bharat and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, demonstrates that every action, no matter how small, contributes to a cleaner, greener future. The ‘Swachh Sankalp’ project is not merely about plastic waste management; it is a holistic approach to transform behaviors and create a sustainable model for the future.
