Asia Africa Agri Alliance Launched at High-Level Diplomatic Roundtable in Gurugram

Ambassadors, policymakers and agribusiness leaders discuss pathways to strengthen Asia–Africa agricultural cooperation

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], March 20: India hosted a high-level diplomatic roundtable in Gurugram formally launched the Asia Africa Agri Alliance (AAAA) on 13 March 2026, a new institutional platform aimed at strengthening agricultural cooperation, trade, investment, and technology exchange between Asia and Africa.

The launch took place at The Leela Ambience Hotel, Gurugram, alongside the Maize & Millet Summit and Agri & BioWaste Conclave 2026, bringing together ambassadors, senior diplomats, policymakers, and agribusiness leaders from more than ten countries. The gathering marked one of the most prominent diplomatic–industry dialogues focused on agricultural collaboration between the two regions.

Asia and Africa together account for a significant share of global agricultural production, and bilateral agri-trade between the two regions already exceeds USD 90 billion annually. The newly formed Asia Africa Agri Alliance has been established as a Section 8 not-for-profit institution to create structured frameworks for trade partnerships, policy alignment, technology exchange and investment mobilisation across the agri-food value chain.

The roundtable was chaired by Atul Chaturvedi, Executive Chairman of Shree Renuka Sugars Limited, who highlighted the strategic importance of institutional collaboration between the two regions.

Speaking during the session, Atul Chaturvedi said that Asia and Africa possess complementary strengths that can significantly transform global agriculture. “Africa has vast agricultural potential and abundant arable land, while Asia has developed strong capabilities in processing, supply chains and agricultural technologies. Platforms such as the Asia Africa Agri Alliance can help convert this complementary strength into scalable partnerships that benefit farmers, industries and consumers across both regions,” he noted.

Senior officials and policy experts participating in the leadership roundtable included H.E Penny Rogers, UK Agriculture, Food and Drink attaché to India; H.E.Volker Klima Head of the Agriculture & Food Division, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany; H.E.Juan Manuel Velasco Counsellor, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food for India & Seychelles, Embassy of Spain; H.E.Livante Kardos Trade & Commercial Attaché, Embassy of Hungary; H.E.Ajay Singh, Senior Advisor to the Commercial Counsellor (Start-Ups, New Corporates Science, Technology & Innovation), Embassy of Austria; H.E.Shilpa Banga, Senior Advisor to the Commercial Counsellor – F&B, Creative Industries, Healthcare, Embassy of Austria; Siraj Hussain, former Secretary, Agriculture, Government of India; Dr. Ashok Dalwai, Chairman of the Karnataka Agriculture Price Commission and former CEO of the National Rainfed Area Authority; Ambassador Ashok Das, former Ambassador of India to Brazil; and Ananya Ray, former Member of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok Dalwai emphasised the growing importance of South–South cooperation in agriculture. “India’s engagement with African nations in agriculture has steadily expanded over the years. Platforms like the Asia Africa Agri Alliance can help deepen partnerships through knowledge exchange, technology collaboration and investment linkages that support sustainable agricultural growth,” he said.

The diplomatic roundtable also saw participation from representatives of several African and non-African diplomatic missions in India. Among the African representatives were officials from the embassies of Chad, Niger and Benin, while diplomats from countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Hungary and Austria also attended the event.

During the discussions, participants examined key challenges that have historically limited deeper agricultural cooperation between the two regions, including regulatory alignment, investment readiness, market access and technology deployment. Experts noted that coordinated institutional mechanisms could help unlock the significant potential in agricultural value chains, agri-processing and cross-border trade.

The Asia Africa Agri Alliance has been designed around five core pillars: trade and market access, technology and innovation transfer, investment and financing, policy and standards cooperation, and capacity building through knowledge exchange.

According to Kailash Singh, Convenor, Asia Africa Agri Alliance will also support initiatives such as Asia–Africa agri corridors, farm-to-market linkages, technology partnerships and investment facilitation platforms aimed at strengthening agricultural ecosystems across both continents.

Industry observers at the event said the launch of the alliance reflects a growing recognition of the importance of structured South–South collaboration in agriculture, particularly at a time when food security, climate resilience and sustainable supply chains have become key global priorities.

The diplomatic roundtable concluded with discussions on future partnerships, followed by networking interactions among policymakers, diplomats and industry stakeholders.

  • The Architect of Strategy: An Exclusive Interview with Executive General Manager Shalin Peter

The Architect of Strategy: An Exclusive Interview with Executive General Manager Shalin Peter

In this interview, Shalin Peter speaks about navigating a career that moves between the rigid frameworks of defense manufacturing and the fluid demands of global public relations. He reflects on building operational depth within regulated systems, translating technical expertise into strategy, and sustaining relevance across industries where credibility, precision, and execution define survival.

Q: You currently lead operations within a highly specialized sector, specifically a small arms manufacturing unit that also develops new products for defense purposes. Could you elucidate the foundational days of this organization?

Shalin Peter: The manufacturing company was officially launched in 2018. I have been closely associated with the enterprise since its early stages. Building a sustainable operational matrix in this specific industrial landscape necessitates a profound understanding of bureaucratic structures. A highly significant portion of my early and ongoing responsibilities involves liaisoning with the Central as well as State Government offices. This diplomatic navigation is particularly concentrated in the areas of firearms marking and physical security. One must possess strong interpersonal skills and communication to successfully manage these relationships.

Q: Before ascending to your current executive position, you navigated a fascinating dual mandate within the organization. You previously worked as the PR and Marketing Head and also as the Senior Technical manager. How do these seemingly disparate domains intersect, particularly when dealing with specialized tactical equipment?

Shalin Peter: The intersection lies in the rigorous application of empirical data and technical comprehension. In my technical capacity, I oversaw the small arms provided to specialized military personnel. This required intense collaboration for the transfer of technology in metallurgy and assault rifles directly with elite domestic defense units. To market these advancements, one must first deeply understand the metallurgical science underpinning them. My communication and feedback from highly specialized tactical commandos were well appreciated, proving that technical precision and clear communication are inextricably linked. My overarching objective has always been building strategy for growth and providing effective market solutions.

Q: Your ability to forge connections within the defense sector appears remarkably comprehensive. You operate as a critical communicative conduit between manufacturers and the end-users.

Shalin Peter: Precisely. A core component of my mandate is networking between defence officials and our enterprise for small arms. This encompassing portfolio includes service pistols, air guns for sports and assault rifles, alongside long range artillery. This networking is not confined to domestic borders; I have successfully facilitated alliances for sales with security forces in Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia. Furthermore, I proactively initiated requests from abroad for a research grant dedicated to long range weaponry. Operating on this global scale requires an unwavering commitment to quality, which is why a major role of mine is to ensure that products adhere to stringent quality and safety measures.

Q: Staying aligned with global regulations must be a monumental task in the arms sector.

Shalin Peter: It is an absolute imperative. To maintain comprehensive situational awareness of international regulatory frameworks, I have attended various implementation and effectiveness of small arms control programmes. Additionally, to maintain our market visibility, I have consistently participated in Defence expos organized all over the country.

Q: Let us pivot to your extensive career as a PR and Marketing Consultant. Your portfolio demonstrates an extraordinary capacity for cross-industry adaptation. How do you approach marketing for consumer-facing brands compared to defense contractors?

Shalin Peter: The core methodology remains surprisingly consistent. Success relies upon providing extensive research and insights about the market, consumer, competition, and brand position. For instance, I orchestrated initial outdoor promotional campaigns for a major telecommunications provider by providing media solutions for high organic reach after a market research. In the interactive entertainment sector, I managed event coordination for major gaming and entertainment exhibitions, including initiatives for a global video gaming federation and a major interactive software developer. Through these efforts, I generated substantial brand awareness for prominent gaming communities with corporates.

Q: You possess a distinct talent for large-scale experiential orchestration and infrastructure inauguration. Could you elaborate on your experience in that arena?

Shalin Peter: Cultivating strong media connections, and planning campaigns and strategies to promote business is fundamental to experiential marketing. I created and curated events for the launch of a major retail and lifestyle mall. Furthermore, I engaged in complex negotiations, liaison and vendor management for a large-scale recreational village property. On a macro-civic level, I handled liaison with the Central Government and multiple State Governments to facilitate major urban beautification for a media analytics and design firm. I also organized the launch of a prominent sports club.

Q: The luxury, fashion, and high-profile entertainment sectors are notoriously demanding. How have you applied your strategic insights within these domains?

Shalin Peter: The ability to prioritise and plan effectively is paramount when navigating the complexities of luxury and celebrity management. I have organized vendor management and client liaison fashion shows, notably a major exhibition in collaboration with a premier German automobile manufacturer and a prominent regional motor group. In the entertainment sphere, I have executed celebrity hospitality and management for large-scale music festivals and handled the planning and strategizing for major celebrity concerts. I also managed a publicity campaign for a major hospitality group. This included liaison with luxury suites for celebrities via major domestic film production studios and entertainment conglomerates.

Q: You have also influenced the technology hardware and publishing sectors.

Shalin Peter: Yes, solving marketing challenges and creating effective marketing solutions translates across all mediums. I conducted brand awareness and branding placement strategies for major computer peripherals partners. I also managed branding coordination and management for crowd awareness events with a leading graphical processing unit manufacturer. In publishing, I executed the planning and strategic brand placement and advertising for brand awareness for a high-end lifestyle and luxury publication.

Q: Today, your professional footprint is vast. You maintain your executive role while simultaneously expanding your consultancy across multiple continents.

Shalin Peter: Currently, I function as a PR and Marketing Consultant operating across India, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, and Europe. The diversity of the work is deeply fulfilling. Beyond consultancy, I am the Founder & Promoter of a digital magazine & events entity. My commitment to operational excellence has also allowed me to serve as an official vendor for a monolithic domestic entertainment corporation and an ultra-luxury British automotive manufacturer. Whether navigating government bureaus or global brand launches, meticulous research and strategic networking remain the cornerstones of my professional architecture.

  • Ryan Pinto on Building Good Human Beings: Why Value-Based Education Matters in Today’s World

Ryan Pinto on Building Good Human Beings: Why Value-Based Education Matters in Today’s World

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 19: In today’s fast-changing world, education is often measured by marks, rankings, and university placements. While academic excellence certainly opens doors, I strongly believe that the true purpose of education goes far beyond report cards. It is about shaping character, nurturing empathy, and preparing young individuals not just for careers, but for life.

“In a world driven by competition and constant change, knowledge alone is not enough. It is integrity, empathy, resilience, and a strong moral compass that truly prepare a child for life. At Ryan International, we believe education must shape character first, because values guide decisions long after textbooks are closed.”

At the Ryan Group of Institutions, our philosophy has always been clear: we must build good human beings before we build successful professionals. Knowledge evolves, industries transform, and technology advances at an unprecedented pace. Yet integrity, resilience, compassion, and respect remain timeless qualities that define lasting success.

Value-based education is not a separate subject in our schools it is embedded into the very culture of learning. From reflective morning assemblies to classroom discussions that encourage ethical thinking, we consistently reinforce the importance of moral clarity and responsible decision-making. However, values cannot remain theoretical. They must be experienced and practiced.

Our students actively engage in social outreach initiatives that connect them to real-world challenges. Across campuses, they organize donation drives for underprivileged communities, visit old-age homes and orphanages, and participate in literacy and awareness campaigns. Environmental responsibility is deeply ingrained in our approach. Tree plantation drives, sustainability campaigns, and student-led environmental initiatives reflect our commitment to a greener future. Exposure connected to global environmental conversations, including platforms aligned with the Conference of the Parties (COP), helps students understand that sustainability is not optional it is a shared global responsibility.

Many of these initiatives have earned recognition and accolades at national and international levels. While we are proud of these achievements, what truly matters is the transformation we see in our students a deeper sense of empathy, gratitude, and accountability.

Leadership development is another pillar of our educational framework. Through structured Student Councils and peer mentorship systems, students learn responsibility early in life. Platforms such as the India International Model United Nations (INMUN) empower them to debate global issues, practice diplomacy, and think critically. Large-scale student-led events like the International Children’s Festival of Performing Arts (ICFPA) provide hands-on experience in coordination, collaboration, and execution.

Our commitment to global exposure further broadens perspectives. Learning opportunities associated with institutions such as NASA inspire innovation, scientific curiosity, and discipline. These experiences reinforce that leadership is not about authority, but about service and responsibility.

Sports, performing arts, and co-curricular activities complement academic rigor by building resilience, teamwork, and confidence. On the sports field, students learn perseverance. In the arts, they discover creativity and self-expression. Together, these experiences shape balanced individuals grounded in strong values.

Examinations may assess academic understanding, but life tests character. As educators, our responsibility is not merely to prepare children for competitive exams, but to prepare them to lead ethical, meaningful lives.

When knowledge is guided by integrity and empathy, it creates individuals who are not only successful, but significant. At Ryan International, we remain committed to this mission because when character leads, success follows with purpose.

  • CDSL–KPMG in India Report Calls for Data-Led Transformation of India’s Securities Market, Proposes ‘3C’ Framework

CDSL–KPMG in India Report Calls for Data-Led Transformation of India’s Securities Market, Proposes ‘3C’ Framework

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 19: Central Depository Services (India) Limited (“CDSL”), Asia’s first listed depository, in collaboration with KPMG in India, has released the third edition of its Reimagine Thought Leadership report titled “Reimagine: Securities Market through Data Synergy”, following its third annual Reimagine Symposium held earlier this year. The report proposes a Creation–Control–Culture (3C) framework to guide data-led transformation across India’s securities market ecosystem.

The report highlights that “data risk is market risk,” and outlines how a structured data governance approach can strengthen resilience, transparency, and innovation across India’s securities market ecosystem. It proposes a 3C framework that enables market institutions to build shared data infrastructure, embed robust governance and cyber safeguards, and foster responsible data practices across the ecosystem. The report also presents the concept of a central regulatory operating model within market institutions, helping align regulatory expectations, improve interoperability across market participants, and enable more effective risk management and investor protection in an increasingly data-driven market.

Shri. Nehal Vora, MD & CEO, CDSL, said: “Data synergy is the force that brings Creation, Control and Culture together – enabling innovation while strengthening trust. When data becomes intelligent and interoperable, it powers a market that is resilient by design and trust-enabled at its core. Such an ecosystem goes beyond facilitating transactions; it empowers the Atmanirbhar investor and supports India’s journey towards a truly Viksit Bharat.”

India’s securities market is witnessing rapid expansion in investor participation. While household participation is currently estimated at around 20%, leaving significant headroom for future growth compared with more mature markets such as the United States, the expanding investor base presents a strong opportunity to deepen financial inclusion and strengthen investor awareness across the country.

Further, the report highlights four key opportunity areas where data can transform the ecosystem: stronger price discovery and curated products, personalised investor experience at scale, improved risk intelligence and fraud prevention, and more agile supervision through Regulatory Technology (RegTech) and Supervisory Technology (SupTech).

Commenting on the report, Shri. Akhilesh Tuteja, Partner and National Leader, Clients & Markets, KPMG in India, said: “Human intelligence has driven modern economies; the next phase of growth will depend on how well we harness intelligent data. As this report suggests, data risk is market risk. Treating data as core market infrastructure is critical for India to sustain market leadership and investor confidence”

The proposed 3C framework outlines a structured path for building a trusted data ecosystem:

    • Creation celebrates India’s capacity to build shared utilities including market data dictionaries, machine-readable disclosures, secure API pipelines, and privacy-preserving simulation environments that unlock research and product innovation across the ecosystem.
    • Control strengthens the system with smart guardrails including privacy-by-design, standardized lineage, cyber resilience programs (including post-quantum readiness), and responsible AI governance (including the vision of an industry-wide AI model registry). These controls accelerate progress by making it sustainable and trusted.
    • Culture makes the transformation durable by tying incentives to data quality, explainability, responsiveness, and investor outcomes; and by scaling multilingual investor education that converts awareness into confident participation.

The report also draws on insights from the Reimagine: Securities Market through Data Synergy symposium, which was attended by Shri Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman, SEBI, as Chief Guest, and Shri Sandip Pradhan, Whole-Time Member, SEBI, and Shri Keki Mistry, Former Vice Chairman & CEO, HDFC, as Guests of Honour. The symposium brought together leaders from across the securities market, financial services, and technology ecosystem, with panel discussions exploring themes such as “Data’s Superpower – Driving Innovation at Scale,” “Data is Capital – Trust is the Currency,” and “Data as DNA – A Cultural Shift.”

As data becomes the backbone of financial markets, the report underscores the need for coordinated action across regulators, market infrastructure institutions, intermediaries and investors to build a resilient and trusted data ecosystem that can support India’s vision of a Viksit Bharat.
