Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 23: The Goa Guardians completed a remarkable comeback to outclass the Delhi Toofans 14–16, 11–15, 15–11, 16–13, 15–11 in the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad, on Sunday. Prince was named the Player of the Match as the Guardians climbed up to fourth on the table with 10 points.

After the thrilling win, Owner Mr Raju Chekuri said, “Goa Guardians is a great, resilient team. After going down two sets, winning three sets continuously shows their team’s bonding and strength.”

The opening set was an absolute nail-biter, with both teams exchanging points relentlessly. Jesus Chourio and Muhammed Jasim struck early for the Toofans, while Dushyant Singh’s super serve briefly handed the Guardians a slender lead. Jeffrey Menzel tried to close the set for Goa, but the Toofans’ power duo of Anu James and Chourio rose to the occasion to clinch the first set 16–14.

The Toofans maintained their tempo in the second set, with Carlos Berrios leading the charge from the outside. Despite Menzel’s sharp net play keeping the Guardians within striking distance, setter Saqlain Tariq’s accurate assists to Chourio and Berrios helped Delhi secure a confident 15–11 win, taking a 2–0 lead.

Goa mounted a strong response in the third, inspired by Nathaniel’s attacking precision and Chirag Yadav’s relentless serve pressure. Prince anchored the defence with a brilliant block as the Guardians finally rediscovered their rhythm to pull one back 15–11.

The fourth set saw Chourio and Berrios once again threaten to wrap up the match early for the Toofans, but Menzel’s fierce spikes and Prince’s dominance at the net ignited a spirited turnaround. Prince sealed the set 16–13 with a stunning super serve, forcing the contest into a decisive fifth set.

In the thrilling final set, both teams traded blows early before Goa’s Aravindan executed a clever setter dump, while Prince continued his heroics at the net. Anu James fought valiantly for the Toofans, but Chirag Yadav’s explosive super point spike sealed a memorable 3–2 victory for the Guardians.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 23:  The Hyderabad Black Hawks halted Bengaluru Torpedoes’ unbeaten march in the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia with a pulsating 3–2 victory at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Saturday. In a gripping contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Hawks prevailed 13–15, 15–10, 18–16, 14–16, 15–11. Libero Deepu Venugopal was named the Player of the Match. With this win, Hyderabad moved up to fifth in the points table, collecting 9 points from six matches.

Bengaluru captain Matthew West focused his early plays through Jalen Penrose, who tested the Hyderabad defence repeatedly. Jishnu and Mujeeb responded with crucial blocks, while Sahil’s thunderous super spike earned the Hawks a valuable super point, narrowing the deficit. However, Athul’s service error handed Bengaluru the opening set advantage.

Joel Benjamin soon found his attacking rhythm as Hyderabad regrouped. Sahil’s all-around brilliance kept the Hawks in contention, and Shikhar Singh’s disciplined defending strengthened the back line. A bold super serve from Hyderabad proved decisive when Niyas successfully blocked Penrose, sending the packed home crowd into raptures.

Preet Karan’s precise distribution ensured Hyderabad maintained momentum in the following set. Though Sahil’s wayward shot gave Bengaluru a super point, Deepu’s exceptional reflexes and defensive anticipation blunted Penrose’s attacks, helping the Hawks surge ahead.

Vitor Yudi Yamamoto’s powerful cross-court spikes added to the Hawks’ tally, though West’s clever serving earned the Torpedoes a crucial super point. Jishnu’s timely super block against Sahil pushed the clash into a decisive fifth set.

Yudi’s mix of power and artistry kept Hyderabad ahead in the final stretch. Shikhar marshalled a rock-solid two-man block that repeatedly denied Bengaluru breakthroughs. A costly service error from Sethu handed Hyderabad a key super point, sealing a memorable 3–2 victory for the hosts.

Nandhagopal was adjudged the Player of the Match. With this impressive triumph, Ahmedabad Defenders moved up to the second position in the points table with 12 points from 6 matches, while Mumbai slipped to third place.

Nandha began the match strongly for Ahmedabad, while setter Muthusamy Appavu orchestrated attacks from the middle, effectively utilising Abhinav’s offensive strengths. The Meteors tried to exploit small gaps in Zone 2, and Mathias Loftesnes managed to earn a super serve. Petter Ostvik blocked Angamuthu twice early on, but consistent service pressure from Dhruvil Shah kept Ahmedabad in the hunt. A daring super serve attempt worked in favour of Mumbai, allowing them to take the opening set.

The second set saw Battur Batsuuri spark Ahmedabad’s comeback, with Angamuthu rediscovering his rhythm and testing Mumbai’s defence relentlessly. Nandha’s powerful super spike secured a super point, bringing the contest level at one set apiece.

Sustained attacking pressure from Batsuuri and Angamuthu enabled Ahmedabad to seize control in the third set. Trailing behind, Mumbai introduced veteran blocker Karthik, whose super serve momentarily swung momentum back in their favour. Nikhil’s left-handed spikes added variety to Mumbai’s offence, but Ahmedabad held firm.

A brilliant service ace from Nandha restored Ahmedabad’s lead in a tense fourth set. The encounter reached its climax when Angamuthu executed a crucial block against Loftesnes, sealing a memorable 3–1 victory for the Defenders. The win not only handed Mumbai their first loss of the season but also reaffirmed Ahmedabad’s credentials as strong title contenders.

Sameer Chaudhary was adjudged the Player of the Match. With this emphatic win, the Blitz climbed into the top four with 9 points from 6 matches.

Tarun Gowda and Jerome Vinith provided a strong start for Chennai Blitz, while Jesus Chourio’s all-round play kept the Toofans competitive in the opening exchanges. Luiz Perotto found a breakthrough past Delhi’s defensive wall, as blocker Suraj Chaudhary’s smart work from the middle helped Chennai take an early advantage.

Delhi’s libero Anand impressed with his acrobatic saves, keeping his side in contention. However, setter Sameer maintained his sharp rhythm, rotating attacking options efficiently to keep the Toofans under pressure. The presence of Azizbek Kuchkorov added extra firepower to Chennai’s front line, helping the Blitz tighten their grip on the match.

Exploiting Delhi’s weakness in the middle zone, Sameer continued to set up Suraj for successful pipe attacks as the Blitz extended their lead. Jerome Vinith, with his precision over power, found narrow gaps in Delhi’s defence to pick up crucial points. A bold super point call worked perfectly for Chennai, and Tarun Gowda sealed the contest with a blistering super serve.

The CEO of Chennai Blitz, Kiran Kumar, expressed delight over the team’s performance and prospects this season. “Jerome is a brilliant athlete and will lead the team all the way to the championship,” said Hanimi Reddy, Co-Owner of Chennai Blitz.

The franchise’s decision to secure Jerome Vinith at the highest auction bid is turning out to be a masterstroke for the Blitz, who are yet to qualify for the playoffs or semi-finals in the Prime Volleyball League era after having lifted the Pro Volleyball League title in 2019.

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 23: The defending champions, Calicut Heroes, defeated the Kolkata Thunderbolts 15–10, 15–11, 15–12 in the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia – Season 4 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad, on Friday, to register their first win of the season. Mohan Ukkrapandian was named the Player of the Match.

Shameemudheen continued his impressive form for Calicut, producing crucial blocks against Ashwal Rai and attacking effectively from the middle zone. Sustained service pressure from Ashok Bishnoi helped Calicut gain an early advantage. Kolkata’s overseas star Matin Takavar responded with powerful spikes, but frequent service errors disrupted their rhythm and momentum.

Santhosh joined the offensive play for Calicut, allowing captain and setter Mohan Ukkrapandian to distribute the ball with precision and control. The pair of Vikas Maan and Shameem formed a solid blocking wall, making it difficult for Kolkata’s frontline hitters to penetrate.

As the match progressed, Calicut committed a few service errors, giving Kolkata a glimmer of hope. However, Pankaj Sharma’s cross-court spike sailed wide, enabling Calicut to take a 2–0 lead. Shameem continued to stand tall in defence, blocking fierce attacks from Rahul K. and maintaining Calicut’s dominance.

Despite accurate passing from reserve setter Jithin, the Thunderbolts were unable to capitalise on key attacking opportunities due to Calicut’s composed defence and sharp court positioning. Santhosh and Tharusha Chamath stayed consistent with their strikes as Calicut sealed a commanding 3–0 victory, bagging all three points.

The Kolkata Thunderbolts now hold on to slim playoff hopes, with two matches remaining — against Hyderabad and Delhi. “We are known for comebacks, and we will bounce back from this defeat as well,” said Chairman and Principal Owner, CA Pawan Kumar Patodia.

In this clash of champions, the result proved to be a significant morale booster for the reigning titleholders, Calicut Heroes, who have endured a tough season so far in Season 4. The win over the inaugural champions, Kolkata Thunderbolts, reignited their confidence and momentum. With one match left — the Kerala Derby against Kochi Blue Spikers — team owner Safeer PT expressed his joy, saying, “This win is for the fans and supporters of Calicut Heroes. We still have a fight left in us!”

Saqlain Tariq was named the Player of the Match.

Goa will now play Mumbai Meteors in the first semi-final on Friday, October 24th, 2025.

The game started with both teams attacking from the middle. Delhi’s Jesus Chourio made the first major dent. Ashwal Rai kept the pressure up for the Thunderbolts with strong spikes. A smart review call from coach Manoj Nair helped the Toofans win the first set.

Pankaj Sharma’s missile service put pressure on the Toofans’ defence. Ashwal kept up the pressure on Delhi’s libero Aljo Sabu. Matin Takavar made a super block on Chourio, and the Thunderbolts won the second set.

Aayush made two important blocks as Delhi regained composure. A risky super point for the Thunderbolts backfired with Carlos’ super spike. But Aayush’s overhit shot cost the Toofans a super point, and the Thunderbolts took the lead, winning the third set.

Losing two sets meant that Delhi were out of contention for a place in the semi-finals. But the result did little to deter Delhi skipper Saqlain Tariq from seeking a win. Abhishek Rajeev and Muhammed Jasim led their fightback. With a smart block from Jasim, Delhi pushed the game to the fifth set.

With Kolkata’s Matin off the court, Delhi began running the play from the middle, utilising both Jasim and Aayush. Matin’s return put pressure on the Toofans. But tremendous defending from libero Aljo helped the Toofans win a super point, and the Toofans scripted an unforgettable win, eliminating Kolkata.
