  • Interview with Luv Sinha, Co-Founder, House of Creativity

    Tell us about House of Creativity. How, when, and why did it happen?

    House of creativity was an idea that came to me a few years ago when I noticed that my sister has always loved to paint. My brother and I are passionate about photography, so I thought about coming up with a platform to assist talented artists to showcase their talent. There is so much talent in India; however, most of them never seem to find the right platform to showcase their talent, and that is how House of Creativity was born.

    What is the core philosophy of House of Creativity?

    The core philosophy of House of Creativity is to empower artists by allowing them to showcase their talent to the world. There are so many artists who are phenomenal at their work, but they don’t know how to reach out to a larger audience. Today with so much of social media and digital clutter, it has because easy as well as challenging, and hence we want to empower and help these artists reach out to a larger number of people.

    How does the House of Creativity choose the artists and their works to be on display on the website?

    We have an in-house team that curates the artists as they are primarily from the art world. We also have a method via which talented artists can submit their work, and I must admit that we have received a lot of entries. We cannot have everyone put up their work as there is a selection process that includes Sonakshi, Khush and myself. Having said that, just because we are not able to have everyone’s work on our website does not mean that they are any less talented. It just means that we are not able to connect with their work as per our personal assessment.

    Can you talk about the recent association with the BMC, the Mahim Wall Painting initiative, with how you partnered with Painter Shabbu?

    The Mahim beach wall art is receiving a lot of appreciation, and we were very happy about it. This was something that Mr. Kiran Dighavkar, Assistant Municipal Commissioner with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) of that area, got in touch with me, and we decided that we would like to do something around the beach area and make it stand out. We discussed a few ideas, and basis the brief, I found Shabbu Painter from a reference, and I contacted him. He came to Mumbai, and we brainstormed. Mr. Dighavkar himself had a few valuable inputs that he suggested we incorporate into the artwork. The message that we tried to convey was that the wall art is a reflection of Mumbai. Think of it as reflecting Mumbai or the Bandra Promenade that is reflected on this wall, along with showcasing the Mahim beach area. I am glad that it worked out well in terms of the final artwork.

    What prompted the three of you to start a business venture together, and that too in the middle of a pandemic? What was the thought process?

    We did not plan to start in the middle of a pandemic. In fact, our work had begun well before. When the pandemic hit, we could not put our work aside as we had to work to the best of our abilities and co-ordinate with our team members as it is an e-commerce website focused on art, we could continue to do our work without having to stop the process as it was digital work, which is why we did not have an issue, and the thought process of working together was that all three of us are creative in a different way and it was something that I wanted to do with my family. Also, all of us bring different strengths to the table. For example, Sonakshi, Kussh, and I have our own abilities or skillsets that I wanted to combine.

    How do you see the future of House of Creativity in the Post- Pandemic World?

    What I am hoping for is that we host exhibitions at places like an art gallery, exclusive events showing artwork to interest consumers so that they can see it Infront of their eyes. Because the experience that you get when seeing something Infront of your screen is very different when you see it in person. I also feel that there is an emotional connection when you see the artwork in person as opposed to a digital platform. That is what we are hoping for, along with sales and, most notably, helping our existing and upcoming artists.

    I am very optimistic, and while there are challenges, we will figure out a way to work around those challenges.

  • Sponge Iron from Magnetite – A Novel Process Developed In India

    New Delhi (India), October 12: With India eyeing record Steel exports in FY22, the Indian Steel Industry is quickly becoming hot property. Along with it, Sponge Iron, one of the essential raw materials used in steel productions, is bound to have a growing domestic demand. Accompanied by rising coal prices, there is tremendous room for technological and market development to adequately satisfy the expected demand.

    At such a stage, a novel process to produce high quality sponge iron that matches international standards has been developed by Subhanjan Mohanty, Founder of Involute Metal Powders. With 40 years of experience as a Chief Consultant in the Indian metallurgical industry, and numerous patents, he has pioneered the technological development of various ferrous and non-ferrous metal powders.

    Sponge Iron production usually employs the DRI Process, undertaking solid state reduction of hematite ores with equal proportions of coal. This is brought about by the use of a coal fired Rotary Kiln, with the environmental impact of the entire process putting Sponge Iron plants under ‘Red Category’ industries. These industries generally have a high pollution potential, alongside a risk of numerous health hazards. The use of Electrostatic Precipitators can subdue the environmental effect, although not to the required extent.

    Involute Metal Powders, in their latest technological development, have created a process that reduces the coal usage, subsequently reducing the environmental impact. This is done by using a tunnel kiln, instead of the usual rotary kiln, making it a one of its kind static bed process in India. The coal usage drops by up to 85% for each cycle, resulting in a smokeless, eco-friendly operation.

    The process also switches over the raw material from hematite, to magnetite, which contains much higher amount of pure iron at 72.4%. Magnetite ores comprise more than 30% of the India’s iron ore deposits, which are heavily underutilized. Offering the highest iron recovery, magnetite  sponge iron can be a revolutionary turn in the Indian metallurgical industry, shares Soumitra Mohanty, the executor of the success trials of the above project.

    India has been the largest producer of sponge iron globally, since 2003. Since 2014, India’s contribution to the sponge iron has crossed 25%. With this strong global performance, and the massive effect of the Steel Industry on the Indian and global economies, the powder metallurgical industry is gaining ground. Novel processes such as this one by Involute Metal Powders, will definitely continue to support and strengthen the industry.

    Jodhpur (Rajasthan) [India], October 12: Ace cricketer Yusuf Pathan inaugurated the 27th academy of the Cricket Academy of Pathans (CAP) at Jodhpur, in the presence of Mr. Harmeet Vasdev, Managing Director (CAP), at a press conference held at the academy ground located in Shikargarh area of Jodhpur. With technology-enabled, strong on-ground curriculum and a team of experts providing high level cricket coaching, this new CAP centre promises to fulfil the aspirations of budding cricketers in Jodhpur.

    Yusuf Pathan, Director, Cricket  Academy  of  Pathans,  said,  “We  invest  copious  time  and  energy interacting with students and their parents. With the launch of CAP in Jodhpur, we are expanding in Rajasthan and are looking to tap into the huge reserve of young cricket enthusiasts and give them world-class coaching infrastructure so that the city can start churning out district, state, national and International level players”. Talking about the successful training strategy of CAP, he added, “Through our world-class coaching, our students have started representing their states at the national level tournaments like Vinoo Mankad Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy. We have plans to open more academies across India which will assist the budding cricketers of the country to get trained in the right manner.”

    CAP is providing quality coaching to the young players across India and helping them to fulfil their dreams of playing at the highest level. In the recent past 70 students have already been selected for various district, state and national level matches. CAP hopes to continue this trend in Jodhpur also and produce some national and International level cricketers in the future.

    According to Mr. Harmeet Vasdev, Managing Director, CAP, “We plan to expand our operations to tier II and tier III cities to give an opportunity to all the budding cricketers who love the sport and need access to world-class coaching infrastructure. India has a massive pool of talent and most of it lies in these cities. We are excited about the prospect of utilizing the talent pool and produce cricketers from these cities. We are aiming to launch 19 more academies in the cities of Bhopal, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Srinagar, Itanagar, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Agra, Bijnor, Malihabad, Gulbarga, Berhampur and have pledged to invest INR 2.85 crores towards this goal. We hope to become the preferred academy for cricket coaching across the country and we are committed to it.”

    CAP uses state-of-the-art technology tools to help leverage the performances of all the students. Apart from the already in use PitchVision technology, a recent addition has been of CAP-Stance Beam, a smart cricket bat sensor which gives shot analysis in real time and instant 360-deree batting performance data analytics to players and coaches. With real-time collaboration with the coaches, this tool keeps track of the practice sessions, enabling the coaches in providing instant course correction. An in-house app, a tool developed recently, helps the management and coaches keep up-to-date with the daily activities.
