Burlington English & ScooNews Report suggests actionable Ideas from NEP and NCF

Report suggests “Scope for Failure” as a key component of building a healthy learning environment in Schools

Report Proposes 3 Ready-to-Use Integrated Project Toolkits for Classroom Implementation as NEP is being rolled out

New Delhi (India), August 14: A white paper, ‘Unlocking Success: Turning Policy and Frameworks into Real-World Action,’ was released by Burlington English and ScooNews at the Global Educators Fest 2023.

Released at the time of 3 years of NEP, this paper summarises the core ideas from the NEP and the NCFs and shares key learnings from deliberations held at the six editions of the New India Education Summit (NIES) – Edition 2.0.

Significantly, the report proposes Ready-to-Use Integrated Project Toolkits for K-12 Teachers, which can be immediately implemented in classrooms for the Foundational, Preparatory and Middle stages. These comprehensive toolkits are useful for educators seeking to bring alive the ideas of the NEP and the NCFs in real classroom practice. While these toolkits are customisable in schools, use local resources and do not require complex preparation; these focus on the ‘Scope of Failure’, which allows students to fail in their attempts and encourage them to retry. It is critical to create a healthy environment where failure is not ridiculed, thus, converting it into a learning opportunity.

Ratnesh Kumar Jha, CEO, Asia Pacific at Burlington Group of Companies, said: “This report, which draws views from Educators from across India, leads us through the vast expanse of India’s educational terrain, constructing a link between aspirations and tangible outcomes. This document stands as a testament to the essential synergy between educational methodologies and policy frameworks”. Mr Jha added, “The future of education hinges on our collective commitment to innovation and inclusivity. As we bridge the gap between policy and practice, we pave the way for a transformed educational landscape that empowers every learner to thrive.”

Ravi Santlani, Founder and CEO, Scoonews, said“Through this white paper, we have made a humble attempt to look at policy intervention from the eyes of educators and have tried to ease its percolation and implementation at the ground level.” He added, “In order to ‘Unlock Success, ‘ India requires a harmonious union of forward-thinking ideas and practical implementation of policy such as the NEP and NCF”

Educators & Education leaders from diverse corners of India converged to delve deep into a comprehensive exploration, encompassing pivotal pillars of education, including the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS) 2022, and the draft National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.

At the heart of the white paper lies an intricate tapestry woven from the core ideas of NEP and NCFs, interwoven with insights garnered from the enlightening conversations at NIES Edition 2.0.

    Key Learnings and Recommendations

The white paper underscores the imperative for systemic metamorphosis within the Indian education system. Embracing the vibrant tapestry of NEP 2020 and NCFs, it accentuates the need for collective dedication to realize their transformative goals. Leading educators who contributed to NIES Edition 2.0 furnished the paper with poignant recommendations:

  • Impact of NEP on the Foundation of Learning – discusses Pranav Gupta of Ashoka University

Impact of NEP on the Foundation of Learning – discusses Pranav Gupta of Ashoka University

New Delhi (India), August 11: In the ever-changing landscape of education, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has emerged as a fresh, transformative shift in India’s learning ecosystem. Aimed at empowering learners and nurturing holistic development, the policy intends to revamp the foundation of learning, inspiring young minds to soar to greater heights. Pranav GuptaAshoka University, Founder and a renowned educationist, believes that NEP 2020 is the catalyst needed to drive a paradigm shift in India’s education system. In his words, “The NEP 2020 has paved the way for a new era of learning, one that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for lifelong learning.”

One of the most significant aspects of NEP 2020 is its focus on Early Childhood Care and Education. By acknowledging the importance of a child’s formative years from age 3 onwards, the policy seeks to lay a strong foundation for future learning endeavours and empower children to embrace curiosity and learn through play, setting the stage for a lifetime of learning.

Another key highlight of the policy is the promotion of multilingualism. Recognizing the linguistic diversity of India, it advocates for including regional languages in early education. This multilinguistic approach celebrates the richness of our cultural heritage, fostering a deeper connection between students and their roots. “The NEP, rooted in ‘Indianness’, will promote learning mother tongue and lay great emphasis on Indian languages and Indian knowledge systems,” highlights Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Apart from it, the policy introduces a revolutionary approach to assessments, advocating for a shift from rote memorization to competency-based learning. This student-centric evaluation system aims to assess a learner’s overall development and skills. Pranav Gupta Ashoka University Founder, passionately advocates this transformation, asserting, “NEP 2020 redefines success, measuring it by a student’s ability to apply knowledge in real-life situations, empowering them with essential skills beyond examinations.” Alongside that, thepolicy places a strong emphasis on integrating technology into the learning process. By leveraging digital tools and resources, the policy envisions a more interactive and immersive learning experience. Realising the potential of this integration, Founder of Ashoka University Pranav Gupta adds, “Incorporating technology enhances accessibility and inclusivity, enabling students from diverse backgrounds to engage with educational content on a global scale.”

The educational institutions have been restructuring the curriculum, promoting a flexible and multidisciplinary approach following the policy guidelines. By allowing students to choose subjects of their interest and fostering cross-disciplinary learning, it encourages learners to explore their passions. Additionally, the policy emphasizes the importance of vocational education, equipping students with practical skills and knowledge for employability. By bridging the gap between academia and industry, NEP 2020 envisions a future-ready workforce. The hands-on practical learning and research-oriented approach is the way to prepare them to thrive in a competitive global economy.

The National Education Policy 2020 has set the stage for a transformative era in India’s educational landscape. As the NEP celebrated its 3rd anniversary soon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event in New Delhi recently with the objective to discuss, deliberate, and share insights on various aspects of the policy and its implementation. “The world is looking at India as a nursery of new possibilities. The NEP aims to make India a hub of research and innovation. The policy has given equal importance to traditional knowledge systems and futuristic technology,” stated PM Modi.

India’s commitment to quality education and its progressive vision through the policy redefines the foundation of learning, empowering learners to unlock their full potential.

“We are passionate about making quality medical education accessible to all,” said Mr. Thanh, the veteran in product marketing and strategies at INVI Services Limited. “Through our A-Z solution, we strive to create a seamless experience for students who dream of pursuing their MBBS in Vietnam,” he added. The company’s founder, Mr. Rahul, who comes from a marketing background and has built strong ties in the India-Vietnam relationship, shares his inspiration behind starting the company. “I witnessed the rapid development of Vietnam’s education sector and recognized the increasing demand for medical education among Indian students. Therefore, we took the opportunity to bridge this gap and provide a platform for students to access top-notch medical education without breaking the bank,” he explained.

Studying abroad presents students with a myriad of hurdles that can be both financially and emotionally draining. Firstly, obtaining the necessary visa to study in a foreign country can be a bureaucratic nightmare, involving complex paperwork, long processing times, and potential rejections. Moreover, the burden of expensive tuition fees can strain students’ budgets, leading to financial stress and a need for part-time work that may interfere with academic commitments. In order to make students’ MBBS experience memorable and stress-free, the team at VTT University helps students with paperwork, travel arrangements, registration, bank account setting, insurance, and all other important components.

One of the key advantages for Indian students is the geographical proximity of Vietnam to India, making it a convenient and accessible destination for medical studies. With the rise in demand for medical professionals worldwide, students can avail themselves of the world-class education offered by Vietnam’s medical schools through INVI Services Limited. While explaining the advantages of this strategic geographical partnership, The Country Head for INVI Services, Ms Tanushree, said, “A large number of medical aspirants change direction every year due to lack of educational opportunity in India. As private colleges charge a fortune in the country, VTT University aims to tackle this challenge by presenting a better choice.”

INVI Services strives to work with more colleges in the country and expand into various education streams, becoming the bridge between India and Vietnam for facilitating education exchange. • Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) organizes “Counterfeit Awareness Workshop” in collaboration with Amity University

Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) organizes “Counterfeit Awareness Workshop” in collaboration with Amity University

New Delhi (India), August 7: On July 27, 023, JETRO, together with Japanese companies (Canon Singapore, Canon India, Bandai Namco India, and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India) and Amity University Uttar Pradesh, organized an insightful ‘Counterfeit Awareness Workshop’. JETRO is a government organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world.

The objective of this Workshop was to equip students with the essential know-how and create awareness about counterfeit products and piracy. In the past, anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy awareness-raising activities have been targeted at government officials such as customs officers and police officers, but this was the first time a workshop was held targeting general consumers, especially young students who will become a major consumer segment in the future.

Emphasizing upon the need to create awareness about counterfeit products, Mr. Hiroki Watanabe, Director IPR, JETRO, averred, “Trade Relations between India and Japan have become stronger and mutually more beneficial. If a consumer buys counterfeit products, not only he is impacted but the economy of the country is also negatively impacted since companies have to bear huge losses and suffer financially. We have the power to drive the change by being aware of fake products, thereby ensuring a safe and secure world for everyone.”

Highlighting the differentiating factors between fake and genuine products, Mr. Yosuke Sugata, Manager, Canon Singapore, stated, “Many counterfeits started their business on e-commerce market during Covid-19 pandemic and tracking counterfeiters on e-commerce is more difficult than physical shop. Therefore, one must watch out for the red flags including unusually low price, high discount rate, negative feedback from previous buyer and suspicious looking images.”

Mr. Shun Fujitsu, Coordinator Honda, asserted, “The color and font of the brand logo must be observed very carefully. When consumer buys fake products, the quality is compromised and he is cheated by the companies, even though he might be getting the product at a cheaper price.”

Mr. Pankaj Jha, Manager, Sales Department, Bandai Namco India Pvt. Ltd, said, “Bandai Namco participated in Mumbai Comic Con event and did market research for Japanese ANIME and character merchandise in India. We found that the stores were selling Japanese ANIME character counterfeit products of Bandai Namco. We identified our products by looking at the copy right label, perfect detailing, correct coloring, perfection in moulds and the overall feel of the material.”

Welcoming the guests on this occasion, Prof. Sunita Rattan, Head of Institution, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences, stated, “In northern India itself, more than 405 products are counterfeit products. “

During the workshop, the benefits of original products, the health and safety risks that counterfeit and pirated products pose to consumers, and how to distinguish between genuine and fake products was explained. The workshop also included an interactive session in which students were asked whether they would rather buy genuine or counterfeit products and were given a quiz to help them distinguish between genuine and counterfeit products, to which they responded positively about their opinions and views on counterfeit products.

While the police and customs authorities are taking measures against counterfeit and pirated products, understanding of intellectual property protection among general consumers is also essential to curb the spread of damage from counterfeit and pirated products.
