StreamKar Expanding Its Reach to Southern India

    Read Time:2 Minute, 32 Second

New Delhi (India), June 30: StreamKar has turned a new leaf when it comes to live streaming. This Indian-based application which has over 50 million downloads on the Google Play Store, has set its sights on streamers and consumers from South Indian states. A product of Common Vision Technologies, Mumbai, this start-up receives investments from the leading U.S.-based mobile internet company Tipping Points Technology Limited.

    StreamKar’s southern sojourn

At a time when the conversation is spinning around inclusivity in terms of region, culture, sexual orientation, and the like, StreamKar takes stock of the situation and expands its reach to south India. According to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report, it was revealed that the South Indian streaming and digital media market is growing at a fast pace of 25%. There is an intense fervour for the south Indian entertainment industry, as one can see from the way these movies are occupying spaces on OTT platforms. Some of the films have become pan-Indian, courtesy of the dubbing artists and subtitles, which have made this content reach Indian audiences globally.

    Lost in translation? Not anymore!

StreamKar is actively recruiting streamers from Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu to join the vast team of content creators. Its user-friendly interface supports all major Indian languages, which include Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Malayalam, and English, among others. This breaks the ice between influencers and the audience, as anyone can join the bandwagon and reach out to the target group which speaks that language. It also becomes easier to conduct a question-answer session or an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session as seamless conversations can occur without anything getting lost in translation.

Spatial and geographical crossover of pop-culture

Bringing different people with the same passion for streaming together and taking live streaming beyond geographical and linguistic borders is a tall order. StreamKar has lived up to it. One can say the same about the Korean cultural wave, famously known as Hallyu, which is making great strides in India. K-pop and K-dramas have penetrated Indian roots in particular and have created a worldwide buzz in general. While some people are still trying to get a hold of Hindi and English song lyrics, the Indian youth is grooving and singing along to foot-tapping numbers by K-pop bands. South Indian movies are entertainment on steroids, energising the audience with a feverish adrenaline rush. Creating a multi-lingual diaspora can only enhance StreamKar and make it a household name.

There can never be a dearth of talent. Tapping into the live streaming industry that pervades borders, it is only beneficial that streamers are discovered and identified to showcase their skills. People see merit in these influencers. This phenomenon would urge content creators to break out of their shell and aim big.

Streamkar: India-based Start-Up Helping the Youth Earn through Live Streaming

    Read Time:2 Minute, 52 Second

New Delhi (India), June 29: Technology has infiltrated the length and breadth of the country. However, the context of technology as a boon or bane solely depends on how one uses it. This stands especially true for millennials who have the world at their fingertips. Technological advancements have also ushered in the rise of video content. Being tech-savvy, informed, and updated can help them earn a decent livelihood from the comfort of their homes.

This is what the Indian-based live streaming application StreamKar delivers to its desi global fanbase. Envisioned by Common Vision Technologies, Mumbai, this start-up also receives investments from the leading U.S.-based mobile internet company Tipping Points Technology Limited.

Importance of live streaming in today’s day and age

Millennials are sitting on a goldmine of a resource that is live streaming. Live streaming is no longer exclusive to a particular cohort of individuals, like gamers. It is accessible to everyone and can be operated at anytime and anywhere. StreamKar provides a platform where people can host live streams and engage the audience in real-time through attractive features. Moreover, following the live stream, the marketing reigns are in the content creator’s hands. Streamers can upload their live streaming videos on social media platforms to gain traction.

     Your content, your way

The classic example is the pandemic that ushered in the ‘new normal’ of working from home. People are actively making the most out of this norm and creating content that sells. Live streaming is a profitable area to monetise your talent and skills. While individuals grow and come into their own, their profits can enable them to sustain themself. Although a corporate job is considered safe, the salary structure therein comes with a set of deductions. Whereas, in a standalone live streaming service, content creators and influencers earn rewards and 100% of what they earn without a third party having any share in it. People can build their fully-branded premium live streaming channel around their innovative content.

    A slice of mini stardom

Millennials live and breathe social media. Therefore, live streaming comes easily to them as all it takes is a device and a strong internet connection to go viral. If influencers frequently sell their products or demonstrate their talent, they will inspire more and more followers to join their tribe. While the youth is at the centre of StreamKar’s growing audience base, it also empowers women financially. Being financially independent is a different ballgame altogether. Therefore, StreamKar is a blessing in disguise, providing women with an agency to stand up for themselves and be financially liberated.

    Breaking the myth

Many people believe that working from home or creating videos does not entail hard work. On the contrary, streaming requires authenticity, originality, confidence, and the ability to keep your audience hooked to keep coming back to you. Some influencers toy with the idea of leaving their jobs to pursue live streaming as a full-time profession. This makes for a plausible idea wherein they can optimise their full potential while generating exponential revenue.

This is not about making money ‘the easy way’; instead, it is about putting in one’s all to make it big in the live streaming industry.

  • Marathi Films Have Great Content, Says Monalisa Bagal

Marathi Films Have Great Content, Says Monalisa Bagal

    Read Time:3 Minute, 26 Second

June 29: Marathi actress Monalisa Bagal, who is geared up for the release of her film, Bhirkit, spoke at length about Bollywood vs South films debate. The actress said there is no dearth of good content in Hindi and Marathi cinema, but we are not getting enough screens to release our films. She said, “Many amazing Hindi and Marathi films are being made, but they aren’t getting the desired screens in Mumbai and Maharashtra overall because South films are getting dubbed, and all the screens are given to them. Our dubbed films don’t get these many screens down South. When are the directors and writers supposed to wait for their content to be sent across to the audience?”

Speaking about her experience of not getting to watch a film in a theatre, Monalisa shared, “Last month, there was a brilliant historical film released in Marathi, but we did not get any shows because there was a South film released around the same time. Then how are Marathi films supposed to work? How will the collection be seen? Similarly, for Hindi films. The content is good, but the shows aren’t available, and I have experienced this for myself. Even on Hindi TV channels, a dubbed South film is often played. Aren’t Hindi films available? I am not saying that doesn’t release the dubbed films from the South but first give priority to the people of Maharashtra.”

Monalisa also cited how this change affects the careers of young artists like her. “I am at a young age where I am supposed to showcase my talent. How will I do that when there are no shows available? I can’t do that in my 40s. I want somebody from our generation to come forward like the late Balasaheb Thackerey Ji and fight to get theatres for Marathi films. Our career will get over like this. People from the South film industry are coming to Mumbai, Maharashtra, where people don’t have enough to eat, and they apply extra tax charges on the film tickets and earn massively. What about our people? Aren’t we making good content? Aren’t we investing money in making our film? The number of screens given to them is more, and even the rates of their tickets are 400-500 whereas our tickets are 200-300. It is our loss in this, and how do we expect our films to work? If the producer bears losses, how will he make a film again?”

Monalisa called this practice “unfair.” She said, “I am not saying don’t release their films. I am a huge fan of Kamal Hassan sir, Rajinikanth sir but give us also a chance. We are not getting enough screens, and this is injustice.”

Without mincing her words, Monalisa also commented on Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu’s comment that Bollywood can’t afford him. Taking a jibe at him, she said, “You have married a Bollywood actress, a Maharashtrian, and you are saying that Bollywood can’t afford you. I am speechless. If Bollywood can’t offer you, then don’t release your dubbed films here.”

Marathi film Bhirkit’s director, Anup Jagdale, also shared his concerns by adding, “We have a limited territory, and we are not getting screens in Maharashtra and Pune. The directors and filmmakers are facing a lot of problems. By the time we declare our film’s release date, the theatres are already booked by them, and we have to wait and adjust our calendar as per their schedule.”

“Bollywood actors are also not getting enough respect there, and I will only speak for my region,” concluded Monalisa. Talking about her film, Bhirkit was released on June 17, 2022.

  • Cinedubs to break language barrier in theatres, app launches with brand ambassador R. Madhavan’s Rocketry in India

Cinedubs to break language barrier in theatres, app launches with brand ambassador R. Madhavan’s Rocketry in India

    Read Time:3 Minute, 29 Second

New Delhi (India), June 28: Have you ever wished that you could watch a French, German, Korean or even a film in an unfamiliar Indian language, and understand what is happening on screen without having to read the subtitles? Well, R Madhavan is all set to break down this language barrier with Vineet Kashyap and Additya Kashyap’s ‘Cinedubs’ which is poised to revolutionize the movie-watching experience for cinegoers in India.

The innovative application will make it easier to watch the actor’s directorial debut, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, when it arrives in theatres in July. The upcoming biographical drama based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), will release in six languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Madhavan has been signed as the brand ambassador of Cinedubs.

‘Cinedubs’ will allow viewers across eight countries to enjoy a film in their preferred language. All they have to do is download the mobile app ‘Cinedubs’ from Google Play Store or Apple App Store, select the theatre of their choice and the show timing, choose the language they want to watch it in, and download the original soundtrack.

Once they are inside the theatre, as soon as they put on their headphones and hit the ‘Play’ button from the app, the soundtrack will automatically sync with the scene running on the screen and they can hear the dialogues in their own tongue even if it is playing in a different language. The facility will only be available inside the auditorium and will cease to play once outside so there is no threat of piracy for the filmmakers.

Talking about how ‘Cinedubs’ can make his film more accessible, brand ambassador R Madhavan reasons that while Rocketry will release in six languages, it won’t be available in all these languages in each city. “So, there was a good chance that residents from different cities, speaking different languages, might get deprived from watching the film. But now, thanks to ‘Cinedubs’, anyone in any part of the country will be able to enjoy the film in the language they prefer. I am very excited to be part of Cinedubs which will revolutionise the movie watching experience as it will break the language barrier even in cinemas.” he exults.

‘Cinedubs’ has been developed in-house by an Indian company, Dubswork Mobile Pvt. Ltd. It is the brainchild of technocrats Vineet Kashyap and Additya Kashyap. While Vineet has led software development and product management in companies like HCL, Newgen Software, Wirkle INC, Aricent (Altran) and Frog, Additya has almost three decades experience in the aviation, healthcare, information technology and ITES industries.

Vineet points out that ‘Cinedubs’ will not only bring world cinema closer to us, but given that the world’s largest film industry is working in so many different languages, Indian cinegoers can now also experience the beauty and versatility of regional cinema. “This, in turn, will significantly extend its pan-world coverage,” he asserts.

Additya adds that the film trade will also benefit hugely from their app with exhibitors able to draw different linguistic viewers into the same auditorium, thereby generating additional revenue from increased ticket sales and concessionaire.

“Also, our app can play in theatres anywhere in the world with the result that production houses can extend their reach without the increased cost of dubbing their films in multiple languages,” he informs.

The revolution starts with Rocketry, slated to release on July 1. The film has received an exhilarating reception at the screening in Cannes Film Festival this year in the presence of India’s I&B Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, Nambi Narayanan, composer A R Rahman and Madhavan, receiving a ten-minute standing ovation from the audience.

On a lighter note, Madhavan concludes, “Now, you have no excuse not to watch my film. ‘Cinedubs’ makes it possible to see it in any theatre and any show in your preferred language.”

The Immortals was launched by none other than the iconic singer Sonu Nigam. Sonu Nigam has also been a huge admirer of Ravindra Jain and when he was asked to do the launch, he was more than happy to do so.

Ritu Johri says, “It’s while working on my doctorate in Music that I became close to Dadu (Ravindra Jain) and got the opportunity of becoming a part of their family. He and his wife, Divya Jain, have played an important role in my life. I’ll always be indebted to them.”

The music video of ‘Bebasi De Gaya’ has been released on Ritu Johri official YouTube Channel. It features Ritu Johri singing the ghazal while Ravindra Jain’s wife Divya Jain remembers her deceased husband while going through old photographs. On this Ritu Johri states, “Divya Jain ji is a lovely person, just like her husband. She was sweet enough to feature in the music video. The theme of the music video was such that she couldn’t refuse the chance to feature in it. I am sure she must be overwhelmed going through the old photographs while filming the ghazal. A big Thank You to her for being a part of this special video!”

Ritu Johri is also confident that the lyrics of the ghazals, penned by Ravindra Jain, will touch the hearts of the listeners.

In 2010, Ritu Johri’s debut album named Begani was released by Vision Corporation with Ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali. Recently, she has released another ghazal album with versatile singer Roop Kumar Rathod, named Perception.
