New Delhi (India), April 19: The Home textile Exporters Welfare Association (HEWA) claimed in a statement that India’s annual textile export in the fiscal year 2023 is anticipated to reach $60 billion, with the government fully exempting imports of cotton from customs duties till September 30, 2022.

HEWA, an apex body of the home textile exporters and manufacturers said the exemption would benefit the entire textile value chain—yarn, fabric, garments, and made-ups—and provide relief to the consumers. The move will also ease the pressure on demand, and stability in raw cotton prices, and end the volatile situation persisting for the last six months, thereby helping the textile exporters achieve splendid growth in FY23.

India witnessed a significant rise in textile export to the tune of $43 billion in 2021-22 compared to $33 billion in 2020-21 following various policy initiatives such as the extension of RoSCTL, the introduction of the RoDTEP scheme, Technical Textile Mission, PLI Scheme, PM-MITRA, releasing of due and arrears by the government and the geo-economic shift post-pandemic, stated HEWA.

The textile exports in 2022 could have been much higher had there not been a sharp rise in the cotton prices from October 2021. The price of the Shanker 6 variety increased from Rs 59,000 per cotton candy of 365 kg to Rs 95,000 per candy till April-2022.

HEWA has urged the government to stop the uncontrolled exports of raw materials to nations such as China and Bangladesh, which disrupt the supply-demand cycle of raw materials in India. The government must remove raw material incentives to boost exports of value-added commodities and maintain employment equilibrium in the textile industry. Value addition and finished goods can generate ten times the number of job possibilities and more than twice the amount of revenue in exports.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 19: The Government has permitted duty free imports of cotton for the period April 14 – September 30, 2022 vide a notification issued on 13th April by the Ministry of Finance. Shri Manoj Patodia, Chairman of TEXPROCIL (The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council) thanked the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for giving a “Baisakhi” gift to the textile industry, as the measure will benefit the entire textile value chain namely yarns, fabrics, garments and made ups and provide relief to consumers.

He also thanked the Hon’ble Minister of Commerce, Industry, Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal for his untiring efforts to ensure that the Indian textile industry maintains its competitive edge in world markets. Shri Patodia hoped that going forward the prices of cotton which has reached unreasonable levels will stabilise and the textile industry will be able to increase its exports.

Along with the ‘Student of the Year’, other prestigious awards were also given. Miss K. Neha Sri, a student of the PGDM 2020-22 batch, was awarded the Shakuntala Devi Award. She received a gold medal and cheque of Rs. 11,000. Miss Soumya Aithal of the 2020-22 PGDM batch received the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Award with a gold medal and cheque of Rs 7,000.

Along with this, more than 48 Intellectual Capital Awards were given for teaching, non-teaching, and guest faculties. Janmitr Felicitates Shri Shital Tiwari, living 96 years Thailand veteran of Indian National Army (INA) – Primex News Network

New Delhi [India], April 19: Mr Shital Tiwari, aged 96 years and the only living veteran from Thailand of Indian National Army (INA, formed by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, currently on a 10 day visit to India, was honored in a felicitation program, organized by JanMitr, an initiative and concept for welfare and development of rural community with a view to make them employable and self-reliant entrepreneurs.

Mr Shital Tiwari’s father Mr Baiyanath Tiwari donated his land of over 20 acres in Chonubari Province of Thailand to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in 1943 for setting up INA Training Camp when he visited Thailand in his pursuit to raise INA and secure freedom for India. The entire family, Mr Shital Tiwari and his siblings and father were actively involved with Netaji in India’s freedom struggle from Thailand.

Currently Mr. Shitlal is the last man alive from Thailand INA. Mr. Shital is the last witness to this INA formation and the activities at the Thai INA camp from the start to the end. He is the live version of the living history. Much of the INA events in Thailand can be recited by him until this day. His mind and body are still sharp and healthy and it is but utmost important to gather all the information from him and listen to many stories first hand. Where else can one ever find this opportunity which relates deeply to the Indian freedom struggle?

The Program was chaired by Lt General M M Lakhera (Retd), PVSM, AVSM, VSM, former Governor of Puducherry, Mizoram and Andman and Nicobar and currently chairman of JanMitr Samudaay. The Program was also attended amongst others by Lt Gen AKS Chandele (Retd), PVSM, AVSM; Colonel T P Tyagi (Retd), Veer Chakra, President Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha: Mr Rajendra Pandey, a prominent business leader of Thailand whose forefathers were also associated with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose; and Major Sushil Goel(Retd), CMD of P C Training Institute Limited, an Institution in education, skills training and healthcare services and initiator of the concept of JanMitr.

Mr Rajendra Pandey, the business leader, spoke about many unsung and unknown heroes of the freedom struggle who were residing in Thailand and other countries and made sacrifices for India’s freedom and provided active support to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, when he visited Thailand and other East Asian countries in his pursuit to raise Indian National Army (INA) to fight for India’s freedom from British rule. He also shared some of the very rare photographs collected by him of Netaji’s visit to Thailand and his meetings with people in power to garner support for his struggle for India’s freedom.

Mr Shital Tiwari shared stories of self and his family’s association with Netaji and contribution made by his parents to the cause of India’s freedom.

The felicitation Program was followed by a musical program by legendary music composer Anand Ji of the Kalyan Ji Anand Ji fame, who specially came to honor Mr Shital Tiwari.
