    New Delhi [India], June 25: Valencia India Limited – a diversified business conglomerate with operations in India and overseas – is planning to raise upto Rs. 48.95 crore from its public issue. The public issue will open for subscription on June 26, 2025 and will close on June 30, 2025. Interactive Financial Service Ltd is the book running lead manager of the issue. Shares will be listed on BSE SME platform.

    The initial public offering of Rs. 48.95 crore is a combination of a fresh issue of 40.00 lakh equity shares aggregating to Rs. 44.00 crores and an offer for sale of 4.50 lakh equity shares aggregating to Rs. 4.95 crores. The total issue involves 44.50 lakh equity shares for a face value of Rs. 10 each. Price band for the issue is Rs. 95 – Rs. 110 per share. Out of the issue proceeds, the company plans to use the funds for the development of 15 villas and a clubhouse, as well as for general corporate purposes. Minimum lot size for the application is 1,200 shares which translates into a minimum investment of Rs. 1,14,000 at lower price band of Rs 95 and Rs. 1,32,000 at the upper price band of Rs. 110 per share. The retail quota for the issue is not less than 63%, NII is not less than 27%, QIB is not more than 10%.

    Telangana ICDS Smartphone Tender Sparks Transparency Concerns, OEMs Seek Re-Tendering

    Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 25: A smartphone procurement tender issued by the Telangana Women and Child Welfare Department (WDCW) under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) has raised concerns among industry stakeholders over its structure and compliance with procurement norms.

    The tender, published on June 12 with a submission deadline of June 23, calls for the supply of 38,117 Samsung A06 (4+64) smartphones intended for Anganwadi supervisors across the state. The inclusion of a specific brand and model in the tender has prompted questions from industry participants regarding adherence to public procurement guidelines, which generally recommend the use of non-restrictive technical specifications to ensure open and competitive bidding.

    According to publicly available information, some mobile device manufacturers with experience in government supply contracts, including Indian-origin brands, have submitted formal representations to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) expressing concern about the criteria set in the tender.

    In addition, product testing permissions were reportedly extended to devices from brands not currently listed on the GeM portal. A routine verification shows that Nokia is currently not available on GeM listings. Motorola, while included in the testing scope, is under scrutiny by stakeholders for its foreign ownership structure, which could potentially invoke provisions of India’s land border procurement policy.

    Documents related to pre-bid activities, including the presence or absence of a pre-bid meeting, are not publicly available at the time of reporting. Similarly, alternate documentation practices, such as the use of an unsigned Minutes of Meeting (MoM) instead of a Purchase Approval Certificate (PAC), could not be independently confirmed from open records.

    Industry voices have called for a review of the tender process to ensure alignment with fair procurement standards and inclusivity for qualified Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). “It is essential that all public tenders promote a level playing field, ensuring access to all eligible and capable suppliers,” said a representative of an OEM, speaking on condition of anonymity.

    As of now, the WDCW Department has not issued an official statement regarding the concerns raised.

    While India’s domestic tourism scene is bustling, international tourism hasn’t quite bounced back as strongly as many had hoped. Even as the world’s overall tourism numbers recover, India is still seeing fewer foreign visitors compared to the pre-pandemic era. In 2023, for example, only about 9.5 million foreign tourists arrived in India—a figure that remains over 10% below the nearly 11 million recorded in 2019, according to Skift. The trend hasn’t improved much by mid-2024, with just 4.8 million foreign arrivals in the first six months.

    When Dr. Jyotsna Suri speaks about the future of India’s tourism sector, one thing stands out above all: the urgent need to put India on the global map through bold and consistent marketing.

    She points out that, despite the country’s incredible diversity and rich experiences, India simply isn’t being marketed as aggressively as it should be. “Right now, we are not being marketed at all,” she says, stressing that a well-funded, ministry-led campaign could quickly change the narrative and attract a wider range of international visitors.

    While progress on infrastructure upgrades is encouraging, Dr. Suri admits it will take time before India’s facilities truly match world-class standards; still, she is heartened by the direction things are moving and the ongoing investments being made.

    She also highlights the importance of developing new destinations, not just for drawing in foreign tourists but for giving domestic travellers fresh places to explore. Many existing spots remain underutilised, and new attractions could help spread out the crowds and ease pressure on popular sites.

    When it comes to competing with neighbours like Thailand and Indonesia, Dr. Jyotsna Suri acknowledges that India might be a bit pricier in some areas, especially with GST factored in, but she firmly believes the country delivers outstanding value for money—something that discerning travellers appreciate. A shift is happening, where the focus is moving from attracting backpackers to courting higher-spending, quality tourists who are looking for unique and enriching experiences.

    The Indian government has launched several key initiatives to attract more international tourists, focusing on developing 50 major destinations to enhance infrastructure and provide a better visitor experience. Visa reforms, including streamlined e-visa processes and fee waivers for select travellers, are making it easier for tourists to visit India.

    Additionally, programs promoting spiritual, heritage, and medical tourism highlight the country’s unique cultural and wellness offerings. Efforts to improve regional connectivity through schemes like UDAN are opening up access to lesser-known destinations, making India more accessible overall.

    Dr. Jyotsna Suri praised the combined efforts of the central and state governments, including leadership from the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Chief Ministers, for their commitment to revitalising tourism. “It will happen soon.
