Celebrate the Indian Republic by trying vegan this January

It is a great way to uphold the spirit of the Constitution

New Delhi (India), January 27: The Constitution of India is at the centre of how the world’s largest democracy conducts itself. The rights, freedoms and duties that citizens of India enjoy are a result of this landmark document which was adopted this day in 1950.

The Republic day- a celebration of our Constitution- coincides with Veganuary- the global movement to try vegan in January. It is the perfect occasion to acknowledge the provisions in our Constitution for the protection of animals and nature.

The founders of India were foresighted enough to see the connection between human wellbeing and that of the environment and the animals. The Indian Constitution has several provisions for the protection of animals, improvement of our environment and preventing its degradation.

Increasingly, people are choosing to try vegan to be kind to animals. In 2022, 44 percent of Veganuary participants did so as they felt empathetic towards animals. There is a growing consciousness among Indians about basic rights and freedoms being denied to farmed animals.

These animals are no different from humans in thinking, feeling and caring for their families. However, in complete violation of their inherent right to live a dignified life, they are subject to lifelong suffering in factory farms. Intensive farming practices are also the leading causes of pollution, land degradation, loss of natural habitats and climate change.

Article 51A(g) of the Indian Constitution states ‘It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife, and to have compassion for living creatures’

Veganuary Ambassador Soundarya Sharma says ‘I am vegan because I want to live a compassionate life. Being in the BigBoss house, I saw what it is to feel the lack of freedom, to be away from family and friends, and to be confined. While I did it by choice knowing that it would end, millions of animals are forcefully subjected to much worse conditions for their entire lifetimes. With so many great alternatives to milk, cheese, curds and meat, we don’t need to consume animal products. Even though it was challenging, I stuck to being vegan in the BigBoss house without compromising on taste or nutrition. Join me and try vegan, for the animals and the planet.’

According to a study, a vegan diet could be the single best way to reduce humanity’s impact on the planet. Raising animals for food takes up massive amounts of land, water, food and energy. Animal agriculture by-products pollute air and water. From the reduction in greenhouse gases to conservation of water, a vegan diet is good for the planet.

Article 48A of the Constitution states ‘The State shall endeavour to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wildlife of the country.’

Articles 39, 47 and 48A cast a duty on the State to secure the health of the people, improve public health and protect and improve the environment.

Veganuary India head Prashanth Vishwanath says ‘Animal agriculture contributes more than 60% of all food-system greenhouse gasses. The periodic outbreaks of bird flu in many parts of the world are a constant public health concern, in addition to the tragic culling of thousands of birds. The global trend of antibiotic resistance in humans is a direct result of industrial animal agriculture. While we look at different ways to improve the environment, public health and living with compassion- all prescribed in the Indian constitution- nothing compares to the impact we make when we eat vegan.’

This year, Veganuary has added new resources to support people like a new Indian starter kit, a podcast and youtube series- all for free. So this Republic day, make a conscious decision to uphold the spirit of the Constitution. It can be a small step of trying vegan for a month with Veganuary.

  • Suffering is an extraordinary teacher,The true inspirational life lived by Sunaina Sindhwani”

Suffering is an extraordinary teacher,The true inspirational life lived by Sunaina Sindhwani”

New Delhi (India), January 27: THE PURPLE COUCH

“I couldn’t find my place in a society that only accepts conventional love. Am I going to be accepted as I am? “, this is not just a question but a situation of life and death for Tina who is really asking this out. Tina is the lead character of the novel ” THE PURPLE COUCH ” penned by a brilliant writer Mrs. Sunaina Sindhwani. This novel is written on the real-life experiences of this BISEXUAL woman Tina, whose heart-trenching story inspired Mrs. Sunaina to write for the LGBTQ COMMUNITY. Although the publication of a novel on such sensitive issues was one of the biggest tasks, Mrs. Sindhwani fought for it successfully, and finally ” The Holistic Publishing house” which also hosts “The Great India Book Tour, TGIBT”  published it in December 2022. A grand launch of the same novel “THE PURPLE COUCH” was done by Mr. Ram Dass Athawale, Minister of Justice and Women Empowerment, at a grand premium award show “MSME Star Awards,2022″, at Hotel Holiday Inn, Delhi. Sunaina was awarded as the best Social Author for her unmatchable contribution to society through her work of literature.

Later on, the Purple Couch got featured by many news channels; Aaj Tak, News 24/7, Bharat News, MH 1, News 18, News24, and many YOUTUBE channels as well. This novel loudly speaks about the fear of the LGBTQ community to get acceptance by our society. Through this novel, Sunaina has tried to put forward the pain and agony of a bisexual woman and dedicated this novel to LGBTQS. She shows how this community fight for even basic human rights throughout their lives. Although Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) have gained little tolerance and acceptance in India over the past few years, most of them are still remaining in the closet, fearing discrimination from their families, who might see homosexuality as shameful. Except for a few big cities, discrimination is widely prevalent in rural areas, where LGBT people often face high rejection from their families and are forced into opposite-sex marriages.

    EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Sunaina Sindhwani was born in a middle-class family in Rohtak, Haryana. She has been very ambitious and hard-working since her childhood which was the reason why she was a topper in her academics. Along with academics, she excelled in sports and other extra-curricular activities too. Sunaina has a passion for singing and she has performed in various State Level Singing competitions too.

After her graduation from the Govt College of Girls, she received a Gold Medal for her best academic performance all over the state of Haryana. Her phenomenal journey of academics landed her at Chandigarh Home Science College, where she bagged the only seat available in the field of Nutrition in the entire state. She passed her Masters in Food and Nutrition and then joined PGIMER, Chandigarh as a Diet Consultant.

However, not everything went smoothly for her. She experienced a major mishap in her life, which caused her to suffer a mental breakdown and brain trauma. This led to her seeking treatment in Canada for 3 years, during which she was bedridden. The situation became so dire that she suffered from a small memory loss and was unable to recognize her children and husband. But her family supported her throughout this difficult time and acted as a strong pillar for her. Due to staying at home for 3 years, she lost her confidence. But gradually, she began to recover. Unfortunately, she received another devastating piece of news, that her close friend, Sakshi had committed suicide in Delhi. So, she returned to India in 2017.

    INSPIRATION FOR HER DEBUT BOOK

A close friend of Sunaina, Sakshi, had committed suicide and when she talked to her friend’s husband, he gave her a diary that was maintained by the demised friend herself. He informed her that she committed suicide due to the exploitation taking place in the work culture.

He pleaded with her to write about it and save other women facing the same issues. Although it was very hard for Sunaina to write at this time as she was still recovering herself, she didn’t want to let the topic remain untouched and unspoken. In 2017, Sunaina wrote her first book based on the real experience of her friend, Sakshi as mentioned in her diary and titled it ” I BREATHE LAST FOR YOU “. The originality of this book shook the readers and they could feel the pain through each word of this novel. She received many accolades from authors and poets from Canada and UK. She also won Glorious India Award 2022 as the debut author in the Romance category. This is how her writing career started. She also got her degree as a clinical skin specialist and took on writing online assignments. Later she was also appointed as a content writer at the Times of Canada, where she worked for magnificent 5 years. She also participated in the Mrs. Punjab Pride Of Nation Contest in 2017. It was the time when Sunaina was doing every possible thing to get back her strength and positive attitude after beating up three long and dark years of depression. She claimed back her power in this contest and won the title of ” Mrs. Catwalk “. A brilliant writer with a magnetic personality Mrs. Sunaina is a perfect example of beauty with a brain.

    MESSAGE TO READERS

While Sunaina Sindhwani considers writing as her power, she also requests people to go through these books in order to understand the pain of others. While talking about her book “The purple couch”, she pointed out how being different is not a problem but being treated differently is the problem. ” Not just the individual needs to accept themselves, but family and society need to change their mindset and accept them fully as a dignified human, no less no more.” Sunaina Sindhwani strongly believes in helping and serving our society in the best possible ways. She says that Life is meant to be grateful and we have no right to judge someone else. We all are born with a purpose in our lives and we all should focus all our energies and efforts to fulfill that purpose.

In the end, Sunaina gives one strong message to everyone, ‘Be Grateful for what you have. Accept yourself the way you are. Everything starts with us and so is the change. Each Breath Counts and everyone has an equal right to live in whatever way they want to live.

  • Tribal Anuppur Shifting Gears For Socio-Economic Growth

Tribal Anuppur Shifting Gears For Socio-Economic Growth

    IGNTU

IGNTU VC Tripathi spearheading the revolution

New Delhi (India), January 27: This February, more than 100 farmers in the heartland of tribal India, besides the birthplace of the Narmada river in the Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, will harvest lemongrass, a non-indigenous sedge, in their maiden attempt towards realizing the socio-economic potential in the global map.

“Anuppur is on the brink of socio-economic revolution,” says Shriprakash Mani Tripathi, the Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) at Amarkantak, spearheading the revolution in the region.

The rocky terrain of Amarkantak in the Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh has been throbbing with energy, not just from the vibration of the mighty river but that of its natives, who have taken upon themselves to put the region known hitherto predominantly for the river, on the global economic map.

Anuppur district, mostly hilly and forested, is spread over roughly 1500 sq miles, about the size of Africa’s Cape Verde. Although rich in natural resources, the district somehow could not harness its true potential until the beginning of this decade. Today, however, the tribal region is abuzz with activities – horticulture, bakery, forestry, handicrafts – that have been remodelling the district towards nation-building. “Nation building would be incomplete if traditional grassroots knowledge and the people associated with that voluminous knowledge are not made part of the process. Merging that knowledge with modern innovative practices and technology would complete the process,” says Vice Chancellor Tripathi.

While the university is preparing its students for leadership roles in a multicultural world, its Vice Chancellor, Prof Tripathi, is the torchbearer of the mission to usher in sustainable socio-economic growth while preserving and enriching the cultural heritage and tradition of the region.

“I do not see myself as a mere administrator of a university. My fellow professors and I are shouldering the responsibility of nation-building by moulding these students and locals as pillars of socio-economic growth,” says Prof Tripathi, who aspires to make the region, touted as one of the most backward regions of India, a thriving economic centre of growth and knowledge.

In his endeavour to overhaul the socio-economic condition of the district, Prof Tripathi directed agriculturists, botanists, and horticulturists from the university to understand,  document, and research the aromatic and medicinal plants grown in the wild.

While the region is rich in herbs like Safed Musli, Kalmegh, Gudmar, and Gulbakawali is known to Baiga, Gond, Kukna, Kolam, Varli, Bhil, and other tribal communities, the team revealed that the district could become a potential hotbed for commercial cultivation of lemongrass, a sedge that brings high remuneration owing to its medicinal, aromatic and therapeutic values.

After ascertaining the prospects of commercial cultivation of lemongrass, Prof Tripathi invited the Lucknow-based Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) to stitch a tripartite agreement with the university and the Anuppur district administration.

The MoU signed in mid-2022 aims to promote the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants in the region by imparting training to tribal farmers. “In the first phase, over 500    farmers have been brought under lemon grass cultivation, which has great demand in the country. This has strengthened their economic condition and opened them up for new learnings. While the first phase will have lemongrass across 200 acres, its success will pave the way for future projects,” he says. Prof Tripathi is a man of the soil, talking at length about various crop species that he believes have the potential to bring commercial success to the region. “We have substantial cultivation of Kodo millet that is extremely beneficial for those with diabetes. The crop fetches Rs 200 a kilo in the Indian market. We are attempting to brand it and market it so that locals are encouraged to bring an increasing area under cultivation. Likewise, Amarkantak is renowned for its honey. We have been enabling farmers with bee farming and honey processing so that their remunerations improve manifold,” he says.

Today, the IGNTU promotes a Herbal Garden too. “To market the local herbs commercially, we are cultivating 57 medicinal and aromatic plants in the herbal garden so that tribals are encouraged to cultivate them. We do not want traditional wisdom and indigenous flora-fauna species to succumb to market pressures and hence, it is important that they continue to thrive with some hand-holding of best marketing practices,” says the academician who has become an agent of socio-economic revolution for the locals.

As for those who are unemployed, the livelihood business incubation centre of the IGNTU imparts training on the manufacturing of soya milk, paneer, and other bakery products, apart from holding sessions on the processing and packaging of honey, cornflakes, and mushrooms readily available in the vicinity.

Having penned 30 books to date, the academician who is known to document his experiences is currently scripting the facelift journey of India’s heartland.

Udhyam Learning Foundation’s announces ‘Prayaas’ to unlock the potential of India’s Youth Capital

An ecosystem event with practitioners and thought leaders from influential organisations who work towards enabling our youth to have a better life.

New Delhi (India), January 26: Towards unlocking the potential of India’s youth, Udhyam Learning Foundation (Udhyam) is organizing ‘Prayaas – Young Minds, New Possibilities’, an invite-only conference on Jan 31 in New Delhi. Prayaas aims to stimulate a cohesive understanding of the current issues that can be collectively solved, through strategic and action-oriented steps. The event is supported by – YuWaah and Amazon.

Change-makers from over 100 of India’s top organisations in this sector who share a deep commitment to India’s youth have already confirmed their presence at Prayaas – including Antarang Foundation, Avanti Fellows, Educate Girls, Harappa, J-PAL, Kaivalya, Labournet, Lend A Hand India, Magic Bus, Quest Alliance, Sattva, Shikshantar, Tech Mahindra Foundation and The Nudge Institute to name a few.

“India’s human capital is crucial for the country’s growth and development, and our youth are key to unlocking this potential. In 2020, India’s youth population between the ages of 15-24 was 250 million, and every year over one million Indians turn 18. This growing youth power is however challenged with a scarcity of opportunities and pathways for their future.

While many innovative and impactful initiatives are happening to change this situation, we now need to accelerate change at scale: impacting 20-30% of India’s youth, while the demographic dividend is with us” said Mekin Maheshwari, Founder, Udhyam Learning Foundation.

“The goal for Udhyam is to build a thriving and supportive ecosystem, where every individual feels empowered to define their own path. At Prayaas, the effort is to unite like-minded people who are deeply concerned about the lack of chances and pathways for India’s youth to realise their potential. At this event as well as thereafter, we will come together and reinterpret the issues relating to education, skilling and employment. Collectively we will endeavour to create opportunities for our young people and enable them towards a better future.” he added.

  • What is Lip Neutralization and how it can help save time every morning

What is Lip Neutralization and how it can help save time every morning

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 26: In the world of semi-permanent makeup, Lip treatments are becoming some of the most sought-after treatments for people around the world. This treatment is especially becoming popular with individuals with dark lip discoloration. Lip neutralization, sometimes referred to lip correction by some, is the process of neutralizing dark lip colors through a multi-step process leaving your lips with a natural bright color.

Darkening of the lips can often be the result of Hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is a common and typically harmless condition that occurs when areas of your skin become darker than the rest of your skin. This happens due to increased production of melanin, the pigment that produces color in your skin.  Melanin is a dark brown to black pigment occurring in the hair, skin, and iris of the eye in people and animals. It is responsible for tanning of skin exposed to sunlight. This skin discoloration caused by excess melanin can be due to numerous reasons such as skin trauma, sun exposure, medications nutrient related deficiencies, hormonal changes and even caused by some medications and numerous other medical conditions.

“Dark lip neutralization is a procedure that with multiple treatments will help us reach a desirable brighter lip color tone. This procedure is completed using the Fitzpatrick color scale to cancel out dark and/or blue toned colors. We use these multiple session to cancel out your dark coloring with the appropriate warm tones effectively cancelling out the unwanted pigmentation. Most procedures on average will need 2-3 sessions to achieve desired results of warm tone lips” said Raman Chohan, Co-owner, Victress Beauty Academy.

Lip neutralization will leave you with beautiful warm colored lips. For many clients this is a huge boost in confidence not having to hide behind lipsticks and being comfortable with a natural look. This procedure is also great for the modern woman who may be looking to save time in the mornings or not want the stress of reapplying lipstick multiple times during the day.
