OKRs are meant to help you focus on priorities, create alignment & commitment and provide an outcome mindset. So why do 83% not get it right the first time?

    More and more organisations worldwide are waking up to the power of OKRs (Objectives and Key Results). While OKRs first started with software companies, even brick-and-mortar organisations are looking at using OKRs today. On the surface, OKRs are extremely simple to understand. However, when it comes to implementing OKRs, it gets tricky.

    So why does a seemingly simple framework become so challenging to implement? Well, the answer lies in the fact that OKRs require the right ecosystem to flourish. A host of factors need to come together as a recipe for OKR Implementation to work within your organisation. And the difficult part is that this recipe is different for all organisations trying to use OKRs.

    Symptoms of Poor OKR Implementation

    So how do you know that your OKR Implementation is going astray? Some symptoms act as tell-tale signs before it’s too late for you to salvage your OKR Implementation program within your company.

    • Leadership Buy-in: You can be sure that your OKR Implementation program will take the wrong turn if your CEO/MD and the key leadership team are not fully bought into the program.
    • Poor Communication of Rationale: Another symptom often seen is the need for more focus on communicating the rationale and intent of the OKR Implementation program. Employees who don’t know why OKRs are being implemented cannot contribute accordingly.
    • OKR Ham: Getting excited about OKR Implementation is good. However, when teams are over-excited, you see more than 3 to 5 OKRs per cycle. These needs to improve the laser focus OKRs are meant to bring.
    • Poor Review Discipline: This is another oft-observed symptom of OKR Implementation going wrong. It’s easy to set OKRs; that’s 20% of the job. The real challenge lies in the OKR Implementation phase, where teams are required to check in weekly or fortnightly. When teams fail to meet as a discipline, the OKR Implementation process goes for a toss.
    • Breakdown in Progress Updates: Whether you use software or simple google sheets doesn’t matter. What matters is how often teams are updating progress during OKR Implementation. When your teams are not doing this on the go, you can be sure that you are not leveraging the power of transparency that OKRs are meant to provide.
    • Absence of Strategy Linkage: OKRs are not a replacement for your company’s strategy. They are a conduit to enable your strategy to yield results. When you see that the strategic intent is unclear, your OKR Implementation will be ‘vanilla’. This is another symptom that your OKR Implementation process will not give you the desired results you are looking for.
    • Poor Psychological Safety: This symptom is connected to organisational culture. When you notice that teams fail to stretch or report where they are failing, it creates a ‘good news’ culture within your organisation. This is a sign that your OKR Implementation will take a beating.

    To understand some of the causal factors that lead to failure in OKR implementation, OKR International undertook a study from 1st January 2022 to 15th December 2022 covering respondents from more than two dozen industries globally. Some of the findings from this study have produced insightful information crucial to OKR users worldwide.

    A few of the 23 questions asked to nearly 2,500 respondents have been listed below as a glimpse into the actual report.

    1. More than 50% have named ‘poor leadership’ as the most significant causal factor for OKRs to fail.
    2. Instead of using OKRs for top strategic priorities, approximately 40% used OKRs for Business as Usual (BAU) Goals.
    3. Nearly 50% said setting too many OKRs as goals were their biggest mistake.

    While these statistics are just glaring parts of the report, understanding the entire report will provide a holistic view of causal factors that act as levers for change. The 2022 OKRs State of the Industry Report provides valuable inputs to assist with goal-setting and implementation challenges.     Uttar Pradesh has played a key role in agriculture production with the highest grain, milk, and meat production, which are main commodities keeping food security in mind. Considering the facts, UP is a focused state for all Agri-value chain companies, right from input, farm mechanization, processors, exporters, and other allied service providers. However, because 92% of farmers in the state are small and marginal, and their average land holding is 30% lower than the national average, value chain companies find it difficult to engage with their last-mile customers or suppliers. And the gap is widening further.

    The AgriGation – FPO Leadership Summit and Exhibition was organized on National Farmers Day, December 23, 2022, at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The summit featured 2500 participants, including farmer-producer organizations representing 7 lakh farmers from 12000 villages across Uttar Pradesh, as well as a large number of corporates involved in the Agri Value Chain.

    To address farm sector challenges, the Indian government is promoting programs to collectivize smallholder farmers into legal entities such as farmer-producer organizations. Uttar Pradesh’s state government also focuses on farmer’s collectivization by forming 4000 new FPOs through a state government scheme and connecting them to various government departments. The move to set up more FPOs is seen as an attempt to boost farmers’ income and formalize the agriculture sector at large.

    As a pre-event, 25 sessions of 60 minutes in the form of Webinars were organized in 5 days from 13-18 December 2022, which saw the participation of around 1000 FPO representatives and a total of 40,000 farmers participated and through which around 500 MOUs were signed between FPO’s and Agri and consumer industries.

    The AgriGation 2022 was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh – Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji, where he also mentioned, “Aaj kheti kisani me lage hue hamare annadata kisan na kewal is kshetra me majbooti ke sath pradesh krishi vikas ko aage badhane Mein apna yogdan hai rahe hai. in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture – Shri Surya Pratap Shahi, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, Sugarcane Minister – Shri Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture for State – Shri Baldev Singh Aulakh, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture – Dr Devesh Chaturvedi, Uttar Pradesh State, and representatives of UP FPO.

    The event was organized with a vision to reach out to 0.7 million UP farmers by connecting 1000 collectives (FPOs), develop an alternate channel for last-mile delivery of products and services by partnering with FPOs, Connect & collaborate with governments & policymakers as the Hon’ble CM UP, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, GOI & top officials are attending the event.

    Two technical sessions were organized, one with Government representatives and another with Industries. Both sessions helped a lot of FPO representatives with their queries. The panel sessions included people from different Agricultural industries to discuss the opportunities in their respective sectors and government policies and solutions in these sectors.     Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 31: Mumbai Textile Merchants’ Mahajan (MTMM) has organized MTMM’s FABRIC FAIR -2 ON 9TH &10TH January 2023 with more than 200 stalls in AC German Hanger (Dome) at Hotel JW Marriot Lawn, Sahar Airport (T2), Andheri (E), Mumbai. This Fair will be inaugurated by the Textile Commissioner Smt. Roop Rashi.

    MTMMM’s FABRIC FAIR – 2 with more than 200 stalls, spread over 35,000 square feet, will be the Mumbai’s biggest Fabric Fair organized so far. It will display large collection of fabric for summer wear, ethnic wear, bridal wear, school uniform etc. It will also cater to demand for Ramzan Festival as Id is earlier this time.

    After tremendous success of earlier MTMM’s FABRIC FAIR organized by Mahajan during 29th & 30th June 2022 at Hotel Sahara Star, Mumbai, Mahajan has plans to organize such B2B fair every year.
