Tea Time announces industry-first partnership with Scrap Q for reusable cup initiative

    Read Time:2 Minute, 20 Second

It was a moment of pride and achievement for Tea Time as the team came together to announce their partnership with ScrapQ

New Delhi (India), June 6: Tea Time, India’s largest network of tea franchise outlets across India announced a collaboration with ScrapQ Hub — the leading and the largest scrap aggregator in India for recycling and reusing the cups.

The collaboration will help Tea Time work towards its sustainability goal of doubling the recycled content, the recyclability, and the reusability of its paper cup by 2022. This will support its move from a selection of plastic-lined paper cups with limited recyclability to single-substrate, clear plastic drink cups that more consumers will be able to recycle — an important pathway toward circularity.

“Our association with ScrapQ is the result of our will to recycle and reuse the cups disposed of. This is the first step in developing a global end-to-end solution that would allow cups around the world to be diverted from landfills and composted or given a second life as another cup, napkin, or even a chair – anything that can use recycled material,” said Arjun Ganesh.

“We would not only recycle and reuse the cups, but ScrapQ Hub would pay the Tea Time Outlets 10/- per kg for all the used tea cups. A completely win-win situation for us. It helps to create a circular economy as waste is reduced and resources are used more productively for longer and also helps to reduce the overall carbon footprint,” added Arjun Ganesh, Director of Operations.

With this partnership, Tea Time becomes the first company in India to follow green emission norms. “This collaboration is the first of its kind in India to promote value from waste by recycling almost ten lakhs of used cups in a day. Combining our recycling technology and knowledge of circular services with Tea Time’s sustainability ambitions is enabling a future business model that helps to close the loop,” said Venkat Tulsi Sunkari from ScrapQ.

ScrapQ is a unique service provider in the collection of recyclables, enabling recycling, confidential data destruction, and scrap disposal services in Hyderabad.

This collaboration would be a step towards achieving the Net Zero or Carbon Zero goals of the nation. A collaboration that would motivate various businesses to take the recycling and reuse leap.

Tea Time, since its inception in 2016, has successfully expanded its business with 2500 outlets in just five years. As the brand continues to grow leaps and bounds, the team is leaving no stone unturned in terms of innovations in business management.

MilkoChill, an instant chiller that helps in reducing milk spoilage, awarded in the category of Development of Low-cost Cooling and Milk Preservation System.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 4: Adding another feather to its cap, Ahmedabad-based Prompt Innovations, a leading innovative start-up in the field of energy-efficient and sustainable cooling solutions, has been declared as one of the winners of the Animal Husbandry Startup Grand Challenge 2.0.

Organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying as a part of the Startup India initiative, the Animal Husbandry Startup Grand Challenge 2.0 was aimed at scouting for innovative and commercially viable solutions to address challenges in the animal husbandry and dairying sector and harnessing the power of new technologies in these sectors. A total of 157 applications were received for the challenge.

Prompt Innovations won the honour for MilkoChill, an instant milk chiller that helps in keeping milk fresh and extending its shelf life, under the category of Development of Low-cost Cooling and Milk Preservation System and a Data Logger.

“MilkoChill is a revolutionary product that will change the way milk is chilled. Instant chilling at source results in reduced spoilage, retention of milk quality, higher shelf life, and hence more income for dairy farmers. We are thrilled that the government of India has recognised our efforts in the cooling technologies segment,” said Shridhar Mehta, Director, Prompt Innovations.

The award was presented to Prompt by Hon’ble Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala at the NASC Complex in New Delhi on Wednesday.

India is the largest milk producer in the world with annual production of 210 million tonnes per annum. However, millions of litres of milk gets spoiled due to lack of refrigeration or feasible chilling facilities. Milk spoilage leads to a severe economic impact on marginal dairy farmers who primary source of income is milk.

Delay in chilling and lack of availability of consistent power supply for chilling are key challenges before dairy farmers as it leads to spoilage and affects milk quality. It is also important to address this issue as India also aims to emerge as the best quality milk producer.

MilkoChill is based on a patented thermodynamic design that has been developed by Prompt under technology license from IIT Bombay. The thermal storage mechanism stores energy whenever electricity is available and enables instant milk chilling even in the absence of electricity, making it ideal for rural places, where power supply is still erratic.

MilkoChill can be used where farmers sell directly to consumers, at small milk collection centres where there is no chilling infrastructure, at village collection centres that can provide chilled milk as pre-cooling to cluster bulk milk coolers, as well as by cooperatives and private diaries looking to improve the quality of incoming milk for improved quality of value-added products.

The innovative and affordable MilkoChill allows instant chilling at 250 litres per hour, with a daily capacity of 500 litres.

  • Children Cannot Live With Covid-19 and Other Mysterious Diseases

Children Cannot Live With Covid-19 and Other Mysterious Diseases

    Read Time:2 Minute, 51 Second

June 3: Covid-19 or Post Covid has been a struggling task for everyone, and the rise of some mysterious diseases like monkeypox, hepatitis and tomato flu, is a serious threat to the lives of our children. Children have only stepped out of the house, and these diseases are a real danger to their lives. Some experts say that Covid-19 can be a cause of these diseases, and controlling Covid-19 might be a good control for these diseases.

Mysterious Hepatitis: WHO and US officials have sent a nationwide alert to be on the lookout for symptoms of Hepatitis in children possibly linked with Covid-19 or cold virus. The cases are still low, but they are in the children. Hepatitis or liver inflammation is relatively uncommon in youngsters. However, over 100 cases of acute hepatitis in apparently healthy youngsters have been documented in 25 states and territories in recent months. In addition, at least another 100 cases have been reported in 19 additional countries. According to CDC, while most children recover entirely from hepatitis, 14% of cases in the US required a liver transplant, and five children died. WHO said that the prime suspect was an adenovirus with a Covid-19 infection.

“We observed a peculiar rise in hepatitis cases. Usually, the beginning of the monsoon marks a rise in hepatitis cases. Last year (2021), we started to see this in April or summer in covid positive children who were part of the follow-up. Most of them in the face had recovered from their covid,” said Sumit Ramat, Associate Professor, Microbiology, the Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Tomato Flu or Tomato Fever: Tomato flu recurs in Kerala after a surge of Covid-19 cases. The specific cause of tomato flu, unique to Kerala, is unknown. Apart from the rash, most symptoms-high fever, body aches, joint pain, and nausea are almost identical to those of dengue and chikungunya. During the disease’s 2007 outbreak, there was speculation that it resulted from the two. “It’s not a life-threatening condition, but it is communicable and can move from person to person,” explains Dr. Subhash Chandra, assistant professor of internal medicine at Amrita Hospital in Kochi. “The true modalities of infection dissemination are currently under investigation.” Tomato flu isn’t lethal, but it also doesn’t have a treatment.

Many Indian states like Kerala and Madhya Pradesh report cases of tomato flu and hepatitis in children, raising the idea of “severity”.

Monkeypox: Health experts are increasingly concerned about the origins of a new outbreak in early May in the nation outside of Central and West Africa. Since May 13, at least 257 cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in 23 countries where the virus is not endemic- mostly in Europe and North America- and 120 are suspected. Of those infections, 14 are confirmed or suspected across 8 states in the United States. Health officials, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States and the Health Security Agency in the United Kingdom, claimed that children are susceptible to these diseases putting the country’s future in danger.

We need to realize the severity of these mysterious diseases. The cause of these diseases can be Covid-19, so government should not follow the UK or US protocols regarding Covid-19. Preventive measures must be implemented to protect our children as well as ourselves.
