Ranveer Singh has been impressing the audiences with his acting chops and star power since his debut, and Jayeshbhai Jordaar is definitely his most courageous film. “It was a novel experience for me to create a character that had a different take on the concept of ‘heroism’. The first ever Pitch Fest was organized by the Screenwriters Association India in Mumbai to provide a platform for aspiring screenwriters to showcase their work.

Mumbai, August 25: SWA – Screenwriters Association successfully conducted their first ever Pitch Fest—a bridge connecting aspiring writers and the best producers and studios in the Indian Entertainment Industry. The event took place at the Celebrations Club, Lokhandwala. Esteemed producers, talent agents, and broadcasters came down to celebrate storytelling at its best.

“It was a PITCH MELA. 25 vetted and selected scripts from 600 scripts were out for pitching, submitted by writers from across India. 20 PRODUCTION HOUSES were present at a single venue. Organized by SWA, it was a unique event, a new initiative. Everyone was happy,” says Robin Bhatt, President, Screenwriters Association.

SWA announced its first-ever Script Lab for feature films in February 2022. SWA’s call to entry received more than 600 scripts from all over India. After a strenuous shortlisting process, the jury arrived at the best 60 entries, further narrowing down to 30 and then to the ultimate 6 winning scripts.

These 6 scripts were mentored by 6 writers/directors of repute. The mentors for the SWA Script Lab 2022 were Abhishek Chaubey, Alankrita Srivastava, Shakun Batra, Smita Singh Khan, Sudeep Sharma, and Vikramaditya Motwane.

Soon after the conclusion of the Script Lab, the first ever PITCH FEST was jointly put together by the SWA Events Sub Committee and Education Sub Committee on the 18th of August 2022 at the Celebrations Sports Club, Lokhandwala, Andheri West, Mumbai.

The process of the SWA PitchFest was twofold. The first part involved the selection of the top 25 scripts from the 60 shortlisted ones from The Script Lab. Subsequently, twenty top producers, talent managers, and broadcasters were invited to the location for the final part. The invited producers were given their own booths, and the 25 writers were given the opportunity to pitch and narrate their works to the producers one-on-one. SWA also held workshops to assist the participating writers in creating a strong and persuasive pitch.

“SWA has always been committed to creating platforms and conversations for writers that aim to empower them and accelerate their careers at multiple levels. With Pitch Fest & Script Lab, we aimed to identify young writers across India and train them under mentors to polish their skills and their stories, and eventually make them pitch their work to 20 top producers/studios. We are overwhelmed with the response,” added Zaman Habib, General Secretary, Screenwriters Association. 

Amongst 20 studios, producers and broadcasters who participated in the SWA PitchFest 2022 are Star Studio Disney, Bang Bang Media Corp, Zee 5, Culver Max Entertainment (Formerly Sony), Lionsgate, Junglee Pictures, Maddock Films, Yash Raj Films, Excel Entertainment, amongst others.

The event was a grand success, with over 500 interactions between the invitees and the 25 writers in a single day.

In keeping with the mission of the SWA to foster a feeling of fraternity, sorority, and unity amongst its members, the Pitch Fest 2022 brought about a beautiful interchange of thoughts and ideas between the stalwarts of the industry and the extremely talented future creators!

“The music PR segment in India is going through a paradigm shift,” says the celebrity publicist. “We may not have a lot of the earlier platforms but instead we have a whole lot of new ones. It’s just change and there is nothing to worry about.”

Dale points out that apart from YouTube and Instagram, where any independent music producer can upload and showcase content free of cost, almost each and every entertainment and Bollywood website has a section covering music. “All one needs to do is to adapt and adjust to new media avenues and move with the times,” concludes the PR professional.

For the uninitiated, the publicist’s Mumbai-based Bollywood PR agency Dale Bhagwagar Media Group has handled the media for some 300 personalities including names such as Hrithik Roshan, Shilpa Shetty and Priyanka Chopra.

The PR firm has also publicised some 35 movies including the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Don and Farhan Akhtar-starrer Rock On, apart from having handled the post-release PR for the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Koi… Mil Gaya.

The PR agency is also the first one to declare the internet media as the new mainstream media and focus its activities on new-age news websites for organic content.

August 25: A rare musical talent that has emerged from the bylanes of Kolkata, Sujata Manjhi, a young girl, followed her dreams of becoming a singer. Her state is known for its deep-rooted music culture and arts, producing many great musicians in the country. Sujatha is no different, a budding artist, whose passion for singing made her quit her graduation in Arts and pursue music full time.

Born on the 21st of June in 1989 into a middle-class family who had lost her father, late Mr. Satyanaryan Manjhi and mother, Mrs. Mina Devi, Sujata had to endure her fair share of struggles. She also has two sisters and a brother who she cares dearly, looking out for each other. Her siblings are musically inclined, enabling her to strive for her dreams of becoming a singer.

 Sujata’s passion for singing fuelled her desire to excel and propelled her every step. She knew it was hard to make a name in the music industry, so she determined to seek avenues to showcase her talent. It allows for her talent to be known to the world.

With a lot of hard work and struggles to make a foray into the music world, she fought all odds and got an opportunity from Mumbai-based SJ Beats Original, who recognized her talent and found her unique vocals worth giving a chance. They made her sing an original and begin her journey in music. The song’s lyrics were sung in the past also by Sujata and had been published by a Kolkata publication called Raga. The recent song “Kudi Gulabi” got mileage on YouTube.

Sujata Manjhi started with five songs for an album called Manzil Mushkil. Headlining this project got her experience of the actual happenings in the music industry. She loved the feeling of being in a recording studio, which was a gratifying experience of singing with so many musicians and collaborators for an album. And this was published by Raga in Kolkata, getting her much-needed recognition. This also resulted in grand facilitation by Satyam, a production team based in Kolkata, which happens to be part of the Bengali film industry.

The album became her first step toward reaching her goal of becoming a singer. Sujata Manjhi has collaborated four more times with Satyam. They have produced four video songs in Bengali with two solo songs by her and duets with other known vocalists of the Bengali film industry. Her brother, who followed her closely, also has an inherent talent for music and has recorded a solo video song ready to be published on YouTube.

While Kudi Gulabi was her first break in Mumbai, it was a wonderful experience that got her to reach a wider audience and let them know her singing prowess. Her collaboration for the music album of Manzil Mushkil allowed her to learn a new language. However, pronouncing Urdu words was difficult. She managed to pull it off easily, making the song seem seamless with her melodious voice.

In the songs from the album Manzil Mushkil, published by Raga on YouTube, the audiences like her voice in the title song Manzil Mushkil, Tujhe Yaadon Mein, Kuch Nasha, Jab Pyar Hi Nahi Tha, and Tu Hi Meri Manzil. Her four new video songs in Bengali will be out soon and are much awaited by all her fans and those who love her voice.
