World Health Day, celebrated on April 7th 2025, Brings Attention to the critical importance of mental health. The theme for this year reminds us that there is no health without Mental Health. Mental health is not only crucial for emotional well-being but is also treatable with the right care and support. It’s essential to recognize that both mental and physical health are intertwined, and maintaining a balance in both is key to overall well-being. A healthy lifestyle starts with simple habits. Aim for 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep each night, and focus on a balanced diet. A high- protein, low-carbohydrate diet, along with salads before meals, can improve digestion and keep energy levels stable. Practice mindful eating by filling your plate to about 80% of your appetite, avoiding overeating. Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. A 2-3 km walk daily, along with taking short walks after meals, can significantly improve your health. Meditation and yoga also play a major role in maintaining mental clarity and emotional peace. True health is a combination of physical, mental, emotional, social, sexual, financial, and spiritual well-being, Prioritize your health and mental well-being. If you’re experiencing anxiety, stress, or depression, remember that help is available. Seek support from a professional to improve your quality of life.

    2. Dr Mangesh Patil, MBBS, MS (General Surgery), DNB (Genito-Urinary Surgery), MNAMS (General Surgery), Robotic surgery training (USA), Head of Minimal Invasive Urology & Endourology, Consultant Urologist & Robotic Uro-Oncosurgeon (Robotic Surgery) – Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Girgaon, Saifee Hospital,  Urocare Clinic, Andheri East, Mumbai

As a urologist, I emphasize the importance of early urological health for a lifetime of well-being. Healthy habits from childhood can prevent serious conditions such as kidney disease, urinary infections, and prostate issues later in life. Hydration is crucial—adequate water intake supports kidney function and reduces the risk of stones. Proper hygiene, especially in children, prevents infections, while early screening for congenital abnormalities ensures timely intervention. For men, regular prostate check-ups and lifestyle modifications, including a balanced diet and exercise, contribute to long-term urological health. Women should prioritize pelvic floor health to prevent incontinence and infections. Education on safe sexual practices helps prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) affecting the urinary tract. This World Health Day, let’s promote early awareness, regular check-ups, and preventive care to build a healthier future for all. A proactive approach today ensures a bright, disease-free tomorrow.

    3. Mansi Bansal Jhunjhunwala, Founder & CEO, MASSH Group of Hospitals

True health begins in the mind. In today’s fast-paced world, we often overlook how our thoughts, habits, and daily choices shape our well-being. At MASSH Hospitals, we emphasize on mindful living—not just in diet, but in our overall approach to health. Prevention starts with awareness, and small shifts in mindset can lead to a lasting reduction in disease footprints. It’s essential to pause, reflect, and reboot—whether by nourishing our bodies with detoxifying foods, stepping away from overwhelming thoughts, or reconnecting with nature and our inner selves. At MASSH, I make it a point to connect with patients, engaging in heartfelt conversations about mindfulness. Because when it comes to reducing the footprint of disease, mindfulness is the foundation. This World Health Day, let’s commit to taking mindful steps—pausing, reflecting, and making conscious choices for a healthier future.

    4. Dr Tushar Kranti Ghosh, MBBS, MS, MRCPS, Fellow in FESS, ENT, Head and Neck Surgeon, Specialist in Microscopic, Endoscopic, Laser & Coblation Surgery, Ghosh ENT Foundation, Kolkata

Advanced laser surgery is providing relief from nose, ear, and throat problems. Breakage of voice, persistent hoarseness, nodules or tumors on the vocal cords, or cancer, snoring, or ear issues are now being treated with advanced Lumines laser surgery available in Kolkata. This advanced treatment is providing relief from all sorts of nose, ear, and throat issues, explained Dr Tushar Kanti Ghosh, the director and ENT specialist at Ghosh ENT Foundation. It’s been almost six months, but the hoarse voice of Manas Roy is not improving. Being a college teacher, taking classes had become very difficult. Without delay, after seeing a doctor and various tests, it was found that a small growth on the vocal cord was causing the voice breakage. The treatment involved a minor surgery. At Ghosh ENT Foundation in Salt Lake, the vocal cord issue was resolved using Lumines laser. Professor Manas Roy is now teaching students with a robust voice. This is the magic of Lumines laser surgery. Advanced laser surgery has greatly increased hope and confidence among patients for nose, ear, and throat treatments. Instead of conventional laser, Lumines laser can quickly resolve ENT issues. In some early-stage cancers, Lumines laser can be used instead of radiation for treatment. Additionally, this laser surgery is extremely effective for treating soft tissue tumors in the nose, ear, and throat. From children to senior citizens, laser’s role is significant in treating snoring disorders (obstructive sleep apnea). If children have enlarged adenoid glands, it can be completely cured by coblation adenoidectomy. With the help of navigation, sinus surgery can be performed for permanent relief. At Ghosh ENT Foundation in Salt Lake, if the stapes bone in the ear is fixed, it can be safely vaporized with a laser, restoring hearing capacity without needing a hearing aid. In truth, Lumines laser has brought hope to ENT surgery. Ghosh ENT Foundation has two Lumines laser machines, which are not even available in large multispecialty hospitals. This advanced ENT hospital in Kolkata offers modern treatment for all nose, ear, and throat diseases.

    5. Dr Shakti Singh Deora, MDS, Head & Neck Cancer and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgeon, Director – Compass Cancer Hospital, Ahmedabad Secretary- Asian Head Neck Cancer Foundation, Ahmedabad

World Health Day: Tune Into Yourself

Dr Shakti Singh Deora, Head Neck cancer surgeon, Ahmedabad would like to spread the message on prevention and early detection of cancer.

Pause. Breathe. Check in with your body—it’s always speaking to you. If you feel Ulcer, a lump, discomfort, or something just doesn’t feel right, don’t brush it aside. Early whispers of illness are often silent. Regular screenings and timely check-ups can catch what your eyes can’t see. Don’t wait. Don’t hesitate. & Don’t fear.

This World Health Day, treat it like the precious gift it is. And while you care for the body, don’t forget the mind. A few moments of stillness, a quiet prayer, deep breaths, or a short walk in nature—these simple acts of spirituality can anchor you in peace.

Make this a daily ritual. Because a calm mind leads to a lighter heart, and a lighter heart nurtures a stress-free, healthier body. Tune into yourself—your well-being begins with you.

    6. Dr Taruna Yadav, Senior Ayurveda Doctor, Corporate Wellness Consultant, Founder of Dr Taruna’s Wholistic Health

The World Health Day campaign “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures” on maternal and newborn health is timely and critical. With nearly 300,000 women losing their lives annually due to pregnancy or childbirth, and over 2 million babies dying in the first month, the importance of preventive care cannot be overstated.

As an Ayurvedic doctor and preventive health advocate, I strongly believe that preventive health measures are crucial during this vulnerable phase. Many first-time mothers are unaware of what to expect or how to care for their own health and their child’s well-being. Providing proper health education during this time can significantly improve outcomes.

Additionally, I recommend referring to Ayurvedic pre- and post-natal guidelines from the Samhitas. These ancient practices offer valuable insights to help women navigate this critical period, promoting both maternal and new born health.

    7. Dr Rahul Singhal, Additional Director, Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology, Fortis Hospital Jaipur

As we observe World Health Day 2025, themed ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,’ it’s imperative to focus on maternal and newborn health. Dr Rahul Singhal, a leading cardiologist, emphasizes the importance of comprehensive care during and after pregnancy. He states, ‘Ensuring the health of mothers and newborns is foundational for thriving communities. Regular antenatal check-ups, proper management of existing health conditions, and access to quality postnatal care are vital. Addressing risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes early can significantly reduce complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Additionally, supporting mental health and providing family-friendly policies contribute to the overall well-being of mothers, enabling them to nurture their children effectively. Investing in maternal health is not just a medical necessity but a societal imperative, paving the way for healthier future generations.

8.Dr Harivadan Lukka, Cardiothoracic, Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon

Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures – Dr Harivadan Lukka

On this World Health Day, the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures” reminds us that good health starts with small, conscious choices. It’s not just the absence of illness, but the presence of balance, movement, and care.

In every recovery I’ve witnessed, one thing is clear—healing begins with hope. A single breath, a shift in mindset, or a step toward support can change everything. Let’s choose prevention, value recovery, and make wellness accessible for all. A healthier tomorrow begins today.

    9. Dr Sanjay D Swamy, MBBS, DNB (Paediatrics), Fellowship in Paediatric Critical Care (IAP), Clinical Fellow  in Paediatric Intensive Care (Birmingham, UK), Lead Consultant Paediatrician and Intensivist, Cloudnine hospital, Bangalore

World Health Day 2025 is a powerful reminder that the path to a healthier world begins with our children. As a pediatrician, I believe that healthy beginnings are the cornerstone of lifelong wellbeing. The early years of a child’s life are critical — proper nutrition, timely immunizations, regular health check-ups, and a nurturing environment can significantly shape their physical, emotional, and cognitive development.

Parents and caregivers must recognize the power they hold in shaping their child’s health journey. From instilling good hygiene habits to encouraging physical activity and emotional expression, every small effort counts. Preventive healthcare and early intervention are key tools in reducing disease burden and promoting resilience.

This World Health Day, let’s recommit to building a future where every child has the opportunity to grow up healthy, happy, and safe. Investing in our children’s health is not just a responsibility — it’s a gift to the future. When we nurture young lives today, we lay the foundation for empowered, thriving adults who will lead a healthier tomorrow.”

    10. Dr Kamal Sagar, MDS, Periodontics (Mamc, New-Delhi), Fellowship in Implants, Boston University (USA), Consultant Implantologist at UAE, Saudi-Arabia and Kenya, Medical Director at UAE dental center

A healthy beginning in dental care is the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health. It all starts with establishing proper habits early on, such as brushing and flossing twice daily, visiting the dentist regularly, and maintaining a balanced diet. For children, its essential to introduce these practices at a young age, setting the stage for healthy teeth and gums as they grow. Early dental checkups allow dentist to identify potential issues before they become major problems, ensuring a lifetime of optimal oral as well as general health, since oral health is directly related to general health too. A good start also includes avoiding sugary snacks and drinks that can lead to tooth decay. As we age, maintaining these habits is crucial for preventing gum disease, cavities, and other dental problems. Ultimately, a healthy beginning in dental care leads to stronger teeth, better overall health, and a more confident smile throughout the life with mental peace.

  • Dr. Garima Mehta’s Ultimate Guide to Screen Time in 2025 for Parents

Dr. Garima Mehta’s Ultimate Guide to Screen Time in 2025 for Parents

In today’s digital age, screens are an integral part of our lives. From online learning to social interactions, children in 2025 are more connected than ever. While technology offers numerous benefits, excessive screen time can have significant impacts on a child’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. As a pediatrician, I often counsel parents on how to strike a healthy balance between screen use and other essential activities.

This guide will help parents navigate screen time for their children, ensuring a balanced and healthy digital experience.

The Impact of Excessive Screen Time on Children

Studies continue to highlight the effects of prolonged screen exposure on children. Some key concerns include:

    1. Delayed Development in Young Children

Children under five are in a critical stage of brain development. Excessive screen exposure can limit their ability to develop essential social, cognitive, and motor skills. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends minimal screen time for children under two and no more than one hour daily for those aged two to five, with a focus on high-quality content.

    2. Sleep Disruptions

The blue light emitted from screens suppresses melatonin production, making it harder for children to fall asleep. Poor sleep can lead to behavioral issues, decreased concentration, and even weakened immunity. Parents should enforce a screen-free bedtime routine at least one hour before sleep.

    3. Increased Risk of Obesity

Sedentary screen time can contribute to childhood obesity. Many children prefer gaming or watching videos over outdoor play, reducing their physical activity. Additionally, screen time is often associated with mindless snacking, leading to unhealthy eating habits.

    4. Emotional and Behavioral Challenges

Overuse of screens can lead to irritability, attention difficulties, and even anxiety or depression in children. Social media exposure can impact self-esteem, and excessive gaming may contribute to addictive behaviors.

    5. Reduced Family and Social Interactions

Excessive digital engagement can replace face-to-face interactions, impacting a child’s ability to develop meaningful relationships. Children need real-world social interactions to build emotional intelligence and communication skills.

Setting Healthy Screen Time Limits in 2025

With technology integrated into education and daily life, completely eliminating screens isn’t practical. Instead, a balanced approach is key. Here’s how parents can manage screen time effectively:

    1. Follow the 5:2:1 Rule

Many pediatricians recommend a structured approach to screen time. The 5:2:1 rule suggests:

    • 5 hours of physical activity per week
    • 2 hours or less of recreational screen time per day
    • 1 hour before bedtime should be screen-free

This helps children maintain a balance between digital and physical activities.

    2. Prioritize Quality Over Quantity

Instead of focusing solely on the amount of screen time, ensure children consume high-quality, educational, and age-appropriate content. Interactive and creative activities such as coding, digital art, and educational games are preferable to passive scrolling or binge-watching videos.

    3. Encourage Screen-Free Zones and Times

Establish screen-free zones, such as dining areas and bedrooms, to promote family bonding and better sleep hygiene. Designate specific hours in the day where screens are put away, encouraging outdoor play, reading, and social interactions.

    4. Lead by Example

Children learn by observing their parents. If parents frequently use devices during meals or conversations, children are likely to do the same. Model healthy screen habits by limiting your own screen use and engaging in offline activities together.

    5. Monitor Content and Online Safety

With increased online exposure, children are at risk of cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and online predators. Parents should:

    • Use parental controls and privacy settings.
    • Discuss online safety regularly, emphasizing responsible internet use.
    • Encourage open conversations so children feel comfortable reporting any distressing experiences.

    6. Encourage Active Screen Use

Not all screen time is equal. Passive consumption (watching videos) differs from active use (learning a new skill, virtual exercise, or creating content). Encourage activities that promote problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.

    7. Balance Digital and Real-World Interactions

Encourage children to participate in offline hobbies such as reading, sports, or music. Organizing family activities that don’t involve screens—like hiking, board games, or cooking—helps strengthen relationships and promotes overall well-being.

    Screen Time Recommendations by Age

    Infants (0-2 years)

    • Avoid screen time, except for video calls with family.
    • Encourage sensory play, face-to-face interactions, and outdoor experiences.

    Toddlers (2-5 years)

    • Limit screen time to one hour per day of high-quality, educational content.
    • Co-view content with your child and discuss what they are watching.

    Children (6-12 years)

    • Limit recreational screen time to 1-2 hours daily.
    • Balance screen use with outdoor play, reading, and social interactions.
    • Introduce screen-free family time.

    Teens (13-18 years)

    • Encourage self-regulation and responsible use of technology.
    • Monitor social media use and promote digital well-being.
    • Maintain screen-free mealtimes and a tech-free hour before bed.

The Future of Screen Time Management

With advancements like virtual reality (VR) education, AI-based learning tools, and smart devices becoming more common, screen time will continue to evolve. Instead of fearing technology, parents should focus on guiding children to use it mindfully and responsibly.

Educational platforms, parental control apps, and digital wellness tools in 2025 offer more ways to monitor and balance screen use. However, the foundation of a healthy digital lifestyle remains the same—prioritizing real-world interactions, physical activity, and mindful screen engagement.

    Final Thoughts

Screen time in 2025 is a reality that parents cannot ignore. The key is to approach it with awareness and balance. By setting clear boundaries, promoting quality content, and encouraging offline activities, parents can ensure that their children develop a healthy relationship with technology.

As a pediatrician, my advice to parents is simple: Technology should be a tool, not a replacement for real-life experiences. With mindful management, we can raise a generation of children who are both digitally savvy and emotionally well-rounded.

Dr. Garima Mehta is a practicing Pediatrician from Surat. Views expressed above are the author’s own.

  • Rare disease Blood-Sweating Disorder Successfully Treated with Advanced Homeopathy – Dr AK dwivedi

Rare disease Blood-Sweating Disorder Successfully Treated with Advanced Homeopathy – Dr AK dwivedi

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], March 28: In a groundbreaking medical case, a 17-year-old teenager suffering from the rare condition of Hematohidrosis (Bloody Sweating) has fully recovered with advanced homeopathic treatment. The case, documented and treated under the expertise of Dr. A.K. Dwivedi, sheds light on this mysterious and distressing disorder.
Hematohidrosis, or Haematidrosis, is a rare condition where a person sweats blood instead of normal perspiration. • Gaurisatva Ghee Elixir redefines skincare with Ayurveda inspired formulations for holistic well-being

Gaurisatva Ghee Elixir redefines skincare with Ayurveda inspired formulations for holistic well-being

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 24:  In an era dominated by synthetic beauty products and ever-changing skincare trends, Ahmedabad-based Gaurisatva is committed to bringing back the authenticity of Ayurveda. The startup, founded by Psychologist and Mental Health Advocate Ruchika A. Pandya, is redefining skincare with time-honoured Ayurveda-inspired formulations that prioritise purity and holistic well-being.

Having worked closely with women struggling with body image and self-esteem issues, Ruchika realised that unrealistic beauty standards were not only affecting mental health but also leading many to use harsh, chemical-laden products. Determined to change this narrative, she embarked on a journey to create Gaurisatva, a brand rooted in ancient Indian wellness traditions.

“Ayurveda has been a part of our heritage for thousands of years, but somewhere along the way, we started overlooking its true essence and ignoring its benefits. Our ancestors relied on natural, time-tested remedies, and Gaurisatva is an effort to bring those back in a way that resonates with modern consumers,” says Ruchika.

The brand’s first product is a face moisturiser based on Shata Dhauta Ghrita, a formula detailed in the ancient Charak Samhita. Using clean ingredients, without harsh preservatives or toxic chemicals, the product showcases the brand’s ethos of gentle yet effective skincare.

Gaurisatva is committed to sustainability, using ingredients gifted by nature and ancient recipes that have been passed down through generations. Its products are formulated to be safe and effective without compromising on authenticity.

“We need to go back to our roots and embrace skincare that is natural, non-toxic, and beneficial in the long run. India is the birthplace of Ayurveda, and while the world has embraced it, we must take pride in our traditions and integrate them into our daily lives,” adds Ruchika.

Currently available on the brand’s website (gaurisatva.com) and Amazon, Gaurisatva also plans to build a strong offline presence. The startup is collaborating with influencers, Ayurveda experts, and skincare professionals to spread awareness and educate consumers on the real power of natural healing. With plans to introduce Ayurveda-based body lotions, body mists and face washes, the brand aims to establish itself as a trusted name in nature-led beauty.

  • MGL Aarogya Programme Empowers 2,000 Rural Women in Raigad with Cervical Cancer Awareness and Screening

MGL Aarogya Programme Empowers 2,000 Rural Women in Raigad with Cervical Cancer Awareness and Screening

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 21: In a significant step towards women’s healthcare, the Science and Technology Park, Pune, in collaboration with its incubatee company AyuGen Biosciences Private Limited, has successfully implemented a Cervical Cancer Awareness and Screening Programme for 2,000 rural women from the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The initiative, supported by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), Mumbai, under the MGL Aarogya Programme, aims to promote early detection and prevention of cervical cancer among underserved communities.

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer affecting women in India, with a particularly high incidence among those aged 25 to 50 years. Notably, rural regions report some of the highest rates of this preventable disease. Every year, India accounts for nearly 130,000 new cases and 74,000 deaths due to cervical cancer. Given its asymptomatic nature in early stages, early detection through screening programs is critical in reducing mortality rates.

Dr. Rajendra Jagdale, Director General & CEO, Science and Technology Park, Pune, emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating, “Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers where the cause is known and prevention is possible if detected at an early stage. Timely support from Mahanagar Gas Limited has allowed us to make a real impact in rural Maharashtra by bringing life-saving awareness and screening to thousands of women.”

The programme utilized the HPV test, a USFDA-approved method with over 90% median sensitivity for detecting pre-cancers. The Cobas HPV test, which identifies 14 high-risk HPV types, was conducted across 15 locations in Raigad, reaching out to more than 50,000 women through awareness efforts promoted via print and social media.

Out of 2,039 samples collected and tested82 women (4.02%) were found to be HPV-positive. The highest prevalence was observed in regions including Alibaug, Pen, Panvel, Neral, and Uran, with an average age of 40.3 years among positive cases. Women who tested negative do not require screening for the next 4-5 years, significantly reducing unnecessary medical interventions.

Mr. Susanta Kumar Raut, Chief Manager CSR, Mahanagar Gas Limited, highlighted the corporate social responsibility efforts behind the initiative, stating, “MGL Aarogya Programme is committed to ensuring accessible healthcare for underserved communities. By supporting this cervical cancer awareness and screening drive, we aim to safeguard the health and well-being of thousands of women, empowering them with knowledge and early diagnosis.”

All 82 HPV-positive women identified during the screening programme have been provided with follow-up testing and treatment support. They will undergo repeat testing after a year to ensure continued monitoring and early intervention. The initiative has not only saved lives but also prevented the financial and emotional strain that late-stage cancer diagnosis can bring to families.

Mr. Ashu Shinghal, Managing Director, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), stated that with the continued support of Mahanagar Gas LimitedScience and Technology Park, Pune along with its incubatee company AyuGen Biosciences Pvt. Ltd., the initiative is set to expand its outreach, bringing hope and healthcare to even more women across Maharashtra.

Mr. Vaibhav Nimgire, Assistant Manager, Science and Technology Park, Pune, further added, “Prevention and early detection are the key to combating cervical cancer. Through this programme, we have ensured that women in remote villages receive the necessary information and medical support, reinforcing our mission to bridge the healthcare gap in rural India.”

The programme concluding event was held at Neel Clinic, New Panvel. Mr. Manish Pungliya, Founder & Director, AyuGen Biosciences Pvt. Ltd and Dr.(Mrs) Shubhada Neel were present on this occasion.
