    How to use: A cup of fenugreek seeds and water must be soaked overnight. Grind it and massage this paste in the hair. Leave it on the hair for 10-15 minutes and wash off with mild shampoo.

    Essential oils treatment

    Essential oils act as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial on scalp hair and help repair damaged shaft hair. Choose oils like sage, peppermint, chamomile, rosemary, thyme, etc.

    Sage oil: It is very useful in hair growth when diluted and applied on the scalp.

    Lavender oil: It stimulates hair growth through hair follicle growth and enhanced blood flow to scalp.

    Peppermint oil: It is involved in increasing scalp thickness and the number of hair follicles. The menthol in it dilates blood vessels promoting hair growth.

    Chamomile oil: It helps in hair growth with consistent use.

    Rosemary oil: It promotes hair growth and reduces pain and stress lifting your mood.

    Thyme oil: It strengthens hair and decreases hair loss. It helps better circulation to scalp.

    How to use: Put 5-6 drops of any one the essential oils into around 2 tablespoons of almond oil. Massage the oil into the hair and scalp and then wrap it with a hot towel over the head. Leave for 30 minutes and then shampoo the hair for best results.

    Castor oil 

    It consists of fatty acids that nourish hair follicles as they penetrate easily suggests a 2022 article from the International Journal of Trichology. It protects the scalp and hair shaft from fungal or microbial infections and promotes hair growth. 

    Apply around a tablespoon of castor oil evenly to the hair ends. Let it on for 30 minutes to some hours to get maximum benefit.

    Banana

    According to a 2017 article, bananas stimulate the healing of hair and scalp disorders. They hydrate, reduce frizziness, and split ends. 

    How to use: Take 2 ripe bananas, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Grind it into a paste and apply it to the scalp and hair. Wash it after 15-20 minutes.

    Scalp exercises

    According to a 2016 article, scalp massage results in increased hair thickness. Around 5-10 minutes of massage with your fingertips stimulates blood flow and relieves stress to a great extent.

By practicing yoga asanas that stimulated her internal organs, especially those involved in digestion, Anya began to experience gradual improvements in her health.
     
    Over three years of dedication and perseverance, Anya reclaimed her vitality and found a level of wellness she never thought possible. Inspired by her transformative journey, she made it her mission to share the gift of yoga and meditation with others, especially those facing similar health issues.
     
    Enter “Zen,” Anya’s passion project aimed at making yoga accessible to all. Through adaptive programs tailored to individual needs and abilities, she strives to empower others to embark on their own journey to wellness. Anya’s initiatives extend far beyond the studio, reaching into the heart of her community.
     
    She conducted a four-week adaptive yoga program at the Missionaries of Charity for the disabled, offering tailored sessions to meet their unique challenges. Standing yoga sessions for senior citizens provided them with an opportunity to improve mobility and enhance their overall well-being.
     
    In local parks, Anya hosted classes for women, fostering a sense of community and empowerment through movement and mindfulness. At Don Bosco Ashalayam, she conducted sessions focusing on breathing techniques, improving balance, and strengthening the lower body for 40 participants.

    Anya’s commitment to spreading the transformative power of yoga reached new heights on the International Yoga Day 2023. Under the guidance of Swami Lakhanji and two additional yoga teachers, she led a public session attended by 70 people, promoting holistic well-being and unity through yoga.

    To help people beyond her personal yoga practise, Anya blended her passion for yoga with entrepreneurship by starting a T-shirt business tailored to the preferences of teens. She creatively infused mindfulness themes into the designs and each T-shirt, which became more than just apparel; they became a gentle nudge towards daily yoga practice, aligning with her vision to contribute positively to the community.

    She showcased them at yoga competitions and within school premises, distributing T-shirts as tokens of encouragement.  She has generously donated all of the proceeds from the T-shirt sales to buy 50 winter kits for the Family Vision Foundation NGO, which she has then distributed to children and adults in Yamuna Khadar area.

    Her journey to discipline, focus, and self-discovery has recently culminated in a remarkable achievement: winning the silver medal in the SYSA District Yogasana Championship. Yet, for Anya, the true reward lies in her ability to inspire others and foster holistic well-being in her community.

    New Delhi (India), March 18: Despite insistence and conformity to current societal norms, parents often feel rather shocked and worried, if their son starts showing girlish tendencies or the girl is not only a tomboy but considers herself a boy! Solution might be closer to us than we think with this new knowledge!!

    Autism Spectrum Disorder and Gender Dysphoria co-exist rather often than we might expect!

    The relationship between gender dysphoria and autism is complex and multifaceted. Research by the International Society for Sexual Medicine (2016) stated that in comparison to the general population, the condition of Gender Dysphoria (GD) is considerably more prevalent among children and adolescents with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The percentage of co-occurrence of GD and ASD is as high as 68% (Vermaat LE, LGBT Health. 2018). 

    Autism Spectrum Disorder and Gender Dysphoria are two distinct conditions that can intersect, presenting unique challenges for individuals and healthcare providers. 

    According to DSM-5 ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by “persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts” along with “restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities” (DSM-5, American Psychiatric Association, 2013). 

    Gender Dysphoria, on the other hand, is “a marked incongruence between one’s experienced/expressed gender and assigned gender” (DSM-5, American Psychiatric Association, 2013). 

    For individuals with both Autism and Gender Dysphoria, navigating social interactions and expressing their gender identity can be particularly challenging. ASD is characterized by difficulties in understanding social cues and norms, which can impact their ability to understand as well as communicate their gender identity effectively. It so happens that children with ASD possesses a more fluid or, well, a less rigid understanding of the concept of gender per say. These social challenges can make it difficult for them to navigate gender norms and expectations. This can further lead to feelings of isolation and alienation, which may exacerbate gender dysphoria. Additionally, the heightened sensory sensitivity among children with ASD affect how they experience their bodies and the world around them. This heightened sensitivity may make them more aware of and sensitive to the incongruence between their assigned sex and gender identity, leading to increased distress. 

    As we can see, understanding this intersection is crucial for providing effective support and care for children and adolescents who has been diagnosed with both the conditions. Many children and adolescents are brought to our Tertiary Care Child Development Center by their parents with concerns about gender confusion. For the past 17 years and till date not a single child has had to leave our centre with gender confusion. To state a case as such, in 2023, a fourteen-year-old boy came with his parents whose mother is a nurse. More than her concern regarding her son’s lack of education or his habit of lying, she expressed severe concerns over and over again about his gender confusion. Stealing mother’s sarees and petticoats, and impersonating a woman was amongst his daily routines. Parents were upset. From the age of eight, from Medinipur to Delhi-Delhi, Vellore and Bangalore, she finally gave up and protested in Kolkata! The mother’s condition was so bad that for the first three months she used to physically abuse her son every time she came for treatment. The mother reported a tad relief when the son was showing minor results. After the treatment, when we gathered for the routine multidisciplinary team meeting, a process where professionals from all departments (that includes a developmental paediatrician, psychologist, vision therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, and special educator) and the parents with the child meet to discuss the current developmental improvements of the child, we asked about their then-existing problems, especially,   about gender confusion, their expressions of joy are still unforgettable. “That’s all gone” was the ultimate quote of the parents. They forgot about the stated difficulty of gender confusion of the child to the extent that we had to remind them about it through our routine follow-up questions. 

    Since we know from a 2015 Canadian research study that the higher the autism, the higher is the gender confusion. So, in our holistic treatment of Autism, which we call the “Kolkata Developmental Model”- an Universal Care Pathway, does gender confusion go away as Autism gets better? Canadian research shows autism gets better. So, if autism can be treated keeping gender confusion in mind, can gender confusion be eliminated along with Autism? Well our experience of working in accordance to the Kolkata Developmental Model and following it for the treatment of children with Autism for the past 17 years definitely says so!

    Study shows sleep is essential for overall health and well-being

    Research conducted by researchers and doctors shows sleep is not just a period of rest but a complex biological process.

    Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 15: The annual World Sleep Day, which aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and amendment of sleep disorders, will be celebrated on March 15 this year. New research reveals that quality sleep is not just a period of rest, but a complex biological process essential for physical and mental health and well-being.

    The research, conducted by a group of researchers led by Dr Gunjan Y Trivedi, was published in the Journal of Applied Consciousness Studies in January.

    “Consider sleep as a complex symphony. When different stages work together in perfect harmony, it profoundly benefits our physical and mental health. At the same time, disrupting the delicate balance can lead to significant consequences,” says Dr Trivedi.

    The study highlights the importance of two distinct sleep stages – rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM (NREM). Characterized by rapid eye movements and heightened brain activity, REM sleep is often called the dream stage. It is believed to play a crucial role in emotional processing and cognitive functions. The first half of the night is typically dominated by NREM sleep, while REM sleep becomes more prominent as the night progresses, with dreams often occurring during these periods.

    “REM sleep may be a platform for the brain to process emotions and consolidate memories related to skills and habits,” says Riri G Trivedi, who presented the link between sleep disruption and depression at a National Academy of Psychologist meeting recently in Visakhapatnam.

    On the other hand, NREM sleep, often called deep sleep, is the restorative phase where the body prioritizes repair and recovery. During this stage, growth hormone production increases, promoting tissue growth and repair. The immune system is bolstered, helping us fight off illness. The brain waste is effectively carried out during this stage, reducing the risk of long-term memory issues. Moreover, NREM sleep facilitates the strengthening and integration of new memories.

    If sleep is a symphony, the circadian rhythm, the body’s internal clock, is its conductor. Light exposure is the primary cue for the circadian rhythm, with darkness signaling the release of melatonin, the sleep hormone.

    “A well-regulated circadian rhythm ensures that NREM and REM sleep stages occur in a balanced sequence, promoting optimal sleep quality,” says Dr Banshi Saboo, a renowned diabetologist who has done much work with sleep and circadian rhythms.

    Studies have shown that disrupted sleep can lead to a range of adverse health consequences such as a weakened immune system, higher risk of heart disease and stroke, weight gain, difficulty in concentrating and remembering, mood disorders like depression and anxiety, and increased risk of accidents due to drowsiness. Sleep disturbances can also lead to long-term effects such as a higher risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and even some cancers, reduced quality of life, and increased risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

    According to experts, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends, and maximizing natural light exposure during the day is crucial for regulating the circadian rhythm. Avoiding bright screens before bed can further improve sleep quality. Identifying any underlying medical conditions can also help in improving sleep hygiene.
