  • India–UK CETA: A Boost for India’s Technical Textile Exports to the UK

India–UK CETA: A Boost for India’s Technical Textile Exports to the UK

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 4: The recently signed India–UK Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA) by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mr. Keir Starmer, marks a transformative milestone in strengthening economic and trade ties between the two countries.

The Agreement offers 100% duty-free market access for Indian exports to the UK, covering 99% of the UK’s tariff lines, thereby unlocking new opportunities for several sectors, particularly Technical Textiles.

Bhadresh Dodhia, Immediate Past Chairman of MATEXIL (Manmade Fibre and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council), who was part of the High-Powered Business Delegation accompanying Prime Minister Modi to the UK, said “This historic agreement is poised to open substantial new market opportunities for India’s Technical Textiles sector. India will now enjoy a significant competitive edge over China in this domain, as China does not  have any FTA with the UK.”

The UK currently imports Technical Textiles worth over USD 7 billion annually. India, with its growing capabilities, can scale up its exports in this segment from USD 240 million at present to over USD 1 billion by 2030.

Shaleen Toshniwal, Chairman, MATEXIL, welcomed the CETA and emphasized that key sub-segments such as Agrotech, Geotech, Hometech, Indutech, Packtech, and Sportech are poised for strong growth under the agreement, citing India’s cost competitiveness and manufacturing strength. Further , he added that “With the removal of tariff barriers, Indian exporters can now significantly enhance their footprint in the UK across high-potential categories like medical textiles, protective wear, geo-textiles, industrial fabrics, and agro-tech textiles.”

India already possesses the technical capability to produce high-performance textiles in line with global standards. The India–UK CETA will allow Indian manufacturers to compete on equal terms with global players in the UK market.

MATEXIL, which is entrusted with the export promotion of both Manmade Fibre Textiles and Technical Textiles, is actively collaborating with industry stakeholders and the Ministry of Textiles to:

    • Identify priority export products,
    • Support compliance with UK regulatory and sustainability standards, and
    • Facilitate buyer–seller linkages and certification support.

Bhadresh Dodhia further advised exporters that “Until the agreement is fully implemented, Indian Technical Textile exporters should proactively study UK market requirements, technical standards, and sustainability norms to better position themselves and maximize the benefits of the CETA.”

To support the industry, MATEXIL will soon be organizing outreach programs, B2B meetings, and market intelligence sessions to ensure that Indian exporters are well-prepared to capitalize on the immense opportunities offered under the India–UK CETA.

  • Bone & Joint Day 2025: Expert Advice on Prevention, Early Care & Mobility Health

Bone & Joint Day 2025: Expert Advice on Prevention, Early Care & Mobility Health

New Delhi [India], August 4: Bone & Joint Day 2025 serves as a timely reminder of the growing importance of musculoskeletal health in today’s fast-paced world. As joint pain, stiffness, and mobility challenges increasingly affect individuals across all age groups, the focus has shifted towards prevention, early care, and long-term mobility solutions. From sedentary lifestyles to sports injuries and age-related degeneration, bone and joint issues are becoming more common—but they are also more manageable with the right knowledge and timely intervention. In this special article, leading orthopedic experts offer practical advice and share the latest advancements in orthopedic care, highlighting how early attention and preventive strategies can help people stay active, independent, and pain-free throughout life.

Dr. Sushrut Babhulkar, MS (Orth), MCH (Orth) (UK), Sushrut Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur

Maintaining strong bones is essential for an active and healthy life, especially as we age. Bone health is influenced significantly by lifestyle choices, including diet, physical activity, and regular medical consultation. Calcium is the key building block of bones. Adults need approximately 1000–1200 mg daily, sourced from dairy products, leafy greens, or supplements. However, calcium alone isn’t enough — vitamin D is crucial for calcium absorption. Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, and even 15–20 minutes of exposure daily can be beneficial. Fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods also help maintain adequate levels.

A sedentary lifestyle can accelerate bone loss. Regular weight-bearing exercises such as walking, jogging, and resistance training stimulate bone formation. Avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol is equally important, as these habits weaken bones.

Newer medications like Romosozumab, a bone-forming monoclonal antibody, offer advanced options for patients with severe osteoporosis, especially those at high risk of fractures. These therapies can rapidly improve bone density and reduce fracture rates.

Orthopedic surgeons and all healthcare providers must stay updated on evolving treatment strategies. Continuing medical education and awareness of newer therapies are vital to offer patients the most effective, evidence-based care. Investing in bone health begins with knowledge — both for patients and doctors. Finally, remember… “Beauty is bone deep.”

Dr. Ritwik Ganguli, Professor of Orthopaedics, KPC Medical College & Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, Kolkata

On this Bone & Joint Day 2025, Dr. Ritwik Ganguli emphasizes the growing importance of early intervention and precision care in maintaining joint health and mobility. A renowned orthopedic surgeon with specialization in arthroscopy, sports medicine, joint reconstruction, and minimally invasive knee and hip replacement, Dr. Ganguli believes that restoring mobility starts with accurate diagnosis, timely treatment, and patient-centric rehabilitation.

With advanced training from Japan in arthroscopy and sports surgery, he routinely treats ACL/PCL injuries, meniscal and rotator cuff tears, and complex joint trauma. His commitment to rapid recovery protocols and evidence-based treatment ensures better long-term outcomes for patients.

Dr. Ganguli also highlights the role of preventive strategies such as muscle strengthening, maintaining healthy vitamin D levels, and lifestyle modification. “Mobility is not just movement — it’s freedom, independence, and quality of life,” he shares, reinforcing the need for awareness, early care, and expert guidance.

Dr. Madan Mohan Reddy, Sr. Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon Robotic Knee Replacement Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai

On the occasion of Bone & Joint Day 2025, it is important to emphasize the growing need for awareness around bone and joint health. As our lifestyles become increasingly sedentary, we are seeing a rise in early-onset joint problems, spine disorders, and mobility issues across all age groups. Prevention begins with consistent physical activity, a nutritious diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding injuries through safe movement practices. Early diagnosis and timely medical attention can prevent minor issues from becoming chronic or disabling.

In today’s era, advanced technologies like robotic-assisted knee and hip replacement, minimally invasive arthroscopy, and precise spine surgery have revolutionized orthopedic care—offering patients faster recovery, minimal pain, and enhanced mobility outcomes. However, the key remains early intervention and a proactive approach to health.

As an orthopedic surgeon, my goal is not just to treat but to educate and empower people to protect their mobility and independence. Healthy bones and joints are the foundation of an active and fulfilling life. Let us use this day to prioritize movement, strength, and self-care—for ourselves and our communities.

Dr Santosh Shetty, Director Department of Joint Replacement in Surana Group of Hospitals, Mumbai

Joint pain is no longer just an age-related issue, it’s a lifestyle concern. On this Bone & Joint Day 2025, let’s bring attention to early care, prevention, and movement-focused living.

According to Dr. Santosh Shetty, Robotic Joint Replacement Surgeon and Bone Preservation Advocate, “The key to lifelong mobility is early recognition and timely intervention. Many patients delay seeking help until the damage is severe. But with today’s advances in imaging, joint preservation techniques, and minimally invasive procedures, we can often delay or even avoid major surgery.”

Simple actions like staying active, strengthening muscles, maintaining a healthy weight, and listening to your body go a long way in protecting your joints.

This year, let’s change the narrative. Instead of waiting for joints to wear out, let’s learn how to preserve them, strengthen them, and keep moving pain-free and confident.

Dr. Yadwinder Singh Grewal, MS, DNB, D.Ortho, FIJR, Diploma in Football & Sports Medicine (FIFA)

Joints are the silent pillars of mobility, often overlooked until discomfort sets in. Dr. Yadwinder Singh Grewal, a leading orthopedic surgeon at Bombay Bone & Joint Clinic, emphasizes that joint health must be a lifelong priority—not just a response to pain. Prevention starts with smart, consistent movement. Low-impact activities like walking, swimming, or yoga help keep joints flexible and lubricated. Strengthening muscles around the joints—particularly the thighs, glutes, shoulders, and back—adds stability and reduces long-term wear and tear.

Dr. Grewal also highlights the crucial role of maintaining a healthy weight, noting that even a small reduction can significantly decrease joint stress. Early signs like stiffness, swelling, or instability shouldn’t be ignored, as early care can prevent serious issues. Balanced nutrition rich in calcium, vitamin D, omega-3s, and antioxidants supports long-term joint function. Lastly, he reminds us that recovery, rest, and posture awareness are essential to protect our joints and preserve mobility across all stages of life.

Dr. Ajith Chandrasekar (P.T.), Senior Spine Specialist, QI Spine Clinic, Bangalore

Dr. Ajith Chandrasekar highlights a rising concern—spinal and joint issues are no longer limited to older adults. Increasingly, individuals in their 20s to 40s, especially those in IT and desk-bound jobs, are presenting with slipped discs, neck pain, and early arthritis due to prolonged sitting, poor posture, and ignored warning signs.

He shares three key principles: First, your walk reveals your risk—subtle changes in gait often signal stress before pain begins, and gait analysis can detect it early. Second, movement heals—early, guided motion within 48 hours of injury promotes better recovery. Third, consistency matters more than intensity—short, daily mobility drills (microloading) are more protective than sporadic intense workouts.

He also stresses the bone-brain connection: reduced mobility and low Vitamin D levels are linked to cognitive decline and poor balance after 50. “Taking care of your joints means investing in your independence—for today and decades to come,” he says.

Dr. Vidyasagar Chandankere, MBBS, MS Orthopaedics, Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics – Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon, Hyderabad

On Bone & Joint Day 2025, Dr. Vidyasagar Chandankere highlights that strong joint health begins in childhood—laying the foundation for mobility, independence, and quality of life as adults. With over 14 years of experience in paediatric orthopaedics at Apollo Hospitals Jubilee Hills, Sunshine Hospitals, Udai Omni, and Rainbow Children’s Hospital, he specializes in treating conditions such as clubfoot, developmental hip disorders, cerebral palsy, rickets, and limb deformities.

Dr. Chandankere advocates early detection, timely intervention, and family-centered care. His approach blends advanced surgical techniques with non-invasive therapies and parental involvement to ensure healthy development and prevent future joint degeneration.

With changing times, lifestyle disorders have become more common in children. We have observed delayed speech, tight heel cords, and being overweight as some of the most common issues. Prolonged exposure to and addiction to mobile phones, along with reduced outdoor spaces for play and physical activity, are additional causes for concern.

He also engages in medical education, rural orthopedic camps, and research—including award-winning presentations like a Gold Medal at TOSACON 2023.

“Investing in healthy joints early means safeguarding mobility—and quality of life—for decades to come,” Dr. Chandankere affirms.

  • India Gears Up for the Indian Fashion Glamour League: Where Style Meets Strategy

India Gears Up for the Indian Fashion Glamour League: Where Style Meets Strategy

New Delhi [India], August 2: A new kind of league is on the horizon. Entrepreneur Sandeep Nanda is bringing a grand, never-before-seen fashion league to India — one that promises to blend the glamour of couture with the adrenaline of competition. Known for once soaring high in the aviation industry, Nanda is no stranger to glitz and innovation. His journey began with the entertainment revolution in India as part of the founding team at Radio Mirchi, where he helped shape FM radio in North India. That experience gave him a masterclass in mass communication, pop culture, and audience psychology.

Now, he’s channelling all that learning into launching the Indian Fashion Glamour League (IFGL) — a league as ambitious, high-energy, and fan-driven as the most significant global sporting events. Nanda explains, “Why should sports have all the leagues? Why not fashion? Why not creativity?”

Backed by his India-Canada venture, Xmaxx Studios Pvt Ltd, the Indian Fashion Glamour League is no longer just an idea — it’s a full-fledged, multi-million-dollar entertainment property in the making.

The concept is simple, yet revolutionary. Much like the Indian Premier League (IPL), IFGL will feature city-based teams — such as Delhi Divas, Mumbai Marigold, Punjabi Patakas — and even some international squads like Dubai Dazzlers and European Elites. Each team will be owned by celebrities or entrepreneurs and consist of models, stylists, designers, and digital influencers. These teams will compete weekly in fashion face-offs judged by experts and voted on by audiences, both on live stages and OTT platforms.

“It’s fashion meets Formula 1. It’s styling meets strategy. And it’s time the world saw Indian creativity in a league format,” says Nanda.

At Xmaxx Studios, the motto is “Ideas Become IP.” With offices in Delhi and Vancouver, Nanda’s vision for IFGL is to create India’s answer to K-pop, Formula 1, and the Met Gala — all rolled into one dynamic league, driven by format, fandom, and fire. “IFGL isn’t just about fabric. It’s about identity. It’s not about walking the ramp — it’s about owning your space on it,” he adds.

The league will feature live auctions to select stylists and creators, echoing the IPL’s cricketer bidding process — complete with contracts, bidding wars, and team dynamics. The season will unfold episode by episode, with fierce fashion battles judged by top industry names and audience votes. Designed as a digital-first, immersive experience, IFGL will span OTT screens to red carpets, merging entertainment with innovation.

“This is for those who don’t just watch culture — they build it. For investors, celebrities, and brands who know where the next wave is,” Nanda says.

Each team will come with a 10-year license, revenue-sharing models, and IP branding rights — a business opportunity wrapped in designer packaging. Season One’s auction is slated for late 2025 in Mumbai. The stage is set. The teams are forming. And the world is watching.

From Vancouver to Vogue, Sandeep Nanda isn’t just building a league — he’s scripting a cultural landmark. And this time, India isn’t just participating in the global entertainment game — it’s setting the rules.

  • Palace of Vision: Step Inside Dayananda Sagar University Open House 2025

Palace of Vision: Step Inside Dayananda Sagar University Open House 2025

Harohalli (Karnataka) [India], August 4: What if we told you that college isn’t just about classrooms?

That a day at a university could feel like a festival of knowledge, culture, AI, music, and inspiration? That’s exactly what the Dayananda Sagar University Open House 2025 was, an unforgettable journey into the heart of what education can look like when it’s done with vision, soul, and celebration.

From the moment the guests walked into the Harohalli campus, the air was electric. Flash mobs burst into synchronized movement, echoing the high spirits of students from Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College and New Baldwin International PU College. With white tops and vibrant shawls, yellow for some, green for others,  the young visitors were instantly a part of something big, bold, and unforgettable.

And as Sia’s “Unstoppable” echoed through the grounds, the message was clear – today wasn’t about sitting still. It was about rising, reaching, and realising that the future is now.

One student from Bishop Cotton’s looked around wide-eyed and said “The infrastructure is magnificent.” A second PU student from New Baldwin whispered, “It looks like a palace!” And a science student smiled and said what everyone was thinking, “I just saw the campus and went… wow.

    Palace of Vision - PNN

That vibe continued as the crowd gathered inside the lecture halls. Supriya Mathew, Vice President of International Affairs, brought Dayananda Sagar University journey to life, from its roots in 1962 with Dr. Hemachandra Sagar and Dr. Premachandra Sagar, to today’s thriving campuses where AI, healthcare, and internationalization aren’t just buzzwords, but part of daily learning. “We’re moving from good to great,” she said,  a line that stuck with the crowd long after.

Supriya Johnson, Principal of Lawrence High School, spoke next, not about what AI could do, but what it already is doing. She talked about how her school has woven AI into the classroom to personalize content and support teachers.“AI has become a normal way of life,” she said. “We can’t deny it. It must be used in a resourceful manner.”

Voices from education only grew richer during the Principal Leadership Panel. There was Soumya N Prasad, Principal of Bishop Cotton’s, with her experience in literature and emotional intelligence. Dr. Shalini, Principal of City College, brought sharp academic insights, while Dr. Nusrath, Chairperson of Aryan Institute, emphasized how education must empower communities. B. R. Vasantha Lakshmi of The Oxford PU College and Mr. Raghu C. J. from New Baldwin shared thoughts on preparing students for an AI-powered world.

This wasn’t a discussion. It was a reflection – real, unfiltered, and deeply relevant. One comment summed it up – “If AI is a crisis, let’s make the best out of it.”

And then the real walk began. Students explored Dayananda Sagar University’s stunning campus, from smart classrooms to innovation labs. They saw what college could be not just structured, but alive. They asked questions. They took selfies. They imagined themselves there.

Because the Dayananda Sagar University Open House wasn’t just a day of events. It was a doorway into a future where learning feels like belonging. Where education is not just about marks, but meaning. And where every student deserves the chance to dream bigger.

This is what Dayananda Sagar University stands for and this is what we invite the world to discover. If you missed it this year, don’t miss it next time. Your future deserves this view.

Concept Medical Enrolls First Patient in MAGICAL-SV IDE Trial, Expands Coronary Program Globally

Tampa (Florida) [USA], August 4: Concept Medical Inc., a global pioneer in drug-delivery technologies, today announced the enrollment of the first patient in the MAGICAL-SV (MAGIcTouch Sirolimus-Coated Balloon for Treatment of Coronary Artery Lesions in Small Vessels) trial, a U.S. Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) study evaluating its MagicTouch™ sirolimus-coated balloon (SCB) for the treatment of small coronary vessels. This first enrollment marks a major milestone in the company’s mission to revolutionize coronary artery disease (CAD) treatment and expands Concept Medical’s clinical program into the United States and Europe.

The first patient was enrolled at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York by Dr. Samin Sharma, Director of Interventional Cardiology, marking a crucial step in advancing treatment options for patients with small-vessel coronary artery disease.

“Today marks a great feat for us and for the MAGICAL-SV trial,” said Dr. Samin Sharma. “My team at Mount Sinai is privileged to be the first to begin this study. This is a proud moment for all of us, especially knowing what the trial signifies and aims to achieve by evaluating MagicTouchas a potential alternative for treating small vessels in the U.S.”

This initial U.S. enrollment follows the FDA’s IDE approval of Concept Medical’s MagicTouch SCB and boosts the company’s broader coronary clinical program. Concept Medical is now actively enrolling in three IDE trials concurrently in the U.S., spanning across coronary and peripheral interventions and underscoring its commitment to bringing innovative therapies to patients worldwide.

MAGICAL-SV is a prospective, multicenter, single-blind randomized trial (2:1 randomization) comparing Concept Medical’s MagicTouch sirolimus-coated balloon to drug-eluting stents (Everolimus eluting stents [EES] or Zotarolimus eluting stents [ZES]) for the treatment of small coronary artery lesions. Randomization is stratified by study site and presence of medically-treated diabetes mellitus status. The trial will enroll 1,605 patients across the U.S. and Europe, to evaluate the primary endpoint of target lesion failure (TLF) at 12 months.

The MAGICAL-SV trial is led by an international team of renowned cardiologists, Dr. Martin B. Leon (USA) serves as Study Chair, with principal investigators (PI) Dr. Azeem Latib (USA), Dr. Ajay Kirtane (USA), and Prof. Antonio Colombo (Europe).

Dr. Azeem Latib, a U.S. PI for MAGICAL-SV, noted, “The first U.S. patient enrollment in the MAGICAL-SV study marks an exciting step forward in building robust evidence for sirolimus-coated balloon technology in the treatment of small-vessel coronary disease. As we explore metal-free PCI strategies, this study brings renewed hope for safer, more effective options for our patients.”

Prof. Antonio Colombo, who leads the European arm of the study, added, “Starting small and going big! MAGICAL-SV represents an important step in building evidence for sirolimus-coated balloons.”

This milestone embodies a “leave nothing behind” philosophy in coronary interventions, treating arterial blockages without permanent implants and addressing the limitations of metallic stents in small vessels. Dr. Martin B. Leon, the Study Chair, emphasized the significance of evaluating a no-stent strategy through this trial: “The initiation of the MAGICAL-SV trial marks an important step in evaluating sirolimus-coated balloon therapy for small coronary vessels. By addressing key limitations of stenting in this complex anatomy, the study aims to generate strong comparative data versus DES. The results could inform future treatment strategies in the U.S. and Europe, offering clinicians a potential alternative for managing small-vessel disease.”

With this pioneering trial, MAGICAL-SV is expected to yield compelling clinical evidence in support of sirolimus-coated balloon therapy. The outcomes will also support Concept Medical’s Pre-Market Approval (PMA) application for the MagicTouch SCB in small-vessel indication, potentially transforming the standard of care in coronary artery disease.

Dr. Manish Doshi, Founder and Managing Director of Concept Medical, said, “At Concept Medical, our unwavering commitment to innovation and patient care drives us to push the boundaries of what is possible in vascular interventions. The initiation of MAGICAL-SV reinforces our dedication to delivering next-generation, evidence-based solutions to clinicians and patients across the globe. Our ultimate goal is to transform the current standard of care and provide better outcomes and quality of life for patients affected by CAD.”
