  • A Student Guided by the Gita: How Mithilesh Khandwala Balances Science, Mathematics and Leadership

A Student Guided by the Gita: How Mithilesh Khandwala Balances Science, Mathematics and Leadership

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 20: A Grade 10 student at Adani International School, Mithilesh Khandwala is emerging as one of India’s promising young achievers in science, mathematics and economics. While his accomplishments range from national science recognition to global mathematics competitions, Mithilesh credits an unusual source for his focus and discipline—the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.

For Mithilesh, the ancient philosophical text is not just a spiritual book but a practical guide for daily life. He often reflects on the well-known verse, “Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana,” which emphasizes performing one’s duty without attachment to the outcome.

“Krishna does not tell Arjuna to step away from his battle,” Mithilesh explains. “He tells him to fight without anxiety about the result. For me, an examination or a science project is simply another battlefield. I focus on my effort and leave the rest aside.”

Mentoring Young Students Through the Gita

Inspired by this philosophy and guided by Gyanvatsal Swami, Mithilesh runs an initiative titled “Bhagavad Gita: Bharat ni Adhyatmik Virasat.” Through the program, he conducts interactive sessions for younger students, explaining the meaning of selected shlokas and connecting them to everyday lessons such as discipline, resilience, and integrity.

Teaching the verses, he says, helps him apply their message in his own life.

Gold Medal at the IRIS National Fair

Mithilesh recently earned national recognition at the IRIS National Fair held in New Delhi. The event, formally known as the Initiative for Research and Innovation in STEM (IRIS) fair, brings together some of the country’s most promising young scientific researchers.

Competing in the Earth and Environmental Science category, Mithilesh won the Gold Medal for his research project titled “Data-Driven Analysis of Energy Balance and Surface Flux Patterns over Indian Agro-Ecosystems.”

The study integrates satellite observations and ground-based data to estimate crop water requirements and analyze environmental processes affecting agriculture. The findings aim to support efficient irrigation planning and sustainable water management for farmers.

The research aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Per Drop More Crop” and contributes to global sustainability goals under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

His project was shortlisted among the top 30 entries nationwide and was considered for representation at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2026 in the United States. The research was later published in a SCOPUS-indexed academic journal, a rare achievement for a school student.

    International Recognition with CREST Gold

Mithilesh’s environmental research also received international recognition through a CREST Gold Award from the British Science Association. The CREST Awards program recognizes innovative scientific research conducted by students, with the Gold level reserved for the most advanced independent projects.

The award acknowledged his work on surface energy transfer characteristics across contrasting agro-ecosystems in India, highlighting the depth and originality of his research.

Among the World’s Top 5% in Mathematics

Alongside his scientific work, Mithilesh has also distinguished himself in competitive mathematics. In the 2025–26 American Mathematics Competitions (AMC), he ranked among the top 5% of participants globally.

The AMC is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious mathematics contests for school students worldwide, testing analytical reasoning and creative problem-solving rather than memorization.

    AIME Qualification

His AMC performance qualified him for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME), a highly selective contest open only to top scorers. Mithilesh achieved a strong score of 10 out of 15, demonstrating advanced mathematical reasoning.

“The Gita teaches you not to be discouraged before you even begin,” he says. “You simply work through the challenge, one problem at a time.”

    Perfect Score in AP Microeconomics

Expanding his academic achievements beyond science and mathematics, Mithilesh also scored a perfect 5 out of 5 in the Advanced Placement (AP) Microeconomics examination, reflecting his strong understanding of economic principles at an international level.

    Leadership Beyond Academics

Beyond academics, Mithilesh has also built a strong record in student leadership. He is a two-time prefect and has served as House Captain of Emerald House at his school. His achievements include the Student of the Year Award, first place in Hindi elocution, and recognition as an Exemplary Human Being.

He has also represented youth voices at national leadership platforms such as the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 and the School of Ultimate Leadership (SOUL) Conclave 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

Ancient Wisdom for a Modern Generation

Whether solving a complex mathematics problem, conducting environmental research or mentoring younger students, Mithilesh believes the core message remains the same—focus on sincere effort rather than outcomes.

By combining scientific curiosity with the philosophical insights of the Bhagavad Gita, he hopes to demonstrate that ancient wisdom and modern ambition can move together toward a values-driven vision of India’s future, echoing the national aspiration of Viksit Bharat 2047.

    • Age Shield feature to lock premium at the entry age until a claim is made

It also covers day care procedures, domiciliary hospitalisation, organ donor expenses, and emergency ambulance services, offering holistic financial protection during medical contingencies.

Speaking on the announcement, Dr. Tapan Singhel, MD & CEO, Bajaj General Insurance, said,

With MHCP EDGE+, we have built a plan that responds to some of the most relevant gaps customers experience today, be it rising medical costs, non-payable expenses, or the need for higher and more adaptable coverage.

What is equally important is giving customers the flexibility to shape their protection as their needs evolve, without making the product complex. Through a modular approach, we are enabling wider choices, better control, and access to quality care, including advanced and global treatment options. As an industry, our role is to make health insurance more relevant, transparent, and aligned to real life needs, and this offering is a step in that direction.”

Available for both individual and family floater options, MHCP EDGE+ offers lifetime renewability, policy tenures of up to five years, and coverage starting from as early as 3 months of age. The product also provides flexible waiting period options, a range of discount structures, and wellness linked benefits, positioning it as a flexible and future ready solution for customers seeking health insurance that can adapt to their evolving needs.

  • The Emerging Role of EV Risk Education in Two-Wheeler Insurance

The Emerging Role of EV Risk Education in Two-Wheeler Insurance

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 19: Electric two-wheelers are appearing in more neighbourhoods and on more routes, from short office commutes to daily errands. Many riders like the quieter operation, the running cost over time, and the convenience of charging at home or at public points. As this trend grows, insurers are looking beyond the usual policy features and paying closer attention to how clearly riders understand the risks that come with electric vehicles. In that sense, EV risk education is gradually becoming part of the core conversation in two-wheeler insurance, not just a side note.

    The Change in Preference

With a conventional scooter or motorbike, the discussion often centres on own damage, third-party liability, and a few familiar add-ons. When the vehicle is electric, the nature of the questions changes. Riders want to know how battery damage is treated, what happens if a charging incident leads to a fire, or whether an electrical fault is covered in the same way as a typical accident. Many of them are also comfortable using digital journeys and may choose to compare and buy new bike insurance online, which makes clear, well-structured written guidance even more important.

    Why are Electric Vehicles Favoured?

Electric scooters and bikes differ from petrol models in more than one way.

    • The battery pack stands out, but there are also controllers, power cables, chargers, and various electronic modules that react differently to heat, moisture, and impact.
    • If riders are not familiar with how these components behave, they may misjudge certain risks or find it difficult to understand specific policy clauses.
    • This is the space where EV risk education adds value. Simple information on safe charging practices, storage conditions, and precautions during extreme weather can help reduce incidents.
    • It also makes it easier to explain why some situations fall within cover, and others do not, always subject to the wording of the policy and the insurer’s evaluation of the claim.
    • Once people see the connection between their daily behaviour, the type of risk involved, and the coverage they have chosen, they can make more considered decisions about electric bike insurance and feel more prepared at the time of purchase or renewal.

    From Features to Clear Explanations

Insurance documents tend to use technical language and defined terms. For electric vehicles, additional expressions appear around battery health, temperature limits, charging cycles, and electrical safety. Listing these terms is not always enough. Riders benefit when insurers translate them into simple, everyday explanations.

Several themes come up repeatedly and usually deserve space in customer communication:

    • How standing water, heavy rain or flooding can affect batteries and electronics
    • Why non-approved chargers, cables or alterations can increase the chance of damage
    • The difference between a manufacturing defect, gradual wear and a sudden accidental event
    • How modifications and retrofitting may influence eligibility for particular covers

When such points are explained without unnecessary jargon, it becomes easier for riders to connect policy wording with real situations they might face.

    Building Confidence and Trust

For many riders, electric vehicles are still relatively new. Occasional news reports about fire incidents, sudden failures, or charging problems can create doubt. Clear, steady education about what the policy covers, what it does not cover, and what responsibilities lie with the policyholder can help reduce that uncertainty. Explaining the basic steps for reporting an incident, the documents that are usually requested, and typical timelines for assessment can give riders a better sense of what to expect, even though every claim remains subject to individual review.

Insurers with a strong presence in the market, such as HDFC ERGO, explain their EV-related offerings in a more accessible way. The intent is not simply to describe a product, but to help customers gain a practical understanding of how electric technology works, what types of risks exist, and how an insurance policy may respond across different situations within its defined scope.

    Conclusion

When a rider reviews options and eventually buys or renews new bike insurance online for an electric scooter or bike, the decision now reaches beyond simple premium comparison. It involves thinking about the technology under the seat, daily travel patterns, local conditions, and personal comfort with different levels of risk. Careful, ongoing education around these elements helps make insurance feel less like a formality and more like a considered support system for everyday life.

  • From Kanpur to Cannes: How Kalpana Shukla Turned a Small‑Town Dream into a Proud Moment for India

From Kanpur to Cannes: How Kalpana Shukla Turned a Small‑Town Dream into a Proud Moment for India

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 19: Kalpana Shukla’s walk up the Palais des Festivals steps this spring did more than add another celebrity image to Cannes 2026 coverage — it crystallized a story of persistence, craft, and national pride. The Kanpur-born dietician‑turned‑style ambassador arrived in a custom couture gown that merged traditional Indian artisanal techniques with contemporary silhouettes, and in doing so, she transformed a personal milestone into a moment many in India celebrated as cultural representation on a global stage.

    Humble beginnings, clear ambition

Raised in Kanpur, Kalpana’s early life was far removed from international runways. Trained as a dietician, she built a professional identity around wellness and body confidence while quietly pursuing modelling and public appearances. Her rise — from regional stages to being first runner‑up at Miss Universe UK 2023 and then a headline presence at Cannes — reads like the arc of a modern aspirational story: disciplined, deliberate, and visibly earned.

    A red‑carpet statement with roots

On the Cannes red carpet, Kalpana chose couture that read as both homage and reinvention. The gown’s sharply tailored structure and flowing, pearl‑dusted train showcased hand embroidery, mirror work and zardozi — crafts rooted in Indian textile heritage. Up close, the workmanship highlighted the labour of skilled artisans; at a distance, the gown’s metallic sheen and sculpted lines translated that craftsmanship into a language that resonated with international audiences and photographers alike.

More than fashion: representation and agency

Kalpana’s appearance mattered for reasons beyond style. Here was an Indian-born woman from a non-metropolitan background asserting presence at one of cinema’s most visible stages. Her disciplined physique and confident bearing — shaped by years in the wellness profession — reframed the gown from an object to a tool of expression. The result: a red‑carpet moment that read as agency, not adornment.

Cultural translation on a global platform

This was also a win for Indian craft in global couture narratives. Techniques such as zardozi and mirror work, traditionally seen in regional and bridal wear, were reinterpreted for an international red carpet without losing their artisanal identity. The collaboration between wearer and maker demonstrated how local handicraft can be adapted for global contexts while retaining cultural specificity — and how that adaptation can amplify national pride.

    A layered public identity

Kalpana’s story resonates because it is layered. By day, she is a health professional helping people build confidence; by night, she is an international style ambassador carrying her roots onto the world stage. That dual identity made her Cannes appearance feel authentic rather than performative: she wasn’t merely wearing couture — she was telling a story that began in Kanpur and reached Cannes.

    Why India felt proud

    • Visibility: A woman from a small Indian city featured prominently at a major international cultural event.
    • Craft recognition: Time‑honoured Indian techniques were spotlighted for a global audience.
    • Narrative of possibility: Her path—from dietician and homemaker roles often associated with traditional expectations to an empowered international presence—echoed aspirations across many Indian households.
    • Soft‑power for fashion: The moment reinforced India’s place in global fashion conversations beyond familiar celebrity circuits.

    Conclusion

Kalpana Shukla’s Cannes appearance was a succinct, modern story of aspiration meeting craft. It was not just a fashion win but a cultural signal: that talent from India’s smaller cities can manifest global ambitions, and that Indian artisanal heritage can be translated into contemporary statements of identity and pride. In stepping onto that red carpet, Kalpana carried more than couture — she carried a narrative of possibility from Kanpur to the world.
