  • IICA Northeast Campus: ₹100.95 Cr Move Boosting Growth

IICA Northeast Campus: ₹100.95 Cr Move Boosting Growth

New Delhi [India], June 3: With the purchase of land in Meghalaya to open its very first regional campus in the Northeast, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), which is a ministry of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has made history in an apparent attempt towards regional empowerment and decentralised policy leadership. This move is a sign of the Centre’s attention towards inclusive growth, corporate governance, and socio-economic transformation with an outlay of ₹100.95 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North-East Region (PM-DevINE).

The new campus in New Shillong Township will be a specialist regional centre, emphasising advanced research, specialised training, and focused policy advisory services in key fields such as competition law, corporate governance, ESG, CSR, and insolvency and bankruptcy. IICA’s strategic growth is not just infrastructural; it is also philosophical, representing a shift from Delhi-centric capacity building to a decentralised, trust-based governance paradigm.

A Strategic Step in National Capacity Building

The ceremonial land transfer, presided over by high-ranking officials from the federal and state governments, represents a more comprehensive concept of cooperative federalism. Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and Shri Donald Phillips Wahlang, Chief Secretary, Meghalaya, emphasised how the collaboration is aiding the national agenda, such as Viksit Bharat @ 2047 and Ease of Doing Business.

Higher government functionaries also attended the meeting, including the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Shri Inderdeep Singh Dhariwal, and the Director General and CEO of IICA, Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh.

Their involvement confirmed the initiative’s strong institutional support. Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh affectionately described the campus as “our first baby outside Delhi, a symbol of decentralisation and empowerment.”

His heartfelt remarks emphasised that this expansion is not just about the physical space; it beautifully symbolises IICA’s commitment to harmonising national development goals with regional aspirations.

IICA Northeast Campus to Catalyse Regional Growth

The IICA Northeast Campus is ideally situated in Shillong’s developing Knowledge City, which is already home to organisations such as NIFT, National Law University Meghalaya, and IIM Shillong. Knowledge sharing and collaborative innovation will be encouraged by this proximity to prestigious academic ecosystems.

Additionally, the new airport in Shillong is expected to enhance connectivity, making it easier for academics, professionals, and policymakers from across India to visit. It is entirely in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Transformation by Transportation” infrastructure-led development strategy.

Prime Minister Modi has frequently praised the Northeast’s diversity and potential by referring to it as the “Ashtalakshmi of India.” Accordingly, the Shillong campus hopes to establish itself as a cornerstone institution that produces morally upright leaders and conscientious companies that can support both local and national goals.

Supporting Local Aspirations Through National Platforms

The symbolic and pragmatic importance of this action was emphasised by Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. She said the success of cooperative federalism is demonstrated by the Meghalaya government’s support and proactive approach. By encouraging the shared values of discipline, focus, trust, clarity, and consistency, the campus is well-positioned to spur regional leadership.

Within the current fiscal year, academic and advisory activities are anticipated to commence, and construction is expected to begin immediately. Remarkably, IICA has already had an impact in the Northeast through prior training initiatives that engaged more than 300 professionals. By supporting regional policy frameworks and leadership development programs, the Shillong campus will expand this involvement.

All northeastern states are already represented in IICA’s ongoing initiatives, like the Independent Director Databank, demonstrating the region’s preparedness for further incorporation into national corporate governance frameworks.

A Long-Term Vision for Ethical, Regional Leadership

The Shillong expansion is intended to act as a long-term institutional anchor and is not a one-time project. Future partnerships with state universities and research organisations will guarantee that policy consultations and training initiatives continue to be sensitive to the unique needs and goals of the area.

Shri Singh reaffirmed, “This is a declaration of our steadfast faith in the future of the Northeast, not just a campus.” The project exemplifies the fundamental principles outlined in the Prime Minister’s development agenda, Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, a philosophy that equally emphasises cooperation, progress, unity, and trust.

The IICA Northeast Campus is a trailblazing example of decentralised excellence in a time when strong institutions and resilient leadership are essential.

This campus will be essential in developing professionals, forming moral businesspeople, and establishing legislative frameworks that support India’s 2047 vision as the area develops into a new growth engine for New India.

  • Revolutionizing Fertility Treatments: How AI and Genetic Testing Are Improving IVF Success Rates

Revolutionizing Fertility Treatments: How AI and Genetic Testing Are Improving IVF Success Rates

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 3: Infertility affects millions of couples worldwide, and while in vitro fertilization (IVF) has provided hope, success rates have traditionally varied. Many couples face multiple IVF cycles before achieving a successful pregnancy. However, with the advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), fertility treatments are becoming more precise, leading to higher IVF success rates and healthier pregnancies.

Dr. S. Vyjayanthi, a leading Fertility Specialist and Director of MotherToBe Fertility Centre, discusses how these groundbreaking innovations are transforming the field of reproductive medicine.

The Role of AI in IVF Treatments

Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing IVF by improving accuracy in embryo selection, ovarian stimulation monitoring, and sperm analysis.

    AI in Embryo Selection

One of the most critical steps in IVF is choosing the healthiest embryo for implantation. Traditionally, embryologists assess embryos visually under a microscope, relying on subjective judgment. AI enhances this process by:

    • Analyzing thousands of embryo images to detect subtle differences that the human eye might miss

    • Predicting embryo viability based on morphology, developmental patterns, and genetic health

    • Reducing implantation failures by selecting the embryos with the highest potential for successful pregnancy

AI-powered systems use machine learning algorithms trained on large datasets of embryo images. These systems assign an embryo grading score, helping embryologists choose the embryo with the highest implantation potential.

    AI in Ovarian Stimulation Monitoring

Before egg retrieval, ovarian stimulation is required to encourage the growth of multiple follicles. However, the right dosage of medications is crucial to prevent complications such as Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). AI plays a key role by:

    • Monitoring hormone levels and follicular growth to predict the optimal trigger time

    • Personalizing medication doses based on real-time patient data, ensuring safer and more effective ovarian stimulation

    • Reducing medication side effects and improving egg retrieval outcomes

    AI in Sperm Analysis

Male factor infertility contributes to nearly 50 percent of infertility cases. Traditional sperm analysis relies on manual assessments, but AI-powered sperm analysis offers:

    • More precise evaluation of sperm motility, morphology, and concentration

    • Enhanced selection of high-quality sperm for fertilization in IVF or ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)

    • A better understanding of sperm DNA fragmentation, which can impact embryo development

AI-driven sperm selection allows fertility specialists to make informed decisions, maximizing the chances of conception.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) in IVF

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is transforming IVF success rates by ensuring genetically normal embryos are selected for transfer.

Types of PGT and Their Role in IVF

    • PGT-A (Aneuploidy Screening): Screens embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome and Turner syndrome. This reduces the risk of implantation failure and miscarriage.

    • PGT-M (Monogenic Disorders): Screens for inherited single-gene disorders, such as Cystic Fibrosis and Sickle Cell Anemia, helping parents with genetic conditions have healthy children.

    • PGT-SR (Structural Rearrangements): Identifies chromosomal translocations that may cause recurrent miscarriages or failed implantation.

During IVF, a few cells from a developing embryo are biopsied and tested before implantation. This ensures that only genetically normal embryos are transferred, improving pregnancy outcomes and reducing the risk of miscarriage.

How AI and PGT Are Increasing IVF Success Rates

The combination of AI-powered embryo selection and Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) has significantly improved IVF success rates by:

    • Improving embryo quality and selection accuracy

    • Reducing IVF failure rates and miscarriages

    • Enhancing personalized treatment approaches

    • Minimizing the risks of multiple pregnancies by supporting elective single embryo transfer (eSET)

According to Dr. Vyjayanthi, “The integration of AI in embryo selection and PGT has transformed the success rates of IVF, making treatments more precise, personalized, and patient-friendly. At MotherToBe, we combine the latest AI-driven tools with genetic testing to maximize success rates and offer couples a better chance of achieving parenthood.”

Who Can Benefit from AI and PGT in IVF?

These technologies are particularly beneficial for:

    • Women over 35 years of age experiencing low ovarian reserve

    • Couples with a history of multiple failed IVF cycles

    • Women with recurrent pregnancy loss

    • Couples with a known genetic disorder (e.g., Thalassemia, BRCA mutation)

    • Male infertility cases requiring advanced sperm selection techniques

At MotherToBe Fertility Centre, AI-powered embryo selection and PGT are used to enhance precision and improve IVF success rates.

Future of AI and Genetic Testing in Fertility Treatments

The future of fertility treatments looks promising, with continuous advancements such as:

    • AI-powered embryo culture monitoring using time-lapse imaging

    • Advanced sperm sorting techniques using AI-driven microfluidic chips

    • Non-invasive genetic screening (NIPGS), eliminating the need for embryo biopsy

With ongoing research and technological advancements, AI and genetic testing will continue to enhance reproductive medicine, offering new hope to couples worldwide.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence and Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is revolutionizing IVF treatments, improving success rates, and reducing genetic risks.

For those struggling with infertility, these cutting-edge advancements provide a path to parenthood with greater accuracy and confidence.

If you are considering IVF, consult with Dr. Vyjayanthi at MotherToBe Fertility Centre, a leader in AI-assisted fertility treatments and PGT-based embryo selection.

Guyana Baby Receives Life-Changing Cochlear Implant at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 3: Baby Lavanya, a 9-month-old from Guyana, South America, born with profound hearing loss, has successfully undergone a complex cochlear implant surgery at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad. The procedure was made possible through the efforts of the Society to Aid the Hearing Impaired (SAHI) and the Sri Satya Sai organization. Previously declined by multiple international centers due to a rare inner ear deformity, Lavanya’s case was accepted by Apollo’s expert ENT team, who carried out the surgery on May 17. The baby is now recovering well and beginning her journey toward hearing and speech.

In a remarkable story of resilience, hope, and international collaboration, Baby Lavanya, born on August 7, 2023, in Guyana, South America, has successfully undergone a complex cochlear implant surgery at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad. Dr. K. Rambabu, Sr.Consultant ENT Surgeon Apollo Hospitals said the family explored options in neighboring Brazil, Venezuela, the United States, and Canada, but financial constraints made treatment in these countries unattainable. Appeals to charitable organizations in North America were unsuccessful, leaving the family desperate for a solution.

Their search for hope led them to the Sri Satya Sai organization in Guyana, which connected them to Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, and the Society to Aid the Hearing Impaired (SAHI) in India. Recognizing the complexity and urgency of the case, Apollo Hospitals took on the challenge through SAHI’s Hearing Impaired Girl Child Project.

The surgery was carried out successfully on May 17, 2025, by Apollo Hospitals’ distinguished ENT and cochlear implant team, led by Dr. E.C. Vinaya Kumar, Dr. K. Rambabu, and Dr. Jaswinder Singh Saluja, and supported by implantation audiologist Dr. I. Srikanth. Nagpur Sets Milestone with First-Ever Triple Non-Surgical Heart Valve Replacements in a Single Day

Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], June 3: In a first for Nagpur, a remarkable milestone in cardiac care was achieved as three transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedures were successfully completed in a single day at Arneja Heart Institute. This achievement, led by Dr. Jaspal Arneja and supported by his clinical team, underscores the growing capabilities of regional centres in delivering advanced structural heart therapies. The procedures utilized a Made-in-India balloon-expandable TAVI system, increasingly recognised for its precision and adaptability in managing complex anatomical challenges. While the medical team acknowledged the pivotal role of evolving indigenous technologies in enabling such outcomes, they emphasized the collaborative expertise required to carry out high-risk interventions within tight timelines.

In a single day, three patients—a 54-year-old woman with a critically narrowed valve and reduced heart function, a 78-year-old man, and an 85-year-old woman with a congenital bicuspid valve—were given a new lease on life through minimally invasive heart valve replacement. All had been suffering from severe breathlessness and declining cardiac function.

This advanced procedure was performed without any surgery or stitches, using a single puncture technique to insert a catheter — making it a truly minimally invasive approach. The successful cases were carried out by a distinguished team of doctors: Dr. Jaspal Arneja, Dr. Vivek Mandurke, Dr. Amar Amale, and Dr. Mohajit Arneja, whose combined skill and experience made this clinical achievement possible.

This series of interventions is being viewed as a landmark in local cardiac care, reflecting the growing strength of tier-2 cities like Nagpur in delivering cutting-edge, patient-centric cardiac treatments.
