The “Sanjhi Sanjh Connect Abhinandan” Program Strengthens Generational Bonds: Actor Anang Desai Participated

New Delhi [India], March 22: HARIKRIT, in association with Bharat Vikas Parishad, organised a warm and emotional event, “Sanjhi Sanjh Connect Abhinandan”, in New Delhi, aimed at paying tribute to the wisdom of elders and strengthening the bond between generations. The event saw eminent dignitaries, artists and members of civil society gather to recognise and uphold the values of respect, dialogue and inclusion of older citizens in the social mainstream.

Held on March 21 at the NCUI Auditorium, August Kranti Marg, New Delhi, the event was honoured by prominent personalities such as the renowned actor Anang Desai; Prof. Dr Mahesh Verma, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University; and Mrs Jyotika Kalra is Ex-Member NHRC. The presence of these personalities lent a touch of distinction to the event, reiterating the significance of community and cultural values.

Delivering the address on the occasion, Rajeev Anand, President of Harikrit, thanked the huge response the initiative has been receiving. “This is a matter of pride for us. We feel that each interaction with our elderly is a chance to learn valuable lessons in life. The ‘Saanjhi Saanjh’ initiative aims at providing platforms for such interactions,” said Anand. His words repeated the very heart of the mission of the programme—to create a culture of respectful exchange and serious dialogue between the generations.

Indian actor Anang Desai, who has been famous for his versatility in acting in Indian films and television, also contributed his ideas during the occasion. He praised the efforts of Harikrit to return the elderly to prominence in a rapidly changing world. “We are in times where very frequently the elderly get lost in the midst of changing technology and lifestyles. Programs such as these encourage us to slow down and reconnect with the people who have formed us and our society,” Desai added.

Prof. Dr Mahesh Verma stressed the significance of empowering old people. ‘Saanjhi Saanjh’ is a very beautiful concept because it promotes the elderly playing an active role in society. We pay greater respect to parents and seniors in India than any other country does,” he stated.

NHRC ex-member Jyotika Kalra emphasized the legal and ethical obligation of society toward its elderly.

A video message from Shri Suresh Jain, National Organising Secretary, Bharat Vikas Parishad, was shared in his absence, which emphasised motivating youth to be sensitive and caring towards senior citizens. The “Saanjhi Saanjh Connect Abhinandan Program” also included cultural performances and honoured the life stories and achievements of senior citizens. The ambiance was one of appreciation, learning, and respect for each other, as the participants had conversations on how society could become more inclusive and sympathetic towards its ageing population.

Harikrit premiered a film that talks about the emotional and vulnerable side of our senior citizens, ‘A Muffled Silence – Ye Aawazein’.

In the process of creating reading content for senior consumption, the galaxy released the fourth edition of ‘Saanjhi Saanjh’, a short story collection authored by Dr JV Manisha Bajaj.

As the event drew to a close, Sh. DK Bajaj, Sh. Tarsem Antil, Dr. JV Manisha Bajaj, Smt. Vijay Laxmi Sinha, Mrs. Pallavi Bhardwaj and Sh. Krishna Rao thanked the attendees and floated a drive that induced a renewed commitment to honouring and supporting the elderly with a motto: “Let’s sow some goodness to reap some love.

  • MGL Aarogya Programme Empowers 2,000 Rural Women in Raigad with Cervical Cancer Awareness and Screening

MGL Aarogya Programme Empowers 2,000 Rural Women in Raigad with Cervical Cancer Awareness and Screening

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 21: In a significant step towards women’s healthcare, the Science and Technology Park, Pune, in collaboration with its incubatee company AyuGen Biosciences Private Limited, has successfully implemented a Cervical Cancer Awareness and Screening Programme for 2,000 rural women from the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The initiative, supported by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), Mumbai, under the MGL Aarogya Programme, aims to promote early detection and prevention of cervical cancer among underserved communities.

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer affecting women in India, with a particularly high incidence among those aged 25 to 50 years. Notably, rural regions report some of the highest rates of this preventable disease. Every year, India accounts for nearly 130,000 new cases and 74,000 deaths due to cervical cancer. Given its asymptomatic nature in early stages, early detection through screening programs is critical in reducing mortality rates.

Dr. Rajendra Jagdale, Director General & CEO, Science and Technology Park, Pune, emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating, “Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers where the cause is known and prevention is possible if detected at an early stage. Timely support from Mahanagar Gas Limited has allowed us to make a real impact in rural Maharashtra by bringing life-saving awareness and screening to thousands of women.”

The programme utilized the HPV test, a USFDA-approved method with over 90% median sensitivity for detecting pre-cancers. The Cobas HPV test, which identifies 14 high-risk HPV types, was conducted across 15 locations in Raigad, reaching out to more than 50,000 women through awareness efforts promoted via print and social media.

Out of 2,039 samples collected and tested82 women (4.02%) were found to be HPV-positive. The highest prevalence was observed in regions including Alibaug, Pen, Panvel, Neral, and Uran, with an average age of 40.3 years among positive cases. Women who tested negative do not require screening for the next 4-5 years, significantly reducing unnecessary medical interventions.

Mr. Susanta Kumar Raut, Chief Manager CSR, Mahanagar Gas Limited, highlighted the corporate social responsibility efforts behind the initiative, stating, “MGL Aarogya Programme is committed to ensuring accessible healthcare for underserved communities. By supporting this cervical cancer awareness and screening drive, we aim to safeguard the health and well-being of thousands of women, empowering them with knowledge and early diagnosis.”

All 82 HPV-positive women identified during the screening programme have been provided with follow-up testing and treatment support. They will undergo repeat testing after a year to ensure continued monitoring and early intervention. The initiative has not only saved lives but also prevented the financial and emotional strain that late-stage cancer diagnosis can bring to families.

Mr. Ashu Shinghal, Managing Director, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), stated that with the continued support of Mahanagar Gas LimitedScience and Technology Park, Pune along with its incubatee company AyuGen Biosciences Pvt. Ltd., the initiative is set to expand its outreach, bringing hope and healthcare to even more women across Maharashtra.

Mr. Vaibhav Nimgire, Assistant Manager, Science and Technology Park, Pune, further added, “Prevention and early detection are the key to combating cervical cancer. Through this programme, we have ensured that women in remote villages receive the necessary information and medical support, reinforcing our mission to bridge the healthcare gap in rural India.”

The programme concluding event was held at Neel Clinic, New Panvel. Mr. Manish Pungliya, Founder & Director, AyuGen Biosciences Pvt. Ltd and Dr.(Mrs) Shubhada Neel were present on this occasion.

  • MANTRA Hosts Seminar On Electrical Safety Awareness To Safeguard Surat’s Textile Markets

MANTRA Hosts Seminar On Electrical Safety Awareness To Safeguard Surat’s Textile Markets

Surat (Gujarat) [India], March 21: In response to the devastating fire incidents in Surat’s textile markets, The Man-Made Textiles Research Association (MANTRA) organised an Electrical Safety Awareness Seminar on March 13. The seminar aimed to educate traders and authorities on the importance of electrical safety and the need for regular audits to prevent such tragedies.

The seminar follows the fire accidents at Shivshakti Textile Market, where two major blazes occurred within 24 hours last month, causing damages worth crores of rupees and resulting in the loss of one life. The incidents have raised serious concerns regarding electrical safety standards in Surat’s textile markets.

Speaking at the seminar, MANTRA President Rajnikant Bachkaniwala emphasised the crucial role of electrical audits in preventing fires.

“MANTRA has been conducting electrical safety audits for years, providing reports to major industries and units in Hazira. However, it is unfortunate that despite our presence, textile traders have not come forward for electrical safety audits. Many traders fear the additional cost, but if an entire market participates, an audit can be conducted for just Rs. 6,500 per shop,” he said.

He stressed the importance of preventive measures, highlighting that most fire incidents occur due to short circuits, overloading, faulty wiring, and overheating.

“Fires do not ignite on their own and can be prevented. In Shivshakti Market, an overloaded circuit in one shop led to a blaze that engulfed the entire market. Given that textile markets store highly flammable materials, traders must prioritise electrical safety and conduct regular audits to mitigate such risks,” he added.

FOSTTA (Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association) President Kailash Hakim also addressed the gathering and expressed concerns over the outdated electrical infrastructure in the city’s textile hubs.

“Most textile markets on Ring Road are over 30 years old, with wiring systems that are no longer adequate for today’s electricity load. Traders must take proactive steps and engage MANTRA engineers for electrical audits to prevent future disasters,” he said.

He also called for stricter regulations on new electrical connections saying power distribution companies like DGVCL and Torrent Power should mandate an electrical safety audit report before issuing new connections. He said this would ensure that markets meet necessary safety standards and help prevent fire outbreaks.
