Dr Masooma was conferred with the award by famous Television Actress Pooja Gor.

This is not the first time Dr Masooma has been bestowed with such honours. The skilled healthcare professional has bagged many awards and accolades for her outstanding contribution in physiotherapy. She has won the “Best Physiotherapist in Mumbai” award at Women Iconza second time in a row. Last year she was felicitated by Vinayak Rahut (Member of Parliament).

As an internationally known physiotherapist, Dr Masooma’s unique treatment style kept her up in dealing with cases. She graduated from Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences as a University Topper and established her clinic under the name of Dr Masooma’s Advanced Physiorehab in Mumbai in 2013 where she aims to turn “Pain into Comfort” and help her patients restart their life in a better and healthy way. Many challenges accompany my long journey of success. However, what motivates me is Turning Setbacks into Comebacks.” She believes that there is no force equal to a woman who is determined to rise. She further gave a message to all young aspiring Physiotherapists, “Each day is a new chapter in the book of your life journey, so make each moment worthwhile. People should remember that success is not a destination; it’s a journey. Always think that your journey has just begun.”

Dr. Masooma’s passion for her profession has constantly kept her in touch with the recent advances in her field. Tracing it back to the days when Physiotherapy was not well known than today, it was a roller coaster ride. During her initial career days, it was a daunting task for her to make people understand the importance of Physiotherapy. Today people consider a good physiotherapist their first point of contact for any aches and pains and believe that they can surely help. Trust in the eyes of her patients makes her journey worthwhile. The contentment of gifting thousands of people their normal lives back is what keeps the doctor motivated.

Dr. Masooma has been working since mid 2012 and this year marks a decade into the profession for her. She is a perfect example of an empowered woman. Dr. Masooma says that she would like to thank the strong women in her life who have been an example for her. My mom – who has taught me what dedication is all about. She has been the perfect mother, wife, daughter and grand mother. She has always kept her family as her priority. She has supported me at every juncture of life and it’s only because of her I am where I am today.

My Nani who taught me about being disciplined in life. My Dadi who was an extremely strong woman with a strong point of view. My Masi who has always taught me what independence is all about. I have seen her start her life independently and realised if a woman wants she can do anything in life. My sisters who have been by my side through all ups and downs. They are career oriented and hard working girls and that’s what motivates me to keep working hard too.

And lastly MY DAUGHTER who I can’t thank enough. As a parent we feel kids should learn from us but trust me I have learnt so much from her. She has been my constant support system. Without her support and understanding nature I wouldn’t have been able to achieve even a little of what I have. She is my driving force, my strength, my oxygen.

Experiences of few students, about Impact of Lockdown / Pandemic on education

Harsh Salunkhe from DAV Public School, Airoliwho has recently joined VRaZ, said that they had tough time studying during Covid lockdown, as they had to adapt to technology very quickly and also get adjusted to home routine and parallel focus on studies.

Harshita Nere from DAV Public School, Thanecurrently preparing for JEE from VRaZ says Interaction between classmates and teachers was the most affected which made understanding concepts a bit slower than that of offline classes. Concepts took a bit more time to study clearly than what it used to take earlier. Moreover Atmosphere was also a hindrance in studies but study hours increased as compared to what it would have been in offline classes.

Ashank Vermani, from Singhania School, Thane, who has joined VRaZ, missed the sports period during lockdown, also felt just being at home and studying was kind of boring with no friends around.

Parth Bagwe Billabong High International School, who joined VRaZ says, pandemic was a blessing and a curse for me. It was fatiguing at first, but later, waking up 5 minutes before the class started and hastily turning on my laptop became routine. The pandemic opened doors to many new ways of educating ourselves. Although we lost physical touch with our teachers, it gave us the time to pursue our hobbies, it made us tech-savvy.

  • Avalipt.com initiates It’s Just Blood campaign this Women’s Day to kill the stigma around menstruation blood

Avalipt.com initiates It’s Just Blood campaign this Women’s Day to kill the stigma around menstruation blood

New Delhi (India), March 9: Avalipt, a custom fashion startup led by women entrepreneur  Shomby Goswami came with this unapologetic idea this International Women’s Day to normalise the stigma about period blood amongst men and society at large with the campaign – IT’S JUST BLOOD in association with@storysellercomics (Author, CAT India Topper, IIT B, IIM C).

Men wore avalipt’s blood theme designed handpainted shirts on the streets of Bangalore holding placards stating- it’s just blood, everyone bleeds, disrupt the disgust and its bloody time that we break the stigma. Period.

The highlight of the campaign was men coming up together in a circular formation around a woman debunking the myth and promoting – PERIOD BLOOD IS NORMAL.

This came as a thought-provoking idea to ensure that Avalipt won’t stay as a brand that sells clothes but also use the platform and the team associated with smashing social stigma. The existence of the brand revolves around the pursuit of identity, and that’s what they are promoting.

The men marched on MG Road, Brigade Road, and Church Street, Bangalore, an entire day to promote a simple yet strong message, i.e. IT’S JUST BLOOD! AND EVERYONE BLEEDS! They also stood on the road on a busy traffic day to ensure the message stayed loud and clear.

In their words- We are marching towards a transparent and accepting society where we are standing with women.

Avalipt is a power-wear brand that offers premium hand-painted clothing helmed by a woman entrepreneur ‘Shomby Goswami’, wherein it voices out to create and establish clothing with the pursuit of identity for men.

With this initiative and collection alongside, Avalipt wishes to build a concept culture of clothing for men who want to make a difference in society. With iBleed collection, we wish to make sure the men around the world can convey a simple message – it’s just blood! And everyone bleeds. Then why is it so shocking, taboo, or seen as disgusting when it’s menstrual blood? All the sales proceeds will go to an NGO supporting women’s rights.

  • Does The Commercial Kitchen And Food Industry Force Women Chefs To Take Leave On Their Periods?

Does The Commercial Kitchen And Food Industry Force Women Chefs To Take Leave On Their Periods?

Geeta Solanki Founder Unipads along with chefs at Unipads Adeli initiative

Women working as cooks in schools, temple kitchens, and restaurants are not allowed to work during their periods and suffer loss of wages. The Adeli initiative sheds light on the issue.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 9: Ahmedabad-based Unipads, which works to help underprivileged women maintain menstrual hygiene, has launched a campaign to address the taboo associated with women cooking during their menstruating days.

The campaign has been aptly named Adeli, which translates to touched or possessed, and is the term used in some remote parts of the state for women going through their periods.

“The practice of not allowing women to cook while they are menstruating is not only discriminatory but also has a large financial impact. Women who are working as cooks in schools, temple kitchens, and restaurants have to face loss of wages – in some cases up to a fifth of their income – because of this practice,” said Geeta Solanki, Founder, Unipads.

Unipads, which manufactures affordable reusable cloth napkins to ensure menstrual hygiene and works to address taboos associated with menstruation, has collaborated with Manav Sadhna of Gandhi Ashram and Saath NGO for the Adeli movement.

As a first step, Unipads launched a limited pop-up restaurant with the name Adeli and collaborated with women chefs, helps, and servers going through their menstruation days to run it. Unipads invited influential community members, change-makers, activists, and other prominent names to dine at Adeli and become a part of the change. Unipads also invited hotels, restaurant chains, schools, and temples to become a part of the movement by committing to support women having their periods.

The Adeli movement has been very well received. Sarovar Portico, with its 97 hotel properties, has supported the initiative, and so has Pride Hotels at all its 26 properties. Talks are going on other with hotel chains, schools, F&B companies, and commercial kitchens for their support.

“The support has been excellent, and we see some positive change, but there is a long way to go. We need to reach out to more communities, businesses, religious and social leaders, and most importantly, the women themselves and educate them about this taboo,” said Ms Solanki.

As a part of its broader outreach, on Monday, Unipads shot a documentary associated with Nini’s Kitchen to address the taboo. Some of the women cooked for the first time during their periods.

“Going ahead, we also want to engage with policymakers to ensure a framework is put in place to protect the rights of women to be employed and paid while on periods,” added Ms Solanki.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2022, I extend warm greetings and good wishes to the women of India and thank them for their contribution over the years to the development of our nation said, Shiv Shanker Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Gramin Vikas Trust.

Garmin Vikas Trust and its eminent Chairman Dr. Chandrapal Singh Yadav and Managing Director Mr. Rajan Chowdhry along with other Board members encourage women to explore the best of their capabilities to step ahead and progress every day to add feathers in their cap.

Shiv Shanker Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Grameen Vikas Trust said that I truly believe that the development sector and NGOs like us have a responsibility of implementing the gender equality and women’s empowerment agenda in every sector they work in. Participation of women in NGOs allows foraying into the social and political spheres which are not easily granted by the for-profit or public sectors. In my opinion, NGOs that work to alleviate the poverty and challenges faced by women in day-to-day life in various fields need women advocators, decision-makers, mobilizers, implementers, and program designers who are Women themselves to understand and bring better solutions. The government is today’s time is contributing significantly to women empowerment and we as an NGO have to bestow our best for empowering women. Gramin Vikas Trust creates more supportive pathways for women by acknowledging women in leadership roles, capacity building and training programs, formation of WSHGs through its programs, women literacy programs, formation of management committees with the compulsory participation of women at the community level, and women-centric programs to emancipate women at all possible levels.  https://gvtindia.org/

Gramin Vikas Trust as a national-level non-profit development organization has helped women to come out of their homes and stand up for themselves as well as for their near and dear ones. For example, when Gramin Vikas Trust started its operation in Assam as the Implementing Support Agency for Jal Jeevan Mission, no one was willing to come forward. As soon as awareness was created about consuming unhygienic water and its ill effects on health, more and more women came out of their homes voluntarily where only five women are required for Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance (WQMS) formation. In the Sivasagar district of Assam, we have created 43 nos WQMS and in the Chairaideo district, the figure is 31 nos. With time, women are very willing and responsible towards this noble initiative that not only assures them good health but also helps them come out of their homes, otherwise, most of them are stuck inside the four walls of their homes. This is how Gramin Vikas Trust has made sure women make space for themselves through the mission, informed Shiv Shanker Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Grameen Vikas Trust.

With the support of GVT, Reena Devi became a great inspiration to all the women by taking a step forward when she decided to transform the Self Help Group into a Farmer Producer Organization with the support of Gramin Vikas Trust as BRIJWASI GRAMIN FARMER PRODUCER COMPANY LIMITED to make her work come out even brighter. Rena Devi got a loan to get an expeller that helped her even more.  Gramin Vikas Trust initiated major activities of marketing of farm produce, value addition of Mustard oil, Spices by the name of Khushi for Brijwasi Gramin Farmer Producer company ltd and gave it exposure to a larger group of consumers.

Kamla Devi (37 yrs. old, decently educated, mother of two is a female SHG at Bagla village under IWMP-VII project of Hisar, Haryana. This SHG’s experience proves how rural women with the help of inter loaning/revolving funds can organize themselves and run small business activities with the support of Grameen Vikas Trust. The group was formed in the year 2013 with a membership of 11 women. Smt. Kamla Devi (37 yrs. old, decently educated, mother of two) is the head and leader of this business activity. She has managed to involve 5 other members of the SHG who work at Kamla’s house for 4-5 hours daily. All the members decided to conduct meetings once a month and that each member would deposit an amount of Rs. 100/- per month. Later, an account in the name of the SHG was opened at Sarv Haryana Gramin bank, Bagla so that the members can take loans when needed. The SHG members mainly are engaged in handloom weaving work.
