  • “The Last White Man in India” Becomes a Surprise Hit

“The Last White Man in India” Becomes a Surprise Hit

New Delhi (India), February 10: India is a land of enchantment and mysteries. The more you explore, the better you fall for it. If you are wondering how to know more, you have to read more.

Books have always been an integral part of our lives, since ancient times, and guess what? With the emergence of a better and more aware world, people are slowly understanding how books can teach them about a multitude of things.

The Last White Man in India, written by Subhuti Anand Waight, has been launched at Marshall’s Book Café, Berman Chouk, Aundh, Pune on 29th January. The book has become a hit and now there’s a waitlist to read it.

This book offers you a great story with the promise of finding deeper things hidden within you. In a way, you can work upon the “unknown” quadrant of the Johari Window, enhancing your understanding of yourself and others.

Steve Parkhurst is an arrogant English businessman with colonial attitudes, enjoying an easy lifestyle in India. But then his company fails, and to Steve’s dismay, he finds himself begging for a job from a local Indian industrialist.

In this timely novel, titled The Last White Man in India, the tables are turned on the former conquerors. This reflects the shift in today’s global economy, with the growing stature of India and the decline of British power and influence.

This marks the beginning of a challenging journey for Steve, the main character, who steadily loses his English identity and becomes more and more intrigued with the ancient, spiritual aspect of Indian culture.

“I always thought that Pune’s Koregaon Park would make a wonderful setting for a novel,” explained Subhuti Anand Waight, author of this multiracial epic.

“I lived and worked in the Rajneesh Ashram in the 1970s when Osho was teaching there,” Subhuti added. “India is in my blood and bones, that’s why I had to write about it.”

There are secrets to be uncovered as the story unfolds. Steve falls in love with a wealthy Indian woman who reveals herself to be the leader of a Tantric cult, drinking Soma and dancing to ecstasy.

In a parallel subplot, the author recalls the rise and fall of the nineteenth century Thugee Cult, whose devotees robbed and slaughtered travelers in the name of Goddess Kali.

The Rajneesh Ashram also features in the story. “I just had to put it in,” reflected Subhuti. “It adds a spiritual flavor to the romance.”

Subhuti, born in the UK, once worked as a political correspondent in the British Houses of Parliament. He gave it up in 1976 to travel to India, meet Osho and become a Rajneesh sannyasin.

“Koregaon Park has an international flavor due to thousands of foreign visitors and this creates a colorful backdrop for story-telling,” he added. Subhuti is also the author of ‘Wild Wild Guru,’ a personal account of his adventures with Osho in Pune and Oregon.

The Last White Man in India is published by StoryMirror, India’s biggest literature tech platform, and is available in bookstores and online retail platforms.

  • US Born Indian Origin Racer Atharva Desai testing for Formula-3 Series in the UK

US Born Indian Origin Racer Atharva Desai testing for Formula-3 Series in the UK

    Atharva Desai, Arden Motorsports Team

India, February 10: Arden Motorsports Team has tested Atharva Desai, a Young Racing Driver Academy (YRDA) race car driver and offered him the chance to drive their official Formula car. Currently, in his second year at Oxford, UK, and pursuing his Bachelor of Engineering (Motorsport Technology), Atharva has garnered experience in the motorsport world by progressing from go-kart to Formula specification cars in a short period.

Atharva started his racing career at a young age and grew up watching Formula One on television. “I developed my interest in racing when I was eight years old when I first watched F1 on TV,” says Atharva. He started his career at a local go-karting track Allsports Grand Prix. After he learned the fundamentals of racing, he registered in the local karting league. Atharva went on to win the junior karting championship as a rookie post which he won the title in his rookie season in the senior karting league.

Atharva is fast and smooth; his racing teacher Mr. Françoise, the AllSport GP track owner, who was also a retired professional racing driver, commented to Atharva’s father that “He drives like Sir Jackie Stewart.”As, he grew in racing, Atharva registered into karting endurance and heat races. He then moved up the ladder to his first ROTAX nationals’ race, in which he secured 3rd place as a rookie.

One of his most memorable races was a 3-hour iron man endurance race in which he started in P3 (3rd place on the grid) and then, in a short time, jumped to P1 and stayed there for till half time. After the halfway mark, there was a 10-minute break for refuelling the car. After that, the rain started to pour down, but the race continued. After the halfway grid start, he was in P1, but unfortunately, he was hit in the back by another kart behind him, and he spun all the way to last place. “It was unlucky, but I kept my head down and told myself that I had to get back to 1st place. I committed to it and raced my absolute best,” added Atharva. Atharva won the race with a large margin in that short period and even lapped other karts on the track.

A few years ago, a Formula 4 team owner, Momentum sports, reached out to Atharva to test out his Formula 4 car. Positive results came from this first test, resulting in team owners and opportunists noticing him as a potential new talent. After many tests days with various Formula 4 cars, Atharva was ready to compete in the United States Formula 4 championship, and he registered with a Formula 4 team.

However, the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and all racing was suspended until the following year. Atharva moved to Oxford, the UK, for college and searched for local Formula teams, where he found Arden Motorsports and asked if he could test with them. “They interviewed me and then put me in a racing simulator which mimics the exact force feedback as a Formula 3 car. I greatly impressed the team owner both with my maturity and my racing skills.”

East coast of USA, there are many karting tracks, and Atharva has raced many of them while competing in a karting club. He has raced from Pittsburgh down to Florida and gained good racing experience, and he has grown and improved his racecraft. After graduating from Formula cars, he drove on courses across the country. Atharva mentioned: “I drove Formula 3 cars on Sonoma Raceway in California; Formula 4 testing on Radford racetrack in Phoenix; Autobahn Country club in Chicago, Virginia International Raceway, New Jersey Motorsports Park, and Sebring in Florida.”

Atharva has had various racing experiences, from Formula series cars to Grand Touring Cars. “I have raced GT Mustangs and Dodge SRT Hellcats in the past. Both were solid experiences; however, I enjoy Formula series the most.” He practices his race-craft by training in Arden simulators and his simulator at home. “I spend a lot of my time in a realistic racing simulator […] cost-effectively perfecting my racing skills,” says Atharva, “such simulators provide an exceptionally realistic racing experience without the cost of car maintenance and track rentals.” In addition, Atharva spends a lot of his time practising in his simulator or training in the gym. Physical fitness and mental endurance are vital in this sport. “Racing cars require you to push yourselves to the limit, and your mind and body must be perfect for racing these cars consistently.”  Atharva spends around 2 hours doing physical exercises and mental endurance training every day. In addition, he keeps himself extremely fit by maintaining a balanced nutritional diet. “My biggest motivator for racing is to reach Formula 1. Ever since I was young, I always wished to be a Formula 1 world champion. This dream is everything I fight for, and I always make sure to put in my 100% effort towards it.”

  • Puneet Chadha to play for Hero I-League after successful comeback as pro footballer

Puneet Chadha to play for Hero I-League after successful comeback as pro footballer

February 9: When the going gets tough, the tough gets going, which is true about professional footballer, Puneet Chadha. After making a successful comeback to professional football, the 27-year-old is now looking to play for the Hero I-league. His love for the sport can be seen from the fact that he continues to strive in his struggle to make a great career in football.

As a kid, Puneet Chadha was always into different sports, which is what his mother wanted. He took up swimming as his first sport before moving to cricket. In fact, Puneet was kind of serious with cricket and played at a decent level. He then started playing football and got coached by his school coach. That is when Puneet realized that football was the only sport that he loved.

Puneet’s football journey started when he was in the Jamnabai Narsee school. During his 9th grade in the school, when Puneet went for football trials he got picked in the second best team. But, not getting to play even one game in the entire season demotivated Puneet and he did not go for trials the following year. Puneet got picked when he gave trials again in his 11th grade. As there was one team in the 11th and 12th, Puneet thought he might get an opportunity to play. But he did not until the last tournament.

That was the tournament of the year which was hosted by Puneet’s school for teams across India. His team was playing great and eventually won the tournament because of the winning goal that Puneet made. That kicked off his football career.

In 2012, Puneet started Lokhandwala Football Club his own Football club. From 2012 to 2016, he played for various Mumbai clubs which play for the city’s top division and trained with Air India. Puneet even trained with ISL as well as I league clubs, but did not get a contract from them. He finally increased focus on his game, after his club closed in 2016.

In 2017, Puneet went to Czech Republic for a trial with a 3rd division club. The experience Puneet got was something that helped him grow in his career. He was also offered a contract by the club. But, Puneet rejected the offer, as it was not large enough for even survival.

He then returned from Czech and took a long break from football. But the love of the sport never let him exit the race. Puneet then went for different trials, but got rejected in all of them. And although he was feeling low at the time, Puneet did not change his daily training routine. He finally got an opportunity at AU Rajatsan FC in 2020 which played for I league 2nd division.

During training sessions the coach started liking Puneet’s game and he eventually was going to get to play his first game of the season. Puneet then returned Mumbai, as the league got canceled. Because he didn’t play a single game in 2019-2020 football season no club wanted to take Puneet for 2020-2021 football season. As a result he had to train the entire year without a team. Puneet then started learning new things in life and one of them was stock market in which he started spending more time. Puneet’s life was now completely changed, but he still loved football.

Puneet says, “Your love for the sport shows when you don’t have a club but still train. In your head you know that no matter how hard you train you won’t play a professional game cause you don’t have a club. But you still train cause you love the sport and an athlete never gives up. Till the time you’ve told yourself you want to keep playing the sport as a professional you have to keep fighting, you have to keep training.”

His internal strength, self-confidence, and trust in God bore fruit one day when Puneet got a call from Rajastan United FC for a trial. He made it to the team as the trial went well. Puneet’s life changed once again and that marked his comeback to professional football.

He says, “I am thankful to RUFC for giving me this opportunity ,to believe in myself. I will give my everything to the club and make sure the club reaches new heights. One thing that I have learnt from my journey till now is that you have to focus on the things that are in your control and leave the rest on God. I am blessed to be a professional footballer and won’t take anything for granted.”

Puneet Chadha now wants to play for the Hero I-league and represent India, which is the dream of every athlete.

Puneet is grateful to Almighty God as well as his family for their support. He says, “I wouldn’t have made it this far without the support of my family. I am fortunate to have that.”

Puneet really has a bright future and a long way to go.

  • Fluctuating indoor humidity levels responsible for the spread of Covid-19 viruses!

Fluctuating indoor humidity levels responsible for the spread of Covid-19 viruses!

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 8: Do you know the indoor air quality too dry or too high in humidity in our homes, hospitals, offices, schools and other indoor spaces are the serious cause of concern for the transmission of the Covid-19 viruses? Lower air quality, with an imbalance of Relative Humidity (RH) levels, weakens the immune system, making people susceptible to getting infected.

Understanding the role of RH in the droplet spread of deadly disease, research analysts and indoor air quality experts at AMFAH India have developed an innovative technology that could aid in reducing the chances of transmissions, particularly in the indoor environment. Understanding the role of relative humidity in the droplet spread of diseases has helped them develop preventive measures that could aid in reducing the chance of transmission, particularly in indoor environment. The self-cleaning process of their innovation works best at a minimum humidity of 40 to 60% RH and is able to remove viruses from the body quickly.

At a time when the schools in the country are reopening and a large section of children are yet to be vaccinated, parents are a worried lot. According to the survey, around 36% of parents who have children attending school said that classes do not have good air ventilation, 41% of them have children who have their lunch indoors, which, the survey noted, puts them at a higher risk of getting infected with Covid-19. Why only schools, with people resuming offices and other such indoor set-ups being in more demand, the need for quality ventilation and good air quality indoors is the need of the hour.

Even Dr Shashank Joshi, task force member, Maharashtra state and leading endocrinologist has re-iterated the significance of controlling indoor air quality as an additional yet important aspect of breaking the chain in the air itself apart from the COVID appropriate behaviour which every human being has to get ingrained.

“It is a known fact that viral infections are easily transmitted when many people are in proximity to one another. However, it is Indoor Air that is too dry or too high in humidity that increases the risk of transmission as well as the survival of viruses. Transmission is most common in close range via droplets and airborne aerosols. We studied the scientific role of Ventilation Filtration Humidity in indoor environment and developed an innovative range of dehumidifiers to break the viruses and its chain” said Mansoor Ali, research analyst and indoor air quality expert, CEO at AMFAH India.

    About AMFAH India

AMFAH India, an industry leader in air treatment products has developed latest innovative Humidity Controlling Units (HCU)—based on the scientific role of Ventilation Filtration Humidity—to break the Covid-19 virus and its chain in the indoor environment after conducting a research to find out the air quality and it’s after effects on the environment. In fact, AMFAH’s research had identified very early that Covid is airborne. Mansoor Ali, CEO, AMFAH India who is an indoor air quality expert for decades now, has also joined the lead petition filed by Dr Stephanie Taylor from Harvard medical school to WHO in the first wave, ensuring COVID being acknowledged and declared as an airborne virus.
