Kerala, [India] : There is a well-known couplet by noted Urdu poet, Allama Iqbal, “Main Tujh Ko Batata Huun, Taqdeer-e-Umam Kya Hai! Shamsheer-o-sinan Avval, Ta’us-o-raubab aakhir!” Roughly translated, this couplet means, “The destiny of nations I chart for you; At first the sword and spear; the zither’s, the lute’s soft sighs at last.” Dr. Tasleem Ahmed Rehmani, national secretary of Social Democratic Party of India, is a well-known Indian politician, who lives by the thought behind this couplet. His political acumen makes him a popular voice that is taken very seriously as far his influence among Indian civil society and  Muslim community.

He is one of the most invited spokespersons for the community in Indian national media where he engages in intelligent rebuttals and persuasive arguments and has a both handed approach to put forward community’s interest and also balances national interests at the same time. Dr Tasleem Rehmani argues his points with data and statistics and inspires a consensus and conciliatory tone in debates.

Mr. Rehmani has been active in electoral politics right since 1998, starting as an analyst and grass-root level worker. In fact, it was in February 2004, through a research paper, that he predicted various electoral outcomes of Indian elections in the past 20 years. Rehmani is considered to be a astute political analyst and force. His brief stint with Samajwadi Party began before 2012 UP Assembly Elections on December 8, 2012 and lasted just for 8 months. Rehmani wanted to push the narrative where every party is for pro inclusive development.

This 59 year old physician-turned-politician also owns a nursing home in Jamia Nagar, Delhi. He has studied BUMS from the Delhi University. Rehmani is also a Special Invitee to All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). Being connected to AIMPLB, Rehmani is involved in a number of causes related to the welfare and upliftment of Muslim community in India.

One of his major achievements, though, remains becoming the Chairman of Mazharul Islam Secondary School. This is a 118-year-old historical, govt-aided Muslim school located in the walled city of Delhi, from where Rehmani did his schooling till secondary level. He is also a member of the high-power 5-member Steering Committee of Coordination Committee on Indian Muslims. Other institutions represented on this Committee are Jamat-e-Islami Hind, Jamiat-e-Ulema Hind, Muslim Majlis Mushawarat, Milli Council, Jamiat-e-Ahle-Hadis MPCI, etc.

This avid political force is also Chief Editor of the news portal Mission Urdu Weekly, launched in 1979 as a publication.

  • Vishvaraj Environment Becomes India’s 1st & Largest PPP To Complete Waste Water Reuse Project in Record Time During Pandemic Period

Mumbai, Maharashtra [India] : Rising urban population and growing industrialisation have taken a toll on water resources in India and rivers once worshipped have turned into sewage canals. The Urban Water Cycle and depleting water resources have called for an integrated approach comprising of Water Supply and Sewage Treatment with Reuse as the only solution to this looming crisis in India. In fact, 15,000 Million Litres of Municipal and Industrial Waste are released into the holy Ganga river every day and other rivers across the country are facing the same fate. Vishvaraj Environment Pvt Ltd has created a record of sorts by treating sewage water and reusing it in in record time in partnership with Nagpur Municipal Corporation during Covid period. The Nagpur Reuse Project, a PPP model has now become India’s largest waste water project as it involved collection of 200 MLD of sewage from rivers and augmenting a 100 MLD STP to 200 MLD with Reuse of treated water as final goal.

Nagpur, a bustling city with a 27-lakh population was consuming 700 MLD of fresh water daily roughly 80% translating to ~550 MLD converted in sewage. The only solution to this issue was treating sewage and REUSING it. Nagpur’s sewage flowed through three rivers cum drains viz. Pivali, Pohra and Nag. This polluted the famous Gosikhurd Dam, a source of fresh water and irrigation. The Hon’ble High Court on a petition ordered action to bridge the gap of sewage generation and treatment. For Nagpur Municipal Corporation, it was financially impossible to meet this requirement and hence took a PPP route focusing on Reuse of the treated sewage water.

Vishvaraj Environment Pvt. Ltd. was selected through a competitive bidding process for 30 years. Entire project was built though 100% private investment making it the largest and the first STP on PPP model. The real innovation was Reuse of this sewage treated water by the industry. MAHAGENCO, the state power generation utility agreed to using treated sewage at its two power plants.

Alongside a path-breaking policy by Ministry of Power made it mandatory for power plants across India to use treated sewage water, if available within a 50 km radius. The cost was allowed as a pass-through tariff by power plants making it financially sustainable.

Work on a 200 MLD STP and Reuse phase commenced in June 2018, with MahaGenCo going to use 190 MLD for its Khaparkheda and Koradi plants. The challenge involved laying a 1,500 mm dia pipeline through dense urban areas and crossing railway lines at six locations.  The project was completed 9 months ahead of its designated construction period of two years that too in the peak pandemic situation.

Mr. Arun Lakhani, CMD, Vishvaraj Environment expressed his views on the Reuse philosophy saying, “Water Sustainability is a term which should remind us all, how inadequately we are coping with these subjects. This is slowly becoming critical for humanity. The Nagpur Reuse Project was conceptualized keeping reuse as a central theme. The potential for reuse at Thermal Power Plants is 8 billion litres per day initially. Indian cities are growing rapidly and water supply to the cities already scarce. The reuse initiative would release fresh water for 8 crore people. Our cities will have to look for the newer avenues for water security and Nagpur reuse model can act as a torch bearer for the cities.”

The project proved to be a winner for everyone – municipality got a facility, city got its

future fresh water needs taken care off for 35 years and the power plants secured water supply. Citizens benefitted as sewage is treated and fresh water freed up.

For the remarkable execution of this path-breaking project, Vishvaraj Environment bagged the first prize at the FICCI water award 2020 held virtually on 16 February 2021.

  • Gvk Group’s Mumbai airport bags awards for fourth year running

Awarded’ Best Airport’ by ACI fourth time in a row since 2017

Mumbai, Maharashtra [India] : Even as the GVK Group prepares to exit the airports business, it’s jewel in the crown, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has been awarded the Best Airport by Size and Region, in the over 40 million passenger category, by the Airport Council International (ACI), for the fourth consecutive year. CSMIA was lauded for its dedication and commitment towards delivering superior customer experience by providing world-class facilities and services for its passengers in the midst of the most challenging year in global aviation history.

GVK Group focus in the areas of implementing state-of-the-art technologies, customer engagement activities and service excellence, has resulted in the CSMIA airport bagging the ACI award for Best Airport by Size and Region in the 40 million passenger category, every year, since 2017.

This achievement represents the passenger recognition and appreciation towards CSMIA’s initiatives in promoting service excellence and building strides in providing excellent customer experience to its passengers through the adoption of unique practices and digital innovation. Right from the outbreak of the virus, CSMIA upped the ante on the adoption of health and safety measures to curb the spread of the virus. While remaining operational during the nationwide lockdown to facilitate repatriation and cargo flight operations, the airport also worked towards setting forth SOPs for delivering a seamless and hassle-free passenger journey in anticipation of the resumption of commercial flight operations. Focusing on promoting a contactless journey, the airport expedited its planned developments and launched initiatives like introducing a touch-less feature via QR-code based technology to its self-check-in kiosks amongst others. CSMIA also undertook the ‘Restart Feedback Survey’ in a phase-wise manner to gauge passenger sentiments about flying during the pandemic and understand passenger expectations in the new normal.

CSMIA has always set a benchmark in delivering best-in-class services at the airport. The airport’s goal is to offer a memorable passenger experience by providing a high standard of safety, comfort and convenience for its passengers. Even before the pandemic, CSMIA had adopted several initiatives to enhance the self-reliance of the passengers and promote a seamless airport journey through the introduction of innovative technology. These included Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks for passengers to check-in and generate baggage tag themselves, Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) counters and e-gates that allow passengers to scan their boarding pass to proceed to the security check amongst others.

The airport was also recently honoured with ‘The Voice of the Customer’ recognition by Airports Council International (ACI), demonstrating the airport’s efforts in gathering passenger feedback to better understand their needs and preferences during the pandemic. Through keen observation, feedback and long-term vision, CSMIA consistently endeavours to provide an assortment of world-class services for its passengers and thus redefine the airport experience for all.
