Shabd.in introduces listing facility of books for sale – Primex News Network

New Delhi (India), May 4:Shabd.in’, an e-platform based dedicated tool for the writer community through for publishing their books and promote them online and earn money, has now introduced the listing facility of books for sale across the country. Any writer, who has got their book published from any publication, will now be able to list it on shabd.in for sale. In addition to it, the brand is preparing to make available all the books in nearly all Indian languages on their website for readers to purchase from. Shabd.in used to be a Hindi based website, and recently has added English language, making it a one of the very few bi-lingual literature websites in India.

Shabd.in was soft-launched in late 2021 and re-launched in March 2022, with additional features and various revenue models. The platform aims at serving as a means to bridge the gap of the absence of local language platforms in India where people could write freely and get their books published.

Shabd.in came into existence as Shabdanagari.com in 2015, where it was merely a social networking site in Hindi, founded by Amitesh Misra and Nikhil Tiwari. In September 2021, the social networking site was re-branded as Shabd.in with an expanded range of services targeted towards the writers in Indian languages. The platform was joined by another founding member, Santosh Verma, to further strengthen the functionality and vision. For its interactive model, the platform got approved by the IIT Kanpur incubation center and received seed funding to proceed. The platform is headquartered in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and has its branch office in Noida.

Shabd.in has different revenue and publishing models.

    1. Writers can publish their e-book on the platform for free and the users can enjoy reading their work without shelling a dime.
    2. Writers can publish their e-book and set a price on their work to earn 80% royalty on each sale, claimed highest compared to the competing publishers in the industry.
    3. Writers can also get their books published in paperback, promote them on the platform and get them listed on other platforms like Amazon or Flipkart as well.

For publishing the paperback edition, the writer is required to pay a one-time fee of INR 5100. An additional package available at INR 11,000 is made available with added benefits for the printing of the book like the addition of ISBN and listing on 3rd party platforms. For listing a book published by other publishers, 65% commission is paid to the writer.

Discussing the platform, MD & CEO – Shabd.in, Amitesh Misra said, “We are continuously adding more and more convenient features and options for the userbase and writer community of India so that no piece of creativity is lost due to the lack of resources or opportunities. With our new additions of listing facility, adding English to our website and further working on adding 20+ Indian languages in the coming months will certainly serve to the pressing requirements of the community.”

Shabd.in aims to become the biggest multilingual content platform in the vernacular space in India in the next 5 years, while keeping the exploitation of writers at bay. While the platform offers the highest royalty percentage for the sellers, it looks ahead to become every writer’s first choice to publish their work in their native language.

  • Over 90% consumers prefer buying trendier, fashionable and uniquely designed gold jewellery for every day – Primex News Network

Over 90% consumers prefer buying trendier, fashionable and uniquely designed gold jewellery for every day – Primex News Network

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 4: Melorra, (www.melorra.com ), one of India’s largest D2C brands, undertook a first of its kind survey called ‘Gold 2.0’ to understand the changing preferences of Indians when it comes to buying gold jewellery. The survey was released ahead of Akshaya Tritiya and was conducted amongst men and women from 30+ cities in India. About 46% of the sample size comprised people in the 20-29 years age group and 41% in the 30-39 years category.

While gold jewellery is pure love for most Indians, the survey brought out great insights into how and why millennials are buying their gold. A clear picture that emerged is that buying gold is still associated with culture and festivities as evidenced by the 61% who buy jewellery on occasions such as Diwali, Akshaya Tritiya and Dhanteras.

At the same time, more than 90% consumers are of the opinion that they would prefer to buy trendier, fashionable and uniquely designed gold jewellery to be worn every day over the conventional chunky pieces that dazzle only in the dark depths of lockers. In fact, almost 3 out of 4 (close to 73%) respondents said that they missed out wearing their gold jewellery simply because they had forgotten to take it out of the lockers.

Speaking about this, Saroja Yeramilli, Founder and CEO, of Melorra, said, “Even the pandemic hasn’t dimmed India’s love for gold jewellery. However, there is a clear cultural and perception shift among the younger generations of gold jewellery buyers. They see lightweight gold jewellery as a style statement and a form of self-reward. Women are earning and going to work, and as their roles have evolved, the desire to transform their wardrobe including the jewellery stashed in the lockers has also become stronger. These aspirations are uniquely intertwined with traditions like buying gold jewellery on Akshaya Tritiya. We are witnessing a consistent surge in demand especially from metros, Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. We want to ensure that what is auspicious today, becomes fashionable every day!”

Quality including BIS-Hallmarking stood out as the most important consideration for people while purchasing gold jewellery followed by the uniqueness of the designs. Price point continues to be another key factor with more than 76% people seeking gold jewellery priced under INR 50K. As gold prices soar, people are looking for affordable and lightweight yet trendy options.

Despite the rising prices and inflation, about 89% of Indians had bought gold jewellery for themselves before they entered their 30s. More than half of them are already wearing their gold on a daily basis and most others will follow suit if they get the right kind of lightweight gold jewellery options. Apparently, for modern Indians, bling is best when not laid to rest in a locker.

The survey found how people desire to get the ‘touch and feel’ of gold jewellery before buying it. This is where brands like Melorra offer a market winning combination in the Indian context in the form of harmonized retail. The company ensures that fashionable gold jewellery is available wherever the customer is.

Melorra offers lightweight and affordable jewellery (majority of fashionable gold jewellery demand coming from 20-50k price range). This way, they are ensuring that people can dazzle their Instagram feed and also make a style statement everyday through their exquisite gold jewellery. Only 10% prefer to buy in the 70k to 1 lakh range.

Melorra currently has a physical presence in Bengaluru, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bhopal, and Noida with the total number of stores standing at 11. The brand will also be expanding its retail footprints throughout India in the next few years. So far, Melorra has delivered to over 3000 cities/towns/villages in the country and made its mark everywhere – from villages with a population of less than 10,000 to cities with a population above 1 million. With its recently expanded delivery capabilities to the US, UK, Singapore, and UAE, Melorra is making sure that buying gold jewellery for occasions like Akshaya Tritiya is not just auspicious today, but fashionable every day!

  • Uniquely qualified’- John Coates drafted letter of praise for himself to Brisbane Olympics organisers – Primex News Network

Uniquely qualified’- John Coates drafted letter of praise for himself to Brisbane Olympics organisers – Primex News Network

New Delhi (India), May 3: John Coates, the outgoing president of the Australian Olympic Committee, drafted his own letter of recommendation stating that it was “hard to think of anybody better qualified in the world of sport” to be appointed to the organising committee of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Coates is Australia’s most celebrated official in the Olympic movement and a vice-president of the International Olympic Committee. He stood down on Saturday as president of the AOC after 32 years. He will become the AOC’s inaugural honorary life president after the 2024 Paris Olympics, when he stands down from the IOC. The life presidency role was written into the AOC’s constitution at last year’s AGM and Coates was formally awarded the position in March 2022.

An email sent by Coates on 1 April 2021, to Matt Carroll, the chief executive officer and vice president of the AOC, shows he drafted a gushing letter of recommendation that he be allowed to join the Brisbane Games’ organising committee when Coates becomes life president of the AOC. Coates asked that the letter be signed by Carroll and sent on to Peter Sheehan and Mark Cushing of BDO Consultancy, an accountancy firm involved in establishing Brisbane’s organising committee after it was awarded the Games. It is understood that the draft was reviewed and considered by Carroll before being sent. According to Coates the honorary position of life president does not carry any voting rights on the AOC Executive “but it will carry influence, if they want it, within the organising committee”. Coates has been heavily involved in Australian-hosted Olympics as president of the AOC, vice president of the organising committee of the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and deputy chairman of the candidate leadership group for the Brisbane 2032 Games.

The letter drafted by Coates for Carroll begins: “As you know, the Olympic charter and the Olympic hosting contract provide that the AOC should be represented at the Brisbane Ocog [Organising Committee of the Olympic Games] by our president, currently John Coates, and me as CEO (secretary general).

“After 31 years, John will not contest the presidency when his current term concludes at the AOC AGM in May 2022. So he will hold the NOC president’s position on the Ocog until then and be replaced by whoever is elected as AOC president.”

The letter goes on to note that “it is likely” that the AOC executive will appoint Coates as its honorary life president at some time in the future and urges them to include a position for the veteran sports administrator on the organising committee.

“I am attaching John’s long-form CV and particularly refer you to his Rowing, IOC, Australian Olympic teams, Olympic bids, Socog, Icas/Cas and other sporting events,” it continues. From these I hope you and the OCLG [Olympic Candidature Leadership Group] will agree that John is uniquely qualified to continue to add value to the Brisbane Ocog following the conclusion of his membership as an independent IOC member at end 2024.

“Indeed, it is hard to think of anyone better qualified in the world of sport. Accordingly, you and the OCLG are requested to include a position for AOC honorary life president on the Ocog commencing on the conclusion of his membership as an independent IOC member.”

On 25 March 2022, almost 12 months after the letter was sent by Carroll, Coates was appointed to the honorary life president role by the AOC executive committee.

In a statement, the AOC said: “The AOC members overwhelmingly decided in 2020 to change the AOC constitution to create the honorary life president role and the AOC executive unanimously agreed to appoint John Coates to the role on 25 March 2022. The role will not come into effect until after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“For clarity, the AOC executive may choose to appoint either the president or the honorary life president to one position on the Ocog, while the chief executive officer will be the other AOC representative. That will be a decision for the AOC executive after Paris 2024,” they said.

“For further clarity, the contents of the letter addressed to BDO Consultancy do not propose that Mr Coates be made honorary life president of the AOC. The letter proposes, as indicated above, that the role of honorary life president of the AOC could be included on the Ocog board after the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 and that John Coates would likely be appointed to that role.”

A lawyer acting for Coates said: “Mr Coates has not breached the AOC’s rules or processes, and we refer you to the AOC CEO to verify this.”

Ian Chesterman, who served as Australia’s chef de mission to six winter Olympics and is AOC vice president, will succeed Coates after defeating former Olympic swimmer Mark Stockwell by 67 votes to 26 in a vote at the AOC’s annual general meeting on Saturday. IOC president Thomas Bach, who travelled to Sydney to attend the AGM, congratulated Chesterman and hailed Coates, saying he was “leaving the AOC in a great state”.

  • How you can join Guria in its fight against sex trafficking – Primex News Network

How you can join Guria in its fight against sex trafficking – Primex News Network

May: Ajeet Singh was all of 17 when he first came to the rescue of a sex worker’s children. That was way back in 1988. For almost 25 years, he has dedicated his life to fighting child prostitution, trafficking of women and girls for sex and other second-generation prostitution.

“We do everything possible to rescue a girl and convict the brothel keeper and the trafficker. What will you do to take care of your own child? Won’t you hold them safe with both hands; do everything possible to protect them? Won’t you take a bullet for your child?” asks Ajeet Singh, Founder, Guria

The first significant experience of rescuing child victims of sexual abuse was in 1999 in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, when the children’s father was the culprit himself. Many people indulge in sexual exploitation because of supposed traditional practices among a few communities, and for economic reasons. In 2005, a rescue operation in Varanasi’s red-light area was able to free forty-nine women and girls, including minors, from different brothels. Many people were convicted in the case. With these cases, Guria established itself as the pre-eminent nonprofit in Uttar Pradesh working for the victims of sexual exploitation.

While Ajeet and his Varanasi-based organisation have saved over 5000 women and girls from sexual exploitation and slavery, made Varanasi’s red-light area the first child prostitution-free red-light area in India, and fought hundreds of cases in various courts against very powerful people without worrying about his own safety, the going has been challenging for the last two years.

Guria says that funds have been hard to come by because of the pandemic, and keeping the good fight has become increasingly difficult. Ajeet Singh needs your support to continue working and replicate a holistic end-to-end strategy to save and protect sexual exploitation victims, help prosecute traffickers and brothel-keepers and carry out witness protection programmes. In association with GiveIndia, India’s largest crowdfunding site, Guria has launched a fundraiser soliciting funds from ordinary people to meet its requirements .

Guria also provides education, food, vocational training and legal help for survivors against traffickers and brothel keepers.

Many survivors are grateful for Guria’s support. For instance, Ramala, a Nepali woman from the Varanasi red-light area says, “Sir ji (Ajeet Singh) has continuously been fighting for us, and now we are much safer from the tyranny of pimps, traffickers, brothel-keepers, criminals etc. We were brought as small girls in this hell, but thankfully, there are no younger girls in the flesh trade.”

Guria provides livelihood support for the survivors by training to work in existing businesses, like poultry, farming, tea shop, general store, vegetable vending, taking up new businesses like auto-driving, setting up flour mills, or even training them for government jobs. It also provides vocational training for survivors to become beauticians, nurses, electricians, photographers, caterers, and for other professions.

    Fundraiser on GiveIndia

In order to meet the expenses of Guria, the online crowdfunding website GiveIndia has launched a fundraiser for Guria. The funds raised will meet expenses, for books and stationery for children attending mainstream schools in red light areas, nutritional support, vocational training/livelihood support to at-risk children of the red light areas and vulnerable villages that openly practice prostitution, legal help to fight traffickers and brothel keepers in 21 focused districts and reaching nine states to rescue and awareness activities.

Hundreds of people from across the world are donating to the cause through crowdfunding. You can visit the site and donate to Guria.

    About GiveIndia:
