  • Ms. Romita Mazumdar, Beauty Entrepreneur & Founder Foxtale – Primex News Network

Ms. Romita Mazumdar, Beauty Entrepreneur & Founder Foxtale – Primex News Network

May 18: Skincare is a saturated market and as a VC you have more information on this. Yet what prompted you to start a skincare company?

Foxtale was born out of my trysts with the beauty industry – both as an observer and a consumer. Growing up, everyone I knew drew their idea of beauty from the beauty ads they consumed. This bothered me as these definitions were far away from what we could relate to.

As a VC, I evaluated more than 150 brands in the skincare/beauty space and observed a disconnection between consumers’ needs and the measures brands took to solve for them. That pretty much chalked out my intention with Foxtale- I had to create a brand that understood the modern Indian woman- not just their skin types but also their lifestyles, their relationship with skincare and what challenges they were looking for to solve through skincare routines. Most importantly I wanted to create a safe space for women to discuss not only skincare but their dreams, ambitions, and the little things that keep them going.

What sets Foxtale products apart from the competition?

Our community approach to creation. Our products go through extensive research and trials both inside the lab and in our community before they are launched in the market. We were the first skincare brand in India to conduct a Pan India Consumer Trial before the launch of our first range and this is a practice we will continue for all our launches.

Literally, the ‘tale’ in Foxtale comes from the skin stories of the 3000 women I spoke to even before the first product was launched. Their stories taught me so much more than all my research ever could. Most importantly, a good skincare routine is as much about simplicity as it is about efficacy. From then to now, this community has only been growing.

Each of our products is conceptualized after interviewing over 500 women both within and outside our community to understand their skin type, their routines, the skincare issues they wish to solve, the time, money, and effort they can spend on skincare and eventually the takeaway or impact they expect out of each skincare product.

This consumer study is then used by our formulation team to create products that solve each of the issues raised in the most efficacious and affordable manner. But that’s not all. Other than necessary certifications, we also conduct focus group consumer trials and lab trials which see the participation of more than 500 women. Only after 95% of participants of these trials agree to add the products to their daily routines we launch them on the market.

How has the shift been for you – from a venture capitalist to an entrepreneur?

People often think that because I have been a Venture Capitalist in the past, I’m well equipped to tackle the challenges of becoming an entrepreneur. But the truth is nothing prepares you for this journey. When you have no boss, the consumer is your boss, and they are the strictest of them all.

What helped me though was my interest in understanding a brand from the point of view of a consumer. As a VC I would use this as a key metric for evaluating portfolio companies. As an entrepreneur, I have carried out this practice of analyzing every activity at Foxtale.

One piece of advice you would like to give all women who are striving to nail their Startups.

I started Foxtale because I wanted to create a new wave of brands in India. Brands that created safe spaces for real conversations around beauty, self-care, and growth. If I can, so can you. Start something today – big or small and if you are an entrepreneur please remember three things – never shy away from taking charge of things, never doubt your ability to surprise yourself and everyone around you, and never think someone else can run your business better than you!

Laththi second look out- Action galore on the way – Primex News Network

May 24: Indian actor Vishal Krishna released the second look of his upcoming movie Laththi and is delighted with the response he has received in all languages. This big-budget film is Vishal’s 32nd film which is made for the audience in India and worldwide.

His best friends Nandaa Dorairaj & Ramanna have become first-time producers for this movie. The movie is directed by debut director Vinodh. South actress Sunaina plays the female lead opposite Vishal. The movie will be released in five languages – Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.

Vishal says “In this cop action entertainer, I am delighted to see myself in a completely different body language which is what I am really looking forward for the audience to see when Laththi hits the silver screens worldwide on the 12.8.2022. I play the role of a police constable in the movie which I have never portrayed before apart from playing a father to a six-year-old. I have been lauded for my action-packed performances all through my career but this movie is very unique. This is the only film so far in my career in which I have been bruised and injured the most while canning the high-intensity action sequences.

He adds “I am collaborating with one of India’s best action choreographers Peter Hein for the first time in my career. It was a different experience for me all together. As already mentioned, it is going to be firecrackers all the way since I have never shot an action sequence for so many days at a stretch. It has taken more than 60 days to shoot the last 45 minutes of the high octane climax action sequence.”

  • A toxic triple combination of conflict, weather extremes and the economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic risks decades of progress in health and development – Primex News Network

A toxic triple combination of conflict, weather extremes and the economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic risks decades of progress in health and development – Primex News Network

New Delhi (India), May 24: The world is seeing unprecedented levels of humanitarian crises. Conflict, weather extremes and the economic impact of COVID-19 are a toxic triple combination that threaten to undo decades of progress in health and social development for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable women, children and adolescents.

Delegates attending Lives in the Balance summit: Delivering on Commitments in Humanitarian and Fragile Settings called for urgent multi-sectoral investment to ensure continuity of health services and supplies during the pandemic response and recovery, with additional support for those caught up in humanitarian and fragile settings.

The Lives in the Balance virtual summit co-hosted by PMNCH, the largest global alliance for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health and CORE Group, brought almost 900 participants from more than 90 countries together to discuss the challenges to protecting the health and wellbeing of women, children and adolescents in the context of COVID-19 and increasing instability across the world, and the policies and financial investments required to provide continuity in vital services.

“The question we need to ask ourselves and our political leaders is what kind of a world order are we building for our children?” said Rt Hon Helen Clark, PMNCH Board Chair, and Former Prime Minister of New Zealand. “Is it a world marred by global health emergencies, climate disasters, famine, war, gender inequality and increasing poverty? Or a world as envisioned by the Sustainable Development Goals where universal health coverage, and a better and more sustainable future is the reality for not some, but all. Our meeting sends a powerful message: Lives are in the balance. We do not accept that women and children must bear the burden. We bear witness and we are resolved to resist – to speak out with one voice for a more equitable and peaceful world. This is what the fourth Lives of the Balance is about.”

Approximately one-fifth of the world’s population of women and children live in countries experiencing armed conflict, with a record 56 active conflicts documented in 2020. According to the Global Humanitarian Overview for 2022, the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance globally has increased to 274 million people this year, breaking the record high of 235 million people set in 2021. Maternal mortality increases by 11% on average and 28% in relatively more intense conflicts, relative to conflict-free periods.

Fragile regions with already high poverty rates and precarious economic structures have been hit much harder than others by the COVID-19 pandemic. About 97 million more people are living on less than $1.90 because of the pandemic, increasing the global poverty rate from 7.8 to 9.1 percent.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also exacerbated child hunger and malnutrition. In 2022, COVID-19 disruptions and supply chain challenges may push an additional 9.3 – 13.6 million children into acute malnutrition.

The war in Ukraine is just the latest in a succession of devastating conflicts and crises affecting the world. More than two billion people, including half the world’s poorest populations, currently live in humanitarian and fragile settings. These crises are being driven by multiple factors. Conflict, political fragility, COVID-19, food insecurity, a recessionary global economy and climate change are affecting the health and opportunities of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens. Such crises particularly exacerbate existing inequalities and vulnerabilities for women, children and adolescents and broaden the rift between the world’s richest and poorest communities. In Afghanistan, example, the impact of decades of conflict and political upheaval is all too apparent.

“Afghanistan, unfortunately, has remained politically unstable for many decades and it is a very low-income country,” said Wais Qarani, President, African Nurses and Midwives Council. “In total there are around 6,000 nurses in the entire population and it is estimated by 2030 we will need around 19,000 thousand nurses which is beyond imagination. Nurses and midwives faced numerous challenges for a long time and this was doubled with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, and unfortunately it tripled with the recent political turmoil, which happened in August 2021, and these all have further disrupted health systems and are directly impacting services for women, children and adolescents.”

Climate change and natural disasters place immense stress and pressure on governments and societies, especially in fragile settings that are already struggling to cope with other socio-economic and political pressures. The last 10 years were the hottest on record and the number of climate-related disasters has tripled in the last 30 years. Today, over 400 million children live in areas of high or extremely high-water vulnerability.

If the global community is serious about leaving no one behind, it must implement a rights-based approach and equity enhancing strategies that fully address the needs of the most marginalized, who too often live in humanitarian settings. They should be properly funded, preferably with multi-year, unmarked and diversified funds. Programmes should enable and equip local actors in decision-making to ensure that necessary and appropriate services are being delivered to women, children and adolescents in humanitarian settings.

The full spectrum of essential health services (in particular, sexual and reproductive health services) for women, children and adolescents should be provided in humanitarian and fragile settings, with designated funds for such programming and services to continue, or even expand. In addition, we need to improve the quality and quantity of data collected around women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health, which has historically been poor, and hinders efforts to respond quickly and effectively.

Health workers are key to ensuring continuous essential health care provision for women, children and adolescents both during the pandemic, and in times of conflict.  Any preparedness and response mechanisms for dealing with future pandemics should specifically address humanitarian settings and prioritise the protection of humanitarian health-care workers, including nurses and midwives.

The Lives in the Balance series of e-summits has served as an innovative and inclusive platform for partner-led dialogue and action on COVID-19 and women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health (WCAH). The first Summit in 2020 saw the launch of the PMNCH Call to Action on COVID-19, which outlined seven asks to protect and promote WCAH and serves as basis for PMNCH’s ongoing advocacy. To date, 21 commitments have been made pledging USD 32,1 billion. This fourth summit in the series focused on delivering on commitments in the context of COVID-19 and the growing number of crises in humanitarian and fragile settings.

“Lives in the Balance provided an opportunity for all of us to learn, to listen, to jointly reflect and to share and identify ways to collaborate for a fairer and a more equitable world, where all are able to realise their human rights,” said Lisa Hilmi, Executive Director, CORE Group. “Our aim and effort with each of these Lives in the Balance summits have been to listen to what others in the community have to say, so that our collective response is targeted and fit for purpose, especially in crisis situations where the stakes are so high.”

  • “Identifying potential growth zones”, Founder of Agrocorp Ayan Nagpal – Primex News Network

“Identifying potential growth zones”, Founder of Agrocorp Ayan Nagpal – Primex News Network

May 23: Agrocorp which has reimagined the experience of buying and selling land. They believe that land ownership is a fundamental right for all, not just a few.

What started as a pursuit to acquire land for self-use became a huge opportunity when Ayan Nagpal, Founder and Director of Agrocorp, realised that the land investment sector in India is still unorganised and in the hands of a select few. And with this vision, Agrocorp was conceived in 2012 with the intention of simplifying and organising the concept of land investment while creating value that not only simplifies the process of land investment but makes the whole concept effortless and more desirable.

We went all candid with Ayan Nagpal and let’s read what he has to say about Agrocorp and vineyards.

    1) How and when did this idea of launching a vineyard come to your mind?

As a leading land developer, our team is continuously identifying potential growth zones in the country and innovating on value addition that we can do on land by creating new experiences for our clients.

While travelling to the US, we visited Napa Valley and had a great experience with the family. The experience of a vineyard is on every traveller’s bucket list and we are excited to bring that experience to your backyard with our project “The Vineyard”, where an investor adds to their portfolio by investing in land in a high potential growth zone and at the same time makes this experience a part of their lifestyle.

Bengaluru is the wine country of Karnataka with the right climate and topography, which worked to our advantage geographically.

    2) What is your selling point for this project?

As they say, Invest inland, they are not making it anymore. But investing in land is a science very few understand. The land is the most time tested and rewarding asset class in the long run, but the location and potential growth factors of the area are very important aspects.

Our selling point is to invest in land in a location where there is growth potential, and while your asset grows, you can enjoy the asset as a lifestyle because of the value additions that we offer on the land.

The Vineyard is located just off the new Satellite Town Ring Road being developed around Bengaluru, which is attracting a lot of SMEs and IT companies because of its great connectivity to the airport, affordable land rates, and great road network and connectivity to the other parts of the city. With the density increase in the long run, the land prices are bound to jump and give good returns.

    3) Who is your target audience?

Our mission is to make land investment organised and a hassle-free experience in the country and available for everyone in the country.

With the increase in disposable income and purchase power, young India wants to invest but fears the hassles that come along with land investment. With an organised process and complete due diligence, we will ensure we offer land as an investment to every household.

We cater to all segments like HNI’s, Corporates and First Time Buyers through our various product lines.

    4) What are your next project plans?

Ans: We aim to develop 300+ acres around the concept of the vineyards over the next 24-36 months. In addition to this, we plan to expand to residential community development built around the concept of modern architecture, self-sustainability, world themes and nature focussed.

    5) Are you planning to expand this concept to other cities? Explain the process.

We are currently operating in three geographies, namely Delhi NCR, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, with Bengaluru as our headquarters.

A vineyard requires certain climatic conditions and cannot be developed everywhere, whereas land as an investment is a countrywide requirement. We are already catering to advisory for HNI’s and corporates in all three geographies, but we plan to expand our product line of farm communities to other cities as the policies allow.

    6) What are the challenges and hurdles you faced while launching this project?

Land acquisition and development is our expertise and our history over the last decade clearly shows that.

We have transacted more than 700+acres and developed and delivered 300+ acres to 600+ families without any litigation.

The Vineyard is only 45 minutes from Hebbal and while acquiring land closer to the city, aggregation was a challenge as for a very long time, Karnataka limited the sale of agricultural land to only a certain section, but the transaction still took place, creating legal complications in the title.

With the abolition of Section 79A, 79B & 80, transacting has become easier but finding clear title lands is still a challenge. We had to scrutinise around 200 acres before we could find the right land for developing this project.

Winegrowing is an art and a highly technical task. The second challenge was to have the right team in order to ensure the vineyards setup and maintenance were done the right way. Our exclusive strategic collaboration with Grover Zampa Vineyards Limited helped us achieve that.

    7) What are the Bengaluru real estate scenarios as of now? How has it changed owing to covid?

Bengaluru is the Silicon Valley of the country and is growing rapidly. Appreciation of real estate is directly linked to the possible increase in the population of the city. With the growing work opportunities and migration happening from other parts of the country to Bengaluru, demand for residential, commercial and land is bound to grow. Post covid the trend has changed, people have realised the value of space and those living in apartments aspire to a villa, and those who own a villa, aspire for a farm.

    8) What are your future plans? How do you see yourself 5 years down the line?

We have major goals for the organisation in terms of expansion. We are focussed on developing communities on global themes centred around nature and self-sustainability with modern architecture.

We also plan to expand to different cities across the country and increase our footprint.

This is all that Ayan has to say. We wish him all the best for Agrocorp.
