  • Action Aid Association- The fight against witch-branding needs a national legislation – Primex News Network

Action Aid Association- The fight against witch-branding needs a national legislation – Primex News Network

May 23: On 16th May 2022, Sukrat Bai, her husband Narmad Singh, and their 12-year-old granddaughter Kumari Mahima were brutally killed in Madhya Pradesh, under the suspicion of black magic. This tragedy surfaces just a month after the murder of Sukra Kasua and Balamadina Tirkey in Assam for supposedly practicing witchcraft. All five victims across the two cases were from tribal communities. The atrocious custom of witch-branding and killing has plagued the globe for too long and its sustained prevalence in today’s India is indeed shameful. Rooted in patriarchy, caste, and superstition, this practice continues to take several lives.

While accurate figures may not be available, a few hundred people are murdered every year. According to data by India’s National Crime Records Bureau, upwards of 2,500 people, mostly women, have been killed in India between 2000-2016 after being accused of witchcraft.

Often confined to the rural realms and affecting the marginalized, witch-branding does not get the kind of focus and action it begs. ActionAid Association India’s study on witch-branding investigated 115 cases of witch-branding, across eight districts in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, and Jharkhand. The study found that the reasons behind the attacks were issues of land, jealousy, accusations of causing illness, reactions to unconventional religious practices, against strangers in the village, and a reaction to women asserting agency and rights. A detailed study of witch branding in Odisha shows that most cases of witch branding occurred as victims were blamed for the misfortunes of other villagers. Some of these misfortunes were found to be children’s health issues; health issues of an adult family member, crop failure, or an attempt to land grab single women. The study also brought out the kinds of numerous human rights violations survivors of the witch-branding face. They are often ostracized, socially excluded, and sometimes even banished from villages. It was also found that this practice disproportionately targets women who are marginalized along the lines of caste or tribe and are single, aged, or alone.

Presently, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orrisa, and Rajasthan have enacted laws against witch-branding. However, due to the lack of awareness of these laws and redressed mechanisms, cases seldom result in investigations and justice. Cases of witch-branding require a holistic approach encompassing the rehabilitation of victims, punishment of offenders, and active and effective participation from the local administration.

Civil society organizations, local governments, and human rights defenders must join forces to mitigate the underlying factors which render communities vulnerable to such dangerous practices. Survivors of witch-branding need strong economic and social rehabilitation that will enable their reintegration into society. Furthermore, education, health, and livelihood measures must be emphasized and made available to empower vulnerable communities in rural areas.

The District Magistrate’s office can play a role in training and sensitizing law enforcement agents in districts prone to witch-branding. They can also be instrumental in taking preventive and precautionary measures by mapping areas and persons vulnerable to witch-branding.  Additionally, Gram Panchayats can play a leadership role in bringing disputes to the courts and instituting community retributive mechanisms such as community fines against people and groups who accuse another of witchcraft.

The most recent murders in Madhya Pradesh, a state among those that have no legal provisions against witch-branding reflect an urgent need for national-level legislation along with advisories by government agencies and human rights bodies such as the National Human Rights Commission elucidating relevant precautionary, preventive, and retributive measures. Child protection and safeguarding measures must be included in these advisories and any future legislation.

Rehana Rehman, Program Officer in the ActionAid Association Regional Office of Guwahati says, “Grassroot level awareness campaigns on the legal measures available to persons branded as witches will go a long way in abolishing this practice. Moreover, the District Magistrate and Gram Panchayats should be mobilized in identifying persons vulnerable to witch-branding and taking preventive measures at community levels.”

Sandeep Chachra, Executive Director, ActionAid Association India states “We need national legislation to comprehensively combat witch-branding. Such legislation will help build a national discourse, and will also provide an enabling environment for human rights and justice defenders to act. Beyond the legislation, what is needed are popular education campaigns building on advancing rationality and scientific temper, and indeed a momentum to eradicate the evil of witch-branding.”

Pescadoo led by Tilak Banerjee steps forward to organise the unorganised Seafood and Meat Market in India – Primex News Network

May 23: India is the second biggest aquaculture and fish producer globally. It is expected that the Indian fish will reach a volume of 26.6 Million Metric Tons by the year 2026, exhibiting a CAGR of around 9% during 2021-2026. Due to the change in lifestyle of people, food habits coupled with a rising appetite for healthy food is creating a demand for processed fish in urban areas. India holds a huge potential for seafood since the country is having a long coastline spanning about 8,129 km. Hence, India’s buoyant seafood industry has emerged as the largest group in agricultural exports of the country.

For the proper utilization of the potential of the country, Timaeus Marketo founded by Tilak Banerjee came up with a vision to organise the unorganized seafood market with their D2C brand named www.pescadoo.com.

Hence, Pescadoo focuses on three categories of supplies at present. It primarily caters to the bulk retail supplies, Star category restaurants, boutique fast food chains and gourmet kitchens and direct consumers.

Pescadoo came up with the Mission to be the most reliable, efficient and effortless source of a variety of seafoods and meat for different categories of end consumers.

Most importantly, it solved many hygiene affairs involved in the seafood and meat market and is also UKAS certified ISO 9001:2015 company. Banerjee’s motto is to reach and help each and every customer faster and deliver fresh products within 120 Minutes through their platform.

Pescadoo is functioning in Kolkata and Bangalore and aims to deliver all over the country in the near future gradually.

Ame organic launches best alternative for anti aging creams – Primex News Network

New Delhi (India), May 21: Ame organic-A Skin and Wellness brand has developed an elixir of life which calms your mind, sooth your emotions, and most importantly reset your skin age. If you are searching google for best natural anti-aging creams, this is a perfect product for you.

This newly launched skincare line is focusing on reversing ageing, a step ahead of anti-ageing creams in the market. This serum is the brain-child of well-known beauty and wellness expert and serial entrepreneur Nandita. With every purchase of a face serum you get complimentary skin consultations about your skin type, personality type and also get suggestions on anti aging diet, anti aging yoga, and right lifestyle for reverse aging.

This is India’s own women-led energetically charged skin care product line. With her 20+ years of experience in the field, and with a proven track record of multiple successful beauty and wellness ventures to her credit, Ame Organic promises quality and authenticity. As per her statement the latest trend in the scientific and beauty industries is no longer about slow ageing or anti-ageing, like with an anti-ageing cream; instead, it’s all about reverse ageing.

Even in India, we noticed that there was a big gap in the market when it comes to high-quality, Natural, chemical-free, cruelty-free, organic skin care serums with proper scientific research and testing.  Ame organic fills this gap perfectly. Ame is also unique in another aspect; this is a skin care line which doubles up as an anti-stress, anti-anxiety solution. They have named their brand of reverse-ageing solutions Amé Organic – a brand of natural skincare products.

According to founder Nandita Sharma, this line of skincare will revolutionise the anti-ageing skincare industry. She explains, “All Amé products are organic, 100% natural, and free from synthetic and chemical additives. Their formulations are a combination of natural oils, essential oils, and waxes, which have been time-tested beauty secrets carried forward through multiple ancient civilisations.”

These unique combinations have the power, much more than just an anti-ageing cream, to reactivate the cell regeneration process by working with the sensory inputs and calming the ‘stress/emotions and feeling’ related hormones leading to a natural glowing skin.

Ame Organic has recently launched two products: An age-defying day serum, and a cell renewal night serum. When used together, they balance the skin’s oil and moisture ratio and rebuild the skin’s acid-mantle (the skin’s outermost protective layer) bringing it back to the younger biological age and enhancing the skin regeneration. Post, the successful completion of the inaugural day yesterday, Sanskar Bharti marks another efficacious day today. Today was fully dedicated to the contribution of Indian Cinema during the freedom struggle, the point it was reaching every household with the mesmerising screenplay and dialogue during the last few decades.

Kulkarni – Prof. Vice Chancellor, Mumbai University.

Post a successful session, Singer-songwriter and music producer Mr. Anu Malik said, “ I always wanted to write one song on patriotism, and when I got the opportunity to make ‘sandese ate hai’, which is the biggest and finest song made in the history of Indian cinema till date. People walk up to me and describe the fineness of this song, I feel escalated that it was my creation. The patriotic songs recorded over the years have always moved me and will still be close to my heart. I am a proud Indian and I feel India is a county of magic, I make the songs keeping in mind that the people are elevated with the patriotism in them. Even today when the kids hear patriotic songs, they get all fascinated about it. We are still the same people who get emotional about our country due to our dedicated patriotism and love for our country. I am really impressed by Cinetalkies as they have put across almost every topic in the discussions today and how it contributes to the welfare of the country. I feel extremely proud to be here today.”

The seminar kick-started with the first session of the panel discussion on Bhartiya Cinema sangeet, a booster dose for freedom struggle with Mr. Durga Jasraj, Ms. Bharat Bala, and Mr. Anu Malik Moderated by Mr. Raviraj Pramani. Followed by the second session on Memorable films on the Bhartiya freedom Struggle hosting the panelists Mr. Vasant Sai, Mr. Akshay Kumar Parija, and Mr. Vishnu Sharma, moderated by Mr. Kaushal Inamdar. The 2nd day of the seminar hosted delegates from all walks of life, especially the Indian cinema, filmmakers of various origins of our country, aspiring film students, critics, and cinema lovers.

On gracing the event, Padmashree awardee, renowned writer, and CBFC chairman Shri Prasoon Joshi said, “It is very important that the directors today come out of their disenchantment and create a world where a farmer’s son can get a platform to showcase his story. Others wise all we shall witness is a story of farmers depicted in the films or to correctly put, a fancy-dress show. It is very important, who is making the film, and what background and dialogue they belong to. If similar movies are being made then only certain aspects of the issues targeted shall be focused on. It takes a lot of courage to direct a movie, I say, a guy with talent has to make a movie not someone who has the will to do it. An intervention from the government and renowned names like Subhash Ghai ji can make a difference and bring out the talent unseen and undiscovered still. The roads which are tough and filled with hindrances should be cleared for the talents like them, only then the talents will get a way forward to achieve their dreams. In India, we believe in the felt truth and if we take that ahead then the real depiction of the culture and traditions shall be shown along with the screenplay of the movie. To bring into light the Indian cultures and tradition the correct ‘Sanskar’ has to be given, no matter how he depicts it in the movie, it will automatically be conveyed to the audience. we should set the foundation right. I am very delighted to be a part of Cinetalkies, platforms like these are very much needed in today’s generation to understand and make better content.”

The event was a success in its own way as it witnessed the stories of the journeys, the celebration of cinema, and the 75years of Independence. Everyone who was present at the event had a beautiful smile by the end of the day stating the nostalgic experience they felt throughout.
