The summit hosted a panel discussion on the topic ‘Role of Women in Progressive Economy’, which saw the participation of 5 women excelling in their respective domains, namely Prof. Sriparna Basu, Professor of Communication, FORE School of Management; Lakshmi Krishnan, Society for the Promotion of Women and Child Welfare; Bhawna Agarwal, Country Head India – HPE; Rashmi Ranjan, AGM – SIDBI; and Tripti Khanna, Gramin Vikas Trust, Supported by KRIBHCO. The discussion was moderated by Jyotsna Chauhan, Sr. Vice President-Marketing, Smartworld Developers.

“Women today need to be trained well, majorly on the lines of skill development and entrepreneurship, career mentoring, women-friendly policies and how to use technology to build job generation skills”, said Prof. Sriparna Basu, Professor of Communication, FORE School of Management.

Skill Development needs to be focused on both rural and urban spaces. The need is not just training but capacity building and technique-oriented skilling. Job generation does not happen on its own, so identification of entrepreneurial opportunities needs to be identified. For example- Private sector (Airbnb trained women in Homestay Services) so it is a collective responsibility of everyone and not just some NGO and Govt. In terms of CSR, companies try to shove off their responsibilities by just giving money but do not actually get involved on the grassroots level.

Career Mentoring is extremely important as people do not know what to do with their acquired skills. They need to be guided on how to avail help in starting their own ventures or be a part of already established ventures. And this proper mentoring should start right after senior secondary education. Digital literacy is the need of the hour, and everyone should know how to utilize it to learn more.

Women Friendly Policies or Women friendly ecosystem is required in offices, factories, and all workplaces. Flexible work arrangements, crèche for new mothers who are willing to work but are unable to, and hiring women who were neglected post covid need to be reinstated in the workforce again. The world focused on hiring men first, but now women need to be brought back as well.

The use of technology in building job generation skills is important. Connect technology to people so that they are aware of what resources they can use for upskilling. Digital financial literacy is also important, i.e., the use of technology for commercial purposes such as using e-wallets, internet banking, and getting consultations online for their loans and for small investments.

When asked what she would do for the women in the country if she was the PM for a day, Prof. Sriparna Basu said, “As a PM for a day, I would want to promote women’s success stories not as a niche content, not as something which happens once in a blue moon but as a norm story, something which is common and achievable and should be promoted more.”

As a conclusion to the entire discussion, Prof. Basu added a comment, along with other panelists, that the total percentage of women in the workforce is 20%. 6 trillion dollars could have been added to the economy with women working right now, so job restoration post covid needs to happen to bring women back into the game and achieve women empowerment in real sense.

July 26: Students of the LP Savani School have come out with sparkling performances in the CBSE class X and class XII results announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Saturday.

While 29 students of the LP Savani School received an A1 grade and 63 students received an A2 grade in class XII, 50 students received A1 grades, and 97 students received A2 in the Class X exam of the CBSE.

Celebrations marked the LP Savani School, a reputed higher secondary school in Surat, as 63 students received A2 grades and 67 students cleared the XII exams with B1 grades in class XII, respectively.

Daksh Bhandari of the LP Savani School scored 100 out of 100 in the BTS Accounts and Maths to bring laurels to the city and his family members. Karandeep Gir, Arham Jain, and Mukund Kanodia scored 100 out of 100 in the BTS subject, while Mohit Tilwani scored 100 out of 100 in the Accounts subject.

The other students of LP Savani School, namely Sneha Rathi, Prisha Gupta, and Mohit Tilwani, Ayushu Kato, scored 100 marks in the Maths and EP Subjects.

LP Savani Group of schools, the reputed higher secondary institution in the city, performed well in the X class CBSE results declared on Saturday.

About 50 students of the LP Savani School scored A1 grade, 97 scored A2 grades, 102 students scored B1 grade, and 73 students scored B2 grades in the class X CBSE exams.

July 22: Aspiring doctors in India have had an important week, as the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam was conducted on 17 July. For those seeking admission to undergraduate medical and allied programmes in medical colleges, this exam is the first step to making their dreams of becoming doctors a reality.

The NEET exam is extremely competitive, and the number of students taking this exam has seen a significant rise over the past few years. Lakhs of aspirants apply every year, out of which only a few thousand get a medical seat. Over 18 lakh students registered for NEET UG and 95 percent attendance was recorded on July 17*.

The National Medical Council states there are over 600 medical colleges in India, with a total enrolment of around 90,000 students annually. For these 90,000 seats available, the acceptance rate comes to just 5 percent.

The remaining students may think about retaking the test next year, applying for another course, or studying abroad to earn a medical degree.

The number of students choosing to go abroad has been rising steadily, especially since they have options like St. George’s University (SGU). Not only does St. George’s University accept students who do not get a NEET allotted seat in medical school, but they also accept students that have never taken the NEET.

St. George’s University is a Caribbean Medical School in Grenada, West Indies, which has contributed over 19,000 physicians to the global physician workforce, with students, graduates, and faculty from over 150 countries. SGU is truly an international institution, with a uniquely global perspective, poised to help educate students in this rapidly changing world. SGU is the largest source of doctors for the entire US workforce, according to FSMB physician licensure data, 2021. 

In India, SGU is associated with the Ramaiah Group of Institutions to offer high school graduates (10+2) the opportunity to obtain a Doctor of Medicine degree via a 5-Year Medical Degree Pathway without writing NEET. Both institutions have medical schools that were established over 40 years ago with a long history of educating medical students.

The first year of the pathway is offered at Ramaiah International Medical School, Bengaluru, India, while the second year can be completed in either the UK at the Northumbria University campus in Newcastle or at St. George’s University’s main campus in Grenada. The third year is spent at SGU’s main campus in Grenada, and the last two years are spent doing clinical rotations either in the US or UK.
