  • How the ‘Office of International Affairs at SRM University Delhi NCR, Sonepat’, Supported International Students During Pandemic Crisis!

November 15: Abdullahi Ibrahim Haruna, an African student from Nigeria, pursuing his Ph. D. at the Mechanical Department at SRM University, Sonepat, recalls the days when he was planning to visit his hometown, and the second wave of coronavirus outbreak happened in April 2021. He was struck in India then and acknowledged how the University officials supported him at those challenging times. He recollects the time when there was no one at the University except a few other International Students.

He extends his gratitude towards the SRMUH team for taking absolute care of the international students as they did in normal times. All the campus facilities, even the canteen, kept running in the lockdown period. Not only that, as the students did not have the Aadhar Card (citizen identification card), the vaccination was a big hurdle for them. But the University took all the possible measures to get him and other students vaccinated. As a result, he has already received his first dose of Covishield. Haruna thinks that the University tackled the situation in the best way possible, especially because domestic students and most staff left for their native places.

Another story was shared by a student from Afghanistan, Quaasim, who completed his MBA in India when political instability in his country struck him back. He recalls the crucial times when he felt helpless as he couldn’t go back to his country. In addition, his father suffered huge losses in business. So he contacted the Office of International Affairs and expressed his interest in pursuing his PhD in Management. According to him, Mr. Vikas Bajaj at the International Affairs Department was very supportive and assisted him in preparing his file and documentation. He also helped him secure a scholarship at the University. Mr. Bajaj said, “We work for the noble cause of enlightening the world; hence we support students from diverse backgrounds from multifaceted cultures and geographies.”

The International Affairs Director, Mr. Manoj Madhavan Kutty, quoted, “India is also regarded as a communication centre and is popular among international students from all over the globe. India is an academic hub that offers a holistic learning opportunity to course-seekers. The University has witnessed organic admissions, majorly from Africa and SAARC countries. In Indian Universities, English is a common communication language. This makes it very appealing for the global community. For an international student, the advantage of studying in India is that the cost of education is relatively low in comparison to other countries.”

    The Student Exchange Programs

SRMUH conducts student exchange programmes with colleges (both students and faculty) all across the globe. These programmes broaden students’ horizons, teach them about multiculturalism, and expose them to management dynamics in various nations. We have established worldwide networks with institutions in the USA, UK, Germany, China, Australia etc nations to give maximum exposure to our university students. The multinational faculty provides all the key aspects of the global and cultural viewpoint. They encourage global education, improve research quality and increase exposure to global trends.

Here is what SRMUH assures through the progressive international collaborations:

    • Advising on methods and procedures to improve higher education to International Standards
    • Identifying and fostering collaboration with reputable universities and enterprises globally
    • Developing research proposals for both Indian and International funding

  • UnMath HotSpot- Converting the school into a math model for students to explore how math is used in school setup

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 11: UnMath School, a leading innovative teaching organisation, has launched UnMath Hotspot, which allows students to see how math is used on their campus. This entire process entails identifying approximately 80 spots on the school campus, divided by grade level, and training teachers on how to take these children to each spot once a month. The children are shown how math has been applied in these spots.
This one-of-a-kind concept allows children to explore how math concepts are used on their campus, as well as what would happen if math was not used. During the process, these students begin to use an investigation model and begin to comprehend the ramifications.
Speaking on the program, Divesh Bathija, Founder, UnMath, says, “The children have been absent from school for the past year and a half. They return to the school and are reminded that, yes, this is the same campus where you studied, but now you are going to look at every nook and cranny and see how math was actually applied over there. This makes a lot of sense for the students at the school who are extremely tired and have reached online fatigue because there is so much content being taught online that they would love to see it happening offline in front of their eyes.”
Further explaining about the program, Divesh adds, “Suppose that a certain school has a stage and a certain number of benches that are kept there. The benches are now aligned in such a way or at such an angle that more viewers are available. However, if those benches were kept parallel or perpendicular, there would be very limited view, or you would have to have tall people sit in the back and shorter ones in the front. Another example is at the entrance of the gate, what is the angle that it is opening and closing, then at various staircase measurements used over there, giving kids an idea that if they were to renovate a part of the school, what kind of calculations are required over there.”
    About UnMath School:
UnMath School, founded in 2012 by Divesh Bathija and Raashi Bathija, provides a creative mathematics curriculum that allows students to understand the subject in a smarter and simpler manner. The company, headquartered in Mumbai, has grown from four schools in 2012 to over 200 today, with 1 to 50000+ students and 10000+ teachers. The creative curriculum has been used in countries such as India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

  • Shopify for teachers: Edtech startup Bodhi AI serving a million users

November 11: Gone are the times when a teacher had to make lakhs of investment to start their coaching and for students educating oneself about something is no more a costly affair. Considering this as an opportunity, a Jaipur-based ed-tech startup Bodhi AI, awarded by Govt. of Rajasthan, started working on how to empower both teachers and students online.

The teacher’s side helps them grow their coaching online using their brand name and manage their coaching classes. Further, teachers also get free students on their platform, thereby giving them access to reach out to a broader community of students online. Thousands of teachers launch their teaching platform every day with Bodhi AI, and this is the highest number of white-labelled apps created by any ed-tech startup in the world. Teachers always prefer to start something in their name and have a strong vision for the product they want for their coaching. It’s just that they need someone to execute their ideas because they are the king of content and hence have to outsource their technology and marketing-related activities. The team at Bodhi AI treats every teacher as an entrepreneur and hence works on how to help teachers build their brand among students.

For students, it’s a completely free learning application wherein students can ask their doubts from any topic of their choice and get connected over a 1 to 1 video call to a teacher in just 60 seconds. Besides, students can take unlimited tests and even earn monetary rewards after performing well in tests. Students who come to the Bodhi AI platform say goodbye to generalized learning because students here connect 1 on 1 with an expert for their specific queries and don’t have to waste time researching the entire topic or taking unnecessary stuff around it. There’s enough content (videos, notes, and tests) available for students online, but they are still confused because they are not well guided. Founder Prashant Pandey, an engineer from the University of Birmingham, firmly believes “Every student should have a personal teacher just like Arjun had Krishna”.

Bodhi AI is growing at a great pace, with over 2,000+ paid coaching classes in India and 8,000+ paid teachers (a total of 85,000+ teachers on the platform) having 9.5 lakh+ students. The average value of transactions done by teachers after selling out their courses to students is about Rs. 3.5 Crore per month. Their unique business model of connecting students to teachers helped them multiply their teacher base up to 10x, with user retention rate growing up by 15%. On the student’s side, the need for a 1 on 1 personal teacher and the gamification feature of giving rewards for performing well in tests helped them increase their user engagement.

Founded by Prashant Pandey and Piyush Agarwal, Bodhi AI is a team of 35 Bodhis. On the investment side, they have been funded by the Government of Rajasthan and an ed-tech accelerator named UIncept in Gurgaon. After achieving product-market fit and looking forward to scaling, they are planning to raise their seed round. The offline Coaching segment generates an annual cash flow of over $21 billion towards India’s education sector, and Bodhi AI is on a mission to become one of the market leaders with startups like Class plus and Teachmint making an impact in this space.
