    BALCO Medical Centre brings world-class cancer care home

    Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India] September 23: BALCO Medical Centre, under the Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, is concluding the 2nd Edition of the BMC Chhattisgarh Cancer Conclave today. Held from 20th to 22nd September, the conclave brought together international and national oncology leaders to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in cancer care. With seven internationally renowned faculty members from London, Canada, New Zealand, Israel, the USA, and Spain, along with leading oncologists from top cancer institutes in India, the Conclave provided an invaluable platform for knowledge sharing, brainstorming, and networking.

    The Conclave was centered on the theme Common Sense Oncology (CSO) for outcomes that matter a growing movement in the global oncology community, advocating for pragmatic and patient-centric approaches to cancer care, particularly in low-middle income countries (LMICs), where resource constraints demand cost-effective yet impactful solutions. In addition, the conclave included a live surgical demonstration with augmented reality along with 10 workshops focusing on enhancing key skills crucial in cancer care.

    Mrs. Jyoti Agarwal, Chairperson of Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, shared her vision for BALCO Medical Centre “Our aim is to raise the bar for cancer care by focusing on a holistic, patient-centered approach that goes beyond treating the disease. This Conclave reflects our belief in the power of collaboration to achieve better outcomes for patients,” she said.

    Dr Enrique Soto, Editor in Chief of ecancer and Associate Director for Global Oncology at University of Colorado Cancer Center stressed the importance of rethinking oncology from a patient perspective said, “The focus on commercial interests and the absence of clear communication are complicating treatment decisions for both patients and clinicians. To rebalance our priorities, paradigm shifts are needed in education, communication, policy, research design and investment.”

    Dr Soto also mentioned “We need to adopt solutions that are both cost-effective and of quality to make a real impact on cancer outcomes in low-middle income countries to ensure that cancer care is accessible irrespective of one’s financial capacity.”

    “It’s important that our discussions don’t stay confined to academic papers but result in tangible improvements in cancer care across the globe.”, said Dr.Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director of BALCO Medical Centre. “This year’s Conclave attracted not only physicians, nurses, and clinicians but also researchers, patients, survivors, and patient advocates, making it a multi-dimensional forum for discussions.”

    Adding to this, Dr. Shailesh Shrikhande, Deputy Director of Tata Memorial Centre and a key faculty member at the Conclave, highlighted BMC’s unmatched surgical expertise and mentioned, “BMC’s facilities are at par with the leading cancer centers in the country. It is the only facility in the region equipped with eight surgical oncologists, five of whom hold MCh qualifications. The center’s operating theatres (OT) and infrastructure meet international standards, enabling it to deliver world-class surgical outcomes in this region.”

    With representation from across regions and sectors, the conclave aided participants with valuable insights and strategies leading to a movement in improving cancer care at their respective institutions. Furthermore, the Conclave also included a dedicated Nursing Conclave for the first time emphasizing the vital role of nurses in cancer care.

    This 2nd Edition of the BMC Chhattisgarh Cancer Conclave has become a landmark event, bringing over 1000 physicians, nurses, clinicians, researchers, patients, survivors, and patient advocates together, setting the stage for future collaborations and advancements in oncology for an equitable access to cancer care across India.

    New Delhi [India] September 18: Dr. Abhimanyu Kumawat, fondly known as ABK Sir, was born and raised in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Until the 8th grade, he consistently achieved remarkable academic success, securing the second rank in Merit. During this period, he lived with his grandparents. Following his father’s job transfer, ABK Sir moved to Ajmer, Rajasthan.

    In Ajmer, ABK Sir faced a significant challenge: the long commute from his village to the city for school. This daily bus journey consumed much of his time, leaving little room for extracurricular learning. To optimize his travel time, ABK Sir began memorizing his study material on the bus, enhancing his memory skills and ensuring that no time was wasted.

    Passion for Cricket

    Apart from academics, ABK Sir harbored a passion for cricket. He played for both Ajmer and the state team. However, after a significant match against Punjab, where his team faced defeat, ABK Sir’s father advised him to focus on his studies. Heeding this advice, ABK Sir started preparing for the Pre-Medical Examination (PMT).

    Medical Journey

    ABK Sir’s journey to becoming a doctor was not without hurdles. He failed to qualify for the PMT on his first attempt but succeeded on his second, securing a place at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Ajmer. He achieved an impressive 78th rank in Rajasthan.

    During his second year of medical school, ABK Sir’s sister began preparing for the medical entrance exam. Their father preferred she stay close to home, so ABK Sir, with the help of his batch mates, took on the responsibility of teaching her. Her academic excellence attracted five more classmates, and soon ABK Sir was teaching six students, three of whom, along with his sister, successfully passed the medical entrance exam. His sister also completed her MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in 2014.

    Accidental Teacher

    Seeing the success of his initial students, more students sought ABK Sir’s guidance. By the next year, 18 students were studying under him, and eventually, the number grew to 71. Before completing his MBBS, ABK Sir had 25 employees working for him. Thus, ABK Sir accidentally became a teacher, never having planned to enter the profession.

    After guiding a few students to secure places in top medical colleges and IITs, ABK Sir founded the Cellsius Institute in Ajmer to broaden his impact, aiming to help a larger number of students achieve similar success.

    To extend educational reach, ABK Sir launched NEETkakaJEE, transforming NEET and IIT-JEE preparation with a streamlined, innovative approach. Emphasizing minimalistic and analytical strategies, it also offers personalized guidance for each student, ensuring tailored support. NEETkakaJEE aims to make top-tier education accessible to aspirants in even the most remote locations.

    ABK Sir believes everyone faces two main struggles: personal and professional. Any third struggle, according to him, is hypothetical and self-created.     ABK Sir recognizes that students preparing for competitive exams are at a critical stage in their lives, with their hormones and emotions at a peak. To help them navigate these challenges, he started a YouTube channel called “OTT Bharat – ओजस्वी तेजस्वी तपस्वी” with the goal of connecting with 10 crore Indians and teaching them about spirituality, mental stillness, and physical discipline.

    ABK Sir’s mentorship extends beyond medical aspirants. He provides guidance for UPSC, SSC, NDA, and other major government exams.     Pune (Maharashtra) [India], September 11:  There is abundant literature on the life and contributions of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra and across the world. Thousands of historians have researched the king’s life journey in various languages. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is known to the world as the founder of Maratha rule (Swarajya). However, little has been written about his father, Shahajiraje, who inspired him to establish Swarajya.

    Pune-based historian Amar Yuvraj Dangat has tried to remove these lacunae. He wrote a book, ‘Randhurandhar Shahajiraje Bhosale,’ after researching and studying Shahajiraje’s life for 10 years. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari released the book at his home in Nagpur. Historian-written Amar Yuvraj Dangat and Sagarraj Bodgire were present. Gadkari appreciated the efforts made by Dangat for 10 years to write the book by visiting places in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

    Amar Yuvraj Dangat said, “Shahajiraje kindled the pride of Maharashtra and energised the native people during the 350 years of Islamic and foreign rule. He was the first leader who made the Maharashtrians aware of their identity. Therefore, I decided to write on his towering personality 10 years ago. I travelled across the country and completed my work at the memorial of Shahajiraje at Hodgire in Karnataka.

    “I have used genuine resources and tried to present Shahajiraje’s life through this book. I have written in detail about his creation of a covert rule in Karnataka and his contribution to the setting up of ‘Swarajya’ in Maharashtra. I researched thoroughly on Shahajiraje’s known and unknown missions till date by visiting numerous places, collecting reliable references and got them verified by hundreds of experts and brought out this book.

    “I am happy that my idol Gadkari Saheb released this book.”
