New Delhi, December 20: In recent news, a 25 years old girl’s father tried to persuade her to break up as he didn’t feel his daughter was safe with her boyfriend. In return, she told him – “I am a 25-year-old girl, and I have the right to take my own decisions. I am going for a live-in relationship with AFB, so from now do not consider me your daughter.”

After a year, the most unfortunate event took place as she was brutally killed by her boyfriend.

Instead of what happened, I was searching for why it happened in the first place. It kept me thinking over and over again why this happened. Why she didn’t listen to her parents? Why there is so much disconnect between parents and children?

Can we rebuild our home, our relationships, and our community to stay together and thrive?

It is not only important to rebuild the family culture but also the community.

Based on this, I outlined my talk on three elements – connecting parents, reconnecting grandparents, and rebuilding our community.

The value of connecting parents:

In the modern era or since the last thirty years, there is a strong need to go out and prove ‘self-worth’; it has become so important that everyone is sacrificing everything, including their real self-worth and the importance of family. All this is to enjoy freedom and equality. Surprisingly, this need for freedom is not limited to young generations but everyone, including sons, daughters, daughters-in-law, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts etc.,

How much individual freedom is worth it when families when are drowning, support systems are vanishing, and communities are getting dismantled – we need to think.

Even some men prefer a ‘smart wife’ over homemakers. We all must know what our child is reading or check his/her knowledge and beliefs occasionally to understand if he has the same values that we want to pass on.

Similarly, we need to understand the value of hard work involved in parenting as well as the value of grand parenting. Additionally, the value of community parenting. Will talk about it later. We need to invest lots of time in building trustworthy relationships with children.

Reconnecting Grandparents 

I am not against working with both parents as it may be necessary to survive, where a couple has no time to invest in parenting and can opt to stay with their parents or at least close to their parent’s home. They underestimate that real parenting is tough; even stay-at-home mothers feel exhausted by babies with their constant attention during the first two years.

Grandparents help build an emotional and traditional base for the child due to their tender connection and availability to deal with the child emotionally, wisely, and patiently.

Above all is done through constant correcting, updating, teaching and reading and storytelling. The grandparents are thoughts/beliefs checkers of your child and correct them constantly. Just like you see, word has a grammar and spelling checker.

This support system earlier consisted of grandparents, uncles and aunts, cousins etc., where we could share something that we couldn’t with our parents. Grandparents and elderly would teach the traditional values, customs, religious beliefs, kindness, and belongingness to the family, the value of acceptance of diverse views within the family and the power of forgiveness. All these worked as a glue to keep the family together and also helped in preserving and passing on the rich traditions, knowledge and values to the next generation.

So, there are three Ts of parenting/grand parenting – Time, Teaching, and Tradition. While you are doing so, remember to follow them first, as children observe what we do. So, children will observe and respect this integrity.

Consistent in belief and value system

Our primary values and belief systems come from Ramayan and Mahabharat.

How we did it effectively, we built a psychological shield around our daily relationships.

In Indian society, we have a custom of not calling our elderly by their first name – chacha/mama, bhaiya, didi, jeth ji, mata ji, pita ji…. such is a psychological and scientific way of managing relationships effectively because it tunes your mind to respect and communicate accordingly.

Parenthood is a blessing, and give your best (always); let God take care of the rest.

If a family survives, the community will survive, and ultimately society will survive. Today, Hindus or Sanatanis are nuclear in terms of the community. And we need to learn –

Rebuilding Community –

Unlike Christians, Sikhs, Muslims etc., Hindus do not have Community support. The most illustrious example in Hong Kong is Khalsa Saheb, who rebuilt a magnificent Gurdwara with donations from devotees.

Hindus have no fixed time or place to meet and greet or worship and interact to build a support system within the community. This is because we have been disconnected from the temples, teachings and traditions that taught us religion, values and beliefs.

We have not paid attention to building community centers, and the most important community center is a temple.

Donate at least 10% of your income to your community, primarily to the temple

Participate in your Temple activities and offer Seva as much as you can with selflessness and love in your heart.

Additionally, it can also organize get-togethers to teach ancient knowledge such as Ramayana, Mahabharata, Puranas and Upanishads and encourage devotees to adapt the learning to real life. We must involve our kids from a young age, so they adapt to the environment, educate themselves and evolve their thinking around this. It would help them develop a peer-to-peer connection and confidence, both socially and emotionally.

Lastly, my take on this is this problem of parenting and building society is only possible when we bring back the temple system where communities are built around a spiritual atmosphere and build a social connection among families that grow on emotional, economic, educational, spiritually and support for each member of the family as a friend or mentor within the circle.

The primary factor that drew you to the field of art: when asked Dr Ravidarshanji, he pointed out that I have loved art his entire life, whether it was of lavish home design or palaces, maybe fashion or jewellery, tourism or scenery breathtaking. “I adored art and attempted to preserve it in my memories”. Whether it was music or an artefact in a museum, my parents and I used to travel to stunning locations, and this served as a constant source of artistic inspiration for me. I used to research jewellery, our varied fashion and stylizing and the choreography of old movies. All of this drew me into the realm of art, which I am gradually incorporating through realist art.

He also admitted his gallery and his career in painting. He also discussed how he grabbed real perceptions on accurate observation on his journey. He said I don’t create a lot of work for sale. On paintings, I write legendary tales. By doing this, I give my paintings a sense of narrative atmosphere. My gallery is named “Journey of life on painting.” As I indicated, the theme of my artwork is a journey. Like the Flager’s House Museum of Palm Beach when I visited Florida, USA. I was inspired by the garden and depicted it in the Lord Shiva artwork. Similarly to this, I created two paintings when I was in Sri Lanka. My Sri Lankan trip inspired me to compose paintings of Ravana and Mandodari, Sitamata in Ashokan.

I decided to work in medicine to carry forward my legacy. However, I am still doing my art now as a passion. I’ve never taken any technical lessons or classes for painting. If there is anything more important to my artistic process, it would be my travels and perceptions, not the technical stuff. In 2015, I decided to emphasize developing my skills more.

My ultimate life objective is to become the person I want to be. I established my own art gallery and a private museum in Gondal with this in mind. All of my paintings are on display in this gallery. I have always had a stronger preference for the arts. I love to go to the most incredible locations in the world and see some of the most excellent museums, immense historical structures, and exhibits of exotic arts. The end outcome of original art production is that which transforms reality into art. The opulent royal palaces of the Indian Raj and the quaint streets of colonial or native India influence my interest in architecture and interior design.

New Delhi, December 14: A five-day book fair has been organised in the city by Kitab Lovers, a Delhi-based startup specialising in selling books at affordable costs. The book fair begins on Thursday (December 15) at Delhi Haat, Pitampura and will conclude on December 19.

The five-day event will feature over 10 lakh new and pre-loved books ranging from over 20+ genres.

What makes Kitab Lovers book fair special is its innovative ‘Load the Box’ concept, wherein customers who visit the fair can make a one-time payment for a box and fill the box with as many books as the box can hold. The boxes are available in three sizes ranging from Rs 1199 to Rs 2999.

Talking about the fair, Rahul Pandey, co-founder of Kitab Lovers, said, “We are delighted to host the book fair in our home town, Delhi. This is our second event in the city this year, and we are so happy to be back. Our book fair offers books at the most affordable costs and, most importantly, serves a wide range of book readers. While talking about the book-reading habits of Indians, Rahul added, “Especially in the digital age that we live in today, the book-reading habit has declined drastically. Since its inception in 2019, Kitab Lovers has hosted over 50 book fairs in 20 cities all over India.

An Art Fair specially for Architects & Interior Decorators

Ahmedabad, December 14: Ahmedabad is all set to host an art extravaganza unlike any it has seen before. More than 15 top art galleries from India and over 150 well-known artists will participate in The Art Fair at Ahmedabad from December 15 to 18.

The Art Fair has been organized by International Creative Art Centre (ICAC) and JS Art Gallery, Mumbai. Its mission is to democratize art viewing and buying by creating quality public art platforms and facilitating collaborations and networking amongst art buyers, galleries, dealers, artists, collectors, and connoisseurs. It will bring all stakeholders in the world of art under one roof, making it a one-of-its-kind event the city of Ahmedabad has witnessed. The Fair is accessible for Senior citizens & differently able people.

“The Art Fair will see the participation of around 150 visual artists from all over the country. They will exhibit and showcase their latest and most famous works ranging from modern and contemporary art including paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, prints, photography and digital art. The Art Fair is the place to be for curated art viewing and buying artworks directly from the artists,” said Suraj Lehru of J S Art Gallery, which has organized several such Art Fairs, Art Camps and Exhibitions in India and abroad to promote Indian artists.

Some of the major art galleries that have already confirmed their participation include Kalaneri Art Gallery (Jaipur), Eminent Art Gallery (Delhi), Gallery 16 (Delhi), Artisan Art Gallery (Kolkata), Ops Art Gallery (Delhi), and Rabi Art Gallery (Shantiniketan).

Some of the participating artists include Pranav Saha, Shruti Goenka, Manav Patel, Manoj Das, Nita Desai, Shankri Mitra,  Keta Dudhia, Drkoratti Rural Art, Ramakrishna V, Joydeb Douli, and Palash Haldar to name a few. The Art Fair will also offer a special tribute to senior artist Wasim Kapoor.

Artworks of some Master Artists such as Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Binode Behari Mukherjee, Ramkinkar Baij, MF Husain, FN Souza, Ganesh Pyne, Somnath Hore, Suhas Roy, Sakti Barman, Jamini Roy, Bikash Bhattacharjee, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Radha Patel, KG Subramaniyan, K Laxma Goud, Jogen Chowdhury, Madhavi Parikh, Paresh Maity, Jyoti Bhatt, Dhruva Mistry, and Vrindavan Solanki.

“A lot of artists suffered during the pandemic period. The Art Fair is providing them with a platform where they can showcase their art at an exclusively curated show. They will also have the opportunity to connect directly with art lovers, connoisseurs, patrons, and collectors. We are confident The Art Fair and participating artists and galleries will receive overwhelming response, appreciation and support from the art-loving people of Ahmedabad,” said Suraj Laheru, Director of JS Art Gallery, who has successfully curated and organized more than 50 art shows so far.

The Art Fair is hosted in the Jodhpur Art Gallery of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

The fair will be 100% run by volunteers. The Art Fair will have a special VIP preview on December 15 and remain open for visitors from December 16 to 18 from 11 am to 8 pm.

The Photojournalists Association Ahmedabad is also taking part in The Art Fair with a stall depicting the best works of leading photojournalists from the city.
