Savlon Swasth India Mission publishes its first attitudinal study on hygiene habits in India

New Delhi (India), April 26: Set against the context of the pandemic, much has been theorized and communicated on Hygiene practices and its adoption. While the pandemic has accelerated adoption of hygiene practices, some are still reluctant and lack a clear understanding of hygiene. To study the actual shift in behaviour and practice, Savlon Swasth India Mission, as part of its philosophy to build a healthier and stronger India, commissioned a nationwide attitudinal and behavioral study on current Hygiene trends. The study assesses usage, perception and behavior towards hygiene related practices in 2022 focused on the primary premises of hand hygiene, surface disinfection and mask etiquettes. The quantitative survey reveals some interesting trends and facts on adopting preventive hygiene as a lifestyle.

65% of the audiences surveyed wear a mask and continued to follow any one of the personal or home hygiene practices** despite the ebbing of the pandemic wave. 1 in 2 still disinfect their packages from outside and frequently touched surfaces. 9 of 10 people use hand sanitisers daily. However, despite such a large proportion following the practices, people are still confused about hand hygiene practices. Around 1 in 2 survey respondents still believe if indoors, washing hands with water is enough.  Similarly, half of those surveyed believe that the duration of washing hands does not matter as long as soap/handwash is used.

The study also brings to light an intriguing dichotomy on disinfecting surfaces. While 87% believe that cleaning isn’t enough and 64% believe that every surface needs disinfection; close to 70% say that surfaces that look clean and dirt free gives them the confidence of safety and hygiene, thereby discounting in entirety, the invisible germ load on frequently touched surfaces. This is despite most of them understanding that cleaning isn’t suffice and disinfection is required.

It is interesting to note that 1 in 2 respondents understand that all types of masks don’t offer the same amount of protection. As per a study done by ACGIH, if we all wear N95 masks (or its comparable BIS certified FFP2 S mask) correctly, we can stay protected from virus for up to 25 hours, even in the presence of an infected person. However, this number drops to a mere 27 minutes if both wear cloth masks.  Despite this fact, 51% chose comfort and breathability but not a stamp of authenticity while the latter can assure a user of the mask’s quality and efficiency. Further, 1 in 5 people still believe that a mask is not required if you are fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID 19.

Southern India has emerged to be more conscious of preventive hygiene with better understanding of need for hygiene scenarios like use of masks. The study reveals that respondents of Southern India understand the importance of wearing N95/FFP2 S better than the rest of India. It leads the number of people wearing N95/FFP2 S with 57% compared to 36% in North/Central region, 34% in West and 39% in East. Close to 70% of N95/FFP2 S mask wearers of Southern India feel that N95/FFP2 S offer more protection than other masks.

The study further elucidates that parents are the critical change champions who drive education and the importance of hand hygiene in children. Around 8 out of 10 parents have taught their children how to wash their hands and a similar number agrees to reminding their child to wash hands.  More than 8 out of 10 parents ensure that their child carries sanitizers to keep their hands clean.

Speaking on the findings, Mr. Sameer Satpathy, Divisional Chief Executive, Personal Care Products Business, ITC Limited, said, “The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of hygiene practices that have been imperative to mitigate easily preventable vulnerabilities. With Savlon Swasth India Mission, our endeavour has been to educate, engage and empower access to affordable, convenient and effective hygiene practices. The trend study by Savlon Swasth India Mission showcases the attitudinal progress in the understanding and practice of preventive hygiene in everyday life including some of the challenges triggered by the lack of knowledge. The study gives us a roadmap to better the consumer understanding between health and hygiene practices, and therefore help to build a healthier society & nation.“

    About Savlon Swasth India Mission:

The Savlon Swasth India Mission programme by ITC since its inception in 2016, has reached over 16,200 schools in 16 Indian states and covered 5.7 million children with its innovative outreach. • This World Book Day, India’s first modern fantasy fiction adventure released

This World Book Day, India’s first modern fantasy fiction adventure released

    Read Time:4 Minute, 44 Second

New Delhi (India), April 25: Friendship gets a hint of enchantment with The Adventures of Sugi and Banshee. The mindblowing adventurous tale written by author Kanika Mittal was released at the prestigious publication of StoryMirror on World Book Day. It depicts such a remarkable quest that has adventure, thrill, bonding and much more.

A heartwarming story of friendship, adventure and mystery intertwined to protect a secret older than Earth itself – Penned by Kanika Mitta published by StoryMirror, Sugi and The Banshee is a delicious tale featuring an 11 year old girl and her unusual companion who team up against Earth’s most formidable Enemy.

One cool spring afternoon, 11 year old Sugi and her best friend Roshni set out to explore the woods by the stream. Sugi is drawn into the delicious sights of the forest and runs deep into the woods without a care. In her excitement she gives chase and gets separated from her best friend Roshni. Soon she finds herself alone in the thickest part of the woods with the sun setting quickly and the air getting dense and misty.

It is then that Sugi discovers the Banshee. It was a green little thing with long silvery hair, oval shaped eyes and pale yellow skin that glistened in the moonlight. The hands looked like tiny forks and the corners of its mouth turned upwards almost like in a merry smile. That was until Sugi screamed out loud in shock and the green little thing wailed, an ear splitting, nails biting, earth shattering kind of wail.

What started as a nightmare turns into an unusual friendship that leads Sugi down a path of wonder and adventure. Sugi sets course to find out why the Banshee who is invisible to all can be seen by her alone. The Banshee’s destiny is linked to solving this mystery and Sugi is determined not to fail her little friend.

During the course of this wondrous adventure Sugi meets the wandering spirits of Neather, the Blue Fairies of Alaska and the Gorkums from the Stars as she and her best friend navigate their middle school challenges with a little help from Binni, the Banshee. While the first half of the story centers around the hilarity of how they nurture a friendship that is invisible to all but them, the second half is about their adventures and the mystery they solve together.

What Sugi does not know is that the Banshee comes from Neather – an ancient place that no one human being knows about and a place that was and remains the first ever blueprint for Earth. Despite the Banshee’s mysterious and powerful upbringing, the Banshee seems helpless on Earth. Can Sugi help the Banshee fulfill her destiny?

The story is inspired from the idea that every child has an imaginary companion that they love beyond reason. Sometimes that companion takes the form of a beloved doll, a teddy bear or a pony and sometimes it remains beautifully imagined in a child’s mind.  The author believes that this imaginary companion is a blessing from God and watches over our little ones, sharing their joys, their stories and their chatter in ways that an adult cannot even comprehend. That beautiful essence is captured in this book.

The book is well positioned to cater to the needs of growing children. While many kids are re-reading the classics, mostly authored by foreign writers, kids and parents are craving books which are contemporary and that can be related to their own lives. That is where Sugi and the Banshee come in – it is warm, indigenious with elements of nostalgia weaved in that make it an excellent read for everyone including parents who also want to read aloud to their children while enjoying the tale themselves.

Sugi and The Banshee gives our children a modern day imperfectly perfect girl hero – someone they can resonate with and be inspired by her values, personality, sense of adventure and carefree spirit, all thanks to its creator, author Kanika Mittal.

Kanika Mittal is a Business Leader with over 17 years of experience in Strategy, Sales and Marketing. She has worked with Indian and Global Majors. She was responsible for the #FitToFight movement for women, recognised by the Ministry of Women Child Development and the Kailash Satyarthi Foundation.

Author Kanika Mittal is the Founder of D.E.A.R Indiya and the curator of The Enchanted Festival of Stories – both unique initiatives designed to draw kids into the power of stories.

She is a mentor at the Vedica Scholars Program. She is also an advisory board member at The Marketing Society, India and MICA’s Centre for Research Excellence. The writer was recognised in E4M Digital 40 under 40, Social Samosa Superwoman, Top 50 Brand Leaders in Asia. This woman book-writer has won much prestigious recognition like Effies and Clios for her work in Marketing and is an active speaker and jury member in her field.

An alumnus of SRCC and MICA, the accomplished businesswoman is an evangelist and advocate of Brands built on Purpose and Passion. A business leader by profession, Kanika Mittal moonlights as a writer to fulfill her passion of telling stories. A message of woman empowerment is aired through the bravery of the young girls who take the initiative to save the day. The book speaks of mystical things, bonding, thrilling plot twists, humanity and one more vital thing- i.e. saving the environment, therefore saving the entity of the planet. Restoring the green, the very spirit of nature is truly rewarding as a theme. Readers of all ages will be amazed at this marvelous masterpiece.

“The Power of the Ballot”- A memoir that tracks the hilarity of Indian elections

    Read Time:1 Minute, 39 Second

New Delhi (India), April 23: Indian elections are a spectacle to behold. Debates get a little louder. Little wonder, the dinner table turns into a chaotic shouting fest. As the country shifts into further extremes of the two sides of the spectrum, the voices have never been so shrill. Amid the chaos, a veteran journalist, Anil Maheshwari, and a senior Supreme Court lawyer Vipul Maheshwari have successfully comprehended the colorful elections in the country after independence in the book “The Power of the Ballot” in slightly over 400 pages.

The author duo enjoys the laurels, which they received handsomely when, about 20 months ago, they attempted to see the characters in the Ramayana through a legal prism. The legal fraternity burst into laughter as various legal issues were tackled through the events in the epic Ramayana. The book was received well in the market.

The writers are back, this time with “The Power of the Ballot”. The book tackles elections, and the out-of-body experience that the quintessential Indian election can be. Historically, stories of the wild shenanigans have floated around through word of mouth, but the authors penned them down to point out the hilarity that ensues when viewed through a satirical lens.

The book recounts one incident of the peculiar practice of weighing candidates against the weight of coins during the 1980 Haryana elections. Virtually every candidate was weighed against coins to outwit the electorate. What followed was a disarray of goods, ranging from liquor to ladoos being used to weigh the candidates, all of which were distributed amongst the spectators to win their favor.

However, it’s not just elections that are tackled in this book. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic shook the world, and the way elections were conducted in India changed forever. The book explores how money, power, elections, and reforms can all be oh-so-colourful despite the grave consequence that each action carries, and how elections, as we know them, are changing.

Adi Kailash, a replica of Mount Kailash located near the Indo-Tibetan border in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, is also called Chhota Kailash or Baba Kailash. The Trip to Temples has started the registration process.

The eight-day religious circuit journey from Kathgodam will cover Adi Kailash, Om Parvat,Parvati Mukut, Brahma Parvat, Sheshnag Parvat, Shiva Temple, Parvati Sarovar, Gaurikund, Patal Bhubaneshwar Pandava Fort, Kunti Parvat, Pandava Parvat and Veda Vyas Cave.

The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited (KMVN) has collaborated with Noida-based Trip to Temples to organize a safe and hassle-free journey for the devotees with the best comforts. KMVN general manager AP Bajpai says, “We have constantly been striving to connect this yatra to more and more people and hope that those who were unable to travel to Adi Kailash due to difficult walking trek of 200 km will now be able to visit via the new road.” He added that the Government of India (GoI) and the Government of Uttarakhand (GoU), and the Border Road Construction Department are constructing a national highway up to Nabhidhang and Jolingkong, which will remove the walking component in the journey. He added that the initiative would also help boost tourism and employment.

With the third year of uncertainty over the Kailash MansarovarYatra, organized by the Government of India, Adi Kailash is the best option for the pilgrims. Mount Kailash is in Tibet Autonomous Region in China and only a few people can visit it either through KMVN or India tour operators on a group vias, but there are no such restrictions for Adi Kailash.

KMVN MD Narendra Singh Bhandari says, “The efforts will also promote local employment and homestays that we have built-in collaboration with our people and give tourists a glimpse of our culture. The yatra will be an amalgamation of religious and cultural tourism.”

Trip to Temples founder Vikas Mishra says, “We will be offering various options to the devotees including customized trips and facilities like Havan and Puja allowing them to spend maximum time as per their devotion. With the KMVN expertise on board, we assure pilgrims’ safety and convenience from weather uncertainties.” He added that gullible devotees could understand the aura of these beautiful peaks and urged people to explore this sacred home of Lord Shiva.

For those unaware of the mythological importance, Adi Kailash was his first stop when Lord Shiva came to marry Goddess Parvati with a wedding procession. The place is so close to him that he lived here from time to time with Goddess Parvati and the latter’s bathing place – Parvati Sarovar is a testimony too. Surrounded by the borders of three countries, the place’s reference could be found in the texts of Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Brihat Purana. While Lord Shiva resided at Mount Kailash (located in Tibet Autonomous Region) with his family, Adi Kailash is considered his second home.

April 22: Sahil Seth, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the 2011 batch who is currently at the rank of joint commissioner with the CBIC, ministry of finance, Govt. of India has been in the highlights for his commendable work for more than a decade now. In his recent contribution to noble events, Sahil Seth served as the guest of honour at the BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI)’s Second Annual Summit on the theme of Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by Women Empowerment, which was held in Delhi on April 11. He was also appointed as the Honorary Advisor to BRICS from 2020 to 2023 leading the association of five major national economies including India, China, Brazil, Russia, and South Africa founded in the year 2009.

In a world where sustainability is the aim, there can never be a better option than channelizing the energy and work of women. So, Sahil Seth kept his wide horizon of views that supports women, gender equality and brings light to the world with sustainability. When a woman is empowered, an entire generation is empowered along with her. Thus, it is important to educate, acknowledge and bring more women to light, so that a better world is created. Breaking the bias at work, women share an equal amount of cerebral status with men, bringing better ideas and methods. Additionally, the understanding a woman has of work-life balance is also greater than existing genders. So, parallel sustainable goals should be chartered.

Other than Sahil Seth, several other notable dignitaries like Meenakshi Lekhi, the Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Government of India, HE Mariana Pacheco Montes, the Ambassador of Colombia to India, and Ria A Sital, the Ambassador of the Republic of Suriname to India, NRAA, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Garima Bhatnagar, Spl.CP Intelligence (Delhi) was present at the summit. Notable dignitaries and professionals from various renowned institutions were also present at this summit.

Sahil Seth has always been known for his enlightening thoughts that have the power to evoke a change. He himself has been working in several organizations to bring a plethora of changes to the society we live in. He also runs his non-profit organisation by the name, “Prasara Care Foundation” (an Indian-based organisation that works for the welfare of poor and orphan children and senior citizens). The organization aims in giving a feeling of home to all the ones seeking shelter there as they are actually away and distanced from their homes. They aim to deliver rights for senior citizens such as Universal Pension, quality Healthcare, action against Elder Abuse, and many more. Prasara Care Foundation also believes in providing effective channels for financial donations, meals, education, clothing, medical help, and community development and work towards self-sufficiency. They also believe in empowering all the ones who are seeking homage in their organization. Thus, they focus on several skill-based training workshops, Volunteer Programs for Children and Senior Citizens, Adoption of Senior Citizens, and Adoption of struggling artists in association with CINTAA amongst many others. Sahil Seth and Prasara organization feels that all of these people would feel included only when they feel self-empowered. So, more such like activities are designed. Some of these include Skill development in orphan kids, planning plantation drive on environment day (5th June), Food distribution drive on weekly basis, and Identifying talent among orphan kids. The organization has also helped many cancer kids and is in the process of helping more.

Followed by his association with BRICS, he got appointed as the Honorary President of the Delphic Council of Maharashtra which was first founded in 1994 as an NGO for promoting art & culture. His active involvement in the art and cultural sphere is also bringing notable changes to this sector. He himself participated and debuted in the film “Bal Naren” which portrayed the fictitious representation of cleanliness education to save people from the consequences of pandemic. This film was widely appreciated for its thought-provoking concept.

Currently, Sahil Seth has become a youth icon who is inspiring generations to be like him with his wide plethora of good work.
