New Delhi (India), March 18: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the ‘Bharat Dialogues: Women and Mental Health Summit and Awards 2024’ was organized at the India International Center in New Delhi, where Upendrra Rai, CMD and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network, was honored. Participating in this event, CMD Upendrra Rai shared his thoughts on women empowerment.

Special Status of Women in Sanatan Dharma

During his address, CMD Upendrra Rai highlighted the importance of women in Sanatan Dharma. He stated that in some beliefs, the conception of God is solely depicted as male, but Sanatan Dharma is unique, where the conception of God is in the form of Ardhanarishvara, representing both male and female energies. CMD Upendrra Rai further referenced Simone de Beauvoir’s book “The Second Sex,” stating that when the book was published, it created a stir worldwide. Simone’s statement that “one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman” resonated deeply. He highlighted the fixed duties assigned to women in contrast to men, emphasizing the need for societal progression from such archaic views.

A Culture that Diminishes Women’s Contributions Will Lead to Nuclear Wars

Chairman Upendrra Rai continued on this theme, stating, “I believe that cultures that diminish women’s contributions will lead to nuclear wars. Because where women are given freedom to work, harmony naturally settles. Where men are put ahead, there breeds resentment, envy, and various forms of conflict.”

Women Should Not Depend on Others to Make Decisions

Mr. Rai referenced Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia’s book during his address, stating, “It is said that there is a time for war and a time for peace. In such circumstances, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia made a profound statement. He wrote a book in 9 volumes on Draupadi, a remarkable book about women. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia used to question how India would progress when half of the population was enslaved. She cannot even take a step without the approval of men. He used to say that my industrialist friend Birlaji’s wife also could not make any decision against her husband’s will.” This implies that women, whether rich or poor, were dependent on their husbands for decision-making, hindering societal progress.

CMD Upendrra Rai raised a pertinent question, “If half of our population remains paralyzed, devoid of rights, and powerless, how can we as a society thrive?” The Bharat Dialogues program, held on International Women’s Day, saw the presence of distinguished guests, facilitating extensive discussions on women’s empowerment within society.

Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2024 powered by Renault India was the glorious culmination of creative endeavours with Cinematic Evolution as the theme.

The annual award ceremony felicitated the best creative minds in the Indian Film Industry, Indian Television Industry & International Film Fraternity, paying homage to the craft of filmmaking pioneered in India by Dadasaheb Phalke (The Father of Indian Cinema). The grand gala was full of memorable moments and was attended by luminaries like Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Nayanthara and Vidhu Vinod Chopra amongst many others. 

With musical performances by Javed Ali, Sukhwinder Singh and Nikhita Gandhi, the evening celebrated the grand history and legacy of entertainment in India. It also featured a wonderful cultural dance performance, along with a spectacular acrobatic performance. The most brilliant minds of the industry and their projects over the past year were felicitated on a grand scale.

Seasoned actors Jaaved Jaaferi and Aparshakti Khurana were the charming hosts of the evening who left the audience spellbound with their natural wit and humour. The evergreen Moushumi Chatterjee was felicitated for her Outstanding Contribution to the Film Industry, with K.J. Yesudas being lauded for his Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry.

New Delhi (India) March 15: The exhibition – “Self-Discovery via Rediscovering India” – presents the vision and selects highlights of the vast domain of India Studies through original and digitised artworks, artifacts, archives, and memorabilia from the Tuli Research Centre of India Studies (T.R.I.S.) founded by Neville Tuli. This Exhibition primarily focuses on the fields of Indian and World Cinema, Modern and Contemporary Fine and Popular Arts & Crafts, Photography, Architectural Heritage, Animal Welfare, Ecological Studies, and the Social Sciences. 

Hundreds of research materials and art works are coherently integrated into an exhibition space which tries to express the vast and chaotic energy and rhythms so grasping the soul of one of the world’s greatest civilizations, where six thousand years are still clearly living and breathing in the modern and contemporary.

This Inaugural Exhibition draws on materials belonging to a single vision and collection that positions the contemporary as a living form of the ancient-medieval-modern continuum.

After a three-decade long pioneering journey and sustained search dedicated to the building of cultural institutions and their infrastructure in India, Neville Tuli will publicly share his knowledge and learning-base rooted in the arts, cinema, and their related disciplines, which finally becomes available online and offline to the world with the launch of the Research Centre and its website.

The Archives and Library which are the backbone of this Research Centre will be introduced to India through exhibitions, seminars, workshops, and conferences over the next three months, opening out a conceptual framework and curricula for the first of its kind three-year undergraduate programme for Contemporary India Studies across the world. 

The critical need to meaningfully reach the arts and culture to the masses and public, not just the elite and aspirational, must be taken to the next level. Creating an India Studies educational framework is the ideal way to take this vision forward.

“The exhibition introduces one’s vision to reach out freely step by step, wide and deep, to our people, and carry to them a holistic glimpse into the heart, mind and soul of India. It is structured on three levels – the physical object, the archives, and the digital formats – and rooted within the ground and context of sixteen Research Categories which structures the India Studies framework, which my thirty years of understanding India at both theoretical and practical levels has evolved” states Neville Tuli.

Hazira – Surat (Gujarat) [India], March 14:  An associate of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) – a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, has been awarded the prestigious Rajya Shram Award by the state government.

The Rajya Shram Awards were presented by Government of Gujarat’s Industries, Civil Aviation, Rural Development, Labour, and Employment Minister Balvantsinh Rajput in Gandhinagar on Monday.

AM/NS India’s associate Sonalal Ray, who is serving in the Control of Mechanical Department, was presented the Rajya Shram Bhushan Award, which is presented to workers for making exceptional contributions in productivity/production and showing innovative abilities of high order.

Ray was nominated for his idea and indigenous approach to the fastest revival of electric arc furnace 3, which was under Break Down Due to slew bearing failure. As a result of his idea, the furnace power was resumed in eight days against an estimated 11 days.

The state government presents the Rajya Shram Awards to encourage and recognise innovative work done by industrial workmen in the field of production, productivity, industrial peace, presence of minds and steps in the domain of health, safety and environment. The awards have four categories, viz. Rajya Shram Ratna, Rajya Shram Bhushan, Rajya Shram Vir, and Rajya Shram Shri / Shram Devi.

New Delhi (India), March 14: In the realm of legal advocacy and social welfare, the People’s Law Foundation (PLF), a sister concern of the Global Law Foundation, with its headquarters in Kannur, Kerala, stands out as a beacon of hope and justice for the underprivileged. Under the dynamic leadership of Advocate P. In addition to its legal and charitable activities, the PLF has made significant strides in environmental protection. In a landmark initiative before the Green Tribunal Chennai Division Bench, the PLF intervened to prevent the transportation of polluted liquid waste on highways during the fish transportation process, a practice that posed severe health hazards and environmental pollution. The unwavering dedication of the PLF in safeguarding the environment through public interest litigation earned accolades from the Green Tribunal, highlighting the organization’s pivotal role in environmental conservation.

Beyond legal battles, the PLF demonstrates a profound commitment to social welfare through its project FEED KANNUR, launched on 17 August 2021. Initiated with humble beginnings, this project provides free meals every day to the needy in the town of Kannur, Kerala. Through the generosity of various individuals and organizations, the project has completed two years and has expanded its reach, now serving more than one lakh people. FEED KANNUR exemplifies the PLF’s ethos of compassion and solidarity, offering vital support to vulnerable communities.

The PLF had done exemplary service during the flood in 2018 by distributing food and other essential commodities and carrying out relief activities to the needy in the affected areas. During the spread of Covid-19 in Kerala, the PLF was in the forefront in ensuring the people got food and other household needs, including medicines.

At the helm of the PLF is Advocate P. Sasi, a stalwart in both legal advocacy and political activism. As an active member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and a key figure in the Kerala State Committee of the party, Advocate Sasi brings a wealth of experience and passion to his role. His previous tenure as the Secretary of the CPI(M) Kannur district Committee underscores his deep-rooted commitment to serving the people and championing their rights.
