  • Empowering Communities: Mindtickle’s CSR Initiative Transforms Lives in Pune’s Mahalunge Village

Empowering Communities: Mindtickle’s CSR Initiative Transforms Lives in Pune’s Mahalunge Village

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], October 13: The complex issue of migrant labor problems in Pune, Maharashtra, is deeply intertwined with the challenges faced by rural communities in Vidarbha and Marathwada. These regions, known for their agricultural heritage, have grappled with economic difficulties stemming from factors like inadequate irrigation facilities, low productivity, and insufficient government support.

Consequently, many farmers and agricultural labourers from these areas seek refuge in urban centers such as Pune in search of better employment prospects. However, the transition from rural to urban life often brings with it an array of hardships. Migrant workers, driven by the hope for improved livelihoods, often encounter a harsh reality marked by low wages, substandard working conditions, a lack of social security, and limited access to fundamental necessities like healthcare and education.

In response to these challenges, Mindtickle, a leading organization, has undertaken a significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. This initiative is aimed at addressing the multifaceted problems faced by the Mahalunge community, a large village situated in the Mulshi Taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra, near the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, with a total of 1517 families residing.

Spherule Foundation, a Pune-based NGO renowned for its work in Education, Health, Women Empowerment, Livelihood, and Environment, is implementing this project on the ground.

Education, Women’s Livelihood, and Health: A Holistic and Integrated Approach

Under this integrated project, Mindtickle and the Spherule Foundation, a Pune-based NGO responsible for its implementation on the ground, have identified three core aspects aimed at uplifting the Mahalunge community: Education, Women’s Livelihood, and Health.

    1. Education: Over the past two years, substantial efforts have been directed towards Mahalunge’s government school, Madhyamik Vidyalay. As part of these efforts, a full-time educator has been provided to the school, aimed at enhancing the quality of education. Moreover, a comprehensive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program has been initiated to ensure that students have access to clean and safe facilities. The project also encompasses awareness programs on vital topics such as gender equality, menstrual hygiene, and mental health, fostering holistic well-being among the students.

    2. Women’s Livelihood: Empowering women is a cornerstone of this initiative. Spherule Foundation has been conducting training programs in various skills, including sewing, knitting, paper bag making, and sanitary napkin production. Recently, an important milestone was achieved as certificates of completion were distributed to women who successfully completed the tailoring course. These women are now poised to receive employment opportunities or business training, enabling them to establish a sustainable source of income. This not only empowers these women but also contributes to the economic growth of the entire community.

    3. Health: In addition to its focus on education and women’s livelihood, the health component aims to promote preventive care and raise awareness within the community. A health camp has been established to provide health check-ups and screenings, facilitating the early detection of health issues and enabling timely interventions. By emphasizing preventive care, the project seeks to alleviate the burden of preventable diseases and foster a healthier, more resilient community. Furthermore, alongside the health camps, the project conducts informative health awareness sessions. These sessions cover topics of profound significance, including menstrual hygiene, mental health, and sanitation. By imparting knowledge and fostering awareness on these subjects, the initiative empowers community members to make informed health decisions, promoting overall well-being and contributing to a healthier and more informed community.

    Impact Beyond Numbers

The impact of Mindtickle’s efforts goes beyond statistics. By providing education, livelihood opportunities, and healthcare support and awareness, the initiative is not just addressing immediate issues but also laying the foundation for a sustainable future for Mahalunge.

    Community Voices:

Residents of Mahalunge express their gratitude for Mindtickle’s unwavering support. Poonam Gaikwad, a beneficiary of the sewing training program, shared her joy, saying, “This initiative has changed our lives. I can now contribute to my family’s income and send my children to school with pride.”

    A Brighter Tomorrow

Mindtickle’s CSR initiative in Mahalunge serves as a shining example of corporate responsibility, proving that with dedication and strategic intervention, transformative change is possible. As more corporations join hands with communities, the dream of a prosperous, empowered India moves one step closer to becoming a reality.

  • Columnist and Political Analyst Abhishek Gupta’s take on The New Parliament of INDIA

Columnist and Political Analyst Abhishek Gupta’s take on The New Parliament of INDIA

New Delhi (India), October 12: Columnist and political analyst Abhishek Gupta said that with the construction of a new Parliament building, India, the largest democracy in the world, is poised to significantly alter the political landscape of its nation. This large-scale undertaking symbolizes not only a physical transformation but also India’s dedication to democracy, advancement, and inclusivity. Since 1927, India’s legislature has met at the opulent Sir Edwin Lutyens-designed Parliament House, a remnant of the colonial era. However, as India’s population increased and its political climate changed, it became clear that a contemporary, cutting-edge, and larger legislative institution was needed. The famous architect Bimal Patel has created a stunning fusion of modernity and tradition with the new Parliament building. The Lok Sabha (House of the People) and the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) both are housed here, making up India’s Parliament. Mr. Abhishek said that the design, which draws inspiration from India’s rich cultural and architectural past, combines components from different parts of the nation to highlight how diversity can coexist peacefully. The eco-friendly and sustainable design of the new Parliament building is one of its most remarkable aspects. It is built with an emphasis on eliminating waste, harnessing renewable energy sources, and decreasing carbon impact. This demonstrates India’s dedication to resolving environmental issues and creating a more sustainable future.

The new Parliament building is technologically advanced in addition to being ecologically friendly. Mr. Gupta also added that as a result, parliamentarians can function more effectively and honestly. This includes contemporary communication methods, audiovisual amenities, and digital voting systems. Legislative procedures are streamlined with the introduction of digital interfaces, making it simpler for elected officials to interact with their constituents and approve legislation. More inclusive and accessible features have been included to the new Parliament building. All citizens are able to engage in the democratic process thanks to improved facilities for those with problems with mobility. This dedication to diversity reflects India’s desire to be a country where all viewpoints are heard and taken into account. The enhanced seating capacity of the new Parliament building is another noteworthy aspect. The larger facility ensured that the legislative process should suit the expanding needs of India’s democracy, as the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are anticipated to have more members in the future. India’s dynamic and expanding political landscape is reflected in this expansion. Mr. Gupta then stated that however, the cost of construction is a major consideration. The project’s costs increased dramatically from its initial estimate of roughly 971 crore INR.

Critics around him contend that these funds could have been used more wisely to address essential problems including healthcare, education, and rural infrastructure. Parliamentary business was hampered and MPs were inconvenienced by the construction process itself. This impediment to the legislative process made it more difficult to pass significant laws and programs. Although the former Parliament building served as a symbol of modernity, its flaws, such as rising costs, resource diversions, environmental effects, and disruptions to lawmaking, raised important issues about its necessity and the distribution of resources in a nation facing a wide range of challenges. To make sure the project actually benefited India, a critical assessment is extremely necessary.

Nation Remembers Legendary Admiral SM Nanda on his Birth Anniversary

    The legendary Admiral SM Nanda

Admiral SM Nanda – The Man who steered Indian Navy to a resounding victory during 1971 Indo -Pak War

New Delhi (India), October 12: Hailed and revered as the War hero behind the only historic Indian Naval victory scripted in the1971 Indo-Pak War, the legendary Admiral Nanda orchestrated Operations Trident and Python, a daring naval attack on Karachi citadel of Pakistani Navy, setting it aflame and causing colossal damage to its naval fleet, which proved a watershed moment in the 1971 War, leading to the surrender by Pakistan and creation of Bangladesh from the erstwhile East Pakistan.

It is about time that the Architect of the Historic Indian Navy Victory in 1971 war against Pakistan is honoured by bestowing upon him the honour and rank of the ‘Admiral Of The Fleet’ posthumously as a must befitting tribute to one of India’s finest Naval officers, who awed the world.

Today a grateful nation remembers and pays homage to former Indian Navy Chief Admiral SM Nanda on his 108th birth anniversary. A distinguished naval officer and strategist par excellence, Admiral Nanda created maritime history for independent India by his visionary and daring leadership in the 1971 Indo-Pak War.

Admiral Nanda orchestrated Operations Trident and Python, daring naval attacks on Karachi the citadel of Pakistani Navy, setting it aflame and causing colossal damage to its naval fleet which proved a watershed moment in the 1971 War leading to the creation of an independent Bangladesh from the erstwhile East Pakistan.

    Man of Rare Conviction

Admiral Nanda was gifted with a rare kind of conviction, farsightedness and rock-solid determination to take on challenges head on. His firm command led the Indian Navy to play a crucial role in India’s wartime victory, his strategic acumen and dedication to the nation’s maritime security has left an indelible mark on our naval history, making him a revered figure in the country’s military annals, as the man who scripted the only victory in the naval history of India and that too without any casualty on our side.

‘And if war comes again, I assure you that we shall carry it right into the enemy’s biggest ports like Karachi .I know this harbour quite well, for I started my career there. And you have my word that given the opportunity, the Indian Navy will make the world’s biggest bonfire of it .’

    – Admiral S M Nanda, then Chief of the Naval Staff, at a press conference in Jamnagar, November 1971.

The Man Who Bombed Karachi Port

Under the stellar leadership of Admiral Nanda, the Indian Navy’s wartime tactics stunned the world. The bombing of Karachi from the sea in the 1971 War, braving all odds and challenges was a daring and incredible feat by the Indian Navy that phenomenally exemplified his resilience, farsightedness and conviction to win the war.

His dashing personality and decisive decision making were greatly applauded by then political leadership, who had given him a free hand in taking Operation Trident and Operation Python to its logical conclusion, which led to the devastation of Karachi port.

Admiral Nanda also strategically deployed missile boats, which attacked naval targets and an oil tank farm at Keamari port. Operation Trident sank Pakistan Navy destroyer PNS Khaibar, minesweeper PNS Muhafiz, an ammunition-carrying ship MV Venus Challenger. Operation Python proved the last nail in the Pak Navy’s coffin.

Hailed and revered as the ‘Man Who Bombed Karachi’ utilizing the daring Russian applied Missile Boats during 1971 Indo-Pak War, Admiral Nanda was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award, for his outstanding courageousness during the war.

    A Brilliant Strategist

Against the threat that Pakistan’s Ghazi submarine posed, Admiral Nanda devised an innovative strategy wherein he feigned a defensive deployment of our aircraft carrier southeast towards the Andaman Islands and lured the Ghazi submarine positioned outside Visakhapatnam harbour to its watery grave.

In the Eastern theatre, Admiral Nanda planned the deployment of the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in the Gulf of Bengal off East Pakistan to open a front from seaward to blockade it and prevent reinforcements or supplies from reaching it. Simultaneously, he lent his support for the training of Bangladesh freedom fighters, who went on to sabotage enemy shipping and cripple the port operations in East Pakistan.

    ACCOLADES By RUSSIA And AMERICA

What Admiral Nanda was able to achieve was extraordinary and unprecedented. The victory was so astounding and decisive that using the Missile Boats – meant for limited defensive applications– even amazed the Russians, who were not ready to believe that their boats could go so far and so fiercely and inflict so much damage to the enemy.

“My Great Indian friends have achieved the impossible,” Admiral of the Heroic Fleet of the Soviet Union (Glavkom) – Gorshkov shared his astonishment and alacrity with Admiral Nanda over his remarkable triumph.

Even the American Admiral in his inscription on his memoir ‘ON WATCH,’ by Elmo R Zumwalt Jr, Admiral USN (Retd) wrote: “To Admiral SM Nanda who knew the key, in 1971, to avoiding mishap! With respect!” Admiral Zumwalt, who was the Chief of Naval Operations, US Navy, in 1971 and led the U S Seventh Fleet to intimidate India during the 1971 Indo Pak war.

Admiral Zumwalt visited India and in a letter dated 6th December 1989 to Admiral Nanda, shared the inscribed copy of his book ‘ON WATCH’ wherein he mentions: “Here, in India, Admiral Nanda, now retired, told us that his instructions to his ships at that time were – If you encounter US Navy ships, invite their captains onboard for a drink.”

‘ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET’ FOR THE MAN who achieved the MOMENTOUS VICTORY of 1971′

The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi congratulated Chiefs of the three services, General Sam Manekshaw, Admiral SM Nanda and Air Chief Marshal PC Lal for their remarkable feat.

A befitting acknowledgement of the magnificent services and extraordinary leadership Admiral Nanda provided to the Indian Navy during a critical juncture in the nation’s history will be the conferment of ‘Admiral of the Fleet’ honour on him.

This gesture will serve as a reminder of the dedication, courage, strategic brilliance and unwavering commitment for excellence displayed by the Indian Navy under the magnificent leadership of Admiral Nanda for ages to come and give a sense of pride to Indians for winning a historic Naval Battle against severe odds.

Let Admiral Nanda’s Memory Live Long

By giving this due recognition posthumously to Admiral Nanda, a symbol of inspiration and a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Indian Navy, we will only ensure that his great legacy inspires current and future generations of naval officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and dedication in the defense of their nation’s sovereignty.

Admiral Nanda had a charismatic personality, who motivated his fledgling Navy to achieve the impossible, foresaw the bigger picture, ensured swift planning and adaptation to highly dynamic wartime circumstances and led by example to add a scintillating feather in India’s ever dazzling armour.

How magnificent was Admiral Nanda as a Naval leader has been beautifully described later by one of his successors the  Naval Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta in his tribute to him in 2009: “He (Admiral Nanda) will always be remembered in the most glowing terms for his leadership of the Indian Navy during the Indo-Pak Conflict of 1971, in which the Indian Navy carved its name in golden letters in the annals of history by its sterling offensive actions.”

This initiative, unveiled on September 28th, underscores Ratnaakar Group’s commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for animals under the care of the Barkville Foundation. The message resonating from this endeavor is clear: “Earth is for All.”

Swati Verma and Hemani Mod, the Founders of the Barkville Foundation, conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to Ratnaakar Group and extended their gratitude to the dedicated employees of Ratnaakar who actively participated in a tree plantation activity. Under this remarkable initiative, one thousand trees of various species, ranging from the majestic Neem to vibrant flowering varieties like Drumstick, Billi Patra, Madudo, Champa, and Jasud, were planted. The designated area underwent meticulous preparation, including tilling and pit creation for plantation, and protective fences were installed to safeguard specific plants. Additionally, a drip irrigation system was implemented to ensure efficient water usage and accelerate the growth of the newly planted trees.

Mr. Nishant Shah, Joint Managing Director, Ratnaakar Group, emphasized, “Caring for our planet and its inhabitants is not just a responsibility; it’s our privilege. Through our partnership with the Barkville Foundation, we are nurturing a Green Oasis for Rescued Animals, a sanctuary that embodies the spirit of harmony and coexistence. Together, we are sowing the seeds of compassion and sustainability, ensuring that ‘Earth is for All,’ now and for generations to come.”

Situated on a sprawling 17,000 square feet of land in Dabhod, Gandhinagar, Barkville Foundation is on a mission to provide second chances for our four-legged companions. Their unwavering commitment revolves around offering a safe and caring home for animals in dire need—whether they are large or small, abused, neglected, or abandoned. Barkville’s vision is to end the cycle of abuse and pet overpopulation through rescue operations, investigations, spay/neuter programs, and educational initiatives while fostering lasting relationships between people and animals through their adoption programs.

Initially, Barkville’s goal was to rescue and rehabilitate homeless (stray) dogs and other animals in need. However, the post-COVID landscape brought new challenges, primarily centered around abandoned pets. Presently, Barkville provides shelter to 85 abandoned pet dogs, including Labradors, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, St. Bernards, Beagles, Pitbulls, and various mixed breeds. In addition to dogs, the facility houses cows, horses, kittens, bunnies, and numerous birds.

Running a shelter for such a diverse array of animals comes with its share of challenges, with funding being a primary obstacle. The invaluable assistance of volunteers and organizations in various capacities, including fundraising, caring for the shelter’s residents, participating in educational efforts, and promoting adoptions through personal and social media connections, plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges.

Ratnaakar Group has been a stalwart in the construction industry for over three decades, creating spaces that fulfill dreams and inspire trust. • Supreme Court Justice Maheswari Calls for an Inclusive Society

Supreme Court Justice Maheswari Calls for an Inclusive Society

Justice J.K. Maheshwari of the Supreme Court of India on Saturday urged individuals to play their part in creating a truly inclusive nation.

Justice Maheswari was delivering the keynote address at a conference on ‘Diversity and Conformity — Defining India’, organised by Jamia Hamdard and the Global Dialogue Forum think tank.

He underlined the protection of the values of diversity found in the Indian Constitution and added that it can only be sustained through inclusivity.

“In my opinion, the way forward to achieve the ends of social inclusion is not possible unless we on an individual level contribute towards a truly inclusive society,” he pointed out.

He said that creating a socially inclusive society required fostering empathy, dismantling prejudices, and championing diversity.

He emphasised the importance of the Constitution of India stands as a remarkable testament to unity in diversity and inclusivity.  “It encapsulates the vision of its framers to build a nation that respects and embraces its rich cultures, languages, religions, and traditions,” he said.

“Theoretically, India has all the elements which is needed for a society to become completely inclusive while promoting positive diversity. But are we really a socially inclusive society?” Justice Maheshwari asked.

He pointed out that in the recent ‘Inclusive Development Index (IDI), 2020’ compiled by the World Economic Forum (WEF), India ranked 62nd out of 74 emerging countries and was among the least inclusive countries in Group of 20 (G20) countries. India also did not make it to the top 10 most inclusive emerging and developing economies, where its neighbours Nepal, China and Sri Lanka made a mark, he added.

“In view of the said position of our nation, in my opinion, the way forward to achieve the ends of social inclusion is not possible unless we on an individual level contribute towards a truly inclusive society”, he asserted.

Professor Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, pointed out in his Presidential Address that the people of India were facing the challenge of striking the right balance between accepting diversity and promoting a national identity.

“It is imperative that we recognize that diversity is not a threat to our unity, but rather, it is our strength. It is what makes us resilient, innovative, and adaptable,” Professor Alam added.

Moses Manoharan, Chairman of Global Dialogue Forum, stressed in his address the current relevance of diversity and conformity across the world as people struggled to define what unites them while preserving their unique identities.

“The struggle encompasses distinct ethicalities, gender and ways of life”, Mr. Manoharan added.

Mr. Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman of the National Minorities Commission, delivering the Valedictory Address, called for a greater understanding of shortfalls in the system.

How do we change the system? We can make a change if we understand the shortfalls. He called for the celebration of other religions instead of having discussions on it. “Let us celebrate diversity. I won’t ask diversity to become unity,” he added.

  • Kerala CM inaugurated CIAL’s seven Mega Projects

Kerala CM inaugurated CIAL’s seven Mega Projects

Kerala remains steadfast in implementing alternative ideas to Liberalisation: Chief Minister

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has launched seven mega projects of Cochin International Airport Limited, ideated to address future traffic, cargo growth and safety upgrades.

In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister said that the public sector organizations in Kerala are an alternative to the idea of liberalization, which endorses that it is not the government’s responsibility to run industries that benefit the entire society or to market intervention.

“This is a time when even strategic public sector institutions, including airports, are being privatized. The thinking behind this is that such institutions can only be run successfully in the private sector as they require huge capital investment, framing of futuristic development vision and professionalism in management. Behind this is the conventional idea that it is not the government’s duty to run industries that benefit the entire society or intervene in the market. But an alternative to this can be seen in public sector institutions in Kerala. The public sector in Kerala stands as a testament to the success of government-backed institutions. Here, they are protected and prospering. The state even takes over and operates the institutions that are even slated for disinvestment by the Central Government. The best example of this alternative is the Cochin International Airport Limited, which is under the direct control of the Government of Kerala”, said Chief Minister.

“This is the fourth mega project to be inaugurated in CIAL in the last 2 years. The three projects that were commissioned earlier – Aripara hydroelectric power plant, Payyannur solar power plant and Business Jet Terminal are making notable strides. CIAL is an alternative that renders irrelevant the argument that only the private sector can operate airports efficiently and profitably in this ever-changing world, where new technologies are constantly being introduced,” said the Chief Minister.

The projects inaugurated include the Import cargo Terminal, DigiYatra e-boarding software, Modernization of Airport Emergency Services, International Terminal Expansion: Phase 1, Golf Tourism venture, Construction of India’s biggest Aero Lounge and the Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS).  The Chief Minister stated that all these projects validate CIAL’s vision of ‘Flying into Tomorrow’.

Minister P. Rajeev presided over the event, while S. Suhas IAS, Managing Director of CIAL, extended the welcome address. CIAL Director M.A. Yusuffali delivered the welcoming remarks. Ministers K. Rajan P. A. Mohamed Riyas were the Guests of Honour.  Anwar Sadath MLA, Roji M. John MLA, Benny Behanan MP, Hibi Eden MP, and Chief Secretary Dr. V. Venu delivered the felicitation speech. Elected representatives Mathew Thomas, T. V Kunju, V. M Shamsuddeen, Gracy Dayanandan, and Shobha Bharathan were also present alongside CIAL Directors E. K. Bharat Bhushan, Aruna Sundararajan, N.V George, and Dr. P Muhammad Ali. CIAL Executive Director & Company Secretary Saji K. George proposed the Vote of Thanks.
