Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 27:  Nikhil Mansukhani and Siddharth Nandal both won double crowns at the recently conducted Racketlon All India Open Championships. Nikhil Mansukhani won the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles while Nandal clinched the Men’s Singles and Doubles titles.

Racketlon is a combination sport in which the competitors are required to play four racket sports: table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis and have to compete for one set of 21 points across all four games.

Krishna Kotak who is the founder of Racketlon in India, also won the Title in Men Singles 55 plus category. Racketlon in India is managed by a Racketlon India Sports Association (RISA), with KK Cheema as its president.

Nikhil won the double crown by securing Gold in the Elite Men’s Doubles and Elite Mixed Doubles categories. In the Men’s Doubles, Nikhil partnered with 33-year-old Income tax officer, Siddharth Nandal to win 21-6, 21-7, 2-21, 12-3 against the pair of Kunal Singh and Vaibhav Chauhan. In the Mixed Doubles, Nikhil partnered with Johann Fernandes to clinch the Gold. This was Nikhil’s maiden National title.

In the Men’s Singles, Siddharth Nandal won his third National title by defeating Vikramaditya Chaufla from Udaipur with a score line of 20-22, 21-16, 21-8, 7-2.

Both Nikhil and Siddharth have also represented India at the Racketlon World Championships held in Rotterdam last year and have been practicing at NSCI Club at Worli.

The competition was organised by the Wellington Catholic Gymkhana and featured more than 150 participants.

This proved India’s Pride and Commonwealth Heavyweight Wrestling Champion Sangram Singh as he returned to Pro Wrestling to beat his 23-year-old Pakistani opponent Mohammed Saeed at the International Pro Wrestling Championship in Dubai in a nail-biting wrestling match that lasted 18 minutes.

Sangram Singh, who admits listening to his inner voice to get on to the mat again, admits this comeback at 40 had a nation’s hope riding on him.

For one, the fully packed stadium of supporters was just part of an entire nation looking up to him, his former International coach Dhyanchand’s faith in him and of course the future generation of wrestlers and those veterans who needed to believe they still had the fight left in them!

“This is not my victory. This win is of every Indian who believed in me, stood by me and prayed for me,” expressed Sangram Singh. “This is the victory of every youth who has dreams in his eyes and fire in his heart.”

Sangram Singh’s last triumph on the mat was more than half a decade ago at the KD Jadhav Memorial International Khusti Championships, where he clinched the Gold by convincingly defeating Kevin Radford Jr. Admitting the return was not easy, Sangram confesses, “I returned to wrestling after 6-7 years, put on weight with food and liquids. But Muhammad Saeed is 9-10 Kg heavier than me, is 18 years younger, and has speed, ability and strength surpassing mine. What I had was faith and belief in myself. And to win, each youngster needs to have the same faith. The pressure was immense at a power-packed stadium filled with Indians, the match was Live the world over. It was one of the toughest matches in my life and one of the best as well. This victory marks the beginning of my mission to motivate and allow youth to turn World Champion Wrestlers, armed with faith and belief. The youth needs to learn about the journey of those who came before them, the shoulder of the people they stand on today before they learn to walk their path.” Incidentally, Sangram Singh’s film Udaan Zindgi Ki… on Chaupal is spelling exactly this and is all set for a March release.

“I am blessed that our entire nation is holding my hand in this mission,” said an emotional Sangram Singh, admitting that the faith and prayers of the nation was his armour in this match.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], February 2: In a historic move, the Swimming Federation of India has selected a woman to lead the Indian diving team at the upcoming World Aquatics Championship 2024 in Doha, Qatar. The announcement of the Indian squad for the Championship was made by the Federation last evening.

Palak Sharma, the first Indian female diver to clinch a gold medal in the Asian Age Group Championship, is set to make history as she leads the Indian team in Doha. The team also comprises London Singh, Surjeet Rajbansi and Wilson Singh. The team will be coached by Shenin Roy. The World Aquatics Championship is taking place in Qatar’s capital Doha from January 31 to February 10.

Palak, who has competed at senior and junior tournaments around the world and has won several medals, is the first woman diver from India to have been selected for the World Aquatic Championship, making a significant milestone for Indian women in diving.

In 2019, Palak made the country proud by winning two silver medals and one gold medal in the 10th Asian Age Group Championship. Her gold-winning performance also made her the first Indian woman to win gold in the Asian Age Group Championship. Palak has surpassed the high standards by continuously improving her performance.

Along with the Prime Minister’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, Palak is also the brand ambassador of Indore Safe City.
