  • Magic Bus India Foundation and Laureus Sport for Good launch the Resilience Esports Series

    Matthew Spacie, Founder, Magic Bus

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 24: Magic Bus and Laureus Sport for Good launch the Resilience Esports Series. Their first initiative in Esports will see the organisations partner to host a FIFA 21 fundraising event this year, proceeds of which will go to Magic Bus. The event will see Indian and international celebrities take part in a celebrity showdown with both organisations inviting special guests to make appearances during the broadcasts.

Speaking on the occasion, Matthew Spacie, Founder, Magic Bus said, “Learning inequities have widened due to pandemic generated school closures and there has been an adverse impact on children’s education. Further, the livelihood crisis will lead to a surge in the demand for child labour and the number of children being pushed into illegal and ‘hazardous’ work.  What is important at this hour is to ensure children have access to learning.  We are doing whatever it takes to facilitate this virtually, in the interim, until schools reopen. We are extremely grateful for this collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good that will address an urgent situation; to ensure learning continuity of more than one million children across India.” he said.

Apart from guest appearances by celebrities, there will be a pro-FIFA tournament and an open fan-based tournament for the FIFA communities in both regions, providing a key opportunity for fans and players of FIFA to put themselves to the test in the world stage. The event will be launched on July 31st2021 with a live launch party.

Laureus Sport for Good, Chief Executive, Adam Fraser said: “Laureus Sport for Good has been proud to partner with organisations changing the lives of young people in India for many years. Right now, amidst a humanitarian crisis, much of the incredible work that has been done risks being undermined. Alongside the fear of death and disease is an unprecedented increase in lack of access to education and safe access to learning – and as ever, it is those who are most at-risk who will end up most affected. We are proud to be partnering with Magic Bus and our other partners to play our part in addressing and, one day, ending this terrible situation.”

The core ambition of the Resilience Esports series is to host a variety of events to raise awareness and funds to address an urgent need to help 1 million children across India get back to school and complete their education.

With a vision to bring children and young people out of poverty, Magic Bus enables children to complete secondary education, reduce the risk of early marriage and enables young people to be placed in sustainable livelihood opportunities. Magic Bus uses a sports activity-based curriculum to use the power of sport to equip children from a young age, with the life skills they need, to break out of poverty.

Following a Magic Bus Survey on the Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on families and children, it revealed 83% of adolescents reported having no access to online learning resources. To address this problem during school closures, Magic Bus has ensured learning engagement continues across its programme in 22 states of India. It has created virtual groups of school children to ensure children are connected to learning. Small group sessions are conducted on virtual platforms such as conference calls and WhatsApp, Google Meet and Zoom, using a need-based curriculum.

In addition to this, the Magic Bus Community Learning Centres (CLC) have been set up. They are an educational platform outside the formal education system usually set up in the community and managed by the local people to provide various learning opportunities supporting empowerment, social transformation, and improvement of the quality of life of the people. The primary objective of these centres is to reduce school dropouts, improve foundational literacy and numeracy, and in turn improve overall learning outcomes. Due to school closures, the CLC sessions are now being conducted virtually.

The movement into e-sports will not just create a further opportunity for all participants but will be a driving force within future educational strategies having a huge positive impact within the regions both organisations operate within.

    About Magic Bus India Foundation

From 3000 children in 1999 in Mumbai, Magic Bus has transformed the lives of over one million children and young people living in poverty, taking them from a childhood full of challenges to a life with meaningful livelihoods. We deliver sessions in close to 1363 schools and 1961 communities. Since the Livelihood programme began in 2015, we have over 50 livelihood skilling centres and 8 entrepreneurship incubation centres in high-need strategic locations in India. Through these livelihood centres, more than 60,000 young men and women have been trained and more than 70% were placed in jobs in the organised sector with an average salary of INR 11,500. • Behind the scenes of Mumbai Indians’ IPL success story

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 19: The Indian Premier League began in 2008; a year after India’s cricket team won the inaugural World Twenty20 tournament in a thrilling final against Pakistan. What began as a noble goal 11 years ago is now widely regarded as the best Twenty 20 competition in the world.

The 14th season of the Indian Premier League, often known as IPL 14, took place this year. The Mumbai Indians were the reigning champions for the two years in a row, having won both the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The Punjab Kings were renamed Kings XI Punjab ahead of the event.

After an increase in COVID-19 cases within the bio bubbles of individual teams, the event was postponed indefinitely on 4 May 2021. Thirty-one of the scheduled sixty matches were still to be played at the time of the suspension. The BCCI confirmed on May 29, 2021, that the tournament’s final matches would be held in the United Arab Emirates in September and October 2021.

The Mumbai Indians are a team that knows what it takes to win. It may appear to be a basic and straightforward statement, yet it sums up the five-time IPL champs.  Last season, they proved once again why having a winning culture is just as crucial as maintaining a great skill set. Mumbai Indians won their fifth title in 2020.

The Mukesh Ambani-owned team, Mumbai Indians have been able to stamp their class and authority in the league as a result of the knowledge and techniques garnered from all five coaches—Lalchand Rajput, Shaun Pollock, John Wright, Ricky Ponting, and Mahela Jayawardena.

To suggest the Mumbai Indians were the most consistent team in the IPL 2020 would be an understatement. For a long time, they’ve been the team to beat. The Mumbai Indians’ success hasn’t come by surprise; their reputation as the most successful Twenty20 squad of all time has been earned over the course of nearly a decade, a journey that received an irreversible boost midway through the 2013 season when Rohit Sharma took over as captain from Ricky Ponting. The Mumbai Indians’ winning streak is not due to their ability to spend more money than their opponents, contrary to popular belief. The fact that all eight franchises get to use the same stadium is one of the IPL’s many unique aspects and proves that the winning team had no extra advantages as compared to the other teams.

People talk about role delineation, execution clarity, and purpose synchronicity. However, Mumbai’s insistence on stability has been one of the team’s greatest assets. It’s a trend that the Chennai Super Kings pioneered. However, unlike Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s squad, which continues to believe in products that are beyond their sell-by date, Mumbai is more sensible and cautious in its decisions.

To sum up the main reasons for Mumbai Indians’ repeated success over the years are having the same core team, impressive talent scouting, encouraging support staff, and a strong, but grounded financial base.

The sole difference between the Mumbai Indians and other clubs is that the latter has made good use of their resources. They’ve put their money where it counts. From scouting talent to acquiring the proper players to putting up strong support staff for the squad, it’s all part of the job.

Aside from financial assistance, their owners ensure that the players have time off and relaxation before a match. The players are never put under any strain and are always treated as a family.

  • The Compassionate Gesture by Former University President Kanta Gwala

Jodhpur (Rajasthan) [India], July 17: Given the oxygen crisis, the young charismatic leader, Kanta Gwala, and her NSUI team are putting in all their efforts to support India’s healthcare infrastructure. Heartbroken by the state of medical infrastructure in the country, the politician donated an oxygen concentrator Machine for the hospital located at her native Bhopalgarh, Rajasthan. The Oxygen concentrator Machine will generate oxygen to cure Covid 19 patients.

This initiative led by Former Student’s Union President Kanta Gwala and Students leader Chetan Gwala is inspired by State Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former parliament member Badriram Jakhar. The donation was made in the presence of Chief block Medical Officer Dr. Dilip Choudhary, Dr. Mukesh Dhaka, Dr. Hanuman Choudhary, Congress leader Shiv Karan Saini, Block Congress President Rajesh Jakhar, Mahendra Pratap Deora, Simbhubhai Prajapat, and many more.

The spirit of Kanta’s generosity is also prompting her village people to offer help in several other ways to fight the battle.  As such, the country’s healthcare system is reaching a breaking point, with basic things like beds and oxygen supplies running low.

Her donation of oxygen concentrator machine to hospital in its endeavour to procure and provide life-saving oxygen concentrators to hospitals across the nation in this time of need is incredibly heart-warming.

Kanta says that “I have helped by contributing to the cause and hope that their effort soon reaches out to many more. As the nation’s crumbling healthcare system struggles to cope, we hope that the oxygen tanks Singapore sent over will be of use. No matter what we may think of the situation in our country, we can’t deny that the people there need help, and we should do something if we can. The second wave of coronavirus has put citizens’ health and healthcare systems under immense pressure. Providing oxygen for a large number of serious COVID patients is the need of the hour.  It is heartening to see how people around us are rising to the occasion. The dangerous virus has once again risen to such an extent that now this pandemic is raging with much greater intensity. It is seen India’s healthcare infrastructure is at the stake and may collapse under pressure. Today, we have to stand together behind everyone that is working hard to fight this pandemic.”

This donation is undoubtedly a “compassionate gesture” as the country battles an acute oxygen shortage due to exploding Covid-19 cases. The locals from her village have regarded Kanta’s donation as, “An act of kindness that will surely go a long way.

  • Samurai eSports rakes Rs. 1 million prize money, Rs. 5 million in brand deals within four months

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 7: Mumbai-based Samurai eSports, a young company taking baby steps in the world of gaming, has got off to a dream start. The company, founded with the vision of creating successful teams across various gaming formats, has raked in Rs. 1 million in prize money and Rs. 5 million via brand deals in just four months since it came into existence.

The eGaming industry, though not new in India, was off to a relatively slow start in India, but it received a massive boost because of the COVID-19 pandemic as it forced millions of people indoors for several months. India ranks 16th in the global eSports landscape with annual revenue of an estimated Rs. 1.17 billion, but it is way behind the industry’s size in countries like China, the US, Japan, Korea, etc. Still, looking at the country’s demographics and a largely young population, the eSports segment is on the verge of a breakout and enter a phase of exponential growth.

The company’s team emerged the winner in the SKWAD Valorant Open, Lenovo Intel Valorant Open, and Gameon Valorant Tournament, and the Esportz Premier Series Qualifier #3. The team secured the second position in the Rooter Rise of Legends Tri-Nation Tournament involving India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, the Yuvin Community Cup Season 3, and SKWAD Invitational Season 2. Samurai eSports finished third in the Lethal Esports Invitational Season 1, AORUS x AMD Pro Series Valorant, and Penta Esports Valorant Invitational.

In addition to the prize money, Samurai eSports has also notched up nearly Rs. 5 million as brand revenue. The phenomenal performance has placed Samurai eSports in the top three earners among gaming companies in the country in this period.

“The team comprises some excellent gamers and has performed beyond expectations. We are confident the team will continue to improve its performance and come up with even better results in the coming tournaments,” says Samurai eSports founder Atif Kazi, who is also known as Samurai.

As eGaming grows further, the company aims to open new avenues and offer fresh opportunities to aspiring gamers. The company’s focus is on scouting for good players and training them to help them ace their play. Another noteworthy development at Samurai eSports is the inclusion of former TSM Entity and TSM FTX player Sid Joshi. Sid is known as an esports manager with a golden touch, and his association is expected to help the company create new records and achievements.

“We have bootstrapped this company and invested time and energy to find the right gaming talent to build a robust production team. The team is now helping us build notable teams across various eGaming formats nationally and internationally,’ says Premal Mehta aka TrAnZ, CEO, Samurai eSports.

Some of the noted players onboard Samurai eSports include Shobith Rai aka TbOne, Nishaant Williams aka Willy, Kaashvi Hiranandani aka Kaash, Mahek Syed aka Mizo, Simar Sethi aka Psy, and Karan Mhaswadkar aka Excali.
