Chirantan Ghosh, a computer science researcher and scholar

August 8: A computer science researcher interested in computer vision, data science, machine learning, and robotics, Chirantan Ghosh has dedicated most of his life to coming up with solutions to societal and scientific problems. The journey of Chirantan Ghosh is about passion, perseverance and humanity.

Ghosh found his interest in research work while pursuing a master’s at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Information Systems. A man of grit and determination, he soon enrolled himself in another master’s program in Computer Science at the University of Delaware. Ghosh channelized its passion for research to solve complex environmental, scientific and societal obstacles.

“Every youth is an asset to its society. Not everyone is privileged in this world, and achievements are to be carved out of situations. People can channel their achievements to benefit or utilize them for society’s welfare. It all depends on which path one chooses to walk. But the satisfaction and self-respect derived by serving for the greater good of the society are unmatched”, said Chirantan Ghosh.

The journey started while pursuing his master’s at the University of Delaware when Chirantan Ghosh was working on a project named ‘The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’ by the US Government. It involves predicting the event of surface runoff and its magnitude to alert the farmers.

Surface Runoff occurs mainly due to heavy precipitation leading to nutrients being washed away into the water bodies. It affects both the economy and the environment. It negatively affects crop production and profit due to the loss of nutrients from the agricultural fields. It also pollutes the water leading to harmful algal blooms and hypoxia in the Great Lake region water bodies. Thus, the alerting system is essential to prevent water pollution by mitigating the farmers’ effort, cost, and time. The existing physics-based model used by NOAA does not show good performance.

Therefore, his research aimed to improve the performance by utilizing a machine learning algorithm and risk level prediction of surface runoff. Ghosh predicts that this research can move toward deep learning and has a scope of improvement to enhance model performance.

With his thirst for knowledge and determined mindset, Chirantan worked on another project for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the US government. In this project, he used the deep learning-based multi-segmentation method to segment tiny RNA cells. This helps to automate the process, reducing the complexity of manually segmenting the cell wall and minimizing error and time.

These research experiences have motivated him to continue his studies for a doctorate in computer vision and deep learning at Lehigh University beginning in the fall of 2022. Chirantan will once more do research at Lehigh that will benefit society. One of his research projects will involve identifying fake news or videos from the plethora of online news available as videos or image content. This will help prevent or control the spreading of misinformation across the web and stop any damage that occurs.

His research skill and entrepreneurial mind have made him think about creating a startup named Camai.us, which is in the early stage. Camai.us plans to solve any object detection or identification problem like google lens but with better accuracy and on any device with a camera.

Chirantan’s concern for society and women’s security has pushed him to think about starting another organization named Hap.ai which will use computer vision and deep learning-based surveillance methods to detect and identify any threat and alert the appropriate organization to the subject in concern. It will help to overcome most of the challenges and security concerns related to women and promote a safe and healthy society.

Akshata Shete-Jadhav becomes the only woman Indian Gymnastics Judge at the Commonwealth Games

    Read Time:4 Minute, 45 Second

August 6: The Commonwealth Games 2022 will take place in Birmingham, England. There is big news for India in the field of Gymnastics. Akshata Shete-Jadhav has become the only woman from India selected to Judge at the Commonwealth Games 2022. She will be seen officiating the Rhythmic Gymnastics discipline, which gets underway on 4th August.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games in India was one of her first international tournaments as a player. Akshata represented the country at various international events, including the World Championships and FIG World Cup, captaining the Indian team at multiple tournaments. She has over 150 State and National Level medals.

Akshata says, “From an athlete to being a Judge and judging the athletes, it feels like a dream. As a player, I used to wonder what goes on on the Judge’s panel, and today, when I sit with my colleagues from different countries, I realize the importance of a Judge during competitions. At the games, the Judges have to report one day before the competition for podium training, where we observe all the athletes get a feel of the competition. At the Judges panel, there is tremendous pressure to give correct judgement to every athlete as a result completely depends on us.” – Best wishes to Akshata from Team India.

Akshata, like every other ordinary child, started gymnastics as an extracurricular at the age of five. Little did she know that this Sport would give her an identity, and with sheer dedication and hard work, she took up this Sport as a career. She played her first tournament at seven and won her 1st medal, which motivated her to train for 5 to 6 hours a day. With rigorous training and dedication, she became the Junior Champion for three consecutive years and Senior Champion for five consecutive years from Maharashtra. She is recognized as an International and National champion from India. Akshata has to her credit her Shiv Chhatrapati Award70 Gold medals, 60 Silver medals & 40 Bronze medals,

Akshata is an Asian Gymnastics Union Technical Committee member and recently has been elected as a member of the Gymnastics Federation of India. She is the highest category Judge in India and has judged top tournaments internationally and on the national stage. The accomplished athlete continues to support the Sport as a coach to many upcoming talents. She founded the Bombay Physical Culture Association Rhythmic Club in Mumbai 10 years ago, famously recognized as one of the top clubs in Maharashtra. Her club trains more than 150 students who have won numerous District, State and National Competitions medals. She says, “I believe the knowledge gained must be shared. Gymnastics has taught me the importance of hard work, patience, losing, recovering, winning, and most of all, keep learning every day”.

After the hardships I faced during my training, such as the lack of a coach with technical knowledge, a structured training system, and no correct infrastructure, I decided that no child would ever have to face such difficulties in achieving their dreams.

This Sport has grown from nothing to marking India’s name on the world map of Rhythmic Gymnastics through unimaginable struggle. India is bursting with talent, and it just needs structured guidance to shine at the International level and Olympics.

In 2019, she came to Pune with the mission of developing gymnastics in this city filled with a hidden talent. This is how Flamingo Gymnastics School & Research Centre, Pune, was born.

What Does Flamingo Gymnastics School Offer?

FGS is a gymnastics school that offers training programs for children aged three years for Recreational and Competitive Gymnastics in a fun but structured way. Gymnastics is known as ‘The Mother of all Sports. It has also gotten recognition from The International Olympic Committee as one of the foundation sports from which all others stem. This is so as Gymnastics helps a child develop strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, coordination, etc.

All classes offer a structured framework that includes yearly reports with feedback to parents, regular assessment of progress, and quarterly physical tests so that children get the chance to build character.

What Are We Trying To Achieve:

In India, it is often said that where there is infrastructure, there is no coach, and where there is a coach is no right infrastructure. We at FGS are implementing a structured training program, the right infrastructure, and standards required under the Federation guidelines.

Initially, we want children to enjoy the training and let them experience this beautiful Olympic Sport in a structured but fun-filled environment.

Those children who enjoy the Sport gradually start taking it seriously and eventually become champions. India is bursting with talent; with the right guidance and nurturing, and we believe we can change the face of Gymnastics in India.

We are committed to raising the standards of Gymnastics in India.

We are driven to create future champions who will represent India on various International platforms like; the Common Wealth Games, Asian Championships, World Cup, World Championship, and eventually the Olympics Games.

(L-R) Aayush Garg CTO and Dr Varun Garg CEO, DocPlix

New Delhi (India), August 6: Docplix as an idea was conceived in the year of 2020 amid covid pandemic at a small town of kashipur, Uttarakhand by Dr. Varun Garg (CEO) and Aayush Garg (CTO). Deaths all across the globe due to COVID exposed loopholes in the current health system. The inaccessibility of medical services in small towns, inefficient medical record keeping both at hospital and patient’s end, reluctance by hospitals to digitise their organisation, non-availability of drugs and many others proved that our current health system is still not ready to face challenges like COVID.

DocPlix is an on demand online health care platform which aims to make the Indian healthcare system more efficient, transparent and affordable. The vision is to make healthcare services available to every nook and corner of India and to make it simple. Docplix is working in both B2B and B2C areas.

In B2B, their target audience are doctors and hospitals. DocPlix has come up with the most comprehensive and secure Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Furthering the government’s idea (ABDM) of unique id for every Indian, DocPlix is making the digital health infrastructure integrated and interoperable. Leveraging the use of AI and technology, DocPlix EHR is not only making a doctor’s clinic digital but also smart thereby increasing efficiency of the doctor in treating his patient and making his clinic future ready.

In B2C, their target audience is majorly people residing in small towns of India for whom accessing expert medical care has always been a challenge. Through the app, a patient can store all his medical records in any format, can track his health and can store that data in secured form which is shared with his doctor in real time basis, avail online consultation, generate smart reports of investigations and much more.

The DocPlix’s ecosystem envisioned to create will make life of every Indian easy and the healthcare system future ready. Once a medical record is uploaded on the Docplix platform, patients and doctors can access the records after necessary approval anytime – anywhere making the whole system transparent and efficient. The medical data collected can then be utilized for various research purposes (after necessary government compliances) thereby reducing India’s disease burden.

Basseterre [St Kitts], July 13: For the first time in the history of cricket, fans will be allowed to make an on-field decision! Yes – you read that right: the latest version of the T10 format, ‘The 6ixty’, sponsored by SkyExchgives the fans to vote for one free hit per innings. And it is no surprise that this new format introduction has come from the West Indies, the pioneer of T20 cricket and the breeding ground for some of the world’s best short-format players.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has launched a T10 tournament named ‘The 6ixty’, the title sponsored by The SkyExch. The inaugural season will take place from August 24 to 28 in St Kitts, just before the CPL 2022 season. The tournament will feature matches between all six men’s franchises and the three women’s teams, with squads expected to be at 85% strength. It is a revolutionary format with brand new innovations which will take T10 cricket to the next level.

    – The 30 balls will be delivered as 5 separate overs, with no bowler able to bowl more than 2 overs for the innings.

    – If teams do not bowl their overs within the allotted time, a team member is removed from the field for the final six balls.

    – Fans will vote for the timing of a “Mystery Free Hit” where the bowler can’t dismiss a batter.

THE 6IXTY will hold its inaugural event from August 24 to 28 in St Kitts and Nevis at Warner Park, one of the world’s fastest scoring grounds. The 6IXTY’s future plans include the possibility of multiple events in various locations throughout the Caribbean and beyond.

“THE 6IXTY has come about because of a close collaboration between CPL and CWI, which is the way forward,” said Ricky Skerritt, President of Cricket West Indies. “I am very excited about the innovation, excitement, and entertainment that it will provide to fans.”

The tickets are available exclusively to Visa cardholders, with them going on general sale to all fans from Monday 11 July 2022.

Meet The Actor Manpreet Kaur Kaile Who Is A Perfect Example Of Beauty With Brains

    Read Time:3 Minute, 20 Second

Mumbai, July 2: Actor Manpreet Kaur Kaile is a rare combination of what we call ‘beauty with brains. Once aspiring to be an Aeronautical Engineering,  Manpreet Kaur Kaile never thought that one day she will leave America and land in Mumbai and pursue her acting dreams in Bollywood.

Manpreet Kaur Kaile’s music video ‘Chalo Theek Hai’ is about to release on the 4th of July which she can be seen featuring alongside singer, composer, and actor Amaal Malik. It’s needless to say that Manpreet is very excited about the release of her music video and waiting to know the response from everyone. Her ultimate aim is to work with all the prolific and newer actors/filmmakers alike and she is not afraid of being judged or criticized. She says, “I feel that constructive criticism is very much conducive to one’s confidence.”

While pursuing a course in Aeronautical Engineering from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in America, Manpreet Kaur Kaile realized that acting is her true passion. In a recent interview when she was asked about the one piece of advice she would offer to her 16-year self, she quickly said, “Just enjoy the process girl. Just take it easy. Don’t stress too much. You are going to make it happen. Just take it easy.”

Manpreet Kaur Kaile is not just another star-struck or Bollywood-struck person who has become an actor. She is the perfect example of ‘beauty with brains. When she was asked about the one legendary leader she wish she were able to meet, Manpreet Kaur Kaile replied saying, “I wish I got to meet the great leader Martin Luther King Junior. I am very much inspired by the Black Movement led by him. It is something very personal to me. Just the way he has led the Black Movement in the US history  is beyond commendable actually.”
She was also asked what if it would have been possible to go in times and date a man from bygone times and who would it be? Without blinking for even a moment Manpreet said, “John F. Kennedy because he was the President to start the space mission in the country (America) and subsequently able his country to land man on moon missions.”

And what if she is given a choice to choose between money and good looks? Manpreet says that she will choose money and if she wins a big lottery she would love to start her own production house. Manpreet Kaur Kaile is a romantic person by heart but when it comes to films she is not fond of romantic films but she likes action dramas.

Asked to rate one Bollywood actor who she would like to rate as a perfect 10? She says, “It’s Katrina Kaif. Whatever she has achieved in Bollywood as an actor is because of her talent and sheer hard work. She is phenomenal. Her success story is quite inspirational for everyone.”

Asked what is the best gift she has received till now? Manpreet got emotional and said, “My mother, hands down my mother. If I am here today, it’s because of her. I am the woman today because of her.” When Manpreet Kaur Kaile was asked what it means to be a woman in today’s age, she said, “That being a woman today, it means that being the most authentic to yourself. To love yourself and to love people around you. Be your voice and help others also to love your body the way it is, accepts it the way it is, and not give in to the norms of these misogynist beauty standards.”
