Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 6: Her admiration for the musical Mangeshkar family has made the country proud. Meet Anuja Rhythm Wagholikar, an art lover from Pune who for the first time produced and presented a coffee table book titled ‘Strokes of Harmony’, a collection of paintings by singer Usha Mangeshkar and other members of the Mangeshkar clan, including two masterpieces by the late Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar, which was released by noted painter Vasudeo Kamat in Mumbai on May 3.

“Through this coffee table book, I am rediscovering and sharing with your all, a side of me that I keep close to my heart,” Usha Mangeshkar, the voice of hit songs like “Mungda” and “Jai Santoshi Maa,” said at the book release event. “To become proficient in any art form, one must first study it in-depth and learn from the experts. The paintings in this book represent the pinnacle of my knowledge of this art style. This isn’t an entire work of art because no work of art can ever be punctuated with a full stop.”

All 129 artworks in the coffee table book were meticulously put together. Usha Mangeshkar painted the majority of the pieces, utilising a variety of styles and mediums. In total, there are 35 paintings based on water colours, 16 oil paintings, 28 pencil sketches, 7 oil pastels, 13 record covers, 21 landscapes, and 9 paintings by the Mangeshkar family in the collection. Anuja Bhosle and Ranjay Bhosle’s paintings, Usha Mangeshkar and Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar’s paintings as well as two masterstrokes by Lata Didi make this book a collector’s edition.

‘Every stroke in Usha Tai’s paintings bespeaks craft, elegance, dedication, completeness, and transmits a story that most likely will create a space in your heart forever,’ said Anuja Rhythm Wagholikar, the book’s producer and presenter from Pune. To be honest, picking a favorite picture from this collection is tough because each one is distinctive in its way, enormously different yet uncannily similar, both beautiful and infinitely uncommon.’

‘This book is a modest offering to our Maa Sarawati, the voice of the millennium, Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, in our small way,’ she continues.

The book release ceremony was held at Prabhukunj, the residence of legendary playback singer and Bharat Ratna Awardee, Lata Mangeshkar in the presence of noted personalities like Rachana Shah, Dr. Nishit Shah, Yogesh Khadikar, Adinath Mangeshkar, Sudhir and Anuradha Wagholikar, Prashant and Savita Dandvate, Akshay Wagholikar, Dr. Kiran Gupta and others.

Rhythm Wagholikar, a noted author , while introducing the book said, “The genius behind this book is Usha Mangeshkar whose paintings have the power to both find and lose ourselves at the same time. Well understanding the phenomenon that lies in the façade of Usha Mangeshkar is just like her art – empyrean and inexplicable’.

Strokes of Harmony is published by Latika Creations and beautifully designed by Nutan Asgaonkar.

Mayuresh Pai of Latika Creations said, “As a matter of fact this book is the materialisation of Lata Didi’s heartfelt wishes to put Usha Tai’s paintings out to the world which the latter had always hesitated to bring forth. I reminisce how things led to the present moment, as I bring the first offering by Latika creations – ‘The Strokes of Harmony.’

Why the world needs spiritual leader like Raseshwari Devi Ji?

    Read Time:4 Minute, 46 Second

May 5: The world always needs such souls who not only preach but practice the fundamental rules of divine virtues and spread the aroma of devotion around! Raseshwari Devi Ji is one among them.

    A brief introduction

Her Holiness Raseshwari Devi Ji is an expert in presenting simplified life solutions from the complex principles of Sanatan Vedic Philosophy. She is one of the foremost preachers of Jagadguru Kripalu ji Maharaj. She has guided millions of souls in her journey of a preacher since 1988. Devi Ji has established Braj Gopika Seva Mission in 1996 to spread the glory of Shri Krishna’s selfless devotion.

She is a gifted soul and Her Gurudev has inspired her to awaken devotion in the hearts of spiritual aspirants. She brings inner transformation into those who try on themselves but very often fail even on working upon their will power or determination.

Devi Ji is building holistic youth, children and adults by conducting various types of sadhana programs on self-improvement.

Practicing fundamental values of living from childhood

Right from childhood, she was fortunate to get association of the fifth original Jagadguru Kripalu Ji Maharaj. Her parents were dedicated Vaishnav and had deep affection for Gurudev. Hence, from her early days she is practicing all good values of living a spiritual life.

She recalls the days when her parents always gave a priority to the service of a Saint and then cared for their personal comforts. Sacrifice, compassion, love, humility, and tenderness are a few of the fundamental values of living which Devi Ji is practicing right from her childhood.

    Unnatural, yet a fact!!

Raseshwari Devi Ji is born on 12th January 1968 in Bhilai, Madhya Pradesh (India). She was hardly 21 days old when Jagadguruttam Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj came to Bhilai for a discourse. He met her parents very affectionately and delivered a prophecy about this little infant of 21 days- “When she grows up, she will spread Shri Krishna’s bhakti across the world.”

Shri Maharajji was immensely pleased to note the myriad of possibilities of an upcoming preacher in this little girl, gifted with sharp intellect and a brilliant memory. By His direct correspondence through letters, He nourished the tiny plant of devotion in her, which was to undergo vast expansion in the days to come.

A true seeker follows the instruction of His Guru

Devi Ji did her graduation in Mathematics from Bhilai University and thought to choose engineering as her career. She wrote about her plan to Shri Maharaj Ji and got a quick reply “No! You must do Post Graduation in English and prepare yourself as a preacher of mine.”

Following Shri Maharaj Ji’’s divine words, she completed her post-graduation. She learnt the divine knowledge of all sacred scriptures like Bhagwad Gita, Ramayan, Bhagwatam, Upnishads, Puranans, Vedas and also western philosophies and sacred text books of other popular religions and completed them in a span of six months.

On 15th October 1989, Shree Maharaj Ji graced her with the divine robes and declared her as a new preacher.

Uttishthata Jagrata- a journey of 3 decades

It is a mendate from her Guru, and a vow to take Sanatan vedic knowledge to every doorstep. She has travelled more than 9 lac kilometres to conduct 155 numbers of programs across 15 Indian states under the initiative of “उत्तिष्ठत जाग्रत”. Each program is of 21 days, which gives listeners the complete knowledge of Sanatan vedic Dharma in a capsulated form, transforming their perception towards their lives comprehensively.

“Materialism and spiritualism do not oppose each other. Materialism is for upkeeping your physical self and spiritualism is for the soul. One without the other is a disaster” Devijee says.

These salutary words appear to be panacea of turmoil, the world facing now.

    Empowering Youth

The nation is just an idea. If a nation is to be great, it needs great human beings. Deviji is tirelessly working on two initiatives named Baal Vikas Shivir & Yuva Utthan Shivir since 2006 with an objective of ingraining Indian value system right from the tender age. Uniquely qualified’- John Coates drafted letter of praise for himself to Brisbane Olympics organisers

    Read Time:4 Minute, 17 Second

New Delhi (India), May 3: John Coates, the outgoing president of the Australian Olympic Committee, drafted his own letter of recommendation stating that it was “hard to think of anybody better qualified in the world of sport” to be appointed to the organising committee of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Coates is Australia’s most celebrated official in the Olympic movement and a vice-president of the International Olympic Committee. He stood down on Saturday as president of the AOC after 32 years. He will become the AOC’s inaugural honorary life president after the 2024 Paris Olympics, when he stands down from the IOC. The life presidency role was written into the AOC’s constitution at last year’s AGM and Coates was formally awarded the position in March 2022.

An email sent by Coates on 1 April 2021, to Matt Carroll, the chief executive officer and vice president of the AOC, shows he drafted a gushing letter of recommendation that he be allowed to join the Brisbane Games’ organising committee when Coates becomes life president of the AOC. Coates asked that the letter be signed by Carroll and sent on to Peter Sheehan and Mark Cushing of BDO Consultancy, an accountancy firm involved in establishing Brisbane’s organising committee after it was awarded the Games. It is understood that the draft was reviewed and considered by Carroll before being sent. According to Coates the honorary position of life president does not carry any voting rights on the AOC Executive “but it will carry influence, if they want it, within the organising committee”. Coates has been heavily involved in Australian-hosted Olympics as president of the AOC, vice president of the organising committee of the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and deputy chairman of the candidate leadership group for the Brisbane 2032 Games.

The letter drafted by Coates for Carroll begins: “As you know, the Olympic charter and the Olympic hosting contract provide that the AOC should be represented at the Brisbane Ocog [Organising Committee of the Olympic Games] by our president, currently John Coates, and me as CEO (secretary general).

“After 31 years, John will not contest the presidency when his current term concludes at the AOC AGM in May 2022. So he will hold the NOC president’s position on the Ocog until then and be replaced by whoever is elected as AOC president.”

The letter goes on to note that “it is likely” that the AOC executive will appoint Coates as its honorary life president at some time in the future and urges them to include a position for the veteran sports administrator on the organising committee.

“I am attaching John’s long-form CV and particularly refer you to his Rowing, IOC, Australian Olympic teams, Olympic bids, Socog, Icas/Cas and other sporting events,” it continues. From these I hope you and the OCLG [Olympic Candidature Leadership Group] will agree that John is uniquely qualified to continue to add value to the Brisbane Ocog following the conclusion of his membership as an independent IOC member at end 2024.

“Indeed, it is hard to think of anyone better qualified in the world of sport. Accordingly, you and the OCLG are requested to include a position for AOC honorary life president on the Ocog commencing on the conclusion of his membership as an independent IOC member.”

On 25 March 2022, almost 12 months after the letter was sent by Carroll, Coates was appointed to the honorary life president role by the AOC executive committee.

In a statement, the AOC said: “The AOC members overwhelmingly decided in 2020 to change the AOC constitution to create the honorary life president role and the AOC executive unanimously agreed to appoint John Coates to the role on 25 March 2022. The role will not come into effect until after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“For clarity, the AOC executive may choose to appoint either the president or the honorary life president to one position on the Ocog, while the chief executive officer will be the other AOC representative. That will be a decision for the AOC executive after Paris 2024,” they said.

“For further clarity, the contents of the letter addressed to BDO Consultancy do not propose that Mr Coates be made honorary life president of the AOC. The letter proposes, as indicated above, that the role of honorary life president of the AOC could be included on the Ocog board after the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 and that John Coates would likely be appointed to that role.”

A lawyer acting for Coates said: “Mr Coates has not breached the AOC’s rules or processes, and we refer you to the AOC CEO to verify this.”

Ian Chesterman, who served as Australia’s chef de mission to six winter Olympics and is AOC vice president, will succeed Coates after defeating former Olympic swimmer Mark Stockwell by 67 votes to 26 in a vote at the AOC’s annual general meeting on Saturday. IOC president Thomas Bach, who travelled to Sydney to attend the AGM, congratulated Chesterman and hailed Coates, saying he was “leaving the AOC in a great state”.

  • How you can join Guria in its fight against sex trafficking

How you can join Guria in its fight against sex trafficking

    Read Time:3 Minute, 28 Second

May: Ajeet Singh was all of 17 when he first came to the rescue of a sex worker’s children. That was way back in 1988. For almost 25 years, he has dedicated his life to fighting child prostitution, trafficking of women and girls for sex and other second-generation prostitution.

“We do everything possible to rescue a girl and convict the brothel keeper and the trafficker. What will you do to take care of your own child? Won’t you hold them safe with both hands; do everything possible to protect them? Won’t you take a bullet for your child?” asks Ajeet Singh, Founder, Guria

The first significant experience of rescuing child victims of sexual abuse was in 1999 in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, when the children’s father was the culprit himself. Many people indulge in sexual exploitation because of supposed traditional practices among a few communities, and for economic reasons. In 2005, a rescue operation in Varanasi’s red-light area was able to free forty-nine women and girls, including minors, from different brothels. Many people were convicted in the case. With these cases, Guria established itself as the pre-eminent nonprofit in Uttar Pradesh working for the victims of sexual exploitation.

While Ajeet and his Varanasi-based organisation have saved over 5000 women and girls from sexual exploitation and slavery, made Varanasi’s red-light area the first child prostitution-free red-light area in India, and fought hundreds of cases in various courts against very powerful people without worrying about his own safety, the going has been challenging for the last two years.

Guria says that funds have been hard to come by because of the pandemic, and keeping the good fight has become increasingly difficult. Ajeet Singh needs your support to continue working and replicate a holistic end-to-end strategy to save and protect sexual exploitation victims, help prosecute traffickers and brothel-keepers and carry out witness protection programmes. In association with GiveIndia, India’s largest crowdfunding site, Guria has launched a fundraiser soliciting funds from ordinary people to meet its requirements .

Guria also provides education, food, vocational training and legal help for survivors against traffickers and brothel keepers.

Many survivors are grateful for Guria’s support. For instance, Ramala, a Nepali woman from the Varanasi red-light area says, “Sir ji (Ajeet Singh) has continuously been fighting for us, and now we are much safer from the tyranny of pimps, traffickers, brothel-keepers, criminals etc. We were brought as small girls in this hell, but thankfully, there are no younger girls in the flesh trade.”

Guria provides livelihood support for the survivors by training to work in existing businesses, like poultry, farming, tea shop, general store, vegetable vending, taking up new businesses like auto-driving, setting up flour mills, or even training them for government jobs. It also provides vocational training for survivors to become beauticians, nurses, electricians, photographers, caterers, and for other professions.

    Fundraiser on GiveIndia

In order to meet the expenses of Guria, the online crowdfunding website GiveIndia has launched a fundraiser for Guria. The funds raised will meet expenses, for books and stationery for children attending mainstream schools in red light areas, nutritional support, vocational training/livelihood support to at-risk children of the red light areas and vulnerable villages that openly practice prostitution, legal help to fight traffickers and brothel keepers in 21 focused districts and reaching nine states to rescue and awareness activities.

Hundreds of people from across the world are donating to the cause through crowdfunding. You can visit the site and donate to Guria.

Doctor at Sakra World Hospital invents a new form of Arthroscopy knot – The Banarji’s Knot

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 2: Dr BH Banarji, Senior Consultant, Department of Orthopedics of Sakra World Hospital has created a milestone in arthroscopy by inventing a new form of effective, simple and durable method of knotting, known as the Banarji Knot. This knotting method is a low profile, non-bulky, more secure, double slide locking knot which can be utilized in arthroscopic surgeries. It has been used in more than 250 surgeries till date and has been found to be very effective. The analytical research study on the Banarji’s Knot is published in the Journal of Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine in October, 2021.

Banarji Knot, an idea initiated to benefit the patient’s surgical outcome, is specifically used for arthroscopic surgeries – knee or shoulder repair, where tendon repair or ligament repair is needed. This knot was aggressively tested by a bio medical testing lab at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and approved by the authorities for surgical procedures and proves to be better than other existing prevalent knots.

Arthroscopic knot tying is a crucial component for a successful arthroscopic surgery. For an effective knot in the arthroscopic procedures, it is important for a knot to possess the following characteristics such as, ease of application, reproducibility, ability to slide through arthroscopic cannulas, ease of setting the lock, knot profile, and reliable initial security. Banarji knot effectively qualifies all the above characteristics and it is easy to learn, master, and reproduce.

Speaking of the advantages of the Banarji Knot, Dr. B H Banarji said, “It is my pleasure to introduce you to Banarji Knot, aneasy, reproducible knot that can be beneficiary for patients undergoing keyhole surgeries of shoulder and knee. This knot was invented and innovated during this pandemic, After an extensive research process, 5-6 knots were brought in form and this knot was finalized. Compared to other knots, Banarji Knot consists of simple procedures that can be learnt and implemented in a very short span. The loop strand passes through two loops once it’s tightened and locked at different points, thus making it stronger and increasing its tensile strength. The knot also is designed with a low profile, thereby it doesn’t create any bulky knot, which leads to impingement.”

Dr Banarji B.H is a renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon specialised in the field of Shoulder and Upper limb disorders and Arthroscopy & Sports medicine. He is one of the most renowned surgeons in the shoulder & Upper limb sector. He was one of the first surgeons to perform key hole surgeries of Shoulder and Elbow joint in Karnataka and since then, has performed a huge number of keyhole surgeries which includes, Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair, Arthroscopic Bankart repair, Arthroscopic Frozen Shoulder Release, Arthroscopic Shoulder Decompression, Arthroscopic Nerve Release, Arthroscopic Bone-block Reconstruction and Shoulder replacement Surgeries like Total Shoulder Replacement, Reverse Shoulder Replacement and Total Elbow Replacement.
