  • Gayatri Mohanty, The inspiring journey of a corporate banker turned fitness enthusiast

Gayatri Mohanty, The inspiring journey of a corporate banker turned fitness enthusiast

    Read Time:4 Minute, 22 Second

March 25: “Nothing is impossible; there are routes to any destination, and if we have the will, we should always have sufficient resources.” We frequently use the word “impossible” as an excuse,” according to Gayatri Mohanty, a former professional banker with 12 years of experience in the corporate banking sector who left her job to follow her aspirations and career in the fitness industry.

Gayatri did not transform from a professional banker to a fitness enthusiast overnight. It required a great deal of courage and commitment for her to leave her well-compensated banker career and pursue her calling in the world of fitness. Gayatri was born in a small town and was raised in a conservative setting. She was expected to obtain an education solely for marrying, giving birth to children, and settling down with her family. Gayatri belonged to a weaker section of them, forcing her to submit to patriarchal conventions.

“While working at a desk banking job and taking care of my family, I could not engage in much physical activity. With the guidance of my coach, I joined a gym to engage in some strength and endurance-building workouts. I embarked on a 9 km overnight trek six months later. Astonished by my endurance, my guide urged me to take on more difficult excursions. This was a significant first step in the exciting journey I was about to embark on. After that, I made a 70-kilometre Chadar trip in just six days in Ladakh, one of the most arduous in the region. We were 11000 meters above sea level, where it was -33 degrees. A broken wrist only made things more difficult, but I didn’t quit. Instead, I fell in love with trekking since it had awoken a hidden beast inside me that is always ready to fulfil its thirst for trekking,” says Gayatri, a mother of a beautiful son.

Her father is a rock for Gayatri, who looks to him for advice and guidance. In every aspect of my life, he (father) was there to support and guide me. He compelled me to join the NCC when I was about 17 years old. At this point, I can confidently claim that this was the beginning of my transformation. Being picked for the Rajpath marching squad was considered a significant accomplishment when I was younger. My leg palm required eight stitches after an accident occurred during exercising. Because I was a female cadet, I was subjected to sexism and harassment simply for being a good cadet. However, I never allowed any of it to influence me, and no one could ever make me lose my self-belief. Despite my injury, I completed the Rajpath March, which gave me more confidence.”

Gayatri, who is an MBA in Banking and Insurance, is an ISSA certified fitness trainer, a certified Zumba and Ace trainer, a solo Himalayan trekker, Motivational speaker, Model, Actor, and Writer. As of now, she has completed over 8 treks, including the ascent to Everest Base camp situated at 5,346 meters, Nangkar Tshang Peak at 5,077 meters, Kalapathar at 5,500 meters, Mount Elbrus at 5,642 meters and Mt. Kilimanjaro at 5895m.

Gayatri began her life as a regular Indian Bahu (daughter-in-law) in an orthodox and traditional family. She was content, though, that she was permitted to labour beyond the four walls. “Kehte hain na, aasman se tapka aur khajoor pe aatka, wahi hua mere saath, wahi hua mere saath.” I functioned like a ‘kolhu ka bell- aur sab baja rahe the’ inside and outside the house. I was managing everything efficiently (or so I thought), but my entire family were less than appreciative of my efforts. I did that for ten years. However, neither they nor I were content.”

Between the role of a wife, daughter-in-law, mother, and employee somewhere, she lost herself. Her son also needed his mother. She stopped communication with a few of her family members as they had no love and concern for her. After juggling through many thoughts, she decided to put the last nail in the coffin of her suffering. She left the monotonous banking job and started a second round of the journey.

Gayatri is also a motivational speaker at various organizations and educational institutions, acted in a short film based on mental health in 2020, the jury for beauty pageants, modelling for beauty brands, and has authored many articles for fitness magazines.

She was honored with International Women Achiever’s Award 2019 by 108-year-old Padmashri awardee and environmentalist Vrushamathe Saalumarada Thimmakka, South India Women Achiever’s Award 2020, and International Women Achiever Award by Smruti Saddhna 2021.

“Compassion, not compromises, are what I require as a woman. I’m looking for understanding, not dismissal. I’ve never allowed my abilities to be harmed by circumstances. I’ve retraced my life’s priorities and strengthened my resolve to face any problem. I’m rash and caring at the same time. I’m fearless but cautious. I am a 21st-century woman who is powerful and self-assured.” Said Gayatri.

The DCGI (Drug Controller General of India) approved TB drug, pretomanid, for conditional access under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP), can play a significant role towards elimination of highly drug-resistant TB in India

Pretomanid is a ‘made in India’ product used as part of a six-month treatment regimen with reported efficacy of 90%; has potential to contribute to India’s ‘TB Elimination program by 2025’

New Delhi, India March 24: The world continues to battle against pandemics, including COVID-19 and tuberculosis (TB). March 24, marks World TB Day and TB Alliance, a global not-for-profit organization, is joining with partners around the globe to raise awareness of one of the world’s oldest diseases. TB had been the world’s leading infectious killeruntil COVID-19. This new pandemic has shown that new tools, diagnostics, drugs, and vaccines can be quickly developed and deployed with the adequate funding and political will. The same resources are needed to bring the TB pandemic under control and make progress toward a TB-free world.

In July 2020, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) had approved the TB drug pretomanid (developed specifically for certain drug-resistant forms of the disease) for conditional access under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP), making India the second country in the world to provide regulatory approval for this product.

On the occasion of World TB Day, Sandeep Juneja, Sr. VP, Market Access at TB Alliance, said“New regimens are urgently needed to treat this deadly infectious disease, especially drug-resistant forms of TB which have a history of poor cure rates and treatments with often intolerable side effects. We welcome the fact that more than 30 countries, including India, have obtained pretomanid-based regimens to treat highly drug-resistant forms of TB.TB Alliancestands ready to work side by side and learn from India and every other country seeking to implementnew TB therapies. Our job is not done until each treatment we develop is accessible to every person who needs it.”

A government-led study of the regimen in India called *mBPaL commenced in October 2021 and is now enrolling patients at three sites out of a planned 11. It is scheduled to reach its primary completion in 2023 after enrolling 400 patients.

TB Alliance manages the largest portfolio of TB drug candidates, with more than 30 projects under active development. Its researchers and research partners are working to advance the development of new TB compounds and medicines, with a goal to develop a short, simple, and affordable TB regimens suitable for all people with TB.

To date, 17 countries or regulatory bodies, including India, have approved pretomanid as part of the BPaL regimen for the treatment of patients with highly drug-resistant forms of TB. Regulatory applications have been submitted to another 13 countries and counting by Viatris, TB Alliance’s global commercialization partner for pretomanid as part of the regimen. Viatris is joined by Macleods, Lupin, and Hongqi Pharma in holding licenses for pretomanid in countries with high TB burdens.

Data from TB Alliance’s ZeNix trial of the BPaL regimen, presented in 2021, demonstrated improvement in the safety and tolerability of the BPaL regimen with alterations in linezolid dosing with sustained favorable outcomes in 89 precent of all participants.

Though important advances have been made in recent years, the need to invest in TB research and development is even more apparent amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which has already reversed hard-won progress against TB. In 2020, the world saw the first increase in TB deaths since 2005, and a 15 percent reduction in the number of people treated for drug-resistant TB.

Bringing the TB pandemic under control can only be realized through global commitment and collaboration. TB Alliance is committed to contributing to this aspiration by inventing novel therapies that radically reshape the treatment landscape and save lives.

*BPaL regimen combines the antibiotics bedaquiline (B), pretomanid (Pa) and linezolid (L)

Dr. Ravi Badavath, founder of Mission Walk is on a mission to cure patients suffering from neurological disorders

    Read Time:2 Minute, 44 Second

March 24: Despite an exponential rise in neurological disease, there is a scarcity of information about the rehabilitation needs of people with disabilities, particularly those who have suffered spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, strokes and Children with birth deformities. Paediatrics, in India, where such patients face numerous barriers to access rehabilitation services. Meet Dr. Ravi Badavath, who worked tirelessly for years to establish an organization ‘Mission Walk’ aimed at catering to different rehabilitation needs of patients of all age groups suffering from a neurological disease with passion and utmost care.

Mission Walk, the brainchild of Dr. Ravi Badavath, serves each patient with special attention and provides them with inexpensive long-term treatment facilities, thus reaching out to more people than just the rich. As a result of a lack of sufficient care and treatment, such people are subjected to unwelcome neglect. During these times, Mission Walk works hard to achieve its mission of rehabilitating neurologically wounded individuals so that they can walk again and live side by side with the rest of us.

Dr. Badavath’s journey was a difficult one. He started with 15 patients as he was aware of the fact that each patient requires special attention when it comes to neurological concerns. Even the timeline of recovery is fragile and long. It was then that Dr. Ravi decided to establish an organization that could cater to different rehabilitation needs of patients with passion and utmost care.

    A man on a mission.

Dr. Badavath noticed how badly the country’s infrastructure for neuro patients was lacking. Furthermore, physiotherapists received only a limited amount of training in this area, and there was a paucity of data-based research in the sector. These factors had stifled any further advances in the field of neuro patient care, as well as any changes in their day-to-day living conditions. However, the gaps inspired Dr. Badavath to take the lead, and in 2016, he opened a rehabilitation facility in Hyderabad to provide world-class rehabilitation services for neuro patients in India.

Mission Walk has achieved the reputation of being an expert in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation as a result of a great deal of hard work and dedication. It treats patients with a variety of illnesses, including spinal cord injuries and other issues, brain injuries, stroke, and so on, within its broad scope. The organization’s competent workers’ reputation, as well as its world-class services, quickly spread. In recent years, Mission Walk has seen patients from all around the world. It is credited with treating patients from India, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.”

With the mission and vision of providing quality care and rehabilitation to patients suffering from neurological disease, the Mission Walk has identified professionals from across the country and recruited the best physiotherapists from the nook and corner of the country.

Dr. Chinu Agrawal, Director of Feeling Minds hosted a certification ceremony for a one-of-a-kind Relationship Consultant workshop

    Read Time:1 Minute, 41 Second

New Delhi (India), March 24: Feeling Minds, a leading organization committed to psychological counseling and psychology-based training, recently held a Relationship Consultant program Certification Ceremony at Radisson Blu Plaza, Delhi for the workshop attendees. The certification ceremony was based on a 6-month Relationship Consultant workshop course that included several role-plays, supervised peer counseling sessions, and an assessment of movies and books from a relationship perspective which was attended by counselors from all over the country.

Dr. Chinu Agrawal, Ph.D., a leading Psychologist, Psychotherapist, and the Director of Feeling Minds stressed why she planned the workshop “There was often chatter among the counselors about the dearth of thorough relationship therapy training in India and that I should design one. However, designing a course for an Indian audience was difficult because I had received all of my training and courses from abroad, where the culture and challenges are vastly different. To finish the assessment, it took me and my team roughly four years to conduct research on the Indian population and frame an Indian adaption of the many instruments. The training provided participants with a scientific, evidence-based approach, enabling them to assist couples and families in nurturing and maintaining their relationships.”

She further added “The workshop explored love theories, laying a solid intellectual framework. Various strategies were used in the couple’s treatment to help the clients understand their own emotional needs and how unmet needs can lead to anxiety or withdrawal. Another key component was family therapy, because families, particularly in a country like India, play a crucial role as a support system.”

Participants who excelled in the workshop and completed it with flying colors were presented with a certificate at the ceremony:  Ambika Warrier: Delhi, Dr Tripti Sakhuja: Delhi, Dr Bindu Kapoor: Delhi, Dr Richa Singh: Delhi, Sai Sudha: Delhi, Aruna: Guwahati, Nandita Sarma: Dibrugarh, Aakriti Sethi: Ludhiana, Nimisha Saboo: Amravati, Suruchi Khare: Yavatmal, PratikshaTripathi: Mumbai, Megha Jain: Gurgaon, Tyan Jain: Gurgaon, Needhi Agrawal: Amravati, Ashish Agrawal: Amravati and Ravindra Jindal: Agra.

Kumar Nishant with Dr. M Tamilvanan, IPS. Senior Superintendent Of Police, East Singhbhum

India, March 24: This Holi 2022, the fabulously skilled singer Kumar Nishant decided to spread the colours of awareness through his new song ‘Colour With Care’. The song has been written, composed and sung by the artist himself. The song was launched by Dr. M Tamilvanan, IPS. Senior Superintendent Of Police, East Singhbhum. The administration appreciated his effort in making such a beautiful song with the message of awareness.

This is an excellent initiative by the artist Kumar Nishant in collaboration with the Jharkhand Police. The music is available on Youtube and audio platforms like Spotify, Wynk, jio saavn, gaana, Amazon music, resso and other music streaming apps. The music video is impactful, especially due to small messages shared by the Jharkhand police force. The importance of dialing 100 immediately when things don’t feel right is stressed and is urged to be used by the women through the medium of the song Colour With Care.

The singer-songwriter is a great zealot of the thought, ‘Power Of Music’ and hence says,” In this era where nobody is a fan of lengthy speeches, music is the most relevant and robust mode of expression and communication.”

When asked the reason for creating this song, the singer said,” The sole purpose of making this music video was to convey the importance of women’s safety, especially during the festivals like Holi where the crowd becomes an advantage for some ill-mannered people.” Writer, composer and singer Kumar Nishant is known for penning down some great pieces of music with deep, relatable meaning to them. He started his journey by initially writing poems. His first poetry book based on love, separation and relationship named “Tere Bina” was launched in 2017.

Available on Flipkart, Amazon, Google, rekhta and all leading book stores of India. People’s love and appreciation fueled his journey and encouraged him to write more and present it to the people using social media. After relentless hard work, White Hill music approached him for writing lyrics; there, he wrote and composed two beautiful songs named “Tere Bina & Tu Hi Sach” Both the songs became hits and were loved by music lovers of all genres.

The word artist fits Mr. Kumar Nishant, instead of a singer or a writer in particular, as he is a rounder when it comes to anything regarding music. He’s always said and believed in the mantra of ‘consistency is the key to the pinnacle of success.’ As a result, there is always some great content lined up from his side to entertain and educate the viewers and listeners. The artist gave some insights about his upcoming release, including Bollywood songs, his new book and some fabulous singles. Hence, knowing how people have changed their method of expression to music now, the artist said that he had made this music piece colour with care, with a lot of responsibility.
