KP Group chief Faruk Patel sets a new and to be adopted trend of celebrating marriage by treating with grandeur at Marriott Hotel.

Surat (Gujarat) [India], August 13: Happiness grows by sharing – many people believe in these words, but an industrialist from Surat has gone a step further to apply them in real life.

Industrialist Faruk Patel, who helms renewable energy major KP Group, hosted a lavish lunch at a luxurious 5-star hotel to mark his son’s marriage on August 10 with 150 specially-abled children and 90 old-age home residents. Following Covid protocol and SoP, KP Group served the best of food and service like dignitaries to make the event and day memorable for these people.

Faruk Patel, son Affan, daughter-in-law Shaba Amin, and other family members and friends personally welcomed the special guests at the Marriott Hotel and served a sumptuous lunch to them. The guests sang songs, danced to Garba tunes, and showered their wishes and blessings on the newlyweds.

“I have no words to describe the feeling, but we felt blessed to have been able to bring smiles on the faces of so many specially-abled children and nursing home-resident grandparents. The occasion became all the more memorable because of their presence,” said Faruk Patel. “We did celebrate this event with our friends and folies. We divided different groups each day to meet Covid guidelines; this day and event have been the most memorable in life to treat with care. These specially-abled kids looking for better prospects and these special grandparents who need warmth from us,” added Mr Patel.

Rachna Tailor, daughter of Padma Shri Awardee and Founder President of Disable Welfare Trust of India Kanu Tailor, expressed gratitude towards the Patel family for inviting the specially-abled children for the celebration.

“Our trust has been existing for 25 years, but this is the first time we invited children to a 5-star hotel like this,” she said.

Raju Bhagat of Modheshwari Old Age Home appreciated Faruk’s exemplary gesture and lauded him for showering love and affection on senior citizens, many of whom have been forsaken by their own families.

KP Group’s CSR arm KP Human Development Foundation donated Rs. 1 lakh each to Disable Welfare Trust of India, Modheshwari Old Age Home, and Ambika Niketan Old Age Home on occasion. Faruk Patel also announced the Foundation would support two specially-abled children who aspire to become Chartered Accountants.

After having the time of their lives, many guests had tears in their years at the moment of parting.

  • Mega fruit tree plantation drive commenced for preserving natural habitat for animals

    • A sustenance movement inspired by Mohanji and being led by Ammucare Charitable Trust in India and ACT Foundation globally.
    • Drive to provide fruits of kindness to generations of beings beyond species; aiming to complete the 1L mark by the end of 2021

New Delhi [India], August 12: Increasing deforestation and disturbances to ecological balance by humans has affected wildlife and beings of forests. Mohanji, a humanitarian and founder of various non-profit movements across the world, has inspired Ammucare Charitable Trust, a non-profit founded by him in 2003, to launch a sustenance movement called Fruit Tree Plantation Drive that will have an extraordinarily positive impact on our environment and all beings. By providing natural food sources from fruit trees, this drive will help retain the natural habitat for wild animals. The team is also collaborating with communities, government/ semi-government organisations or institutions for boosting plantation efforts. Fruit trees will be chosen as per the location, climate and soil condition and those with longevity to last for generations.

“Fruit tree plantation is not just an act of kindness; it is a social responsibility. This plantation is giving the fruits of kindness to the coming generations beyond species. Fill the forests with fruit trees. Plant more fruit trees in and around your city. It brings sweet grace to our lives beyond time” – Mohanji.

The drive had already been kickstarted by Ammucare Charitable Trust earlier this year, with the active support of the Mohanji Foundation. So far, the trust has planted over 15,000 saplings across the country in various states, including Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Odisha, Jammu & Kashmir, to name a few. The Fruit Tree Plantation Drive has received accolades and acknowledgement from local governments, administration and ministries. The same movement is also being conducted globally by ACT Foundation, a sister organisation of Ammucare founded by Mohanji, with the same objectives.

The livelihoods of millions of people in India, its entire ecosystem and the lives of billions of animals depend on trees and forests. Despite this, as per government data, 14,000 square kilometres of forests have been cleared to make way for thousands of industrial projects over the past 30 years.

In contrast, the environmental impact of planting trees speaks for itself: planting trees is particularly useful in filtering and improving air quality – a mature tree can sequester up to 48 pounds of carbon per year. Restoring forests will improve the lives of the estimated 275 million Indians that depend on them.

In particular, a focus on fruit trees goes over and beyond the regular benefits of afforestation. Animals often come out of the forests due to lack of food and end up being attacked or killed. Fruit trees planted in areas adjacent to forests will provide enough food for various beings of the forest, enhancing their safety.

Planted fruit trees will be the community’s property, and that means additional income to all its members, not just a source of food. This will ensure the availability of free food for everyone, people and animals, for generations to come. The drive aims to make sure that future generations have a world to live in – this begins with planting fruit trees – One Fruit Tree at a Time. Our children, our future are being inspired to participate actively in this drive, with schools in various locations coming forward to join hands.

The organisers have estimated the cost of planting a tree, inclusive of all the protective covers and preparation, at around Rs 1500/ tree, and an additional cost of Rs 4500/tree for nurturing it for the first three years of growth. More details about the drive are available at https://fruittreeplantation.org or via email at treeplantation@ammucare.org.

“We invite all the members of our community, both corporate investors and individual supporters, to donate generously and propel our effort to revive and restore forests in India. We will celebrate our donors through the media in various ways. The whole of India should recognise who their true heroes are. Together we can make sure that our future generations have a beautiful world to live in” – Soma Seal, President (Ammucare Charitable Trust).

  • Blending innovation in governance, an Bureaucrat in Telangana Initiates Mask-making Jobs and 10 Bed ICU; Shortlisted for PM Award

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 9: Indian bureaucrats are often touted as people who are wary of innovations with little care about the community. However, some defy the trend, pioneer innovations for the society, and are in true terms — “for the people”.

Narayanpet DM, Hari Chandana Dasari, is one such name well-known for social initiatives, ranging from healthcare to education; rural employment to sanitization, and much more. More recently, DM Hari Chandana initiated the launch of a 10 Bed ICU, at District Hospital, Narayanpet, Telangana. The project was a first of its kind, launched in a private-public partnership, with the support of state government and a group of NGOs, to combat the pandemic.

It was inaugurated by IT Minister KTR virtually on June 6th, 2021. Dr. Hari Chandana Dasari is one of the members of the Project Management Unit which is working towards rolling out the 10 Bed ICU to not just other districts, but across the entire nation.

When the economy was reeling under the pandemic, this Narayanpet collector aimed at building a business opportunity and engaged around 4000+ women in mask-making endeavours. In just a year, the enterprise made a profit of Rs 50 lakh. The district of handloom weavers with no work and the dead stock became a unique challenge during the pandemic. But even in adversity, Hari Chandana’s initiative to launch handloom masks uplifted the entire district from poverty. She believes that development has to start from the grassroots level, and that is the reason almost all of her initiatives are geared towards uplifting the marginalized communities.

Hari Chandana is the only officer from Telangana to get shortlisted for an award under the ‘Innovation in Governance’ category; because of her initiatives that blended hard work with a creative touch since her days as a Zonal Commissioner. Right from maintaining cleanliness in villages and towns to spearheading the construction of 35000 Individual Sanitary Latrines (ISLs) in urban areas, she is considered a model bureaucrat by many.

While the list of her initiatives is never-ending, she has spearheaded the recycling and reuse of 35 Metric tonnes of plastic, around 38 “Feed the Need” fridges, 5 theme parks, and 4 composts. She has also facilitated 85 lakh plantations across the district, 326 plus community toilet complexes, 65,000+ individual toilets, 280 dump yards, and 200 segregation sheds in villages, while 47 villages constructed modern crematoriums at their cost.

Her visionary support and foresight led her to bag ‘The Social Impact Award’ by the British Council, where she was chosen by nearly 1,500 alumni who nominated her for the honour, acknowledging her exceptional contribution in facilitating transition with a social cause. DM Hari Chandana is also shortlisted for the prestigious Prime Minister’s Excellence in Public Administration 2020, along with 12 other public officials in the country.

  • IDT’s Tribute to the Weavers on National Handloom Day!

Surat, Aug 7: India is the only country that still creates textiles coming from the genius of its master weavers having a great combination of creativity, focus, patience and concentration. Despite such obvious and impressive strengths, India has not been able to ensure sustainable and satisfactory livelihoods for handloom weavers.
Hence, with an objective to encourage the artistry of the weavers, acknowledge their contribution & augment their pride in representing the Indian textile culture, the first-year students of IDT have crafted a 3*2.5 ft handmade loom using cardboard & jute ropes & have tried to weave a piece of fabric with colourful yarns. Its display was conducted at a city-based designer clothing store, Asar Graceful Lifestyles. The entire process was a 2-day affair under the mentorship of Ms. Aarushi Upreti and the students correlated with the efforts, the hard work & sweat put in by the craftsmen while creating masterpieces.

The director of IDT, Mr. Anupam Goyal addressed, “We always talk about crafts & beauty of the final garment but we never talk about the problems faced by the craftsmen, like long work hours and strenuous activities put weavers at risk for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), predominantly low back pain, etc. The handloom industry is the second biggest income generating source in India after agriculture. This Industry can generate and sustain employment for millions of people. Also, in these days of energy crisis and global warming, it is essential to encourage the eco-friendly handloom industry. Hence we urge the government to focus on strengthening the existing skills of the weavers of India!”
This handloom day, let us aim to protect this heritage and keep alive the richness and diversity of our country.
