  • PM Modi to Head Tree Plantation Drive Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ on World Environment Day

PM Modi to Head Tree Plantation Drive Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ on World Environment Day

New Delhi [India], June 4: PM Modi will inaugurate a major green and urban renewal campaign on June 5, 2025, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts towards sustainable development on World Environment Day. The agenda for the day includes the inauguration of a tree plantation drive as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and the flag-off of 200 electric buses in the country’s capital.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also plant a Banyan sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, New Delhi, at about 10:15 AM. The event, powerfully symbolic and deeply rooted in culture, will also directly add to the larger Aravalli Green Wall Project, a pioneering ecological restoration program designed to revive India’s oldest mountain range.

Building India’s Green Spine: The Aravalli Green Wall

The Aravalli Green Wall Project spans a 700-kilometre ambitious extent, covering a 5 km wide buffer zone in 29 districts of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The project aims to address land degradation, enhance green cover, and restore the ecological balance of the Aravalli ecosystem through afforestation, reforestation, and the restoration of water bodies.

Through the enhancement of soil fertility, increased groundwater levels, and enhanced resilience to climate change, the program is likely a pillar supporting India’s mission to combat desertification in the western plains. It also focuses on people’s participation, generating employment opportunities through eco-jobs and encouraging partnerships at the local level with the environment.

The involvement of the Prime Minister is likely to draw national attention to the importance of ecological balance and sustainable environmental action. His participation encourages the culture of “Sabka Prayas”, a united resolve toward sustainable development.

Promoting Green Mobility: 200 E-Buses for Delhi

In a parallel push for clean urban mobility, PM Modi will also flag off 200 electric buses under the Delhi Government’s sustainable transport program. This initiative is part of a larger push to transform Delhi’s public transport into a zero-emission, technologically advanced network, aligning with India’s broader climate targets.

These new electric buses will serve as a green infrastructure model for metropolitan cities. Built for efficiency, accessibility, and environmental sustainability, the fleet is likely to minimise vehicular emissions, reduce air pollution, and be a scalable model for other Indian cities.

The twin emphasis on reforestation and electrification demonstrates the government’s integrated approach to meeting the net-zero emissions goal by 2070. This pledge positions India at the forefront of global climate action.

PM Modi | Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: A Campaign of Heart and Heritage

The Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, literally ‘A Tree in the Name of Mother,’ encourages every Indian to plant a tree dedicated to their mother, combining ecological activism with emotional appeal.

By attaching a personal value to every plantation, the campaign hopes to activate millions in a grassroots green initiative. The event is not only a ceremonial function by the Prime Minister but also a call to action for all citizens, recalling India’s ancient traditions of living in harmony with the environment. Environmentalists have welcomed the move as both an emotionally appealing and ecologically prudent initiative, especially in light of India’s increasing urban presence and the need to reclaim natural spaces, which is imperative and urgent.

A Unified Step Towards a Sustainable Future

As a duo, the tree plantation and electric bus projects are about to celebrate World Environment Day 2025 with symbolic importance. They are a concrete guarantee of sustainability, social participation, and visionary urban development.

They are also part of larger national strategies, such as the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and the Green India Mission, aimed at creating a future where growth and protection march hand in hand.

The action reminds us of how the collective habits, including tree planting, adopting clean transport, and preserving nature, can influence the fate of a country.

    Looking Ahead

With PM Modi at the helm of this twin-fold green mission, India is well-positioned to convert symbolic action into sustained environmental change. As citizens, corporates, and communities unite behind these initiatives, World Environment Day 2025 might just be remembered as a turning point in the country’s environmental history.

  • Greenman Viral Desai to Launch 7-Day Tree Plantation Drive on World Environment Day

Greenman Viral Desai to Launch 7-Day Tree Plantation Drive on World Environment Day

Surat (Gujarat) [India], May 30: Renowned environmentalist and social activist Viral Desai, fondly known as the “Greenman,” is set to launch a seven-day tree plantation campaign starting June 5, marking World Environment Day. The initiative will see 1,000 trees planted across Surat and Navsari as part of his ongoing mission to foster ecological responsibility and civic unity.

Rooted in Desai’s long-standing environmental movement, ‘Satyagraha Against Pollution and Climate Change,’ the campaign carries forward his vision of turning ideology into tangible impact. To date, the movement has mobilised over 2 lakh green volunteers and facilitated the planting of more than 6.5 lakh trees across Gujarat.

“This year, our campaign is inspired by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, as we commemorate his 150th birth anniversary,” said Viral Desai. “His ideals of unity, cleanliness, and harmony with nature continue to shape our work.”

A Living Tribute with Strategic Impact

The plantation drive will cover key areas including Maroli, Kadoli, Sarthana, and Sachin, focusing on ecological enrichment in urban and peri-urban pockets. These locations have been identified for their potential to benefit from enhanced green cover and biodiversity.

The campaign goes beyond symbolic planting—it is a calculated effort to build climate resilience, promote civic engagement, and pay homage to India’s green heritage. By involving local government bodies, youth groups, and community organisations, Desai aims to ensure the long-term survival and growth of the saplings.

“What we’re planting is not just a tree,” Desai emphasized. “It’s a living legacy—something future generations can be proud of.”

Viral Desai to Plant 1,000 Trees with Youth Volunteers

    Green Cities: Urgent and Essential

As India’s cities expand rapidly, the role of green urban spaces is more critical than ever. Trees serve as natural infrastructure, mitigating heat islands, improving air quality, and supporting local ecosystems. Desai’s campaign serves as a powerful reminder that urban greening is a necessity, not a luxury.

    Youth-Led, Community-Driven

A hallmark of Desai’s movement is its strong youth engagement. This year’s initiative will involve students, NSS units, colleges, and youth clubs through the innovative “Plant & Pledge” model, where each participant plants a sapling and takes a sustainability oath. The effort aims to deepen environmental consciousness and create a generation of green ambassadors.

From Local Action to National Inspiration

By drawing on Sardar Patel’s legacy of unity and discipline, the campaign reinforces the idea that environmental stewardship is a national duty, not just the work of a few. Desai’s efforts stand as a beacon of hope, offering a replicable model of grassroots climate action in an era of growing ecological urgency.

    Join the Movement

Residents of Surat and Navsari are invited to participate in this week-long green drive. Every sapling planted is a step toward a stronger, greener, and more united India.

One tree. One volunteer. One mission. A greener India begins June 5.

  • Greenman Viral Desai to Launch 7-Day Tree Plantation Drive from June 5

Greenman Viral Desai to Launch 7-Day Tree Plantation Drive from June 5

Surat (Gujarat) [India] May 29: Environmentalist and social activist Viral Desai, popularly known as the “Greenman”, will begin a seven-day tree-planting campaign on June 5 in observance of World Environment Day.

Desai’s unwavering commitment to urban greening and conservation is evident in the effort to plant 1,000 trees in Surat and Navsari.

In addition to increasing the amount of greenery in the Maroli, Kadoli, Sarthana, and Sachin regions, the campaign will raise public awareness of citizens’ ecological responsibilities.

“This year, our campaign is inspired by the life and ideals of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose 150th birth anniversary we commemorate,” said Viral Desai. “His emphasis on cleanliness, unity, and environmental harmony continues to guide our work.”

A Tribute Rooted in Action – Viral Desai

This campaign is neither a symbolic act; it is an extension of Desai’s larger dream, Satyagraha Against Pollution and Climate Change, a movement that has mobilised more than 2 lakh green volunteers and resulted in the planting of over 6.5 lakh trees in Gujarat. By basing his mission on action, Desai continues to bring ideology closer to impact, especially by engaging the youth and student groups in environmental causes.

The movement is much more than just planting saplings. Its tripartite purpose aims to increase climate resilience, promote civic involvement, and pay tribute to India’s green past.

The idea that ecological stewardship is a national duty, not just the domain of environmentalists, is also reinforced by this.

Green Urban Spaces: A Necessity, Not a Luxury

Amid the rapid development of Indian cities, the importance of green urban spaces cannot be overstated. Trees are a natural infrastructure that can decrease heat islands, improve air quality, and enhance biodiversity.

The campaign is very strategic, focusing on areas that will benefit from increased ecological enhancement. In addition, local government and community organisations are being engaged to ensure the saplings survive and grow, thereby incorporating public responsibility into the initiative.

“What we’re planting is not just a tree,” Desai said, “but a future. A living legacy. Something generations after us can thank us for.”

Inspired by Sardar Patel, Driven by Unity

The theme of unity shines brightly in Desai’s message this year! The campaign skilfully makes the connection between environmental and national unity by showcasing the principles of Sardar Patel, who played a crucial role in uniting India following independence.

Desai’s ecological mission feels more relevant than ever because of Patel’s unwavering commitment to order, cleanliness, and discipline.

Viral Desai to Plant 1,000 Trees with Youth Volunteers

Mobilising the Next Generation – Viral Desai

One of the most remarkable aspects of Desai’s green projects is his ability to inspire young people. His projects have regularly included leaders and volunteers from surrounding colleges, businesses, and student unions. The movement ensures development and sustainability by providing young people with the necessary resources and increasing their awareness of environmental concerns.

NSS units, youth clubs, and community organisations are anticipated to participate in large numbers in this year’s campaign. Every participant takes a sustainability oath and plants a sapling as part of the “Plant & Pledge” format introduced by Desai’s team.

    Long-Term Vision, Tangible Impact

The Greenman’s latest endeavour comes as climate talks are becoming more urgent. These kind of grassroots initiatives serve as the cornerstone of localised climate action in India, particularly as global temperatures rise and natural habitats are threatened.

Conclusion: A Greener, Stronger India Begins With One Step

As World Environment Day 2025 approaches, Viral Desai’s tree-planting initiative reminds us that significant changes can begin with small, consistent actions. In addition to honouring nature, his project puts it at the centre of civic duty and national cohesion.

Residents of Surat and Navsari are cordially invited to participate in the campaign, plant trees, and, above all, have faith in the potential of one tree, one volunteer, and one mission for a greener India, which begins on June 5.

Two of the key accomplishments are the PM Janman Yojana, the government’s flagship program, in which housing and medical facilities are given to the poor, and the Dhartii Aaba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, an all-encompassing rural development scheme. The project also aims to build roads, homes, and hospitals in 60,000 villages, with around ₹80,000 crore for development,as per government plans, paving the way to a promising and inclusive future.

The first of these locomotives was ceremonially inaugurated by the Prime Minister, who referred to it as a “symbol of national pride.” The setting up of the factory is also expected to generate a huge number of local jobs as well as spur allied industries.

New train services, such as the Vande Bharat Express from Ahmedabad to Veraval and an express train service from Dahod to Valsad, can provide increased mobility and economic development. Gujarat has achieved complete electrification of the rail network, a grand success in green transport.

India’s rail industry is growing as a global exporter while addressing domestic demands.  Make in India initiative has reportedly seen traction, with interest from countries like Saudi Arabia, France, and Australia importing Indian rail machinery.

    Strategic And Cultural Significance

The Prime Minister underlined India’s cultural resilience and resolve to fight terrorism, as well as economic interests.  In his thoughts, he described Operation Sindoor as “an expression of Indian values and emotions” and a military operation.  The operation, carried out in retaliation for a dastardly terrorist attack, showed India’s military readiness and moral fibre by eliminating nine terrorists in 22 minutes.

He also valued Dahod’s grit in the past, referring to the sacrifice of freedom fighters like Govind Guru and Tatya Tope, as well as ancient sages such as Maharishi Dadhichi.

Trust The Citizens Of Dahod – Viksit Bharat

While summing up, PM Modi again expressed his faith in the people of Dahod. He announced, “This is just a glimpse of Dahod’s capabilities,” and challenged the people of this tribal hinterland to grab every opportunity to join hands in making it one of the most developed districts of India. This appeal generates a sense of participation and belonging in the audience.

Gujarat remains the leader in the semiconductor, IT, and aerospace sectors. Dahod’s change is one of the larger national narratives where clarity, trust, and tireless effort give us a Viksit Bharat Dahod.

PM Modi Reveals Development Projects in Bikaner Worth ₹26,000 Crore.

Bikaner (Rajasthan) [India], May 22: During a significant mission to Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started, dedicated, and opened development projects in Bikaner worth ₹26,000 crore.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s rapid progress in infrastructure, clean energy, railway modernisation, and national security while speaking to a large crowd, including dignitaries from 18 states and union territories.

    Unprecedented Investment in Bikaner, Rajasthan

PM Modi described the ceremony as a historic milestone towards establishing a Viksit Bharat, meaning outstanding change in roads, railways, airports, and renewable energy. “In the last 11 years, work has been done at a pace never before to develop modern infrastructure,” he added.

The prime minister revealed some good news while discussing India’s increased emphasis on infrastructure: the country is now spending six times as much on development as it did previously! He cited ground-breaking initiatives demonstrating India’s remarkable technological breakthroughs in various settings, such as the Chenab Bridge, the Sela Tunnel, and the Atal Setu.

Rajasthan is among the biggest gainers of this spurt, with nearly ₹70,000 crore having been invested in road infrastructure over the past 10 years and another ₹10,000 crore for railway development this year. The state’s connectivity will soar with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor.

    Railway Modernisation and Cultural Integration

One of the highlights of PM Modi’s address was the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the first-of-its-kind scheme in which 103 revamped stations in 86 districts were inaugurated. One of them is the Deshnoke station in Rajasthan, which was built using a temple architecture design to honour local heritage.

The scheme has been a significant step towards modernising Indian rail, improving travel conditions and promoting local tourism. The railway industry has made tremendous functional improvements, coupled with cosmetic improvements, like electrifying the track over more than 1,000 km and improving freight efficiency using specialised freight corridors.

Power Projects and Green Energy Transition

Prime Minister Modi aimed to increase energy self-reliance by launching transmission lines and solar projects in Bikaner, Neemuch, and Udaipur. Over 40,000 homes in Rajasthan have benefited from the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which has enabled people to earn money from solar energy and lowered electricity expenses.

Operation Sindoor: India’s Strong Stance Against Terrorism

On the security front, the Prime Minister spoke emotionally about the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, asserting that India responded with decisive force through Operation Sindoor, which targeted and destroyed nine terrorist bases in under 22 minutes.

“Our Government gave a free hand to the three Armed Forces, and together they created such a ‘Chakravyuh’ that Pakistan was forced to kneel,” he declared. Stressing India’s new anti-terror doctrine, PM Modi outlined three principles: swift retaliation, immunity from nuclear blackmail, and no distinction between terrorist groups and state sponsors.

Additionally, he reaffirmed that commerce and communication with Pakistan are off the table, emphasising that the main topic of conversation would be Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.  India’s dedication to its national security and the welfare of its inhabitants is demonstrated by this position, which is a reaction to Pakistan’s ongoing support for terrorism.

Focus on Youth, Industry, and Heritage

Bikaner and its surrounding areas are poised to experience significant industrial and economic enhancements, particularly within the food processing sector, facilitated by the global branding of Bikaneri Bhujia and Rasgullas. It is projected that the refinery project in Rajasthan and the construction of new industrial corridors would make the state a major centre for logistics and petroleum-based businesses. PM Modi sent a strong message as he wrapped up his speech:

“Swear by this soil, I will not let the country fall, I will not let the country bow.”

After the military intervention, his initial rally in Bikaner underscored the government’s dual commitment to national security and inclusive development, reinforcing India’s emergence as a confident global power.

BRICS Energy Meet 2025: India Champions Inclusive Energy Future

New Delhi [India], May 20: During a significant demonstration of leadership, India advocated for an inclusive, sustainable, and secure global energy future at the BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting held in Brasília, Brazil, on May 19, 2025. Indian Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, led the Indian delegation and stressed the need for improved cooperation among BRICS countries to attain long-term growth and energy stability.

Under Brazil’s leadership and the inspiring theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” the conference warmly welcomed energy leaders from BRICS countries, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Together, they gathered to engage in crucial discussions on energy security, climate change, and the deployment of clean technology.

    India Highlights Clean Energy Advances

During his address, Shri Manohar Lal emphasised India’s ambitious endeavours in clean energy.

These initiatives encompassed: A 90% increase in electricity capacity over the past decade, reaching 475 GW by 2025, with an ultimate objective of achieving 900 GW by 2032; emerging as the third-largest generator of solar and wind power on a global scale; accomplishing a 20% ethanol blending in fuel, thereby augmenting biofuel consumption and contributing to reductions in emissions; significant investments in intelligent grids and next-generation metering technologies, such as the Green Energy Corridor; and ambitious plans regarding green hydrogen and nuclear energy, to attain a nuclear capacity of 100 GW by 2047.

The establishment of India’s indigenous Carbon Credit Market was also highlighted, alongside an invitation for international partnerships.

He further underscored India’s leadership in energy efficiency, spotlighting initiatives such as the Energy Conservation Sustainable Buildings Code, the rollout of rooftop solar systems, and standards for energy-efficient appliances.

    Energy Security & Technological Neutrality

The Union Minister warmly reaffirmed how important it is for everyone to have access to energy that is not only affordable but also utilises a wide range of technologies to tackle global energy challenges.

He emphasised the importance of renewable energy while noting that the developing world still has a central role for fossil fuels. In his appeal, he urged technologies such as coal gasification, carbon capture, and green chemicals to encourage cleaner energy consumption across the globe. He underlined that energy transitions should be fair, just, and specific to the unique circumstances of each country, reflecting the concept of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities (CBDR-RC).

Highlights from the BRICS Joint Communiqué

The communiqué issued after the gathering emphasised some common objectives:

“We’re excited to see enhanced energy cooperation among BRICS countries and the promotion of open, non-discriminatory energy markets. Increasing the use of local currencies in energy trade will help boost economic sovereignty for all involved.

We are also committed to implementing DG 7 to provide everyone with universal access to energy and clean cooking and to eliminate energy poverty. A strong partnership via the BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform and the newly approved BRICS Energy Cooperation Roadmap 2025–2030 is an essential step in that direction. We seek to double energy efficiency by 2030 and extend clean energy with concessional finance across the Global South. We support aligned carbon intensity analysis, fair taxonomies, and strong sustainability certifications.”

Moreover, the communiqué highlights the NDB’s pivotal role in facilitating infrastructure investment financing using local currencies.

    Previewing India’s 2026 Chairship
