Shankar Lalwani, Member of Parliament, Launches Website on Sickle Cell Anemia

Two-Day Program Conducted on Sickle Cell Day to Raise Public Awareness

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 10: Indore, Madhya Pradesh witnessed a two-day program under the aegis of Ayush Medical Welfare Foundation and Advanced Homeo Health Center & Homoeopathic Medical Research Pvt Ltd Indore to mark Sickle Cell Day. The event aimed to raise public awareness about sickle cell anemia, a genetic disease that has been causing distress to patients and their families. Member of Parliament Shankar Lalwani, during the program, launched a website (www.sicklecell.co.in) created by Dr. AK Dwivedi, which contains comprehensive information about the disease.

Until recently, sickle cell anemia remained relatively unknown in Indore, but with growing concern from the Prime Minister and the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, public awareness has become crucial. Sickle cell anemia poses significant challenges for patients and their families, with limited success in conventional medical treatments. However, Dr. AK Dwivedi, an expert in homeopathic medicine, asserts that homeopathy can alleviate the problems faced by sickle cell anemia patients. As a nation known for its youth, it is imperative to educate and create awareness among the younger generation about sickle cell anemia. Additionally, Dr. Dwivedi recommends conducting blood tests and matching blood reports before marriage to prevent the transmission of sickle cell anemia to future generations.

MP Shankar Lalwani addressed a workshop on the significance of homeopathic medicine in sickle cell disease on Sunday, coinciding with World Sickle Cell Day. As the chief guest, Lalwani inaugurated the two-day program held at the Advance Ayush Wellness Center and Advance Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital in Greater Brajeshwari Pipliyahana, Indore. During the event, he officially launched the website www.sicklecell.co.in, designed by Dr. Dwivedi to provide comprehensive information on sickle cell anemia.

Renowned psychiatrist Dr. Vaibhav Chaturvedi from Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, Indore, attended the program as a special guest. Dr. Chaturvedi highlighted the distress experienced by the patient’s family members, stemming from the financial burden of treatment and the mental anguish caused by frequent blood transfusions and hospital admissions, which often leads to depression.

Dr. AK Dwivedi, a member of the Central Council for Homeopathic Research in the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, presided over the workshop. Dr. Dwivedi discussed the symptoms of sickle cell anemia, such as weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, and difficulty performing daily tasks. He emphasized the effectiveness of homeopathic medicine in addressing these issues, noting that long-term homeopathic treatment eliminates the need for repeated blood transfusions and enables patients to resume their daily activities. The workshop witnessed significant attendance from youth and medical students, who also underwent free blood tests. Additionally, participants actively engaged in environmental conservation by planting pomegranate and gooseberry plants.

Following the program, a free homeopathic camp was organized in the village of Badgonda, Mhow tehsil, where homeopathic medicines were distributed after careful examination of sickle cell anemia patients. Attendees were also provided with detailed information regarding diet, yoga asanas, and daily routines to manage the disease effectively.

The program was conducted by Deepak Upadhyay, with Dr. Vivek Sharma expressing gratitude for the event.

  • Bartan Bank Revolution: An Innovative Step Towards a Green India

Bartan Bank Revolution: An Innovative Step Towards a Green India

Hockey Wali Sarpanch Neeru Yadav handing over Utensils under Bartan Bank initiative

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], July 7: India is currently grappling with a significant environmental challenge: the country produces an alarming 62 million tonnes of plastic in the form of disposable plastic crockery. A staggering 92% of this plastic ends up littering our streets and waterways, as it’s discarded without being recycled. This is due to the slow decomposition rate of plastic and a culture that has become reliant on disposable items for convenience.

Disposable plastic crockery has become a go-to for many due to its affordability, especially during large events, marriages and gatherings, a common part of Indian culture. The convenience of disposable utensils also appeals to many, as they require minimal effort to transport and dispose of.

However, the Indian Government, led by Shri Narendra Modi, has been making strides towards reducing this reliance on plastic. Their ban on single-use plastic has made a considerable dent in reducing plastic waste, although illegal black markets persist due to a sudden implementation of the ban and the lack of easily accessible alternatives.

In an effort to bring about a change, the Aditri Foundation has joined hands with a village in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, led by their innovative leader, the ‘Hockey Wali Sarpanch’, Mrs. Neeru Yadav. Drawing inspiration from India’s past, where a culture of cooperation and sharing prevailed, they have established a “Bartan Bank” (utensil bank). Borrowing utensils from relatives during large celebrations was common, promoting societal harmony and discouraging wasteful practices. This initiative is an innovative step towards reviving that culture, in addition to combating the menace of disposable plastic crockery.

In the village of Lambi, under the leadership of Mrs. Yadav, villagers can now borrow steel crockery free of charge for their events, providing a sustainable alternative to disposable plastic items. This initiative not only reduces plastic waste but also revives the communal sharing practices of yesteryears. Under this unique initiative by ‘Hockey Wali Sarpanch’ Neeru Yadav and the Aditri Foundation, about 14 marriages and mass gatherings have been organized by using the ‘Bartan Bank’ facility. In this unique facility, about 1000 plates, 2000 bowls, 2000 glasses, 2000 spoons and 50 jugs are donated by Sarpanch Neeru Yadav for making the village ‘garbage free and plastic free’.

Mrs. Neeru Yadav’s innovative approach shows that community-led efforts can greatly help in moving towards a more sustainable future. Scaling up such initiatives could serve as a way to bridge the gap left by the ban on single-use plastics, enabling a swift transition to environmentally-friendly alternatives.

Bartan Bank is more than just an open utensil bank; it is a symbol of India’s steps towards sustainability and an example of community spirit in action. As Mrs. Neeru Yadav asserts, it is about reviving the lost traditions that once served our society and environment so well. It’s time to turn the page on disposable plastic and usher in a new era of sustainability and community cooperation.

Under her leadership, the Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO) is established and this FPO works towards boosting farmers’ income by organizing them into cooperatives, enabling them to collectively bargain for better prices for their produce. FPOs also assist farmers in accessing credit, seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs more easily, thus reducing their dependence on intermediaries. Neeru Yadav, with her experience in managing social change in the village, is ideally positioned to ensure the success of this initiative.

Another initiative championed by Neeru Yadav is the establishment of ‘Water ATMs’ in her village. These automated water dispensing units provide clean and safe drinking water to villagers, reducing the prevalence of water-borne diseases. Installed in public spaces, the Water ATMs are accessible 24/7 and charge a minimal fee, making them a sustainable solution to the village’s water needs.

Mrs. Yadav has also shown her commitment to sustainable agriculture by promoting organic farming practices. She has arranged workshops and training sessions on organic farming methods, encouraging farmers to switch to these practices. The objective is to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, thus preserving soil fertility and protecting the environment.

In her mission to improve the health and nutrition of her village, Mrs. Yadav has also initiated a mid-day meal scheme in the local schools. The initiative involves providing hot, nutritious meals to the students, promoting better health and improving school attendance rates.

Neeru Yadav’s inspiring work extends to energy conservation as well. She has led an initiative to replace conventional streetlights in the village with energy-efficient LED lights. This measure not only conserves energy but also reduces the village’s electricity expenses, thereby freeing up funds for other developmental projects.

Through her innovative and dedicated leadership, Neeru Yadav has shown that effective, sustainable change can be brought about at the grassroots level. Her various initiatives underscore her commitment to the overall development of her village and the welfare of its inhabitants. Each initiative, from the Bartan Bank to the FPO, serves as an example for others to emulate, contributing to India’s journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.

  • NAFED and Wendor Unite to Promote Millet-Based Products Across India: One Vending Machine at a Time

NAFED and Wendor Unite to Promote Millet-Based Products Across India: One Vending Machine at a Time

National Agricultural Cooperative for Marketing Federation (NAFED), along with the front-running vending-machine company, Wendor, team up to support the International Year of Millets initiative.

Under this initiative, Wendor has installed vending machines stocked with a variety of millet-based products in key government buildings like NITI AYOG, Shashtri Bhawan, ICAR, MOFPI, APEDA, Udyog Bhawan, etc.

This collaboration is not only revolutionizing the vending experience of India’s public sector but also nurturing the elements of climate-resilient agriculture and a cashless economy.

A Vending Machine Solution for a Sustainable Future

Millets, often called Nutri-cereals, have high nutritional value. They are not very water-intensive and can flourish even in harsh conditions of droughts. It is, therefore, strongly being promoted as the crop to fight climate change, and Wendor is walking hand in hand with the Government to achieve this goal.

Wendor has set up over 25 smart vending machines in crucial government locations like Nirman Bhawan, Vanijya Bhawan, ONGC, FDA Bhawan, Dak Bhawan, Transport Bhawan, Akashwani Bhawan, Cabinet Secretariat, Rail Bhawan, DST, CBI offices as well as the Dhyanchand Stadium and NDCC. This is not just enhancing the customer experience of the government employees but also sending a message loud and clear to the nation.

These are transformational times. A time to adopt cut-edge technologies. It a time to use such technology to save our fragile Mother Earth. And vending machines are providing those precise solutions for ensuring sustainable development while maintaining an elegant standard of living.

Hence, the Wendor-NAFED tie-up showcases a model of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) that is the need of the hour right now if we wish to achieve the goals of a comfortable but climate-friendly consumer experience.

Transforming the Image of India’s Public Sector

The traditional ‘sarkari’ image of India’s public sector has often been old-fashioned and backward. But today, that image is changing, and developments like establishing vending machines in government buildings are contributing significantly to that new image of India.

While the government is fully supporting this modern rebranding, Wendor is providing leading assistance. It is not simply installing the vending machines in these key locations but also taking complete charge of their maintenance and customer support.

Moreover, this rebranding is not just external but also transforming the work experience of the public sector internally. A vending machine well within their office area ensures timely (and healthy) breaks, ensuring higher employee productivity. This also makes the workspace more exciting and innovative. Cashless and smart vending options offer further convenience for employees.

A representative from Wendor rightly sums it up as “With our vending machines in these important places, we’re making life simpler, work smoother, and positively changing daily routines.”

One Stop Solution for Quality, Convenience, and Comfort

Wendor is reaching every nook and corner of India, trying to bring a vending revolution in the nation. The company understands the numerous benefits that a vending machine can offer to its users- a premium consumer experience being the most important one.

Even the management experts recommend such refreshment points inside the offices. They offer short breaks to the employees, reducing worker fatigue. This, in turn, incentivises better performance and productivity.

Wendor knows this management hack and knows how to care about the workforce too. Therefore, it is passionately trying to provide vending solutions to a diverse set of consumers, government agencies being the newest participant in this endeavor.

So, Wendor offers a variety of vending machines, offering choices in sizes, costs, and customization. In terms of sizes, the options range from Wendor Atlas and Wendor Slim to Wendor Mini. Varieties are also available in refrigerated (Wendor Frozone) and non-refrigerated options (Wendor Ambient). Above all, Wendor specializes in customizing the machine as per your need. The customization can be in terms of the size of the display screen, hardware of the machine, and software as well.

There are multiple options in terms of products dispensed by these machines too. While machines selling millet products are emerging as a primary attraction in government buildings, Wendor also provides machines dispensing snacks, hot and cold beverages, sanitary napkins, etc. Above all, these options are available at a wide range of prices too.

In short, every vending need of a workspace, of an employee, can be catered to through these modern machines.

    Conclusion

The United Nations declared 2023 as the International Year of Millet after India’s strong and long campaign. NAFED has been assigned the important responsibility of promoting the sale of millet products, and collaborating with the private sector is a pragmatic step. Wendor, on its part, is playing its role as the “perfect vending partner- a one-stop shop for all vending needs”.

Raksha QR- Innovative Tool to Enable Emergency Care Response

New Delhi (India), June 17: Road safety is no less than a global pandemic as it’s the leading cause of death and injury across the world. As per the latest statistics, road traffic injuries are the principal cause of death in the age group of 15 to 49 years. Every year the lives of approximately 1.3 million people are cut short globally as a result of a road traffic crash.

India, with one of the largest road networks in the world, ranked on top of the table in the number of road accident deaths across 199 countries and accounts for almost 11% of the accident-related deaths in the World. Every year, approximately 1.5 lakh people die on Indian roads, which translates, on average, into 1130 accidents and 422 deaths every day or 47 accidents and 18 deaths every hour. It’s a serious concern for our country with severe socioeconomic costs.

In India, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) also has implemented a multi-pronged road safety strategy based on 4-Es, namely Education, Engineering (both roads and vehicles), Enforcement, and Emergency Care.

In any road accident, the post-crash timely rescue plays a critical role in ensuring lower fatality and property loss. As per WHO, post-road accident response time is one of the five pillars of improving road safety. This involves multiple stakeholders, including Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Firefighters, Police, Transportation agencies, Towing vehicles, and so forth.

In the case of India, out of our current death toll of 1.5 lacks every year, nearly 50% of lives can be saved if the accident victims get timely help in Golden Hours. This is only possible if bystanders act as Good Samaritans and take prompt action to inform emergency conditions nearby hospitals and police and provide first-aid to the injured or can rush them to the nearest hospital if an ambulance does not arrive in time.

While inaugurating the RakshaQR, Mr. Akhilesh Srivastava, Road Safety Ambassador, who led this World Economic Forum pilot of Road Safety 2.0, said that theoretically, it seems feasible that Bystanders will act and provide the necessary support, but practically, it is not possible unless we help the Bystander with some technological intervention. And that is the philosophy of Road Safety 2.0 to use technologies to improve road safety.

A young & promising startup Highway Delite came up with this innovative solution and has launched RakshaQR, an emergency response assistance product, where the bystanders can just scan the accident victim vehicle’s RakshaQR and can report the accident to the family person of the victim through call. The call will be connected over a virtual number, thus keeping the privacy of both the informer and the victims’ family person. At the moment of this accident report call, highway delite takes the location input, and their backend call centre team informs the nearby hospitals and police station, keeping the information private.

RakshaQR enables vehicle owners to register with Highway Delite and add their personal information, including blood group, vehicle insurance, medical insurance, and family emergency details. All this information is secured and encrypted and be visible only to the family emergency contact through SMS in case of an accident intimation call or to the registered vehicle owner as a part of their RakshaQR profile.

Mr. Kiran Kapila, President Emeritus, International Road Federation (India Chapter), while inaugurating, said this is a brilliant step towards improving one of the 5Es of Road Safety. He brought out that IRF(IC) is already doing a Bystanders Training Program, and the RakshaQR will add great value to it.

Mr. Akhilesh Srivastava encouraged the stakeholders to create more technology-enabled solutions to connect the Digital Bystander. He said MoRTH should give limited API-based access to Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) System so that this can be used by such innovative Startups to save lives on highways. Highway Delite brought out that in the next phase, they plan to create a complete digital track record of intimation to availability of emergency care response from hospitals/trauma centers/ambulances and also to connect insurance companies.

RakshaQR also helps vehicle owners to get a notification in case of unattended vehicle scenarios including wrong parking, unauthorized parking, and vehicle-related issues (fuel leak, windows open, keys left), wherein the bystander/ traffic police can inform vehicle owners about any of the above scenarios through Call/SMS by scanning RakshaQR with a basic scanner from their mobile phones. Raksha QR system is developed to work in a web environment, and both the Bystander and vehicle owner are not required to download any kind of mobile application. This vehicle notification feature of RakshaQR can be used by all types of vehicles, including 2-Wheelers, 4-Wheelers, and Commercial Vehicles.

Mr. Akhilesh Srivastava concluded that this is just the first phase of RakshaQR, and in the subsequent phases, they should enable much more and bring a connected and digital way of responding with timely medical assistance for accident scenarios through real-time integration with ambulances, hospitals, vehicles OEMs, police stations, NHAI, PWDs, and other motor and transport departments.
