    Surat (Gujarat) [India], March 18: The city-based Preksha Seva Foundation celebrated Gujarat Pradesh BJP President CR Patil’s 69th birthday by opening Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana accounts for about 100 girl children.

    Preksha Seva Foundation, a non-profit organisation in Surat, commemorated the birthday of BJP President CR Patil by spreading the light of service through various social activities. At an event held at Mehndipur Balaji Temple in Vesu Bharathana, Surat, the Foundation deposited Rs 1,000 in each of the 100 Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana accounts of the 100 girl children.

    Rashmi Saboo, municipal ward number 22 councillor and Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) Standing Committee Member, said the programme was held at Mehndipur Balaji Temple in Vesu Bharathana on behalf of the Preksha Seva Foundation. On this occasion, Navsari MP and Gujarat BJP State President CR Patil, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, and MLA Sandeep Desai were invited.

    “Around 100 girls benefited from Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana through Preksha Seva Foundation,” Saboo said. The Foundation opened accounts in the Bank of Baroda under this scheme and deposited one thousand rupees in each account.”

    It is worth noting that the Preksha Seva Foundation has been providing continuous service to the community for many years. Prior to the event, programmes were held to inform people about the widow assistance scheme, health checkup camps, assistance to the disabled, government schemes, and so on.

    February 24: Republic of Somalia and WFDP pledged to enhance cooperation and widen the scope of their humanitarian efforts.

    During a recent meeting with the First Lady of the Republic of Somalia, Her Excellency Zahra Omar Hassan, WFDP, represented by H.E. Ekramy El Zaghat, President and Mr. Rajiv N. Kapoor, Financial Advisor – President’s Office, highlighted WFDP’s recent initiatives to focus and provide additional opportunities for Women’s Empowerment viz. The Girls Code Program.

    The First Lady was briefed on this very important initiative by WFDP to create and provide a global platform and genuine opportunities to empower and encourage young women to consider scholastic development and career in the field of ICT (Information and Communication Technology). H.E. Ekramy advised that The Girls Code Program has been conceived as community outreach programs, workshops & after-school initiatives aimed at providing equal opportunity to underprivileged girls globally and especially in Africa to learn basic programming languages. Through this program, WFDP expects to create awareness and avenues for introducing such concepts and skill sets to the Girls so that they develop as skilled, contributing members to their countries’ GDP and become economically self-sustaining.     Tens of hundreds of students from seven affiliated colleges of Sarvajanik University participated in the public carnival and fashion parade depicting the development and fashion awareness in Surat.

    Students from seven colleges affiliated with Sarvajanik University—BRCM, SCOPA, SCCCA, IDPT, SCL, SRKI, and SCET—raised awareness on diverse topics such as unity in diversity, rape prevention, gender equality at work, animal care, and so on through the fashion parade led by IDT.

    Surat’s renowned design institute IDT trained, mentored, and prepared the pupils. The panellists were IDT Director Ankita Goyal, Gujarat-based fashion designer Sangeeta Choksi, Mumbai-based fashion stylist Nikki Deol, fashion design instructor Kritika Sadhwani, and Natasha Dhaneriano. The Evening Commerce College was tasked with organizing the fashion parade.

In her recent initiative, she has started a unique campaign in her village called ‘Garbage Free Marriage Functions’. She provides the free steel utensils for cooking and serving for any marriage functions in her village for marriage and other social functions.

    In addition, she has also created a team that collects the food waste and converts it into manure for selling on piecemeal rates to farmers. The purpose is to reduce the garbage of disposables, plastics, bottles for keeping the village clean and utilizing the natural resources at its best and recycling the food waste.

    Neeru Yadav, Sarpanch of Lambi Ahir, Tehsil Buhana, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, said “Food Waste is the biggest trouble in our country. It badly affects environment, social living and economy. The gap between the food produced and consumed is due to food waste and poor management. I noticed this in our village, especially during marriage functions and other social gatherings.  Our volunteer women team came with a solution of providing the free steel utensils for cooking and serving in marriages and other social functions in free to use and store them in a central place of the village so anyone can book them for re-use.”

    UNEP’s (United Nations Environment Programme) Food Waste Index Report 2021 reports food waste of 1 billion tonnes globally every year. As per this report, India ranks 2nd in the world with food waste of 50 kilos per person per year after China. If we consider overall garbage including food waste, the country is facing massive waste management challenge. Over 377 million urban people living in 7935 towns and cities and generate 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste per annum.

    Sarpanch, Neeru Yadav’s initiative has made a small difference in the Lambi Ahir village and if the same campaign gets replicated to whole state, whole country and whole world, one can assume the change this idea can bring!

    Neeru Yadav is the first young Sarpanch of Lambi Ahir, Tehsil Buhana, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. The Lambi Ahir is a village having Yadavs in majority and closer to Haryana boarder. Local residents started calling her a Hockey Wali Sarpanch from the day she created a Women Hockey Team at her village. She donated her salary and created a fund for arranging dedicated playground, hockey kits, uniforms and a hockey coach in her village. She keeps motivating these girl players by arranging the inter-city and inter-state hockey competitions. Empowering the girl hockey players, Neeru Yadav has set an example for the other women of the village to come out of social clutters and do something extraordinary.

    Neeru Yadav also supports in the education and skill development of the village girls. She has also trained 10 girls under PMKVY Scheme and helped to get job placements to all these girls in MNCs. Following this successful project, around 15 more girls have joined Neeru Yadav for skill development training and soon a new batch will get started.
