    Dr. Rajdeep More

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 6: In a stomach-churning incident,  Dr. Rajdeep More, Consultant Gastroenterologist in Thane (West) successfully performed an endoscopic procedure on a 5-year-old boy who had accidentally swallowed a pen drive. The patient is discharged from the hospital and has resumed his daily routine with ease.

Master Akshat Upadhyay, a  resident of Thane West accidentally swallowed a pen drive at 9 am on 20th January 2023. He suddenly complained of mild abdominal pain. His parents quickly brought him to the emergency room wherein he was immediately attended to by Dr. Rajdeep More.

Dr. Rajdeep More, the Consultant Gastroenterologist, said, “On arrival in an emergency, the patient has mild abdominal pain and looked fairly well settled. An erect X-ray of the abdomen showed the pen drive to be lodged in the stomach.

We anticipated that if an early endoscopic removal of the foreign body (pen drive) was not done, it would require major surgery to retrieve the foreign body later on.

After explaining and reassuring the patient’s parents, the boy was taken up for an emergency endoscopy under general anesthesia.

On endoscopic examination, The pen drive was seen to be lodged in the upper part of the stomach just below the food pipe(esophagus). The pediatric patient was later given general anesthesia to perform the endoscopy procedure to remove that pen drive out by grasping it with an endoscopic device called a snare. The pen drive was grasped with a snare and removed through the mouth. The procedure time was 20 minutes and patiently tolerated the procedure well with no post-operative complications.

He was kept under observation in the hospital for 24 hours and got discharged the following day in a healthy state without any symptoms or complications.

Not treating the patient at the right time could have led to complications like intestinal obstruction, perforation, and profuse vomiting, eventually warranting emergency surgery.

We were very scared at first and didn’t know what to do. We then rushed to Dr. Rajdeep More, Gastroenterologist in Thane (West) who explained everything about the procedure before performing it. The surgery was a success and they took good care of our child. Now he is fine, symptom and complication-free. We thank the doctor for saving my son’s life,” concluded Master Akshat Upadhyay patient.

  • Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants:  10 Best Dentists Debunks Some Myths about Implants

Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants:  10 Best Dentists Debunks Some Myths about Implants

    Read Time:5 Minute, 58 Second

New Delhi (India), February 2: Dr. Shikha Tripathi, BDS, MDS, Prosthodontist & Implanologist, Owner of My Family Dentist Dental Implant Center Multichain Dental Clinic & Founder – “Fix Battisi” Venture, Haridwar.

Dental implants are a popular option for those looking to replace missing or damaged teeth. Dental implants are anchored directly to the jawbone, making them the best tooth replacement option.

However, many believe dental implants are only for cosmetic purposes and look fake or artificial. Porcelain implants, in particular, are known for their ability to mimic the look and feel of natural teeth.

Lastly, many believe that getting dental implants is invasive and painful. However, the procedure is relatively easy and painless for most people. There are multiple options for implant prostheses, such as Paulo malo, hybrid dentures, peek prosthesis, etc. These are only possible because of the new generation of materials that have transformed modern dentistry to a digital level.

Dr. Nitesh Motwani, MDS Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, Smile Concepts Dental Clinic, Mention Fellow of Indian society of Implantologist, Fellow of General Education Manipal, Mumbai

Dental implants in elderly individuals are equally successful and long-lasting as they are in the young. Implants can enhance the lives of elderly patients by providing them with greater confidence and improving their physical and mental health. The process is under local anesthesia, so the gums are numb and usually painless. One can feel some pressure but no pain. An implant helps replace a missing tooth without taking additional support from an adjacent natural tooth, thereby increasing the life of the natural tooth, which is priceless! Cost wise average implant cost is almost the same as metal-free bridges. If the bone health is good, we can replace the entire set of teeth in a single jaw with the help of 4-6 implants.

Dr. Shiv Chadda, BDS (Pune), Fellowship Microdentistry (Mumbai), Master Clinical Implantology (NYU), Dentist Since 1995 More than 25 Yrs, Dr Chadda’s Smile Dental Clinic, Mumbai

Dental implants are the latest and most efficient method to replace missing teeth. Though the procedure sounds scary to many people, it is not painful at all, and once completed, the tooth on the implant feels almost like it belongs in the mouth.

With the new advances, implant placements are hardly painful, and the process is done with just local numbing of the area, requiring hardly any time. If your sugar and BP are mostly under control, a dental implant can be placed with a good prognosis. The price of dental implants has dropped dramatically over the years, making good, high-quality implants that last longer and are more affordable. Implantologists are trained to understand the various factors and will help you choose the best implant for your situation.

Dr. Sonali Bassi, BDS, Chief Consultant Surgeon, Oracare Cosmetic Dental Clinic, Gurgaon

Implants are the best choice for replacing missing teeth once the dentist has evaluated the patient’s overall general health, bone strength, and gum tissue health. Implants can be performed on people of all ages. A fairly common myth is that implant surgery is painful. It is not painful at all, as it is done under local anaesthesia, which ensures that the patient does not feel any pain during the procedure. There can be mild tenderness post-procedure, but this can easily be managed with pain medication. Single-tooth implant placement in particular, is fairly simple and does not take too much chairside time. An implant patient must be committed to maintaining good oral hygiene and regular dental visits for long-lasting implants.

Dr. Parag Khatri, MDS – Periodontics, BDS Periodontist, Cosmetic/Aesthetic Dentist, Implantologist, Dental Square Dental Clinic, Mumbai

Depending on your particular problem, implants can be more expensive than the alternatives. While the upfront cost for implants can be more than for other types of restorations, the investment can pay off in the long run. Your dentist can discuss how many implants you will need. Because implants are embedded in your bone, they feel more like your natural teeth than bridges or dentures. You will not need to worry about denture adhesives or having your dentures slip, click, or fall out when you speak, and you will be able to chew better with implants. Your self-esteem and confidence will improve because you will not have to worry about denture problems or people noticing that you have missing teeth.

Dr. Kavita Bhat Kumar, BDS, Dentist & Oral health expert, Founder – Dr. Kavita’s Designer Smiles Multispeciality Dental Care, Mumbai

Dental implants may have higher upfront costs compared to dentures or bridges, but they are the most cost-effective method of tooth replacement in the long run. Dentures and bridges can cause teeth & jawbone deterioration, discomfort while chewing and speaking, damage to supporting and neighbouring teeth and gums, and may require maintenance and replacement. Not replacing a tooth may cause even more harm. On the other hand, implants integrate with the jawbone and function like natural teeth. They do not require maintenance and have a long lifespan, making them a better investment in the long term.

Dr. Viraj Chopra BDS, MDS(Operative Dentistry), MSc (Implantology, UK), Delhi

Dr. Bhaskar Agarwal BDS, MDS(Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery),Diploma (Advanced  Computer planning &3D Printing Technology, Switzerland), Delhi

Dental implants offer a predictable means for replacing one or more missing teeth. The design of dental implants has constantly been evolving to increase their success rate and safety. Currently, dental implants have a success rate above 98%.

The recent advances in computer technology and 3D printing have further improved the predictability and success of the implants, as well as surgical safety. The zygomatic implant is an

innovation to restore the teeth in the upper jaw. For those patients for whom bone grafting is not a predictable and successful option, zygomatic implants have proven to be a successful and predictable treatment option. Zygomatic implants don’t need any kind of bone grafting and can be loaded immediately to restore dentition within 48 hours.

Dr. Amit Kr. Agrawal, Consultant Dental Surgeon, BDS, MDS (PGIMS), Mem. Int. Team of Implantology (SWITZERLAND), Mem. Alliance for Cavity Free Future, Cert. John Hopkin University (USA), Gurgaon

We understand dental treatment can be daunting, especially when deciding on the placement of implants. It is crucial that the patient is happy, comfortable, and confident with their dentist and has a dental team that is friendly and approachable.

Fixed dentures are better than removable dentures as they can help slow down changes in your face and even replace missing structures so that you can enjoy your picture-perfect smile.

Dental implants are anchored securely in the jaw, so you can comfortably eat all your favourite foods without pain or worry, as 96% of dental implants are successful (in healthy patients who don’t smoke), and most of these last for over 40 years. The dental implant process is pain-free, so don’t worry about the treatment.

  • On This ‘WORLD CANCER DAY’: 8 Best Oncologists Share Their Advices on Increasing Risks of Cancer

On This ‘WORLD CANCER DAY’: 8 Best Oncologists Share Their Advices on Increasing Risks of Cancer

    Read Time:5 Minute, 48 Second

New Delhi (India), February 2: Dr. Nitin Singhal, Mch Surgical Oncology, (TATA Memorial), Laparoscopic Oncosurgery and HIPEC specialist, Practice in Ahmedabad

World Cancer day raises awareness about cancer and focuses on eradicating misinformation and myths about the disease. So this World Cancer day, let us CLOSE THE GAP by spreading awareness. Many types of cancers can be cured if detected early and treated in the right way. 30-50% of cancers can currently be prevented by avoiding risk factors and implementing prevention strategies like a regular health checkup. In the present age, some advanced cancers, if treated properly, can also have good outcomes with new techniques like HIPEC for abdominal cancers. My message to all cancer fighters: Live life to the fullest, and don’t let anything in the world upset you. Even if it is Cancer, fight back!

Dr. Karthik Chandra Vallam, Chief Surgical Oncologist -Robotic and Laparoscopic surgeon

    Medicover Hospital, Visakhapatnam

According to the World Health Organization, the number of cancer cases is expected to rise by about 70% over the next two decades. However, advancements in cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment have the potential to improve cure rates in the future.

On WCD2023, let us come together to raise awareness and educate ourselves about the devastating impact of cancer. Daily, I see firsthand the toll that cancer takes on individuals and families. But I also see the power of early detection, prevention, and treatment to save lives. Let us pledge to take action, whether it’s through getting screened, making lifestyle changes, or supporting research and access to care. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Dr. Ajay Sharma, MD, DNB (Medical Oncology), ECMO, SR. Consultant, Unit Head Medical Oncology, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Delhi

These cancers can start in the throat (pharynx), which divides into three divisions called the nasopharynx, oropharynx, hypopharynx, and larynx, as well as in the sinuses, inside and behind the nose, the tongue, the gums, and the roof of the mouth.

Symptoms- A white or red sore that does not heal on the gums, tongue, or lining of the mouth, swelling in the jaw, unusual bleeding or pain in the mouth, a lump or thickening, and problems with dentures. Causes-Alcohol and tobacco use are major risk factors, as are ultraviolet light exposure and occupational exposures (textile, ceramic, logging, and food processing). How Can I Reduce My Risk for Head and Neck Cancers? Don’t smoke, limit alcohol consumption, and talk to your doctor about HPV vaccination. Visit the dentist regularly.

Dr. Ravi Chander, MS, MCH, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist and Robotic Surgeon, Continental Hospital, Hyderabad

Cancer is a lifestyle disease. Only 5–10% of cancers are genetic causes. The rest are due to external factors like tobacco smoking, alcoholism, obesity, inactivity, and dietary factors. While we are seeing a decrease in cancers like cervical cancer, cancers of the breast, endometrium, and colorectal cancer are on the rise. These are primarily caused by diets high in fat, low in fibre, increased consumption of red meat, increased alcohol intake, inactivity, and obesity. All these cancers have screening tests that can detect precancerous changes, which can be treated, preventing a progression to cancer.

Maintain a healthy diet, exercise 3–4 times per week, and get yourself screened once you are over 40 years old. Remember, cancer is a preventable disease.

Dr. Ninad Katdare, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology, HCG ICS Khubchandani Cancer Centre Colaba,

Specialist in GI, Gynec and Peritoneal Oncology, Specialist in MIS and Robotic Surgery, Mumbai

In India, one of the biggest reasons for the increasing incidence is the lack of access to quality cancer care. Equitable distribution of skills, manpower, and infrastructure is necessary to reduce this gap. HCG Cancer Centre, also through its chain of hospitals in tier 1, 2, and 3 cities, is aiming to provide quality cancer care to the farthest corners of India. Another issue is a lack of knowledge about the signs and symptoms of cancer. This leads to a delay in diagnosis and worse outcomes. Taking awareness to the grass-roots level can help not only to diagnose cases early but also to reduce addictions like tobacco, smoking, and others, which will go a long way in reducing the incidence of cancer.

Dr. Vijay Ramanan M, MD, DM, Senior Hematology and Chairman Bone Marrow Transplant Physician, Pune

Cancer has increased multifold in the last few decades. The rampant use of plastics with bisphenol A is increasing hormone-related cancers. Spending too much time in front of a screen has increased their blue light exposure and lowered the level of melatonin in their brains. The symptoms are sleeplessness, more menstrual problems, and an increased risk of cancer. People who eat more processed grains and foods with added sugar are about 10-fold more likely to have cancer, a heart attack, autoimmune issues, dementia, hypertension, diabetes, etc.

It’s time we eat healthy food, spend time with friends and families, drink lots of water, stay away from blue light, and stress as much as possible to keep cancer away from all of us.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Karumanchi, MBBS (Osm), DNB (Radiation Oncology), ECFMG (USA), Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Yashoda Hospital, Hyderabad

In India, lung and oral cavity cancers in men and cervical and breast cancers in women are more prevalent. The treatment of cancer has improved by leaps and bounds with new scientific developments and AI. Now, even complex cases in advanced stages are mostly treatable with minimal side effects.

While these developments are providing quite good cure rates, morbidity and mortality due to cancer are still on the rise. The cause is late detection of the disease in advanced stages, resulting in missed opportunities for curative treatments. Hence, it’s crucial to drive away the fear of cancer and bring awareness to the early detection of cancers through screening, thereby treating the disease in its early stages.

Dr. Sreenivass B J, MD (Gen Med), DNB (Med Onco) (Gold Medalist), Consultant  Medical Oncologist & Hematologist, Bengaluru

Cancer will have killed 10 million people by 2020. This will tell us how dreaded these addictions are and how we can prevent cancers caused by them. According to one estimate, 30 to 50% of all cancers are preventable. So, worldwide oncologists advise people to educate themselves, their close relatives, and friends about the harmful effects of tobacco smoking, which not only cause cancer (more commonly, head and neck cancer and lung cancer) but can also cause other health hazards such as chronic lung disease, uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart attacks, strokes, etc.

One should do regular exercise, have a balanced diet, and maintain an ideal body weight—not only to prevent cancer but for other health benefits as well.
