BJP Spokesperson and Social Impact Activist, Shazia Ilmi inaugurated a Children’s Mental Wellness Program called Laakhon Muskan project by an award-winning EduTech start-up HiVoco Education and Learning on Mental Wellness Day.

October 13: BJP Spokesperson and Social Impact Activist, Shazia Ilmi launched a Children’s Mental Wellness outreach program called HiVoco Laakhon Muskaan Project.

He along with industry experts like Dr. Krishna Sharma (Principal, PGDAV),  Ms Vandana Kohli (Film Maker & Author), Dr. Neelesh Tiwari (Chairman & Director of World Brain Centre), Ms Taanya Nagi (Psychologist & Holistic Healing Expert), Mr. Ankush Sharma (Expressive Arts Teacher) and Mr. Parakram Singh Shekhawat (Anchor, Sansad TV) lent their support to this initiative at this event.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Member of Parliament, also supported the cause. However, he could not be present at the event.

This initiative is by an Edu-Tech start-up which is working on building Mental and Emotional wellness foundation among children and teenagers. Through this program the company aims to go to 200+ Schools and educate over 1 Lakh students about Mental and Emotional Wellness.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Shazia Ilmi said., “Mental wellness for our children & youth is an important issue to be addressed. We must encourage & educate our Teacher, Parents and Society at large to not see this as a taboo subject. Through my personal experience, I can state that a timely recognition of mental-illness can save many children and youth from their agony. I would like to congratulate HiVoco to take up such an important job. Such initiatives will help build a strong mental and emotional foundation of our youth. India, October 12: Symbiosis Law School, Pune, a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), conducted the Law Day and Justice Y.V. Chandrachud Memorial Public Lecture- 2022 on 1st October 2022 at 11:00 A.M. IST. The event, which was conducted at the SVC Auditorium and live-streamed through ZOOM- an online platform, observed the participation of over 600 people offline and around 106 online modes.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Justice Mrs. B.V. Hon’ble Justice B.V. Nagarathna discussed the topic ‘Revisiting the Judicial Trajectory on Good Governance. She initially deliberated upon the importance of Law Day and stated, “Every day is Law Day”. She reminisced certain personal anecdotes, remembering her father, Justice Venkataramiah. Further, commemorating Law Day, she referred to Justice Y.V Chandrachud as the “Torchbearer for her Generation.” Justice Nagarathna then touched upon the various facets of the democratic and constitutional values such as good governance, the rule of law and, most importantly, independence of the judiciary.

Additionally, citing the Kesavananda Bharti Case, Justice Nagarathna emphasized the importance of social and economic justice being important tenets of a welfare society. She referred to various landmark decisions of the Supreme Court that have essentially shaped our democracy and instilled constitutional values in the governance of the Indian society, such as the Olga Tellis Judgement and the SP Gupta Judgement that are relevant even in the present times. Justice Nagarathna concluded her address by stating that “The Need of the Hour is to prevent the corrosion of the Rule of Law”, which is the cornerstone of our democracy.

LawSikho announces 500 scholarships for persons with disability 

New Delhi (India), October 6: Gurugram-based legal edtech company LawSikho has announced 100 percent scholarships for 500 persons with disabilities (PWD). The candidates who complete the courses successfully will be co-certified by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Law graduates and law students will take an online admission test to decide who is eligible for the scholarships, which will cover LawSikho’s test prep courses for government jobs, upskilling courses focused on jobs in the private sector, and remote freelance work courses focused to international markets like US, UK and Canada.

To qualify for the admission test, candidates must produce a government-issued disability card or certificate of disability. Out of 500 seats, 300 will be reserved for law graduates and law students, while 200 will be open to non-law candidates interested in remote freelance work. The admission test will be held in October, but candidates can appear for an online on-demand admission test even later. The goal is to roll out all 500 scholarships before December 2022.

“A small-scale pilot project has already been tested and over a hundred candidates have benefited from it so far. This expansion will benefit from the learnings of the existing programme. Also, when we benefit from feedback from learners from different backgrounds, we are able to make our services more inclusive” said Ramanuj Mukherjee, CEO at LawSikho.

Masoom Reza, 24, an LLB from Jamia Millia Islamia who is currently enrolled at NLSIU Bengaluru as an LLM student, is among the many outstanding students who have already been part of LawSikho’s scholarship programme for PWD.  Completely visually impaired since the age of seven, Masoom took our Judiciary Test Prep course in 2021 as part of his preparation for the Judiciary Services Competitive Examination and applied for a full scholarship, which he received.

Speaking about his LawSikho experience in general, Masoom, who stood third in the Indian Law Institute CAT for LLM, says the method of teaching is “amazing”, and adds that he has particularly benefited from Lawsikho’s practice sessions and the faculty’s approach of interlinking various laws for better understanding.

“Many job seekers with disabilities find remote work much more suitable and convenient, but very few programmes exist for them. Given LawSikho’s success in helping Indian graduates secure remote work opportunities across the world, we felt that it would be a great time to formally announce scholarships for candidates who are also Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan).
