Potential Covid-19 recurrence in 25% patients- Practo Report

    Read Time:3 Minute, 45 Second

Covid cases vs Covid Consults across all three waves in comparison with pre-covid times

The report ‘Understanding COVID-19: Comparing all three waves in India’ analyses how Indians accessed healthcare during the three covid waves The average time spent by a patient with a doctor online during this time was 30 minutes, which is comparable to in-person visits.

India, April 7: In the last two years, digital healthcare has played an important role in managing the Covid-19 pandemic. In managing the crisis – especially through all three waves in India – there has been tremendous growth in telemedicine, raising the possibility of a future where digital healthcare services will coexist with in-clinic visits in a hybrid setup.

Indicating the start of such a transition, Practo’s insights report – ‘Understanding Covid-19: Comparing the three waves’ reveals that nearly a quarter of the total users on Practo consulted online for COVID-19 during all three waves. While online doctor consultation has become widely popular as a quick and convenient way to seek timely care, the average time spent by a patient with a doctor online on Practo during this time was 30 minutes, which is comparable to in-person visits.

With covid cases rising again around the world giving way to speculations about an impending fourth wave, it is necessary to understand the health trends from the first three waves so that the healthcare industry is better prepared.

Report findings during all three waves:

    • 70% of all online consultations for COVID-19
    • Second wave was the deadliest with a 1500% surge in online consultations at its peak
    • 57% of all telemedicine users experienced it for the first time
    • 54% of all online consultations were from millennials and Gen Zs
    • There was 50% growth in alternate medicine like Ayurveda and Homeopathy
    • Specialities like Dental, Psychiatry and Sexology saw growth in in-person appointments
    • Dolo 650mg, Zincovit, Limcee 500mg, Azee 500mg, Pan D capsule were the most ordered medicines
    • Covid-19 swab test, Complete blood count test, Thyroid profile and HBA1c were the most ordered diagnostic tests

Covid cases vs Covid Consults across all three waves in comparison with pre-covid times

Regarding consultations associated with COVID-19, as expected, the second wave saw a massive surge, as demand for General Physicians, Pulmonologists, Cardiologists and Gynecologists remained high, especially among young people. With a focus on other key insights during this wave of the pandemic, this report, in addition to drawing a comparison between all three waves, also summarizes the post-COVID impact registered over the last few weeks.

Isolation amid successive lockdowns, the trauma of death in the family due to COVID-19 or associated ailments, and anxiety about an uncertain future have brought the discourse on mental health to the fore, demonstrated by an increase in online doctor consultations with psychiatrists on Practo during the second wave. Another significant development has been a rising interest in alternative medications like Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, as the natural resilience and immunity of the body came into sharp focus during the pandemic.

Prof. Rajendra Pratap Gupta, Author of the best-seller: ‘Digital Health – Truly Transformational’ and Chairman – Digital Health Academy & Health Parliament, said, “For most of us who have been championing digital adoption over the past two decades, this digital health revolution is not just evolutionary; it is revolutionary – either corporates or technologists have led the first two revolutions, and this time, this is being led by patients. A bottom-up movement always trumps all barriers. This study reveals that digital health adoption is growing exponentially across urban, rural areas, specialities, and age groups.  As work from home (WFH) becomes a reality, Consult from Home (CFH) is also becoming prominent.  The hybrid model of care is a reality now.”

Dr Alexander Kuruvilla, Chief Healthcare Strategy Officer, Practo, said, “India’s healthcare system saw a paradigm shift in its approach to deliver care during the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when hospitals and care delivery units were overwhelmed by the rising number of positive COVID cases, telemedicine served as an efficient and effective alternative, saving lives and critical resources like hospital beds. Apart from the devastation that the pandemic brought, it also did reinstate the fact that quality healthcare can be made accessible and affordable to all.”

Savitribai was the principal of this pioneer institution that was open to girls from all castes and communities. This was the first occasion for girls from the Dalit community to attend school.

Such was the opposition from the society in that era that often, the ladies of Pune threw Cow-Dung and stones at Savitribai during her commute to the school, as they thought girls going to school was anti-religion during that time. She also set up a Centre for Expectant widows as widows delivering children used to be considered a blotch on society. • India Paves the Way to Modern Pythian Games

India Paves the Way to Modern Pythian Games

    Read Time:4 Minute, 5 Second

April 6: Mr. Bijender Goel, Founder of Modern Pythian Games, is all set to address and present the Modern Pythian Games to the world for the first time at the annual general meeting of the Delphi Economic Forum at Delphi, Greece on April 7, 2022.

Delphi Economic Forum, Athens, Greece, has invited Mr. Goel, in his official capacity as the founder of the Modern Pythian Games, to address their annual general meeting as the keynote speaker, to be held from April 6–9, 2022, at Delphi, Greece (origin of the Pythian Games). This annual general meeting of the Delphi Economic Forum is being held under the auspices of His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic of Greece, who opens the forum on the first day and is addressed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic of Greece.

Mr. Dalip Singh, IAS, former Chief Election Commissioner of Haryana and President of the Pythian Council of India, will accompany Mr.Goel during his 9-day visit.

Before their departure, Mr. Goel and Mr. Dalip Singh called upon Mr. Govind Mohan, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India, and briefed him about the developments. They shall meet the Indian Ambassador in Greece during their visit to brief him on the Pythian Games.

Mr. Bijender Goel said that it is a great moment when modern Pythian Games inspired by the Greek history of ancient Pythian Games are being resurrected in India. I was proud when Delphi Economic Forum recognised this development and invited us to present the concept of Modern Pythian Games to the world and created a special session on this in their meeting.

He shall be speaking on the topic of how Pythian Games can play an important role in the global economy in a post-COVID scenario, and how they can play an important role in the global economy and contribute to maintaining peace and harmony through arts and culture.

The Pythian Games are to art and culture what the Olympics are to physical sports, and they were held in parallel with the Olympics in ancient Greece. The Pythian Games were one of Delphi’s four Pan-Hellenic Games and were in existence prior to 582 B.C. and were discontinued in 394 A.D. along with the Olympics and other Pan-Hellenic Games.

There is evidence that Greek artists competed each year in accordance with the Delphi Peace Agreement. Delphi’s history shows a strong commitment to art, culture, tradition, and education. Baron Pierre de Coubertin reintroduced the Olympic Games in 1894 and wanted to revive the Pythian Games too. Instead of a resurrection of these games, he incorporated artistic competitions into the Olympics, which were modelled after ancient Pythian Games. Individuals from every country participated in music, literature, architecture, and artwork between 1912 and 1948. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) discontinued such competitions in 1954.

Mr. Goel said that “the arts and culture have long been a power that links not only the heart and soul, but entire societies and nations together, but our artisans are still struggling for opportunities and don’t have the right platform to showcase their work, despite it being a multibillion-dollar industry today.

We need to make the arts and culture industry more organized. This can only be done with the help of the multi-level organisational approach of the modern Pythian Games.

We have given legal shape to the International Pythian Council as a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious organization, and it will take shape soon as the supreme authority of the global Pythian Games. It is set to create history by resurrecting the Modern Pythian Games of Arts and Culture with the backing of over 80 nations, soon from Delphi, Greece.

This visit will play a very important role in finalising the dates and the grand revival ceremony.Mr. Goel also said that the expert technical committee of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has found “Pythian Games” relevant in an official communication and asked for additional information.

The Pythian Games will be held every four years, and any national or state council should be able to bid for them with the assistance of their governments in order to host them.

The various events have been created in different art categories and the games, festivals, and engagements will take place in each of the eight primary creative fields: musical arts, performing arts, visual arts, social and traditional arts, language and literary arts, architecture and ecology, robotics and digital arts, martial arts, entertainment games, adventure games, traditional games, and support in reviving dying art traditions.

The sentiments from the Pythian Games are transforming into a global movement to support artisans, and that’s what our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, desired in his recent speech on “MAN KI BAAT”.

  • Vijay Dhawangale roots for preventive healthcare on the eve of World Health Day

Vijay Dhawangale roots for preventive healthcare on the eve of World Health Day

    Read Time:3 Minute, 25 Second

Vijay Dhawangale stresses on the importance of preventive healthcare

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 6: On the eve of World Health Day, global healthcare consultant Vijay Dhawangale proposes a revolutionary Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which aims at easing the burden of disease on citizens, by offering them free-of-cost diagnostic services through public health facilities in their respective countries.

Mounting expenses due to increasing costs of diagnostic services further compounded by limited availability, especially in remote regions, puts a tremendous burden on patients especially those belonging to lower socio-economic sections.

“In the absence of accurate diagnostic reports, physicians in many parts of the world are unable to offer effective prognosis and care. Patients often have to shell out additional money to access diagnostic services which may be even more expensive than the cost of medicines themselves,” says Vijay Dhawangale, referring to the dearth of qualitative diagnostic facilities.

Dhawangale proposes a PPP model – Healthcare Diagnostics Programs, involving nuanced strategies for local and state level implementation, overseen by a central agency designated by governments.

The initiative envisions providing a package of essential diagnostic services free-of-cost across all public health facilities, using innovative, low-cost technology. As per the proposed model, the government’s role can be limited to enabling these diagnostic laboratories to be set up, while the responsibility of providing quality diagnostics would lie with the relevant laboratory partners.

Dhawangale has also piloted a PPP healthcare project by setting up more than 200 diagnostic laboratories across five states in India, spanning both private and public sectors.

Over 10 million citizens in remote locations across India are supposed to have availed free diagnostic services from these labs, which are attached to over 3,000 government hospitals. He believes that this model has the potential for being scaled and implemented as nationwide programs in various countries all over the world.

“Various studies have demonstrated that over 10 percent of annual income in Indian households is spent on privately provided healthcare. Whether it is due to lack of public facilities or access to them, this amount is significant especially for households already on the brink of poverty. The Healthcare Diagnostic Programs can be aimed at making quality diagnostic healthcare facilities available to all, to improve quality of life and provide timely facilities,” remarks Dhawangale.

In India, specifically, the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is increasing. While in many developed countries, NCDs are typically seen in individuals aged 55 years or older, they occur in India at least a decade earlier. Further, due to lack of awareness and limited access to healthcare facilities, the majority of these chronic conditions remain undiagnosed.

Availability and access to quality diagnostic facilities, as proposed by the Healthcare Diagnostic Programs, can enable detection of risks and diseases at early stages, and positively impact disease management while reducing associated costs.

Apart from reducing the burden on citizens, the model can also ensure that governments can focus on providing the right financial support and environment for the implementation of such a scheme, without having to set up and maintain infrastructure, human resources and consumables, which can be managed by the laboratory partners with efficiency.

This World Health Day let us vow to focus on preventing diseases and managing them well, by providing access to quality healthcare for all.

    Who is Vijay Dhawangale?

Vijay Dhawangale is a venture capitalist and a global healthcare consultant, having dabbled in various entrepreneurial ventures across domains and industries. As a champion of quality healthcare for all, Dhawangale passionately voices his perspectives on how it can be made accessible to all.

He has piloted a PPP healthcare project by setting up over 200 diagnostic laboratories across five states in India, spanning both private and public sectors. Over 10 million citizens in remote locations across India are supposed to have availed free diagnostic services from these labs, which are attached to over 3,000 government hospitals.

Dhawangale was also instrumental in setting up more than 15 COVID testing labs in key locations across the country, during the peak of the pandemic, to aid accurate and accelerated testing.

Chairman Man-Hee Lee of Shincheonji Church of Jesus

The pastors from various countries in the world who established MOUs with Shincheonji church invited to a press conference on the 2ndof April

“We can learn the revealed word because God dwells in Shincheonji church,”says the pastors

April 5: Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji Church of Jesus, under the leadership of Chairman Lee Man-hee) hosted a press conference with pastors from various countries in the world who established MOUs with Shincheonji at 5:00 PM(KST), on the 2ndof April. It was well attended by 1,500 pastors from all over the world along with reporters and journalists on ZOOM.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus hosted this event to share the progress in the online seminars that began from last year, MOUs established thus far, along with some case examples. Kim Shin-chang, the Head of the Department of International Missions stated, “Many participants from Africa in the Bible Seminar from August last year reached out to establish MOUs with us which led to the first MOU in September with the Worship in the Presence of God Church in Uganda,” explaining how Shincheonji first started to establish MOUs with other churches.

Some case examples and testimonials from pastors who established MOUs with Shincheonji were shared during the press conference.

Dongsu Kim, the head pastor of Peace Church confessed, “In the past all I preached was that everyone must believe in Jesus and by sharing grace in this way would lead to salvation. Without fulfillment, I thought heaven was somewhere one went to after death. I thought there was resurrection after death,” expressing his incorrect beliefs about salvation.

Pastor Kim is presently teaching Shincheonji’s Revealed Word to his own congregation. He also stated, “The time has come for all the pastors to come and learn so that they may live a life of faith in the correct truth. I want to share Shincheonji’s Revealed Word to my fellow pastors. I want them to learn the Word and realize that their ideas of salvation is incorrect.”

Pastor WillifredEndohu, a pastor who has been leading his church for 11 years in Cote d’Ivoire, introduced himself stating, “I studied theology in a seminary and was trained to be a pastor through prayer meetings and began ministering a church in a very small room. Thankfully enough, 11 years later my congregation has grown to be about 500 members. I am also a lecturer at a seminary institute as well.”

Chairman Lee spoke about how he has come to share the Word and the role of pastors today.

“Revelation is about re-creation. If you look at Revelation 21, the first heaven and the first earth pass away and a new heaven and a new earth are created. It is about creating people and all creation again,” Chairman Lee stated, explaining that those who are born of God’s seed are harvested and sealed to create God’s new kingdom and new people at the time of Revelation.

He also added, “Writing the word of all the chapters of Revelation in people’s hearts is harvesting, sealing, and nurturing those who have been born of God’s seed and making them into the citizens of God’s kingdom. [This is why] Jesus showed me the events of all the chapters of Revelation and commanded me to testify to all the churches,” as he explained the role of the promised pastor today.

In his concluding remarks, Chairman Lee stated, “We must become freedom fighters of God’s kingdom that restore what God lost. Let’s fight and overcome the devil with the blood of Jesus and the word of testimony and create the people of God’s kingdom so that God may finally come and reign over the world after 6000 years. This is what God has made known to us through the Bible. I hope that everyone engraves the words of all the chapters of Revelation—which is the law of heaven—in their hearts. There is only one God, one Bible and one hope. We, as those who believe in God, are also one. We are one!”

Some case examples of what happens after establishing MOUs were also shared. A church named, The Early Church of the New Era in the United States of America, has invited an instructor from Shincheonji, where some 100 members of the church is learning the teachings of Shincheonji Church of Jesus. A Filipino pastor is teaching his congregation after completing the Bible courses from Shincheonji Church of Jesus. A seminary school in Pakistan has opened up courses in the institution after its dean established an MOU with Shincheonji.

According to Shincheonji Church of Jesus, 2155 pastors, 22 seminary schools, 958 churches in 67 countries have established MOUs with Shincheonji Church of Jesus. Shincheonji Church of Jesus is providing theology materials and instructors for the churches and seminary schools that have made MOUs with them to educate people of the Bible as mutually decided upon in the agreement.

A Leading Pulmonologist’s Experimentation with Gandhi Marg

Rajasthan (India), April 5: The 21st century has tested materialism, bringing many scientific revolutions, which have proven a boon for humanity. However, in the face of materialism, the principles of Gandhiji are still relevant, whether it is the mantra of satyagraha (non-violence) or cleanliness, which Gandhiji considered the most important for physical well-being and a healthy environment. The core of the Gandhian legacy is that the TRUTH is greater than that of all worldly possessions and that slavery, violence, injustice, and disparities are inconsistent with the truth. Health4All Online, a weekly health shows run by HEAL Foundation every Sunday from 8 am to 11 am in its 24th episode, deliberated on “The Importance of Gandhi Marg in Healthcare system”.

The author of ‘My experiments with Gandhi Marg’ Dr Virendra Singh, President, Rajasthan Hospital, Director, Asthma Bhawan, said, “We can solve day-to-day problems by applying Gandhi Marg without enmity. Success in anything is bound to come if you follow the Gandhi Marg persistently and patiently with honesty. The foundation of Gandhi Marg (ideology) is truth. According to Gandhiji, the harmony of thought, speech, and action can be said as true. Besides delivering their duties, if the healthcare workers follow the truth, the face of Indian healthcare will change automatically.”

Deliberating on how he got inspired by Gandhian philosophy and experimented on himself, which worked wonders in transforming his life and fortifying his belief in the Gandhian philosophy of truth and prodded him to write the book, Dr Singh said, “The THREE-Points that I picked from Gandhian Philosophy regarding the rectification of ‘Mistake’ not only transformed my life but also the lives of others with whom I have interacted. These three points were: Accepting mistakes with guilt; determining not to repeat the mistakes; Atoning for mistakes committed.”

Sharing his personal experiences with Gandhi Marg during the Health4All Online show, Dr Singh added, “I have experimented and found that the change of hearts can only be done through Gandhi Marg. If we do some planning in advance, we can resist many undesirable consequences of violence, agitation and crime. I have applied the Gandhian principle of Satyagraha (non-violence) that helped me end the strike of the contract workers of the hospital I was superintending in Rajasthan. I asked the people to volunteer their services as the contract workers were on strike, and people joined hands. Then the workers on strike came back to me and agreed to re-join and end the strike. This was perhaps the first case study in Independent India wherein satyagraha helped end strike. Gandhigiri also helps solve your problems. Gandhi Marg is always with truth. To follow Gandhi Marg, we need to have two things – TRUTH & BRAVERY. I have observed that helping others gives a different kind of happiness and satisfaction, which I have learnt from Gandhi Marg.”

While moderating the session of Health Counter during the Health4All show, Dr Swadeep Srivastava, Founder of HEAL Health & HEAL Foundation, said, “Of course, Gandhian principles are always relevant irrespective of age provided if we follow them wholeheartedly with truthfulness as the central message of Gandhian philosophy is the TRUTH. Also, the Gandhian legacy of simple living in conformity with the basic rhythm of life typifies the age-old wisdom of humanity. We need to educate the people about the basic principles of Gandhigiri.”
