India Is Proud of World Shooting Champion Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil-World News Network

    Read Time:5 Minute, 30 Second

November 19: Indian teenager Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil created history in the Egyptian capital Cairo, pulling off a dramatic 17-15 victory over Italy’s Danilo Dennis Sollazzo in the gold medal match and has been crowned World Champion in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle, an Olympic event. With a stunning comeback in the gold medal match, 18-year-old Rudrankksh Patil became the senior men’s 10m air rifle world champion.

They were winning the Olympic quota spot and finishing in the top two, which Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil already assured. It was a special day in Cairo at the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol for India. But the teenager-created sensation by becoming the world champion and thrillingly added icing to the cake.

With a stunning comeback in the gold medal match at the Egypt International Olympic City (EIOC) shooting range, the The18-year-old Patil became the senior men’s 10m air rifle world champion and earned India’s second place in Paris 2024 Olympic Games quota.

Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil had put up posters in his room in Thane; the ‘Paris 2024’ signs printed in bold letters remind the 18-year-old air rifle shooter of his dream of winning a medal at the Olympics. One of the posters is at eye level for Rudrankksh to see when he enters his room He told me he pasted it up because he wanted ‘Paris 2024’ to be the last thing he sees when he looks up before he goes to sleep and when he wakes up the first thing he sees is the poster says his father SP Police Palghar Balasaheb Patil.

While the Olympic quota belongs to the country, Patil’s gold medal is his. India has won Gold Medals, Titles, World Cups and even World Championships in various categories, which comes every four years as this is the first for India In 10mcategory in World Championships since Abhinav Bindra won his in 2006. It also marks him as a rifle shooter to watch out for; beginning in 2006, winners of the 10m air rifle event at the World Championships have gone on to medal at the subsequent Olympic games.

Rudrankksh’s gold certainly didn’t come easy. Patil topped qualification with 633.9. He didn’t have a single shot under10.1.in the Gold Medal Match, in 11 of the 15 shots, Patil scored 10.5 or Higher -an incredibly high standard. There can be no caveats to his performance. This was a stacked field in Cairo (Except for Russia’s Vladimir Maslennikov, each of the finalists from the Tokyo 2020 Games was participating). “All these shooters are those Rudrankksh has idolised,” says Balasaheb Patil.

“He is a massive fan of (China’s) Yang Haoran and (Hungary’s) Istvan Peni. Even in the past, he would keep talking about them; He would discuss how they train, how they stand, and how they behave during competition. He used to watch videos of them. He admires their style. He likes observing how they play. He reads everything about them. He was excited to compete with them at Cairo,” says Balasaheb. While Rudrankksh might once have been poring over his competitor’s biographies, a few will likely do the same for him now.

Rudrankkah Patil started his shooting career six years ago when Balasaheb, a deputy commissioner of police, was invited to inaugurate a shooting range in Thane, where he began to train with Snehal Papalkar when he was thirteen. He was dreaming only about shooting and was teaching at Balasaheb shooting range in Vile Parle. At that time, he spent nearly 8 hours a day in travel and practice. At that time, he felt unfortunate that he didn’t have friends like other kids. And I motivated him to say, “Everyone will one day tell you were a classmate, Said Balasaheb Patil.

In 2021 Rudrankksh won a silver medal at the Junior World Championship and followed that up with a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Suhl earlier this year. But Rudrankksh’s father was saying that he was looking for a senior level and was only 17 years old at the time of the Olympics, where he did not qualify and was disappointed and took some time to recover from it and finally reasoned for not training, He felt even if he had gone to the Olympics; he didn’t have the experience to compete and win a medal,” he says. Rudraksha has been slowly building himself up for the senior stage. He took part in two World Cups this year, reaching the final at the one in Cairo. A week ago, he emphasised his position as the best in India by winning gold at the National Games in Ahmedabad. Now he’s cemented that claim with the World Championship medal and the Olympic quota.

Hemangini Patil said I feel honoured to be the mother of the world champion. As a companion of his journey, my mind is very clear about his fantabulous win because his nature and attitude are the base of his achievements. He is very calm, relaxed and a perfectionist in every aspect of life. He will only give up any task if he finishes it with the highest potential. She further said her father, Balasaheb knows his son will be happy and will likely celebrate the win. “He is a bit of a foodie. Whenever he travels abroad, he makes it a point to try something from the place. He’ll probably have a good meal after this win. He loves his chicken and his pasta,” he says.

But while he might allow a bit of revelry in Cairo, Balasaheb knows that his son is already preparing for the next challenge. “The Olympic medal has always been his goal. He told me during the Olympics that if he goes to Paris, he will be so well prepared that he will win a medal. That’s his mentality; even now that he’s won a quota, he’s only going to be thinking about that medal,” says Balasaheb. Patil SP Police Palghar

  • Emotional MP Gajananad Kirtikar talks of Shivsena Journey

Emotional MP Gajananad Kirtikar talks of Shivsena Journey

    Read Time:7 Minute, 9 Second

November 19: Gajanand Kirtikar joined Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during an event organized by MP Rahul Shewale and MLA Sada Sarvankar at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi on Friday evening. Kirtikar, a Shiv Sena old-timer, has served as an MLA for four terms and was also a minister in the first Shiv Sena-BJP government elected to power in 1999. After joining the Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena, Kirtikar blamed the NCP and said, “NCP was responsible for the split of the Shiv Sena. The rebellion in Shiv Sena took place because of NCP, which had called the shots… While in power, NCP availed the maximum advantage. When the effect of Pawarshahi and Uddhavshahi weakens, the Shivshahi — led by Eknath Shinde — will reign in Maharashtra.”

Shri Gajanan Kirtikar has been actively working in Shiv Sena for the last 56 years, which means right from the day of its formation of Shiv Sena. Hon. Balasaheb Thackeray formed the Shiv Sena organization to fight for rights and get justice for the familiar Marathi people at various establishments. Shri Kirtikar shouldered responsibility in the beginning as Dy. Leader in Shiv Sena. Hon. Balasaheb Thackeray promoted him to Leader of Shiv Sena in 2007, considering the number of achievements he earned for the organization. Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti Mahasangh was established in 1974 under the Presidentship of Hon. Late Sudhir Joshi.

The main task was that every Marathi employee should get justice in all banks, insurance companies, oil companies, aviation companies, financial institutes, public organizations, and government and semi-government offices in Maharashtra at the level of recruitment, promotions, transfers etc. Shri Kirtikar was appointed as General Secretary of Lokadhikar Mahasangh right from the establishment and became President in 1997. Shri Anil Desai was then appointed as General Secretary. Both of them are doing their jobs successfully to date. There are 350 local Samities of Mahasangh actively working in different establishments. Mahasangh has succeeded in getting permanent jobs to 5 lakh unemployed youths in various establishments in the state. Camps / Conventions of Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti Mahasangh
Right from the establishment of Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti Mahasangh in 1974, the Reserve Bank of India Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti has been organizing every year camps /conventions of its members at some places in Kokan. Currently, such camps/conventions have been collected at Bordi of Thane district, Alibaug and Srivardhan of Raigarh district, Sangavi and Sakhari Agar of Ratnagiri district and Hinsdale of Sindhudurg district. The local people in all these places were inquisitive about such conventions, and they wholeheartedly supported making them successful by participating and cooperating in various means.

For their entertainment, popular movie shows were arranged, and during the intervals, they were informed about the social activities of Shiv Sena. They were pleased to learn that their children and relatives got employment in Mumbai because of Lokadhikar Mahasangh and Shiv Sena. It impressed their minds that their families are now financially stable because of Shiv Sena. The social works of Shiv Sena reached them on the screen with the help of projectors. In this manner, 45 years ago, the work and plans of Shiv Sena went to all villages in Konkan.

It is pride to note that number of well-known and expert personalities in different fields was invited for guidance. All such dignitaries have gladly accepted invitations and have graced our camps/conventions. They expressed their valuable opinions on the social work Shiv Sena was doing. Padmabhushan and Maharashtrabhushan Shivshahir, Late Shri Babasaheb Purandare, Prof. Late Shivajirao Bhosale, Great Marathi literature scholar and Dnyanpith winner Late Shri V.V. Shirwadkar, well-known Hindutva sponsored, Late Shri G.V. Behere, Loksatta Editor Late Shri Madhavrao Gadkari, press media persons like Late Shri P.R. Behere, Editor of Navakal Late Shri Neelkanth Khadilkar, Jyotirbhaskar Late Shri Jayant Salgaonkar, senior press journalist Shri Suresh Bhatevara and great economist Shri Narendra Jadhav were kind enough to attend our conventions. This was an indication that Shiv Sena was going on the right path.

Shiv Sena has worked for ‘Hindutva’ and the upliftment of familiar Marathi people and did 80% of social work, keeping Marathi people at the centre and 20% of related politics. Shiv Sena spread all over Maharashtra because it worked for its aims. All over Maharashtra, meetings were regularly held so that the workers and leaders at different levels should come together and have good dialogues, get to know each other and come close for a good cause.

Though Shiv Sena was spreading at the nook and corner of Maharashtra, it took nearly 18 years to hold a state-level convention after the formation of Shiv Sena as a party. The first convention was held on the 21st and 22nd of January 1984 at Veer Savarkar Hall at Dadar, Mumbai. So that you know – the way was called for at the instance of Hon. Balasaheb Thackeray. He had the vision that the number of active workers should increase fast with the spreading of Shiv Sena all over Maharashtra. He had the firm opinion that all leaders, deputy leaders, M.P.s, MLAs, corporators, zonal leaders Shakha Pramukh and office bearers of all unions affiliated to Shiv Sena should come together to exchange their views, problems, and solutions as well as know each other. Shiv Sena conquered Mumbai Municipal Corporation in 1985 and hoisted its saffron flag high on the MCGM building. Shiv Sena Supremo blew the bugle, saying, ‘Mumbai conquered now let us conquer Maharashtra’.

A convention was called to strengthen Shiv Sena at the root level. The second convention of Shiv Sena was held in 1985 at Mahad at the foot of Fort Raigarh. Lokadhikar Mahasangh had the lion’s share in making it a grand success through planning the convention, making all preliminary arrangements, planning and management. A resolution was passed unanimously that a museum may be built on Raigarh Fort, which will inspire and enlighten the memories of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The second resolution was to construct ‘Amarjyoti’ to keep the place’s holiness and seriousness. A demand was made that the archaeological department of the Government of India, the Government of Maharashtra and Raigarh Jilha Parishad, should come forward to complete the project successfully.

The third convention was held at Pune on the 30th and 31st of December 1988 on the spacious ground of S.P. College. The way was organized successfully under senior shiv Sainik Shri Kaka Vadke, Adv. Nandu Ghate, Shashikant Sutar was supported by hundreds of shiv Sainiks from Pune city and districts and active workers of Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti Mahasangh. Hon. Balasaheb declared that Shiv Sena would work for ‘Hindutva’. He also made it clear that if we fail to protect ‘Hindutva’, then Pakistani and Khalistani terrorists would succeed in dividing India once again. He also categorically pointed out that each Hindu accepts and respects Bhagwan. The name of Bharat of our country may be changed to Hindustan was demanded by Hon. Balasaheb, in this convention, only became famous later on.

The fourth convention was held at Nashik on the 18th and 19th of November 1994, and I was lucky to get an opportunity to express my views in the discussion held on the subject.’ promises of Shiv Sena’. The most critical stake in the convention was “in Shiv Sena regime the Farmers would be given most importance/preference like Kings, the consumer. Would be happy, women would be fearless”. The aim would be to make Maharashtra state. A corruption-free, prosperous state.

  • First Indian Civilian Team successfully summit Amadablam, the most technical Mountain in Nepal

First Indian Civilian Team successfully summit Amadablam, the most technical Mountain in Nepal

    Read Time:3 Minute, 25 Second

November 18: On the 8th of October, a team of 4 climbers from Maharashtra set out to take on the challenge of climbing Amadablam – 6812 meters ( 22,350 feet), one of the most technical mountains in the world. Located in the Everest region of Nepal the mountain is identified by its absolutely sheer ice walls and is an iconic feature on the popular Everest Base Camp Trek.

The team was made up of Sauraj Jhingan & Samir Patham, both Everest climbers and the Founders of Adventure Pulse, a popular Indian Mountain Expedition Company. In addition to climbing Everest and several other summits around the world, they were actively involved and appreciated for their role in the rescue operation after surviving the Everest Avalanche in 2015 during their first attempt on Everest. They were joined on this expedition by two seasoned climbers Rahul Oak from Mumbai and Zeeba Khan Sajnani, at the age of 55 years, the oldest Indian to attempt this mountain and an Everest aspirant for 2023.

Though thwarted by bad weather at the beginning of the expedition, the team progressed up the Everest Valley to finally occupy the Amadablam Base Camp on the 16th of October where they met their Sherpa Climbing Team. After a few days spent acclimatizing to the terrain and waiting for favorable weather, they finally set off to establish their higher camps.

Popularly referred to as the ‘Matterhorn of the Himalayas’, this mountain is infamous for its technical and challenging sections of steep rock, snow and ice that need to be navigated with great care. Just days before their summit attempt, there had been several rescues in other teams related to frostbite as well as even one death on this mountain. Tragically, Mingma Wangdi Sherpa, who was part of the rope fixing team was found dead at Camp 3. The team of four climbers and four Sherpas ( Lakpa Sherpa, Norbu Sherpa, Dorje Sherpa, & Norbu M Sherpa) strategically made their way up the mountain to set up CAMP-2 on an exposed rock pinnacle at 6050mtrs and waited patiently. At midnight the team set off up the mountain and began navigating their way up a very treacherous ice face in extreme temperatures of -25 Degrees.

On the 23rd of October, 2022 at 8:45 am, Rahul Oak, Sauraj Jhingan and Samir Patham crested the final ridge to reach the summit of Amadablam, thus joining a handful of Indians who have been able to achieve this feat. Blessed with extremely good weather, the team captured amazing footage from the summit, of some of the largest mountains in the world including Everest, Lhotse and Makalu. After spending half an hour on the summit, the team began the dangerous business of descending from the summit safely.

As per the Himalayan Database ( https://www.himalayandatabase.com/), the most trusted source of information on Nepal Climbing expeditions, there are only 18 successful Indian summits of Amadablam. As per their records, this will be the first successful Indian Civilian Team to summit Amadablam. When asked about his experience, Sauraj said “This mountain appeared to be even more technical and difficult than Everest. At every step, you felt like you would end up plunging to your death if you weren’t careful”. Samir had this to add “Amadablam, is a mountain that truly tests you physically, mentally and emotionally. Would not recommend doing it ever again!”

Though Everest was first climbed in 1953, Amadablam was only climbed much later in 1961. This mountain was once described by Sir Edmund Hillary, as being “unclimbable,” due to her imposing sheer faces that rise out among the many Himalayan summits. He later led the First successful Amadablam expedition in 1961 where Mike Gill (NZ) and Wally Romanes (NZ) reached the top via the Southwest Ridge. This achievement by Rahul Oak, Sauraj Jhingan and Samir Patham is definitely a hallmark moment in Indian Mountaineering.

  • World Sight Day 2022: Expanding Access to Eye Care and Healthy Vision Starts Locally

World Sight Day 2022: Expanding Access to Eye Care and Healthy Vision Starts Locally

    Read Time:6 Minute, 29 Second

November 11: Just like a fingerprint, every person’s eyes are unique. And throughout our lifetimes, our eyes go on their own unique journey: whether a child needs their first pair of corrective eyeglasses to an older person being cured of their once-debilitating cataracts. At a young age, I was prescribed to spectacles. Initially, wearing these was a bit uncomfortable. Once I got used to it, it was as though I could distinguish the colors on the leaves of the tree. The quality of my life improved across all aspects. Carrying out various activities was easier compared to without glasses and I enjoyed my hobbies much more. I believe this experience to be similar to all those who wear prescription glasses.

The common thread? This precious gift of sight is something that should never be taken for granted. Eyes and healthy vision is an important conduits through which we experience and contribute to the world around us. And they are also an important part of our overall health. Visual impairment impacts people’s well-being and lifestyle, and their ability to provide and care for their families and themselves. Globally, vision impairment and blindness result in an estimated $410.7 billion due to productivity loss and overall monthly earnings and employment rates for people with impaired vision tend to be lower.

The stark truth is: Our eyes are not always the priority when it comes to our health. And not everyone has access to the resources and treatment they need to keep their eyes healthy over a lifetime. Globally, more than 1.1 billion people are living with uncorrected vision impairments, but 90 percent of global vision loss is also treatable or preventable. This reveals a clear directive: We must expand access to eye care and lifelong healthy vision by driving increased access in all corners of the world – and that starts locally.

World Sight Day – and the theme of #LoveYourEyes – offers an important opportunity for people to prioritize their eye health, and that of their communities. Because loving our eyes means helping to ensure that the precious gift of sight and healthy vision is for everyone.

Global eye care challenges demand community-driven solutions

Ensuring local access to eye care is incredibly important, especially when considering how untreated vision impairment due to the lack of awareness can have economic implications for individuals and their families as well as more broadly in society. In India, single earning members in the family are quite commonly found. When the only earning member loses their eyesight to cataract, it impacts the daily lives of those dependent on them. Most of the times, it is the lack of awareness that is to be blamed for the rise in cataract cases.

What’s more? 90 percent of people with vision impairment are individuals who live in low to middle-income countries. Vision impairment is also shown to have greater prevalence among people in remote areas, women, the elderly, people with other disabilities, and ethnic minorities. This is compounded by the fact that age-related eye conditions—such as cataracts or macular degeneration—are only set to increase as the global population ages.

Solutions to these global challenges must start locally, and we must deeply understand and address the nuances of delivering eye care in each community. To help, Alcon provides monetary, product and equipment donations and expertise to eligible non-profit partners to help ensure the continuity of eye care in local communities. Through the Alcon Foundation and Alcon Cares, donations totaled more than $15 million in 2021, and we used that money to support organizations such as the International Eye Foundation, which is strengthening eye systems in India through its Hospital Recovery program, and VisionSpring, which is providing affordable, quality eyeglasses to people worldwide.

But we don’t stop there. In 2021, we supported 73 medical missions, providing more than 11,000 surgeries and treating more than 40,000 patients. This is included in the more than 750 medical missions we’ve completed over the last three years, helping deliver eye care to places that need it most.

Partnership paves the way to increased access in all corners of the world

Our commitment to driving results at the local level has culminated in a bold commitment: By 2025, Alcon will work with our partners through philanthropic support and training programs to help improve vision for 5 million people afflicted with untreated cataracts in low- and middle-income countries, including 1 million considered cataract-blind.

But we know no single organization can solve global eye care challenges alone. Partnership is the cornerstone to making a real impact, for real people.

Together with our partners, we are expanding access to eye care globally to fulfill unmet needs where they exist. A priority is enhancing the skills of eye care teams in areas with the greatest need. As one example, through our partnership with Orbis International’s Flying Eye Hospital, we helped train more than 680 Eye Care Professionals (ECPs) who performed 3.6 million eye screenings and examinations and 38,000 surgeries in 2021.  In India, we set up an eye-screening camp in Bangalore, at two orphanages. Here over 100 students were screened and checked for any ailments in the eyes. It was identified that many students displayed symptoms of short-sightedness. The students were then provided with corrective glasses, to help them see well. Over the years of providing eye screening to school children, we believe it is one of the most successful ways of providing quality eye-care to the ones in need.

Continuing eye care access through ECP education

Every community looks different. However, no matter where you are, building local eye care capabilities through training helps deliver sustained access to eye care.

We provide world-class training for ECPs at our Alcon Experience Centers, with 10 locations around the world. That training helps enhance eye care systems, increasing the overall capacity for eye-related procedures, including phacoemulsification (phaco) surgeries, the standard of care for cataract surgery.

For instance, through the Alcon Phaco Development (PD) program, we’ve empowered more surgeons to provide sustainable access to phaco procedures. Since the program’s inception in 2008, more than 5,000 surgeons around the world have been trained and gone on to perform more than 7 million sight-enhancing or restoring phaco procedures for patients.

In 2021, as part of Alcon’s Project 100, we donated 34 phaco machines and trained 126 doctors and surgeons in this key cataract removal procedure in India alone.

Alcon’s purpose is to help people see brilliantly – no matter who they are or where they live. This World Sight Day, we encourage everyone to remember the precious gift that is sight. Take ownership of your eyes and help others in your community to do the same by making sure you and your loved ones get regular eye exams. In most cases cataract, can be removed with a procedure less that of 30 mins. Post-surgery one can head home and get back to normal life, with almost no dependency on glasses. So, don’t just ignore problems in your vision, get them rectified immediately. Consult your nearest surgeon for the best option.

Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], November 10: Nisha Kumari, an athlete and adventurer from Vadodara, Gujarat, is set to climb Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse in traverse style with crowd-funded support. The peaks of Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse are located at 8,848.48 and 8,516 meters above sea level respectively. By climbing in the traverse style, Nisha will end the year by climbing the mountains in a sideways fashion instead of climbing straight up.

Nisha has adventure engrained in her DNA. Her father served the Indian Air Force and lost his life while serving the country. Following his footsteps, Nisha’s brother currently works for the Indian Air Force and takes pride in the same. With complete support from her family, Nisha aims to embark on this journey and accomplish a task no one in India has been able to do.

Nisha had a knack for travelling from her younger days. She joined NCC during her first year of college and has completed “B” and “C” certifications in the same. Since then, she has participated in camps, adventurous trips, and parades at locations across the country, including Mount Abu, Manali, Saputara, and more.

The turning point in Nisha’s life came when she pursued her Master’s degree and realized her true calling during a college festival. This is when she realized that she wants to dedicate her life to athletics and adventure. She then volunteered at sports and adventure organizations and started going on camps as a leader.

Since then, there has been no looking back for Nisha as she kept her passion alive with multiple expeditions, camps, and events. Some of her key achievements include completing the “Friendship Peak” expedition (5,287 meters), leading a cycling expedition 2 times from Manali – Leh – Khardungla – Leh, and climbing Kedarkantha mountain twice solo in 24 hours, and more.

Moreover, Nisha Kumari has taken the bold initiative of doing a 12-hour continuous run four times. Her first run was at the Police Parade Ground in Vadodara in March 2020. The second time, she did a 12-hour continuous run at Naini Lake in Nainital in May 2021 on the occasion of Mothers’ Day. Here, she created a world record by running continuously for 76.59 km over the course of 12 hours.

Nisha’s latest 12-hour run was back at the Police Parade Ground in Vadodara in August 2021 with the permission of IPS Shree Shamsher Singh. As well as the most recent 12-hour run, which was completed four times at the ADR Shantigram Night Ultra 82km in March 2022.

She also attempted climbing Mount Satopanth. She participated in the Mount Nun Expedition and made it to a height of 6500 meters, but was unable to ascend owing to bad weather and a snowstorm. Recently, she travelled to Nepal to climb Mount Manaslu (8163m) and reached a height of 6700 meters while tackling three avalanches.

Nisha is currently preparing for winter expeditions in India and on Argentina’s Aconcagua Mountain in January and February. In the future, she also wishes to complete seven summits.

To keep her spirits up and passion alive, Nisha Kumari has been training with an everester for over 4 years. She has mastered strenuous physical activities such as fast running, slow running, long-distance running, hill running, Tabata, ABC workout, Sudarshan Kriya, long cycling, interval running and walking, trekking, sprinting, hiking, expeditions and more.

Through her achievements, Nisha has set an example for women willing to embrace adventure and athletics. After her long-awaited climb to Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse, she will build a self-defense team with the girls from Vadodara. Producer Jay Patel Pays Homage To Noted Social Worker & Educationist, Ms Elaben Bhatt

    Read Time:3 Minute, 9 Second

New Delhi (India): This world lost an inspirational legend and Gandhian revolutionary, Ms. Ela Bhatt, fondly called “Ela-ben” (sister in Gujarati). The leading women empowerment activist has left people whom she worked with or was closely associated with in tears, including noted producer Jay Patel. The well-known film producer expressed his sadness over her sudden departure.

“I feel extremely emotional remembering Elaben. She is an immortal soul, and death is just the exit of a physical being. News of her demise just gave me a moment of emptiness. Only recently, I got the opportunity to meet the most unassuming and dynamic personality on July 17, 2022. “Getting to know the Padma Bhushan recipient and renowned founder of the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), Elaben, was one of the golden moments of my life,” recounts Jay.

Elaben, a pioneer in women’s empowerment, also practised Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and self-reliance. As a critical observer and cautious analyst, she firmly believed that women needed to be financially and emotionally self-reliant. It is rare to find a person who is awarded the highest citizen awards like the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Ramon Magsaysay Award, Right Livelihood Award, Niwano Peace Prize, and Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development and yet remained so grounded and elegant. The gentle revolutionary has inspired millions to live with love, peace, and humanity, serving society with compassion.

While narrating the episode of his maiden meeting, producer said he was mesmerised by Elaben’s persona and wanted the incident to be shared in public. He is grateful to his friends Chintan Pandya and Abhishek Dudhaiya, producer and director of Film Bhuj: The Pride of India, for organising a formal meeting with the global social activist. The meeting, which was supposed to be formal, lasted for almost 3 hours, all due to Elaben’s warmth and gentle nature. To experience a phenomenal lady’s progress, step by step, towards creating something unique and distinctive to her personality was so engaging that the three friends lost track of time. The trio were smitten on the one hand by 89-year-old Elaben’s simplicity, elegance, and childlike innocence. On the other hand, her modern, trendy, and articulated thoughts captivated them.

The producer expressed his desire to make a biopic in the brief meeting on her journey. She candidly replied, “I hope I do not have to act.” On a serious note, she humbly said that if doing such a thing could inspire even one human being worldwide, the purpose is well served. She even denied charging a single penny for her biopic and offered Jay a few books to enlighten the producer more about her life story.

The producer chuckled while remembering this impactful lady. Everything has been deeply etched in his mind, from the motherly affection he received on the said occasion from Elaben to her serving of one cup of ginger Indian masala tea with her million-dollar smile.

The Indian film fraternity, especially Bollywood, has always tried to bring forth the stories of leaders’ par excellence to the people through their work or words. As a film producer, Jay Patel wants this unique story of an extraordinary lady to be told to the entire world and not limited to only Indian audiences. He believes that very few people in this world have achieved, inspired, and left an unforgettable impression on generations to come. Her vision should and needs to be communicated to everyone across the nation.
